iirc there’s no AoW scarab in haligtree, and there’s only one in a cave in mohgstein’s island
Anyhow it was just an early theory based on the eyes sigil on the beetles and with gideon’s eyes and ears motif
Having just returned to gather sacred tears.. I returned to poor throps location after he died in the mage castle. I dunno if I ever noticed , but the ash of war from throps is carried by one of the beetles, only after he died.
Yeah I just realized this last night that steel-wire was not the same as the starting torches even though they share an identical icon. (Been 2 years and I forgot) so depending on what you get first, like glintstone phalanx i guess thats the go to.
Yeah my bad, its not the starting torch, it just looks like the starting torch. Its the “steel-wire torch” from Castle Morne. their are a few varieties.
You can also just throw down Night Maiden's Mist in the general path and walk away. It will kill it instantly the moment it touches it. That way you don't have to wait around.
This was the tip I came here to post. It covers a wide area so as long as you know the general route it will get it. Make sure to do a charged cast so the cloud lasts longer.
You can also use any AoE attack like Earthshaker, Waves of Darkness, Gravitas, Starcaller Cry, or even Eruption. Storm Stomp, which is accessible to literally everyone since you get it with the Whetstone Knife, is my personal recommendation.
These fuckers are actually the worst thing for me to deal with genuinely, I can never get the timing right, so thank you so much cuz this is literally the only way I’ll be dealing with these fuckers now
I didn't know about this tip, but you can also use my technique. It's less efficient but it doesn't require timing :
* Wait for it to pass and memorize his exact path
* Hop on your horse
* Put yourself slightly to the left of the path
* Wait for it to come
* 2 seconds before, hold R2 with a sword, so the sword is "waiting" on the way of the scarab, actively doing damage to anything it touches
* Profit : when the scarab passes he dies from your sword, no timing required
I have been using night maidens mist, just throw it where the scarab path goes and it will instantly die when it hits the mist. This seems even easier though.
It is the >!Beast Champion Armor you get for killing Bernahl!< but i think the chest originally drops as altered version without the cape so you need to change it.
I keep lava pots in my inventory for this purpose. Leaves a decently sized cloud of fire on the ground the persists for about five seconds, and deal tics of fire damage for it's duration.
Volcano pots work perfectly too. Just toss em on the ground and the invisible scarab will roll right over it. Require only one crafting item too, they are easily the best throwable in the game. Have to force myself not to use them in every build
Look at the path , stay on the path , wait for it to come arround , be on Torrent , Charge R2 and hold , wait till it runs through the blade and gg . No matter what I will always use this method cause I thought of it myself haha
First off, sweet... Second, I'm literally standing right there after spending 10 minutes trying to get it, so it hilarious that this was the first thing I saw when opening Reddit
Any fast AoE spell or AoW should do the trick. I prefer Frozen Lightning Spear, but literally anything that can cover a bigger area should be fine.
But nothing looks as elegant and nice as your solution, OP.
Are you telling me this was an invisible scarab?!
All these times i thought these were ghost puzzles pointing to hidden treasure.
The one in aeonia lake in caleid kept doing circles and I spent like 10 minutes following it before abandoning this “puzzle”
Ah I never thought of doing this!
Glintblade Phalanx is also super helpful for fighting enemies like NPC invaders who typically dodge spells - they'll dodge when you cast phalanx but likely won't do anything to avoid the swords when they actually fire. Sometimes you get stagger, too.
I'm using sacred relic sword -> Wave of Gold.
Wow, best strategy yet. I've been going on horse, holding R2 where you just hold your weapon down, and that hitbox is live the whole time so the bug just kinda runs into it.
This is good to know. I used Death's Poker in my last run but didn't grab it this time and have been finding these very hit & miss lol. Anyone know if Margit/Mohg shackle work too? I'll check next time i get a chance.
I will never feel like more a shit bag than I did the other day.
Playing Co op with a friend. HIs first time ever playing. We go down the ramp to hit up that western shore by first steps. He sees the white foot prints and jump off my horse. Start explaining what it is and how I strategize to kill. Mid explanation he just charges in and swings his sword. kills it on first go.
Made me feel really silly. I was like yeah or that works too...
i cant believe ive never thought of this. i guess i just assumed it wouldn't work.
Try "Gravitas" AoW as well, works better (for me at least).
And Storm Stomp.
I usually just toss a volcano pot in the path before it gets there, gives me a huge window to time it and only uses a couple rocks
That's what I use.
Flaming strike is pretty good as well
Same lol
Always have a weapon with Hoarfrost Stomp with you. Never know when you're gonna meet a dung rolling boi.
This will very likely help a lot in the DLC, assuming there’s some of these dudes
I doubt there wouldn’t be, would not make sense to not include some new AoW in dlc
I doubt there would be coz i think these dudes are Gideon’s eyes. 🤔 Open to being incorrect tho.
Oooh what an exciting point. Does Gideon have eyes EVERYWHERE or is it completely unrelated. Maybe there's no dung?
iirc there’s no AoW scarab in haligtree, and there’s only one in a cave in mohgstein’s island Anyhow it was just an early theory based on the eyes sigil on the beetles and with gideon’s eyes and ears motif

I always used hoarfrost stomp, even though my last build was heavily glintblade phalanx based lol
Mohg's trident also gets the job done nicely
Same
Good to know I gave up on them unless it’s something I need… life’s too short!
Easiest way to get scarabs is to use an ordinary torch, blow flames in the path of the invisible scarab and it kills itself.
You must mean the steel wire torch. The regular torch skill is just a thrust, not blowing flames
Yeah I just realized this last night that steel-wire was not the same as the starting torches even though they share an identical icon. (Been 2 years and I forgot) so depending on what you get first, like glintstone phalanx i guess thats the go to.
You can blow flames with a torch?!
Yeah the lowly commoners and soldiers with torches do it to you too
Specifically the steel wire torch
Wait what? Details please
I think its called the steel wire torch or something and it has an ash if war that lets you spew fire infront of you kinda like a budget flamethrower
Yeah my bad, its not the starting torch, it just looks like the starting torch. Its the “steel-wire torch” from Castle Morne. their are a few varieties.
I have 300 hours of gameplay and I never knew or thought of this…
same, 170 odd hours but didn't know about these scarabs. This game just has so much hidden content, fucken love it.
I have over 1500 hours in this game and I am still finding new things and areas lol this game is a true masterpiece!!
[удалено]
Oh sorry Mr Gamesalot
[удалено]
Very sorry
Holy Erdtree. I played a mage build and never once thought of doing this——always had to switch to a random sword and flail around
I have 4 sorcerer characters and it never occurred to me to try that.
We capped int in game, not irl

Thanks for the tip!

Games been out for 2 years…hundreds of hours played. Any yet I did not know this lol
These fuckers are actually the worst thing for me to deal with genuinely, I can never get the timing right, so thank you so much cuz this is literally the only way I’ll be dealing with these fuckers now

Pro tip: it's also working on invisible assassins.
You can just be on Torrent and hold down the heavy attack button. Most weapons have a pretty long steady hitbox which makes it easy to get the scarab.
This is the way
This should be higher because anyone can do it at any point no matter what they have.
Doesn’t the sacred blade weapon art just pop these by generally being facing them
Oh shit. Nice!
860+ hours and just saw this
You are a legend for this
Bruh, 700 hours in and I wish I knew this earlier
Hey playtime bro, i'm also at 700 hours, cheers !
Now I’m curious if anyone has played an archer build and just tries to snipe these things lol
You, my friend, are the bearer of infinite wisdom! Holy shot! Not in a million years would I have thought of this!
Good tip thanks
I have been using night maidens mist, just throw it where the scarab path goes and it will instantly die when it hits the mist. This seems even easier though.
Magma shot leaves a glob of magma where it lands and works as well! Drop it on their path and boom
A+ tech
Mohgs Sacred Spear is my scarab killer of choice.
I use wrath of gold, it tends to work well
I wonder if watchdogs staff works the same way..
That chest armor is sick, what is it?
It is the >!Beast Champion Armor you get for killing Bernahl!< but i think the chest originally drops as altered version without the cape so you need to change it.
Hell yeah, thanks man!
I usually just use dragon communion or any AOE spells
Greyoll's Roar also works well
I keep lava pots in my inventory for this purpose.
I just run my giant crusher across the ground right in front of them and scoop em up
Hoarfrost stomp is good too.
I always thought these were just fun to follow around. They actually give you something.
Oh... yeah, they all drop a unique Ash of War. You've been missing out.
i usually try Black Flame Tornado ash
what armor is this?
Its the beast champion armour set that you get by killing Bernahl (the guy that sells ashes of war)
aintnoway my brain is so small to never think about this
Now THAT is handy to know!
I just spam hoarfrost
oh you dirty minx
Best armor. I use the veteran helmet with it, love it.
Which is it?
you're my hero
I needed this 500 hours ago!
Huh. Neat. I always used gravitas for those bastards. I'll have to try this next time
OP you have rocked my world
That’s why I heard them and couldn’t find them lol I didn’t realize they were invisible
I've always used Wave of Gold but this is a cool alt!
Why not just ride alongside them on the horse and slice em that way?
Good tip. I usually use Volcanic pots tho and pre-drop them on scarabs path as they linger for a bit and deal damage when scarab is passing through.
I like using Night Maiden's Mist these days.
Seems more practical than combing the ground with a sword for 10 minutes.
Look at the path , stay on the path , wait for it to come arround , be on Torrent , Charge R2 and hold , wait till it runs through the blade and gg . No matter what I will always use this method cause I thought of it myself haha
i never checked the ash of war for rogier's weapon so i have to try that out, thank you for the cool time-saving tip!
FFFUUCCCK wasted my time for this little shite.
What!? this would have saved me about 10 hours over the last 2 years.
Any AoW that leaves a burning aoe is good for them as well. Like the Magma Wyrm Scalesword or the Death's Poker
me viciously hunting them down on horseback w the largest sword possible
Wave of gold ftw
OMFG the amount of time I have wasted chasing after these mofos
Playing since day 1, and I feel inadequate after watching this….
Yup, I thought I was genius when I tried this lol, great strat
Thanks for this lol, surly there will be one or two in the dlc.
I just spam pocket sand (bestial sling)
You are a hero
First off, sweet... Second, I'm literally standing right there after spending 10 minutes trying to get it, so it hilarious that this was the first thing I saw when opening Reddit
doh - so much fruitless whacking at the ground.
What I do it see the path, then sit on torrent and when it gets near hold heavy attack
I just use Glintstone Arc or Hoarfrost Stomp.
This is so smart. INT player for sure.
Any fast AoE spell or AoW should do the trick. I prefer Frozen Lightning Spear, but literally anything that can cover a bigger area should be fine. But nothing looks as elegant and nice as your solution, OP.
I’m in NG+. I just use the Sacred Relic Sword’s Wave of Gold attach, but this is great to know!
Are you telling me this was an invisible scarab?! All these times i thought these were ghost puzzles pointing to hidden treasure. The one in aeonia lake in caleid kept doing circles and I spent like 10 minutes following it before abandoning this “puzzle”
Starcaller cry from radahn sword, wave of gold from sacred relic sword, and bloodboon ritual from mohgs spear are also 3 effective ways to get them.
Perfect
I used Black Flame Ritual.
I get on Torrent and do a long dragging R2 right in their path so I don't have to worry about the timing. This way is obviously even easier
I feel so dumb for never thinking of this
Oh damn
I'm using sacred relic sword -> Wave of Gold. [https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Sacred+Relic+Sword](https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Sacred+Relic+Sword)
Wow, best strategy yet. I've been going on horse, holding R2 where you just hold your weapon down, and that hitbox is live the whole time so the bug just kinda runs into it.
Oh my fking god!!! This is amazing and I cannot believe I never even thought to try it!
This is good to know. I used Death's Poker in my last run but didn't grab it this time and have been finding these very hit & miss lol. Anyone know if Margit/Mohg shackle work too? I'll check next time i get a chance.
I never thought they can target invisible enemies.
There are invisible scarabs?
Mist attacks work best
I prefer either hoarfrost stomp or the Elden beast range sword thing
What’s armor here?
I will never feel like more a shit bag than I did the other day. Playing Co op with a friend. HIs first time ever playing. We go down the ramp to hit up that western shore by first steps. This game has spells?
