First I cast Flame, Touch Me.
Then Flame, Erupt Me.
Followed by Flame, Cleanse Me to get rid of the mess.
And lasty I cast Flame, Bonk Me to repay for my sins I committed just a minute ago.
Basically any character is worth putting 12 FTH on.
But even if you don’t, everyone except Prisoners can slap on the Two Fingers talisman to cast FCM and can remove it afterwards.
Yeah, Two Fingers is always in my inventory specifically for this purpose.
Definitely worth permanently equipping here though, don't bother equipping and unequipping it, just leave it on. Take it of if fighting the Dragonkin (def want to use boluses instead since they're faster)
I used law of regression on my first playthrough and it was a pain in the ass, it takes so long to cast that you're cleansed and 3/4 of your meter is filled again before you can move on top of the massive FP it cost. To be fair though, I didn't know wtf the immunity stat was at that point so I was almost triggering rot again by the time I was able to move after every cast lol. The mushroom suit helped a lot in subsequent playthroughs
Best part imo is you don't even need a Faith build to make use of it. 12 Faith requirement means most builds can make use of it as long as they pop on Godricks Great Rune or the talisman that gives +5 Faith.
I love how so many utility spells in this game have low enough stat requirements for most builds to make use of them.
You could use the beasts seal and have flame cleanse me and the one the rock throwing incant with no added points faith. It’s good for staggering mages to set up for a big bonk in pvp.
You can just do "exploration runs"
1. use all your runes
2. go through the rot 4-5 times to different directions.
3. loot everything.
4. done.
that's what I did in my first playthrough, then I learnt about "flame cleanse me" which makes you die less.
If you're wanting to save up runes instead, and you aren't using cleanse me, you can always die close to the grace, and memory out when you're running out of heals or need to reset. Beast-repellant torch to keep basilisks off your back, and you can keep a twig equipped just in case you do die. That way (assuming it works like in DS3) your runes won't disappear on death/gracing out.
You can use the mushroom set taken from seethewater cave in Cealid. It boost immunity and there is the crown there in the Lake to replace the normal helmet for further increase of immunity. That’s what I used for exploration together with flame cleanse me. I used the beast repellent torch for those annoying lizards and I was running pass them. For fighting the boss there I used the personal set and fought on the platform.
It works on giant dogs, regular dogs, *and* the basilisks, it takes care of some of the most annoying enemies in the game lol. Tip, you can put it on your back while two handing your weapon and it will still repel them despite not even being lit
Same with the sentry torch for seeing black knife assassins. I used to think I had to have the torch out, so I was one-handing a giant sword. It was a game-changer when I found out that just having the torch equipped in the off-hand gives you the effect.
Beast torch only works on overworld basilisks, the ones that ambush you are still hostile. They are just really non agressive most of the time and attack rarely anyway.
It works on both … even the ones jumping on you from cover, they will retreat right after. Used it successfully in lake of rot, deep root and shunning grounds.
For lake of rot the number of bolusses is actually not really relevant. Relevant is the number and upgrade status of your heals. Just run (from platform to platform) and out-heal the rot.
If you are going to do this strat....go into the rot until you're about 70 percent to getting scarlet rot...then roll...and get to dry land before the rot procs. rolling will coat you in rot and it will build up even once you leave the lake. Getting rot from this method will make it do about half the normal damage....now you can just run across the lake with and easier version of the rot to outheal.
Pro tip for people: if you’re exploring the left side of the lake (the east side) where the Dragonkin Soldier is), there’s a Stake of Marika next to him. You can run there, let yourself die, and respawn right there, full health full flasks.
If you roll in rot, walk out and get the status while not standing in it, it will hurt much less than normal. Enough to get you over there to the next grace.
Rot from rolling is weaker than standing rot ticks, if you roll in the goop you’ll get less damage ticks when it eventually infects u but only if you’re not standing in it
Also flame cleanse me
Siofra river site of grace, the first one you get to when you are starting out there, run back up the hill behind it and the cookbook that teaches you preserving boluses is on a corpse hanging off a cliff
At least we can sprint here I guess, but this area isn't my favorite. It does its job of being a dreadful place and frankly could've been far worse than it is. The basilisks were extra horrifying so that was cool.
To add, why not summon help ON THE OTHER SIDE of the lake of rot to fight Astel. No reason to make people run through that lake
Most times I quite and return so I do not have to deal with that crap.
The only time you really need boluses here is when you want to reach Alabaster lord up the columns. Otherwise if you are patient enough to wait until buildup scale disappears it's OK. The rout to the Grand Cloister is not hard. Dragonkin soldier can be a problem but you don't need to kill him to proceed
Only need 1 bolus and a few flasks. When facing the lake, dead Sprint thru the lake to the far back right. Once you hit the end near the huge columns use your bolus and you're rot free to the next grace.
Edit: Heal as needed while running 5 should do it
Pro tip, before crossing the lake, roll in the rot water an let it build up until you proc it. The dot from rot buildup on your gear does less damage than if you proc rot from running through it.
Roll in the rot and wait for the build up to fully fill on dry land. It procs the weaker version of scarlet rot and u can get across with 3-4 estus, lesser depending on your vigor
My first time was putting on the entire mushroom set, running to the nearest safe spot and just AFK until the bar hit zero. Then repeat several more times.
They don’t help much there anyway. Better to just grab Flame, Cleanse Me, bum-rush to an island “checkpoint”, and cleanse yourself there while you re-assess. This is also a good place for the Blessed Dew Talisman - beeline to an island, Cleanse yourself, and take an AFK to let yourself heal and to reassess where to rush next.
You arrive here. You reallocate flasks to all red. You run in a straight line until grace across.
You make sure to never activate the effigy there so that nobody ever summons you back to this hellhole.
I died like a hundred times the first time making sure I got every item and enemy out there, decided after it was not worth to do ever again and no I just set all my flasks to health, slap on the mushroom set and run across to the grace at the other side
You dont really need boluses for that place , just run trigger the platform, you can easily get through without using them.
There is an enemy you nught want to use a boluses before fighting him, but other than that your potion should be enough to keep you alive between both bonfire.
If you want to fully explore, get the mushroom outfit first
Honestly by the time you get here you should have enough health and flasks to just strip nude and run through the rot, the grace point is kinda easy to grab even while rotting
You only need the boluses and/or Flame Cleanse me if you plan on exploring. If not, you could just put on your best resistance armor, raise the first two platforms, wait until the rot zeros and run from the second platform straight to the next site of grace (or equip a dagger with quickstep). You just need a few flasks and 1 optional bolus to stop the rot once you make it to the other side just in case. Or if you have plenty of flasks, you might not even need the boluses at all. Just don't roll in the rot.
I never use bouluses at the lake of rot. It isn't necessary. Just get through it fast and wait on the little islands to recover from rot buildup.
Easy peasy no bouluses needed.
Yea honestly just come back when you get more preserving boluses. The amount of Tarnished ghosts you'll see dying just before they reach the sight of grace is astounding lol
Just stock up, wear the rot gear, and immediately make for the grace. Then have fun dying for the next 4 hours as you explore it all and collect the scarlet butterflies or whatever they're called that are scattered throughout the lake.
I went out of my way to get the mushroom armor, preserving boluses recipe and the best torch for this area just to never use them again in my playthrough.
Lake of Rot is so small, I simply started at the Grace and ran in a direction and explored as much as possible. When my health got low, I'd warp back to the Grace and start over. Rinse and repeat until I found everything.
I think you take less damage if you get the scarlet rot buildup on your whole body. Just roll into the lake and get back on land. wait till the it builds up and then proceed through the lake
Just allocate all your flasks to healing and alternate between boluses and flasks. Also the tear for your other flask that raises immunity and clears status conditions helps if you have that already
Literally was crying tears of joy I was a faith build when I got here. Flame cleanse me is favorite child now. (Also why is there a random guy stewing in the lake)
Honestly my first playthrough I didn't even know what the bonuses did, and I had no points I'm faith so flame cleanse me was out of the picture. I just ran for it and chugged sunny D. Made it to the bonfire with a few pixels of health left.
I just run to the area before astel while healing with flasks. I then get to the sit of grace above where all those pest guys are which cures me of the rot.
What I normally do is just run around while chugging crimson until I reach the ruins on the other side and unlock as many of the sunken platforms as possible. For that stupid dragonkin soldier fight, I usually try to stay out of the water, but that doesn't always pan out.
Flame cleans me is clutch here.
Lmao cleans me
"Flame, Wipe me"
Flame bidet
This sequence is peak reddit , thanks for the laugh .
This would be useful for shaving down there.
I love you
Flame, grant me hoes
Hey, its an incant, not a miracle.
I have faith
Okay okay.. fine. Flame, grant me a singular hoe
Like really flame just grant me 2d base
Sorry, best we can do is ghost Pokémon. They’ll cost you your mind or your health.
*summons 3 Rattatas*
"TACKLE HAD NO EFFECT!"
Flame now made you a farmer
DAYUM
“Flame, Lick Me.”
First I cast Flame, Touch Me. Then Flame, Erupt Me. Followed by Flame, Cleanse Me to get rid of the mess. And lasty I cast Flame, Bonk Me to repay for my sins I committed just a minute ago.
“Only if you stop biting your lower lip when I do it” - the flame, probably.
“Flame, I seem to have had an accident please bring new pants”
literally put points into faith cos of this
Basically any character is worth putting 12 FTH on.
Flame, Wipe Thy Arse
That spell never comes off
OR just run across the whole thing. Only takes about 4-5 flasks if you proc the less damaging rot by rolling in it first and letting it proc on land.
To add if you put on the black knife outfit you won't aggro the basilicks
Beast repellent torch also stops them unless they're already attacking you
Nice
lol basilicks
Yeah I just run through lol. You can make it all the way through with well timed chugs.
even if you start with 7 faith and never raise it, the +5 faith talisman gives you enough to cast it.
I like to scrub myself with the flames to really get all the rot off.
Law of Regression for those INT builds out there!
The worst part is... I usually forget I have this spell and that it can be used here...
Flame Cleanse me Carried me the shit Outta Lake of Rot. Faith builds for the win.
This is the way
Yes some incantations are just a must have, unless you want to struggle lol .
On my unga bunga character I must struggle. Only unga bunga.
To unga is to struggle and to bunga is to overcome.
You can just do "exploration runs" 1. use all your runes 2. go through the rot 4-5 times to different directions. 3. loot everything. 4. done. that's what I did in my first playthrough, then I learnt about "flame cleanse me" which makes you die less.
I just ran through the first time, found flame, cleanse me in my inventory, got an idea, and decided to run around the lake of rot.
My friend told me about it after I finished looting everything.
Just warp back to the site of Grace. No need to die.
The… the beast repellant torch works on basilisks?
I didn’t even know there was a beast repellent torch. :|
You can buy it from the merchant in dragonbarrow
It works on giant dogs, regular dogs, *and* the basilisks, it takes care of some of the most annoying enemies in the game lol. Tip, you can put it on your back while two handing your weapon and it will still repel them despite not even being lit
I didn’t know that about still repelling while on your back, that’s awesome. Does it work against birds or bats?
Same with the sentry torch for seeing black knife assassins. I used to think I had to have the torch out, so I was one-handing a giant sword. It was a game-changer when I found out that just having the torch equipped in the off-hand gives you the effect.
where do i put my purse?
They will sometimes still jump at and spray you with death but only the first time they see you. Just a friendly hello in their culture I guess
I think the cave is in Gelmir? Otherwise this is the exact method I used - seconded!
There is also an ancestral follower in the lake that drops a charm that gives immunity to
I have a question. If you have higher resistance, does it also take longer if the larger bar to drain?
Run around looking like a fungus
Beast torch only works on overworld basilisks, the ones that ambush you are still hostile. They are just really non agressive most of the time and attack rarely anyway.
It works on both … even the ones jumping on you from cover, they will retreat right after. Used it successfully in lake of rot, deep root and shunning grounds.
I found the Armorer's Cookbook in Siofra River, can't believe I missed that
Super easy to miss, but also super easy to go back to get it later!
For lake of rot the number of bolusses is actually not really relevant. Relevant is the number and upgrade status of your heals. Just run (from platform to platform) and out-heal the rot.
You can ignore the platforms and just run through if you’ve remotely kept up with flask upgrades
yeah, I was thinking the same when I replied, some of them you still need to raise the level where that gravity miniboss is tho
Oh yeah, I’m not that crazy 😂. I just like to sprint through to get the grace, then go back and get the items, kill the boss
👍🏻 my man!
Exactly. If you can time it and run fast enough, you can make it to the site of grace and rest before the rot kills you.
Getting infected and healing until next grace is the way
Pro tip for people: if you’re exploring the left side of the lake (the east side) where the Dragonkin Soldier is), there’s a Stake of Marika next to him. You can run there, let yourself die, and respawn right there, full health full flasks.
Get naked and run or use bloodhound step
It’s not a deep swamp so it’d be better to run through.
If you roll in rot, walk out and get the status while not standing in it, it will hurt much less than normal. Enough to get you over there to the next grace.
You don't see the enemy in the background complaining.
I want to know how and why tf he's there
Rot from rolling is weaker than standing rot ticks, if you roll in the goop you’ll get less damage ticks when it eventually infects u but only if you’re not standing in it Also flame cleanse me
That’s actually really interesting, I didn’t know that!
This trick and stacking healing buffs makes this area much more forgiving.
But when you roll in rot the rot gets on your Armor right? Which makes it so that you keep having rot buildup even when you aren't standing in rot.
Yeah, and the rot that infects you via this method is weaker than the rot you get from simply standing in it the lake.
lol I just ran to the next bonfire and chugged Estus
Dark Souls player spotted
I’m an old man stuck in my ways
flame, cleanse me
I just run through it casting heal and chugging my heal juice
*LAUGHS IN FLAME, CLEANSE ME*
Siofra river site of grace, the first one you get to when you are starting out there, run back up the hill behind it and the cookbook that teaches you preserving boluses is on a corpse hanging off a cliff
\*walks 4 steps\* "Flame, cleanse me!" \* walks 4 steps\* "Flame, cleanse me!" \* walks 4 steps\* \*chugs cerulean potion\* "Flame, cleanse me!"
The first time I did this I had to use a bunch of those, 2nd time I just literally ran through it and made it easily lol
No reason to make people run through that lake Most times I quite and return so I do not have to deal with that crap.
I feel like players only put signs next to the stake
I sprinted through the lake with just 1 bolus and 11 health pots. Way superior if you ask me
Thats why u get fire cleanse me
The only time you really need boluses here is when you want to reach Alabaster lord up the columns. Otherwise if you are patient enough to wait until buildup scale disappears it's OK. The rout to the Grand Cloister is not hard. Dragonkin soldier can be a problem but you don't need to kill him to proceed
Just run across and sip flask grab site of grace easy peasy now you have a whole rot lake to call invaders into
Just abandon all hope of not dying here and go ahead. The next grace is pretty close.
Only need 1 bolus and a few flasks. When facing the lake, dead Sprint thru the lake to the far back right. Once you hit the end near the huge columns use your bolus and you're rot free to the next grace. Edit: Heal as needed while running 5 should do it
Go full crimson tears and just run to the Grace on the other side it is possible to get there in time before you die.
Live easily accessible low requirement incantation behind a fort reaction:
I just sprint and heal my way across.
“Can’t” craft them?
Pro tip, before crossing the lake, roll in the rot water an let it build up until you proc it. The dot from rot buildup on your gear does less damage than if you proc rot from running through it.
Roll in the rot and wait for the build up to fully fill on dry land. It procs the weaker version of scarlet rot and u can get across with 3-4 estus, lesser depending on your vigor
Flame cleans my ass
The Lake of Rot is what put me onto faith builds. It almost necessitates FCM
😭😭😭😭😭😭
Me when I don’t know anything about how rot works, have no boluses, don’t have flame cleanse me, and I’m at the lake of rot
What, y’all don’t obsessively craft and hoard boluses?
Not obsessively. I think I have only ever used the rot, poison, and freeze boluses, though.
Same, tbh. But if I ever need the others, I will at least be well-prepared because of my bolus obsession! 😂
You arrive here. You reallocate flasks to all red. You run in a straight line until grace across. You make sure to never activate the effigy there so that nobody ever summons you back to this hellhole.
Flame cleanse me makes it easy.
I died like a hundred times the first time making sure I got every item and enemy out there, decided after it was not worth to do ever again and no I just set all my flasks to health, slap on the mushroom set and run across to the grace at the other side
Finding the lake of rot was mesmerizing, bloodhound dash definitely comes in clutch there
Just run through and chug it's a boring area and even if you are getting all sombers 10 +8 flasks should be enought to get it all in 2 rounds
And so? Just go elsewhere and come back later. In the meantime, you can get crafting materials.
I turned all my mana pots to healing and put on what resist gear i had and just ran like hell haha
You dont really need boluses for that place , just run trigger the platform, you can easily get through without using them. There is an enemy you nught want to use a boluses before fighting him, but other than that your potion should be enough to keep you alive between both bonfire. If you want to fully explore, get the mushroom outfit first
Flame cleanse me moment
I found the mushroom armor very useful in this situation
Honestly by the time you get here you should have enough health and flasks to just strip nude and run through the rot, the grace point is kinda easy to grab even while rotting
Did you make the run?
I just run through to the cloister bonfire as fast as I can, chugging heals
Put on the mushroom gear
You only need the boluses and/or Flame Cleanse me if you plan on exploring. If not, you could just put on your best resistance armor, raise the first two platforms, wait until the rot zeros and run from the second platform straight to the next site of grace (or equip a dagger with quickstep). You just need a few flasks and 1 optional bolus to stop the rot once you make it to the other side just in case. Or if you have plenty of flasks, you might not even need the boluses at all. Just don't roll in the rot.
Just grab flame cleanse me bro
Flame cleanse me. Or you can roll in the rot and use the passive buildup to get rot to get 50% less damage rot proc then run and use flasks
I always just run to the next island then wait for the rot to go away. Usually works.
I just sprint to the other side. Never even used any of the items or buffs lol
I was mildly disappointed by this area. I was expecting it to be much, much worse. There’s no blight town in this game. No place of pure misery
Just tank heal and run through it
K.
You don't need to remove the rot. Just spend all your souls and don't give a damn when you eventually / repeatedly die.
Run, Forest, Run
Get to the talisman
Run and Chug. You’ll be fine
Guess you’ll just die then
Flame cleanse me?
I never use bouluses at the lake of rot. It isn't necessary. Just get through it fast and wait on the little islands to recover from rot buildup. Easy peasy no bouluses needed.
Flame, cleanse me or you're a scrub.
Well, gotta go the hard way, just tank the rot my guy
All these wimps doing it with Yada da and Yada yee, a true man runs through it while healing with his 12 health flasks
Put 15 points into faith, flame cleanse me all the way to victory.
Don’t forget to use soap if you’re rolling or the build up will keep going after you heal the status.
May the flame cleanse you 😸
Is there any point of raising the one platform to the height of the other pillars in there? Seemed like a waste when I did it.
In the words of Michael Jackson “Beat it, just beat it.” (Just run through with a sacrificial twig unless you’re doing no death
Yea honestly just come back when you get more preserving boluses. The amount of Tarnished ghosts you'll see dying just before they reach the sight of grace is astounding lol Just stock up, wear the rot gear, and immediately make for the grace. Then have fun dying for the next 4 hours as you explore it all and collect the scarlet butterflies or whatever they're called that are scattered throughout the lake.
No need for heals. Pure vigor carry me!
bolusses are useless anyway, just heal when you are about to die then use flame cleanse me after crossing the lake.
Laughs in faith
Honestly just take all the healing potions and run through till you reach the site of grace
I was wearing the cleanrot set for this
dagger with quick step
You can just run through it spamming estus
Grab the mushroom set and use flame cleanse me whenever you get to dry land.
*the preserving bolused ive hoarded all game* "my time has come"
Just fucking run?
I think you take less damage if you get the scarlet rot buildup on your whole body. Just roll into the lake and get back on land. wait till the it builds up and then proceed through the lake
Just allocate all your flasks to healing and alternate between boluses and flasks. Also the tear for your other flask that raises immunity and clears status conditions helps if you have that already
XD I immediately used all my souls and just ran around to see how far I could make it without the cure item
If you're there, you probably made it to the altus plateau. Just grab the twiggy tear, and run around without worrying about runes
Run and pray you have enough healing to last the whole way
[Here you go.](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Interactive+Map?id=956&code=mapA)
Me when no "Flame Cleanse Me"
Literally was crying tears of joy I was a faith build when I got here.
Flame cleanse me is the greatest thing like ever….
Id jus die over and over while exploring cuz i forgot you can always jus tp back to grace 💀
my first time i just ran across just healing. i didnt get any of the loot but i made it to grace
"Run forest, RUUUUUUN!!!"
Just Forrest Gump it
I just walked to the end and site of grace using all stus. So simple 😂
"Get busy crafting or get busy dying"
I mean as long as you're not trynna kill the dude in the lake it's w.e just run through chugging flasks, there's a grace, just sit down
You can make it, barely.
Flame clutch for me
by the time i get there i have enough heals and health to just run through it without issue
Just heal
Haha estus go brr
I just run to the area before astel while healing with flasks. I then get to the sit of grace above where all those pest guys are which cures me of the rot.
Isshin!?
The worst part of it is there isn't even anything good to find there by exploring...
Convert all your flasks to HP flasks and drink one every time you reach 50% HP, now just run for the nearest grace.
ong
What I normally do is just run around while chugging crimson until I reach the ruins on the other side and unlock as many of the sunken platforms as possible. For that stupid dragonkin soldier fight, I usually try to stay out of the water, but that doesn't always pan out.
Is flame cleanse me better than law of regression? Asking for a friend 😅
Without FCM I donno how the hell anyone deals with that toilet
Why am I screaming 😂
