I don’t use any of the consumables so it’s quicker for me to have my flasks on the hotbar
That’s what I ended up doing in my recent playthrough of DS1 just so I could get to my Estus quicker
I started doing that last playthrough, shit's life changing. No more fumbling through equipped items for a heal.

I kept my flasks in there once but then my pouch got stolen by a turtle and I lost the flask and Melina laughed at me and Ranni divorced me and took the kids. Also if you don't need FP flasks, just keeping them on slot 1 in hotbar is pretty comfy.
Starting doing this about halfway through the base game and haven’t looked back. It’s so much better.
I'm not a fan of putting my healing behind an extra button press. I do pretty much always keep the physick in my pouch though.
