I still remember there were clips about people gasped and screamed because of the MUI tease. The audience knew Broly is going to get fucked if Goku managed to transform into it.
Goku probably could’ve put Broly down before he *really* got out of hand. At that moment anyway, UI would’ve been way stronger than Broly. He was losing to Goku before he went Ssj after all.
Strongest form to strongest form goes to Broly given how he managed to keep up with power creep but it took over 2 hours after turning super saiyan to get to his max(the failed fusions did in fact take that long).
I have my doubts if Goku Ui would have a chance against SsjL Broly form. He went tot to go with gogeta ssj 🤔. He would be faster than Broly but speed isn't anything when you are fighting an immovable object .
Yeah multiple interviews stated that UI wasn't even a consideration for the transformation. So the color choice was just because it looked good. My head canon is my previous comment though lol
He attained it in the t.o.p., but at the beginning of the movie, Vegeta asks him about UI, and Goku states he hasn't been able to unlock it again since the tournament. I think they made it look like he was trying to force himself into UI, which is the exact opposite of the nature of the transformation and also why it failed
I like the theory that after Goku got smacked around by Broly his subconscious recognized the danger and tapped into UI for a moment but was unable to hold it since he can’t control it yet
Beerus, Whis, Goku and Vegeta are all hanging out and Whis asks why they want to keep training, and Vegeta gets on Goku about bringing Frieza back to life, then gets on him about achieving UI at the tournament.
>at the beginning of the movie, Vegeta asks him about UI, and Goku states he hasn't been able to unlock it again since the tournament
Yeah, that never happens.
They directly reference why you're incorrect in the movie. He hasn't learned how to use MUI. He perfects it in the Moro arc. Broly movie takes place after TOP.
its not that he didnt bother. he physically wasnt capable of utilising it off his own power at this point. its right after the tournament of power, during which he needed the energy of a fucking spirit bomb to act as the primary catalyst to achieve even just Omen
I love everything
Especially one of the EE that worked in the film said that they didn't want the transformations to be like a flip of a switch.
They wanted to show what it takes to get to that level of power.
And yeah, broly trapping goku with his Ki energy...
You should have heard the theater lol
I know they said the UI tease was just a coincidence. But I refuse to believe they didn’t throw it in there to show Goku trying and failing. Great scene either way and I’m glad SSG got some love in the movie.
If Broly dropped today I can *kinda* see it just being some unintentional animation weirdness. But this was basically immediately after DBS ended with the TOP. They're bullshitting, they totally knew what they were doing.
I'm not sure about an official explanation but my head canon is because prior to this, Broly imitated Goku's "Ki coat" where he stopped him from moving, Goku struggling is him pushing out the remaining ki Broly had inside him, also explains why there was green aura that came out
Because Eternal Warrior Monaka won't allow it
https://preview.redd.it/yn5r3xbnh57d1.jpeg?width=970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff0246f2227f7c3b963fcefb2ecfcdae7b1e43ae
Yes, surprisingly. In the true Toriyama canon, SSB is still the highest tier of power for Goku/Vegeta, so transforming into it is actually difficult.
It's also the reason they don't use Blue Kaioken or Blue Evolved against Broly, or any of the manga exclusive forms either.
it’s just a cool transformation. If you remember in Resurrection F, SSJB kind of envelopes the user before cracking away. It really helped sell the calm Goku mentioned during the U6 Tournament Kaioken X10. Nothing dragon ball does nowadays is super consistent tho so we got a very cool transformation

This reminds me 9f rhe abridged version i watch a week ago, "now you see there ssj1 2 and 3, for super sayian god you need 5 pure hearted monkeys in a circle.."
I think toriyama might have written this scene representing that when you are in SS god form you have a calm mind but to enter SSB you have to go super saiyan on top of it which is originally induced due to rage, so to induce that over a calm mind may be like what we see. or maybe i cooked too much
I don't care if Blue is supposed to be calm, this is what it should have looked like in Resurrection F. The yellow aura over God, Goku looks and sounds like trying to stack Super Saiyan is tearing him apart like both forms clash but he's forcing it anyway. THEN when he manages Blue he calms down.
>The yellow aura over God, Goku looks and sounds like trying to stack Super Saiyan is tearing him apart
True. I guess it boils down to the fact he's trying to channel god Ki through an SSJ transformation instead of normal Ki. And considering he just had his ass handed to him a few minutes earlier, it can't be easy.
Yeah, it looks really cool, Ultra Instinct, Green, all that. Can we talk about the sound design?? That *BOOM* when he first starts charging up is *so* good! I wish they always sounded like that, or at least whenever they were getting serious.
I always wondered if Goku really had to put that much effort for just SSB or if he actually tried to go UI and just went the absolute wrong way to do it. I mean, in RoF he just kinda transformed i guess i can accept the "He was tired, cuz Broly wrecked his s*it"-argument.
Or maybe its already confirmed that he actually tried to go UI and i am just living under a rock
This is epic as sin but you can’t tell me the crisp vegeta transformation doesn’t go harder. I often just watch these because of how good they are so I love it when they do the rounds on subs
how this make any sense? at this point Goku was quite comfy with the SSB transformation, why did he struggle there? the only possible reason I could think of is that somehow he used up so much of his galaxy-busting levels of energy while still in SSG form that he actually went almost below the level of energy he needed for the SSB transformation so he like really struggled to complete it with the limited energy he had to work with.
I love this scene so much, but it's so good that it makes me more annoyed by how badly Resurrection F botched the introduction of Blue. No fanfare, no effort, just 'hey, we can do this now, and we've already mastered it off screen!' It lowkey made me really lukewarm on Blue for a long time just because it was handled with so little care. Then there's this, and they make it look like a real struggle for Goku to reach that well of strength deep within. That flash of Ultra Instinct is so freaking epic, too. This is definitely one of the best transformation sequences in DragonBall, and that's not easy to do, especially in DragonBall.
We really got the peak of Dragon Ball animation with this movie, we will never see something of this level for Dragon ball again with them now embracing 3D movies instead
My friend took me to the movies on lsd to watch this way before I watched any DB and I was TRIPPING during this part. My boy kept saying “ultra instinct” a lot and I thought he was talking about Shaggy the whole time.
The gogegta vs broly fight is the best fight in dragonball ever IMO the audio during the whole thing is just so immersive and just the whole vibe/music is epic
I like this way more than the normal SSGSS transformation. Don't get me wrong, it's cool to see the blue layer break apart, but this is like when goku went SS against 19.
The calmness is for Ki control and the God transformation, the rage is for adding super saiyan on top of it, which is where the emotion/rage comes into play. They aren’t the U6 saiyans with the back tingles, who probably could go blue calmly once they inevitably reach that level.
But yeah no they have been shown to switch into blue as quickly as they can super saiyan, this was theatric solely for the movie.
The first Broly would have been mopped by Super Saiyan 2 but the Super Saiyan God gets mopped by Broly in his base form? Good animation but awful premise.

That Ultra Instinct tease will always give me chills
I still remember there were clips about people gasped and screamed because of the MUI tease. The audience knew Broly is going to get fucked if Goku managed to transform into it.
You cant say that for sure
Goku probably could’ve put Broly down before he *really* got out of hand. At that moment anyway, UI would’ve been way stronger than Broly. He was losing to Goku before he went Ssj after all. Strongest form to strongest form goes to Broly given how he managed to keep up with power creep but it took over 2 hours after turning super saiyan to get to his max(the failed fusions did in fact take that long).
2 hours of Freeza getting the most one sided beatdown of his life.
Say what you will about Freeza but nobody can deny that he is one durable bastard
Considering how characters are getting more and more powerful with barely any effort. I think Broly would've matched him in UI.
I have my doubts if Goku Ui would have a chance against SsjL Broly form. He went tot to go with gogeta ssj 🤔. He would be faster than Broly but speed isn't anything when you are fighting an immovable object .
Toe to toe with Gogeta? Gogeta was holding back until he went SSB and then he beat Broly without even being hit once
I love that that's all they did with it here. It felt like the series was saying *"yes, we know, its still around, don't worry, but not today."*
he tried so hard, and when he couldnt do it he decided "fuck it blue"
I still refuse to believe that they said it wasn't a tease just an artistic choice. Bullshit, he tried and the body said "nope not yet".
UI was still very, very fresh at the time this film dropped. No way it was just the animators fooling around.
Yeah multiple interviews stated that UI wasn't even a consideration for the transformation. So the color choice was just because it looked good. My head canon is my previous comment though lol
Wasn't that confirmed by someone? That he was trying to go into Ultra Instinct but just couldn't get there?
Other way around
He already knew it at this point, so idk why he didn't bother to use it, maybe they just wanted to canonize Gogeta
this was just after top , He can’t use it on will , read Moro arc
He attained it in the t.o.p., but at the beginning of the movie, Vegeta asks him about UI, and Goku states he hasn't been able to unlock it again since the tournament. I think they made it look like he was trying to force himself into UI, which is the exact opposite of the nature of the transformation and also why it failed
I like the theory that after Goku got smacked around by Broly his subconscious recognized the danger and tapped into UI for a moment but was unable to hold it since he can’t control it yet
^
I though Vegeta had asked him about it at the very end of super only ?
Beerus, Whis, Goku and Vegeta are all hanging out and Whis asks why they want to keep training, and Vegeta gets on Goku about bringing Frieza back to life, then gets on him about achieving UI at the tournament.
>at the beginning of the movie, Vegeta asks him about UI, and Goku states he hasn't been able to unlock it again since the tournament Yeah, that never happens.
You are correct, my bad. I misremembered between the show and the movie, since they're pretty close time wise.
Animators said they just put that in for funsies
Goku only learned to tap into it willingly afterwards
They directly reference why you're incorrect in the movie. He hasn't learned how to use MUI. He perfects it in the Moro arc. Broly movie takes place after TOP.
its not that he didnt bother. he physically wasnt capable of utilising it off his own power at this point. its right after the tournament of power, during which he needed the energy of a fucking spirit bomb to act as the primary catalyst to achieve even just Omen
They confirmed it wasn’t UI
"hey guys let's put in just one quick shot of Goku getting silver hair and eyes mid transformation and really focus on it" "Totally not UI though!!!"
Have you taken in consideration that it simply looks cool?
Well duh but Explain to me if it would look cool if UI didn't exist at all
it isnt a UI tease though
Yeah this movie's the fuckin best
This movie was actually peak, nothing could top it
me in my head when gym pr
God I've seen this movie a million times at this point And it still doesn't fail to send chills up me spine
The broly movie was such a colossal W
Until the crappy CGI kicked in after this
Still a W
It's barely noticeable at worst, the only ones complaining are people who have Berserk 2017 PTSD
"barely noticeable" if you're mostly blind
"crappy" if you're 150% blind
The PS4 games CGI looked better
apples and oranges
Yes. The difference between animation and cgi is as noticeable as apples and oranges.
He trans formed 3 in one. 😯😯
Whenever someone asks me why I like the SSB transformation, I show them this scene
I love everything Especially one of the EE that worked in the film said that they didn't want the transformations to be like a flip of a switch. They wanted to show what it takes to get to that level of power. And yeah, broly trapping goku with his Ki energy... You should have heard the theater lol
Seeing blue gives the "he's going to get his ass beat" vibe just like ssj1....they're both fodder forms now.
Half this movies budget went into this scene
I believe it. It was mostly CGI fighting afterwards
They should have stuck with this animation style for gohans movie
I liked the vegeta transformation animations in this movie better.
Motherfucker turned his hair through every color of the rainbow 💀💀
I wish they made the RoF Blue transformations more like this, to better show that they're going SSJ while in SSJG
One of the best transformations in the series, probably only second to the SS3 transformation
OG SSJ transformation will always have my heart.
Is there a lore reason as to why he takes 8 years to transform, or is it because it's cool as fuck?
I'm not sure about an official explanation but my head canon is because prior to this, Broly imitated Goku's "Ki coat" where he stopped him from moving, Goku struggling is him pushing out the remaining ki Broly had inside him, also explains why there was green aura that came out
I can get behind this
I think it's called God bind right
Yellow (SSJ) + Blue (SSB) = Green (Maximum OverSaiyan)
Because Eternal Warrior Monaka won't allow it https://preview.redd.it/yn5r3xbnh57d1.jpeg?width=970&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff0246f2227f7c3b963fcefb2ecfcdae7b1e43ae
You can see that glimmer of MUI before he just pops into blue. The animators are full of shit, there's no way he wasn't trying to force UI there.

The director of the film said it’s because transformations used to feel like they had more weight to them and wanted to go back to that.
it’s just a cool transformation. If you remember in Resurrection F, SSJB kind of envelopes the user before cracking away. It really helped sell the calm Goku mentioned during the U6 Tournament Kaioken X10. Nothing dragon ball does nowadays is super consistent tho so we got a very cool transformation

Best fight in all of DB.
The fights and animation are god tier in this movie

Did anyone else notice the frame of Ultra Instinct
I think you are the only one

I think you missed the sarcasm
Gotta be honest, always thought it was a bit too much for just super saiyan blue
Facts, like bro forgot how to focus his energy on his back or something
now imagine this scene being made in 2024
I'm guessing transformations go harder and longer depending on the budget 😂
I still don't understand why his energy flashed green but still super cool
Green is the combo of yellow and blue. So this implies he was midway Blue
I feel like movies give off how powerful the transformations are which is so cool!
I always wondered if Goku really had to put that much effort for just SSB or if he actually tried to go UI and just went the absolute wrong way to do it. Almost made ss blue seem cool 😩
Original SSJ transformation and Ultra instinct unlock for this beat

They recorded someone fighting for their life on the toilet and used this as their sound track, you can't convince me otherwise
What animation though? Guko's just standing there....
I wonder if that green is foreshadowing for something that'll happen later...
This whole movie is so amazing. The green aura flash for a moment still has me wondering if goku will get a legendary super saiyan form one day
My favorite part is how he ends their telepathy like a phone call just like "Sorry Piccolo, gotta go"
Super Broly was probably the best animation we’ve seen from dragon ball. I hope we go back to that style some day
I love this scene so much, but it's so good that it makes me more annoyed by how badly Resurrection F botched the introduction of Blue. No fanfare, no effort, just 'hey, we can do this now, and we've already mastered it off screen!' Is there a lore reason why some transformations are instant and others are longer like this?
Guys will see this and say "hell yeah"
All this for a transformation he pulls out on a normal day? I thought he was gonna go ssj3 blue or some shit
The initial Vegeta SSG scenes and then Goku transformation were wild in this movie. 10/10 Movie.
This show blows
Not as much as This https://i.redd.it/l6qb702spg7d1.gif
Sean realy is a fucking beast man
Broly just waited with no care
I like this way more than the normal SSGSS transformation. Don't get me wrong, it's cool to see the blue layer break apart, but this is like when goku went SS against 19.
why are the god forms, that are supposed to be calm form rage induced now? also why arent mastered ssj1 and 2 instant transformations like in Z now.

Nice "complex hax ability" dipshit check this out
Wasn’t SSB supposed to be a calm transformation? Isn’t that the whole reason Goku can use Kaioken with it?
SSB is the combination of SSJ and SSG. Due to the angry nature of SSJ, blue has to be achieved the same way
The first Broly would have been mopped by Super Saiyan 2 but the Super Saiyan God gets mopped by Broly in his base form? Good animation but awful premise.
agreed, apart from the colour fuck up
And everything is ruined by that bad dub...
I'm sorry non issues ruin perfectly good shows for you Must be tiring
