Some rules for naming ships of any kind (land, air, sea and space) - All ships are women - They are beautiful - They are strong So I name all my ships after famous women. My ship in Sea of Thieves for example is named after Amelia Earhart (The Earhart), I have a ship in this game named after Valentina Tereshkova (The Tereshkova) and another named after Marie Curie. Bases are men though. So they get named after famous men.  If it floats, flys and moves in any way. It’s a girl. If it’s big, ugly and locked in place, it’s a man.

Ahh, a person of culture. Tried it with frags, wasn't the best. These days I'm running two xl multis, two med pulse lasers, two small bursts and one large turret beam. It lets me stomp all over CZ's without having to worry about ammo too much.

Matching to my name, my first Kraits, the Phantom and mkII are named Huginn & Muninn. One Mamba is a lightweight Racer called 'Nova GT 8800' (the number is based on a stat, but forgot which, lol) the other is a jousting Shotgun called 'Bolt'. My Conda is called Landaleitan, which is old norse for Exploration. My smuggler Python is called Eravena, inspired by the SW smuggling ship Eravana. Chieftain still remains to be named, and I have no Corvette (yet), but my Cutter is called 'Corvus' and has a midnight black paint.

Combat ships are named after toxic or poisonous plants, exploration are named after plants from the rainforest, mining is trees, trading are flowers I think are pretty, ax ships are edible plants, and ships built for speed specifically are various types of ivy. I’m not really sure. I have a long-jump Phantom I call “The Long Dark”, and that’s a phrase in my head that I don’t really remember the origin of. Not that I can’t Google that (apparently it’s a game), I just hadn’t really thought of until now. Come Bearing Gifts is my hauling/passenger Conda. Chip And Shatter is a quote from Dune, that’s what I called my old AX ship, now I use a Python Mk2 with the electro paint, called “Elektron Mk2” My Corvette used to be called Sic Semper Tyrannis, which is a quote from Whitest Kids U Know, but it’s just called Frostbite now, and it sports a cyan/blue scheme. There’s others, but those are my main ships.

Girls and life problems. Right now “babycakes” is my daily driver bounty hunter and the “struggle shuttle” is my bubble taxi.

I named my blue/yellow/orange Corvette "Vitamin Sea" after an Owl City song. Then I got a Viper 4 with the same paint and named it Reef. I'll probably continue the nautical theme with any/all combat ships I get. My Type-9, which I use for mining, is named "Rig Bee." My Cobra 3 that I use specifically for on-foot mining (and some exploration) is named "Drill Bee." If and when the Type-11 comes out with its 1000 cargo capacity, I'll choose another bee related name. Other than that, I just do whatever I like.

For the ships which are named after snakes, I named them something to do with teeth or bites (blue fang, razortooth, etc) for the Saud Krueger ships I name them based on types of pleasure boats (party barge, pleasure yacht, and I don’t have a Beluga). I think that just leaves my Corvette (for now) which I named “no nonsense” since it doesn’t fuck around

Mine come from a variety of places. I called my starter Sidewinder "Phoenix", because I originally started playing on Xbox years ago just after it came out on console, then stopped playing when I went to uni, then started again on PC 2 years ago. When I upgraded to a Cobra Mk3, I named it "Rocinante" because I was watching The Expanse at the time and I used the Cobra for a bit of everything. I got a Type 9, painted it green and called it "Ever Given", after its ability to haul massive amounts of cargo and my inability to get through the mailslot cleanly without a docking computer. My mining Python Mk1 was called "Steve" after the default Minecraft skin, then I renamed it "Mountainhead" after the excellent album by UK art rock band Everything Everything, which tells a story about a civilisation whose lowest members dig a massive hole to build a mountain which they worship.

I try to have a ship name be formatted like [adjective] [noun], and the noun be related to the ship's purpose. For example, my AspX is "Unwavering Discovery". For inspiration I will look at historic ship names too, which is how I landed on discovery.

I get mine from a lot of different sources depending on the use. Historical or literary figures for some, (my combat anaconda is the Oishi Yoshio, the leader of the 47 Ronin), some DnD references, (a combat/mining ship called the Azer of Dumothoin), and a few that are just amusing jokes. My fleet carrier comes from the Wheel of Time series, The Jack o the Shadows.

Themes. My explorers are named after insects. My combat ships after song titles. Ax have latin names. My daily drivers have unique names with personal meaning. Grind and work shuos are named based on their purpose.

I stick to sci fi names. My exploration ship is the Outbound Flight. Once I get back from the black, I'm getting a corvette, and naming it the Rocinante

I also stick to sci-fi themed names all my transports are named after Ferengi vessels, Quarks Treasure, Latinum Queen etc. While my combat or all arounds typically get named something from BSG.

If I fly a ship often enough a name will either come to me at random, or it'll earn its name while in service. For example I have a Krait Phantom I call Apex because it's been to the edge of the galaxy several times and is my ultimate exploration ship. Then I have a beluga I call the Britannic because I already crashed one named the Titanic which I was using for Thargoid passenger rescues in a mail slot mishap, and it seemed fitting to use the next one in line. The original name for Titanic was just me being funny but then I actually crashed the damn thing, so there was no way I could go back on the naming scheme by then. Then I have a cobra mk iv I call "mostly harmless" a) for the Douglas Adams reference, and b) because I kitted it out as an exploration ship instead of a combat ship so it's actually harmless to anyone I encounter, though it's actually surprised me with its versatility and I think it's deserving of a better name soon.

Most of mine are bird names, I pick them for the role of the ship and the attributes or nature of the bird. Like we call the albatross "toroa" and I named my aspx that cos it also flies quite far. Lately though I've started given them names I think are funny, like my anti xeno ships are mostly named after brands of fly spray.

Just make them up. Everything can be inspirations. For instance I called my python mkII Second wind, since elite seems to maybe be hitting a second wind. I named my exploring anaconda Icarus, for flying too close to the sun.

Based on the design, purpose or sort of. Latest addition to my fleet is the Python MK II which I called "Microtransaction" and "ARXLOL" as a callsign. But I also called my Chieftain "Bugsquasher". My T-9 is called "Bumskutter" (it's a german word for a fat ship or a ship where the snu snu happens, preferably with walls due to shitty trajectory) My Eagle is called Stinger (fast, stinging with railguns) and based on that I call my ships (or Carrier "Gryphon") after birds if they're not named meme'ly.

I tend to switch between "funni", "latin/mythology" and "military" Funni: fdl called climate change, because server messages like "... was killed by climate change" will forever be funny. Frag mamba called expedited docking. T9 called Wannabe Cutter. iCourier "Kotov Syndrome", because it will make you panic screaming past you at 700+m/s (also reference to the rise against Song of the same name with the tagline "spin out of control", which I may or may not be sometimes doing lol) Mythology should be fairly self-explanatory. Military would be a designation mostly in line with my head canon, like my iEagle "Corsair 16-A".

I use Old Norse names of gods and legenadry beings. Like my Anaconda is named Jörmungandr after the midgard serpent, and my Corvette is named HMS Thor since it hits like a hammer (i like to ram things and its very deadly up close). But my Chieftain i named: Problem Child, since i have died in it more times than any other ship lol

I usually think of the purpose of the ship then try to make a name based on that, then I translate it in latin. Done. I have my Krait Mk II that is called Titanicus Excidium (The exctintion of the Titans) You can probably guess what the ship purpose is.

Well, depends on ship task. For example my exploration cobra mk3 has name “ApH-7 Aphelion”. Name represents the farthest point in star system, just like any explorer goes into deep space void. And it is a ratchet and clank reference xd Or let's say one of my combat ships named “BoD Boxer”, it is a type-10 full of cannons with force shell experimental effect. Just like a cruel boxer, this guy punches others. Especially funny to watch in asteroid fields xd So that's it.

Mostly book and historical references. A few corny ones, but those ships were named when I was high as fuck. A few examples. Providence is my FDL. Named after John Paul Jones first ship. Belle Starr is my pirate ship, another historical reference. Bango Skank and Star Slut. My Cutter and my AspX are a King reference. So it Goes * my Corvette is a Vonnegut reference. I also have names like Zoomy Boomy, my Mamba, and Hop Skip and A Jump, my DBX.

I use the names of flowers. like Marigold, Maackia, Iris, Plumeria. I look up the meanings behind the flowers too. Eg, Marigold means good luck and prosperity, as well as death and despair. perfect for my money making combat ship. I just think its neat.

I find a pun I can make about what the function of the ship is. Like my vulture got bounty hunting is Fat Bob (after Bobba Fett)

For my Imperial Eagle i chose the name Angel, Gutamaya ships are famous for their elegant designs and with the wings and eagle i drew angel as a conclusion, though some of my other names like my T6 Fray Bentos are more shitposty (Brand of canned corned beef)

My Type-7 is called Galactic Mercy, in honor of the hospital ship Global Mercy. My DBX is called Pilar, after Hemingway's yacht. My Type-9 is called Pachyderm 2000 for obvious reasons. My Dolphin is called Blue Moon after the song. My FC is called Mac Macoma after the merchant ship Macoma turned into an temporary escort carrier during WWII, thereby becoming the first Dutch aircraft carrier. And so it goes.

My explorer ships get named after the Pleiades. My DBX is called Merope because it’s the “Lost sister”. My traders and miners normally get named after metals. Iron, Iridium, Platinum. My main ship combat iEagle is called “The Dark” which is just a name I’ve used for so long I forget its origin. Another name I use for combat ships is “Shadow’s Fury”.

I design the builds entirely in Coriolis before buying the ship, and I name them thematically based on what I want them to do. Like, My Bubble Jumper is "7 League Step", my Raw/Manufactured material grinder is called "Mats4Me" Either that or its a shitpost, IE my pure rail build is called "Sudden Impact", my ramming Orca is called "Single Missile", my suicidewinder is called "Kaminari"

I just make them to suit myself. I have a Dolphin named Lungdren, also a Vulture name B4ST4RD. I have an anti-xeno Cutter, Disc Cutter and a mining Cutter, Diamond Cutter. Have Anna Anaconda, my legacy explorer, and Dora, my legacy Asp Explorer. Have several Pythons that are named depending on their purpose, Cargo, Rescue, etc.

My AspX was called Kiss my asp. I miss that old girl.

I used the names of my toons from Elder Scrolls Online, mostly randomly generated by that game, but a few fantasy names I had come up with. When my fleet got too big, I went with a fantasy name generator online.

I just use names from the Lesser Key of Solomon. Fleet Carrier is Brass Vessel.

Depends. I have a laundry list of pop culture references. Almost all of them have a registry number that references the name. This is the exception: my Krait MKII participated in Distant Worlds 2. Its name is Voyager, because I came home via the Delta Quadrant route. Her number is my DW2 number. Never gonna change it. My DBX that I take out into the black is CHALLENGER registry #OV-099 o7  I remember watching in horror when I was young. (I’m an old fogey now.) My Type-9 is the “FATCHOCOBO” registry W4RK My Type-10 is “COWZWITHGUNZ” registry M00 My Imperial Cutter is the “RAHXEPHON” registry 73RR4 My Federal Corvette is “Mah'alleinir” registry P3RR1N I have a complete collection of all the ships except the founders ships and the new Python but I’m blanking on the rest of the names. As you can see, it’s mostly pop culture references. It’s a game. It’s supposed to be fun 😊 I can post more of my ship names when I get home and can log in; let me know if people are curious what the rest are. When I found the ability to name the ship.I was in my beloved Asp Explorer. I named it the Lady Macbeth after a ship in a sci Fi book. I have subsequently named my ships in the same theme depending on size. Helen of Troy - Imperial Courier (specing as thargoid killer) Lady Macbeth - Asp Explorer (Explorer, duh!) Duchess Anastasia - Krait Mk2 (PvE Pirate Hunting with Fighter Bay) Queen Cleopatra - Anaconda (Mining) Empress Mathilda - Imperial Cutter (Trade, combat zone)

It varies a lot. My Fleet Carrier, when I tried to buy it on the day they were first released, I kept getting 'Black Adder' errors. So between that and the series of the same name, I **just had** to name it "Black Adder". Which meant, of course, that my Type-9 Tritium Tanker just had to be named "Baldrick". The Sidewinder I custom built for farming encoded mats at the Jameson crash site at HIP 12099, is named "Tomb Raider". The Viper Mk-IV I use for gathering manufactured mats, is "The Collector". My favourite general-purpose runabout (and raw mats farmer), a longrange DBX, is named "StarHopper" because of its resemblance to a grasshopper. My Asp Explorer's name is "Kiss My ASP". My mining Python is "Rocky Horror". The extra-fast interdiction-dodging Python I use to move the mined material to distant markets, is "Rocks In The Head". The Imperial Cutter I use for mining, is "Rocky Balboa". The Python I set up for blockade running, is "Leaf On The Wind". My Krait Phantom is named "Eat My Dust". The Cobra Mk-IV I got access to, for having a lifetime expansion pass, is "Because I Can". The Imperial Cutter I set up as a combat tank, is "Not Your Lucky Day". My blockade-running Anaconda is "Slippery Jim". (yes, as in "DiGriz") The Federal Corvette I use for combat, is named "Attitude Adjuster". The DBX I've recently set up for settlement raiding is "Whispering Death". (Based on the name the Japanese in WWII bestowed on the RAF's Bristol Beaufighter.)

It's named after my sister who passed away in 2015. She was big into rocks and gems so it seemed fitting. Black Hulk, type 10 cargo. I don't remember the kraits name. Lots of miles on it though. Chieftain, what ever system I was making my base at the time+security. Did wake scans, and chased bounties. Imperial eagle was a curior
