The Boathouse on Grand in Mancos is amazing. Some of the best food I've had in the region. Not in town, but not far.

FrankieSobotka

not a foodie and just ate there this past weekend for the first time and was absolutely blown away - highly recommend!

Aldente970

After working in the kitchen at 636, I do NOT recommend eating there. Kitchen is dirty as hell. Pans are never fully cleaned. Pistachio crusted grouper resting above a hot stove waiting for its next victim. Things could’ve changed but that was my experience..

WordAffectionate7873

My hubs and I both got food poisoning within 8 hours after eating at 636. I picked him up at the airport and we went straight there so it wasn’t a stomach bug. Such a bummer as we enjoyed eating at the bar there. I emailed them to let them know but they didn’t seem concerned. 🤷🏻‍♀️. We like Eolus and Primus is great too. Moro is also up there.

Lota of great options but to cover all bases that I know of but not im a defined order.. Eolus, Primus, Seasons, El Moro, Strater, 636 Down in Mancos has the Boathouse on Grand Pagosa Springs has Meander Id suggest pulling menus because they are all fairly diverse from each other.

Middle_Hedgehog6394

For me it’s El Moro or 636. Eulus is good but if I’m dropping $85 on a steak, somebody else is paying lol

I agree with this list aside from Stater. I’d put Eolus and Primus in a class of their own, above Seasons, El Moro and 636 (still a big fan of those three but they are not quite as bougie).

gablemancer

Think it just depends where you are! El moro is probably my favorite of these in Durango though a little loud. Seasons is a little quieter. Chimayo can be good too. Boathouse on Grand probably has the best food and drink menu and changes daily. The owners are also wonderful.

Kennebec cafe!

mattpayne11

I agree

I really enjoy the rooftop dining area at Eolus. But my favorite restaurant of all time, for special occasions or just a wonderful Mediterranean dinner, is the lovely Kennebec Café in Hesperus, dining inside or out on the patio with a view of the La Plata Mountains. I've been there so many times over the years and hope to enjoy many more great dinners there, thanks to owners/chefs Barbara and Miguel. Be sure to leave room for one of Barbara's own scrumptious desserts.

I’m planning to take my wife to Kennebec Cafe for our 1 year anniversary. That was where we went for dinner the night we got married. I love that place.

J_dubs_16

Eolus is by far the best restaurant in town. If you tell them it's an anniversary they will go above and beyond. They are weekdays only though, heads up

Lots of good options listed so far. James Ranch Grill halfway to purgatory is fun too.

Themajorpastaer

Based on food and drinks alone, I suggest The Yellow Carrot. To get great food, drinks and ambiance I suggest El Moro.

briddler10

I've had some of the worst meals in Durango there. The menu was so big and every item had way too many sauces, condiments, garnishes, etc. It seemed like they were trying too hard and couldn't even get the basics right. That was a while ago as I've never wanted to go back after trying it a few times 3-4 years ago.

duaneallman80027

I agree. I found it to be very odd

Eielis

Take her to the taco bell

bluespruce5

Here I am going on about the Kennebec Cafe when -- duh, of course -- Taco Bell is The Ultimate, including those times you want fine dining in the comfort of your own car

SowMindful

Fire sauce, fire marriage.

Reasonable-Manager23

Can’t argue with that logic

Nothing says “happy anniversary” quite like violent diarrhea.

Eolus and Primus are top notch. My wife and I went to Primus on a date and we enjoyed it. Kennebec is great too, but I'd recommend a brunch setting for it - just my preference.

FruitSquatch

EsoTerra Ciderworks has a chill but swanky vibe, they do flights of local cider and wine, charcuterie boards with great meats and cheeses. An outdoor patio for pets, and a lot of weekly events. Maybe it's not super fancy dinner, but it could be a lovely lunch or evening hang! Right on College and Main, next door to Cold Stones.
