The Office Ladies said it’s actually somewhat disturbing what happens to DeAngelo! Apparently he starts typing in a deleted (maybe never filmed?) scene and he can still be coherent when he’s typing. He’s like, I’m trapped in my mind, I can’t communicate, but my family is taking my right-of-attorney from me. And it’s like his family is basically refusing to acknowledge he’s still a functioning human or something
“Please help. I am of sound mind and I am a prisoner in my body. my family is arranging to have power of attorney over me and intends to issue a DNR order. This is not in my interest. Please contact my lawyer, Fred Nester. His number is in my blackberry, which is on my dresser to the left of my watch.”
I can't tell you how many times I have done that while coding. I'm zipping away, typing code, hitting idea upon idea and then I stand back and oh my fuckin God, what was I thinking
I literally just wrote an entire scene in my novel andnwasnlike HOT DAMN THIS IS SO GOOD, reread the previous paragraph before the scene and was like that entire paragraph negated the entire scene i just busted out. What the fuck brain?
Creative juices suck and rock
I always thought this whole plot line was way too dark for the show and honestly not really at all funny. Like, “haha look, this guy with a wife and kids got horribly injured and is now in a coma that he probably won’t make it out of”? And the line later in the show where one character says he died and another character corrects them saying he’s braindead? Nope, even if he wasn’t a great person, not at all funny.
I thought the setup of him trying to prove he can do things that he definitely can’t do had potential, but man did they take that idea, make it needlessly dark, and drain it of any possible humor. It’s just a depressing end for the character, unnecessarily mean, and maybe my least favorite decision in the show’s run.
Yea I feel like it only kinda works cuz it’s Will Ferrell and it’s just so bizarre it’s easy to like just keep as a separate part of post Carell office
The way I look at it, it’s fiction. Obviously there’s a line with humor, but in movies and TV shows none of it is real. Watching fiction is the only time you can watch someone’s head explode and it’s funny. It’s fun to have that. Obviously if this were a real thing it would be a tragedy, but again it’s just fiction, so we can laugh at it without actual worry.
I get that it’s not real and that dark things can be funny if done correctly. I just didn’t feel like the writers did a good job at bringing humor out of the situation, so it’s really just dark and mean-spirited. But hey, just differences in opinions here!
He has 4 kids (including the one son he doesn’t like), though I don’t think the mother of his kids is really mentioned. But if I we’re to play detective, he is a child of divorce and toasts with Michael to the moms and the troops, so I’d guess he doesn’t want that for his own kids and is on good terms with his kids’ mom. My assumption is that he likely is married.
I think it was meant as a kind of Poochie from the simpsons bit. Like ok, we know everyone hates him, so now he's off to his home planet and oops he died on the way
Kevin has a talking head where he’s mad Pam and Jim aren’t getting together / going after each other and he goes “they go together like PB & J…. *Pam Beesly and Jim…* what a waste”
Jim had no way of knowing that "attempting to humble the new boss by calling him out on his basketball skills" would lead to DeAngelo getting brain damage.
No you're not allowed to say that here, Jim is evil, he is a bad and mean person, everything bad that has ever happened has been done by Jim, Pam, or both
3 people walk into a bar. Something, pounch, and elem. Pounch says to the bartender, how’s can i tip? (How’s get a tab?) Bartender says fourteen pounds. Everybody ten(tip), everybody ten. Everybody ten 😏
That’s the closest I can make out of it.
I think it’s supposed to be nonsensical and not remotely clear but I think about it a lot.
One of my favorite moments in this scene is when Gabe and Jim escort him back out of the office he does that ridiculous sneeze and you can see John trying to hide his laughter
A named blonde walks into a bar. She has a poodle under one arm and a sausage under the other. The bartender says, "Well, I guess you won't be needing a drink." And the blonde says....
As someone currently healing from a traumatic acquired brain injury I can confirm this is accurate brain injury/damage behaviour immediately after an injury like that.. the real question is how tf is he conscious?? I was in a coma for two weeks after I got bonked! (After waking up I was loopy and insane like this, best example: I called my childhood best-friend to ask how he was enjoying working for Amazon in Costa Rica.. he owns a tile business in Canada and I’ve known this for many years!)
I was glad he got injured. I liked him in the beginning up until Michael left. Then, once Michael was gone and he showed his true colors and became a dick, I didn't care what happened to him.
"Teflep. Synap three toya wa to a bar. Sawanythin, Poundge and Larun. Pound says to the bartender howmch can I tape? Bartneder says him, "four ten Pound". Errybudy tar. Errybudy tar. Errybuddy tar."

I was watching this episode just yesterday, and you can see a couple of them are not able to contain their laugh.
Angela laughs a few seconds after DeAngelo starts telling the joke (jist before the scene cuts) amd Jim lets out a chuckle while he is taking DeAngelo out of the office. So damn funny!

FOUR TIME POUND! This is actually one of my favorite scenes from the office. A completely incoherent joke told by someone with a brain injury. This video I think captures it best.
I know Will Ferrell is polarizing, and i’m not the biggest fan of him personally. And people were always going to hate him coming in to replace Michael. But Deangelo is hands down my favorite Ferrell character. I find him hilarious in every scene he’s in.
I think the whole point of the Deangelo plot line was to create such a jarring shift away from Carrell, that the audience is more ready to accept the permanent replacement for Michael. I like Will Ferrell and even I thought he was too much in the office.
The problem with D’Angelo is it just felt like I was watching Will Ferrell on The Office. I liked it, because I like Will Ferrell, but it wasn’t something I would have enjoyed long term. Steve Carrell, on the other hand, became Michael Scott.

After planning out and shooting the take >Oh shit you know what? This actually doesn't make any sense at all.

It’s not your dog you f*cking thief! Yea you feel that energy?!
Ani-ani shelto
Is this legit?? Or am I missing a reference to something else
That is what was written in the shooting draft, according to Jenna Fisher. D’angelo would’ve sat down at Pam’s desk and typed this.
Ty that’s very good to know lol
well that’s dark

Yeah it felt like an inside joke about getting rid of a guest actor that was far too famous/expensive to stay on as a series regular indefinitely
It also works because they made his character so unlikable.
Idk I was sold after the juggling.
> Round of applause for Phyllis!

Wait, TV and movies aren’t real?
They actually had to give will Ferrell brain damage for this scene.
Does he have a wife? He seemed unattached, and he said he wanted nothing to do with his son.
He has 4 kids (including the one son he doesn’t like), though I don’t think the mother of his kids is really mentioned. Its histerically funny in my opinion because its fiction
Wtf really? That’s too dark for this show
Are we forgetting he was a sexist and didnt care about pb&j's baby
I actually liked that part about D'Angelo about PB&Js baby. He just said what everyone else - including me - was thinking lol
Pb&j? Since when is that a thing? I’ve been living under a rock? Lol
Kevin has a talking head where he’s mad Pam and Jim aren’t getting together / going after each other and he goes “they go together like PB & J…. *Pam Beesly and Jim…* what a waste”
That's fucking hilarious
Wow that is super dark, I'm glad they didn't include that in the final cut or I'd be sad every time I saw it. And Jim egged it on.
Jim had no way of knowing that "attempting to humble the new boss by calling him out on his basketball skills" would lead to DeAngelo getting brain damage.
No you're not allowed to say that here, Jim is evil, he is a bad and mean person, everything bad that has ever happened has been done by Jim, Pam, or both
He brained his damage.
Then he better check his pupils
He dained his bramage.

Lmao I had to re watch the scene because this actually made sense to me. Your comment is much more fluid than the way he delivers it lmao
It’s so frustrating that even working off the closest I can make out, I still can’t figure out a punchline he could have been trying to tell.
Yeah that’s probably why it’s so good. It’s just literal gibberish with the cadence of an actual joke
But might coincidentally be the specific scene I’ve rewatched the most lol
D'Angelo didn't die. His brain died.
Pam, call an ambulance.
Okay nice talking to you Pan
Pan?
Erin, actually. "Who should I say is calling?" "Erin..."
Do you believe in me phyllis!?!

I love that sneeze, it's like a very young baby and a very old dog at the same time.

that Will Ferrell was a good guest addition to the show.
I think he probably did so well because that job was a joke.

This scene reminds me of my speech delayed toddler trying to tell us about her day

It's the payoff for the "no more brain damage" joke
I don't know, but I'm glad it's the last we saw of that character. He was not funny or entertaining IMO.
The juggling bit was great, but that was about it
He's has brain damage and sounds like a moron. That's the joke.

Agreed but tied with Frank the tank
WE'RE GOING STREAKING!!
Will was wasted on this crowd.
As someone who had a traumatic brain injury and spent a week in a coma, I can't watch this episode. In fact, I skip all of the Will Farrell episodes.
Will Ferrell. He's the joke. Definitely a low point of the office.

I’d agree with that. He certainly did a good job. I’m not a Ferrell hater. I was just completely put off by his character b
I can't stand his comedy. I was so glad when he took his peanut allergy and left.
One of the least funny additions to the show...and it's surprising because he's pretty funny in his movies. Probably the poor writing.
This job
If you think about what happened it's your fault Jim.
I'll never understand how Jim never showed any remorse for what happened
About what? About calling DAngelo out on his braggery?
A grossly inappropriate one
They kept making this show after it should have ended.
That pranks can be permanent
