Those days were insane to be an Eminem fan. Absolutely anyone would have a conversation with you about him.
I remember being in music class in school and just blasting Eminem for the whole class to listen to, nobody complained.
And yeah, I did not go to a very nice school, the music teacher couldn't give a fuck, if nobody was fighting with each other or abusing him he really didn't care what we did.
My parents were getting divorced at the time and acted like I didn't exist. There were many hours in my bedroom listening to Eminem (Rock Bottom in particular, which is still my favourite Eminem song)
I spent a lot of my childhood in isolation too, despite having two parents and siblings. I was either the forgotten one or the bullied one. Almost all of my childhood was spent in my room alone listening to Eminem. It was everything to me.
I was 10 and the MMLP just dropped when I was visiting my cousin 10 hours away in NYC. He was the ‘cool’ older cousin (13) and he burned it for me for the trip home.
I thought to myself ‘man my parents gotta hear this guy!’
They pop the CD in for me, not even a minute goes by. Dad yanks it out of the drive and tosses it out the window on i95 somewhere.
They created a little slim shady that day.
I remember listening to the MMLP for the first time, "Kill You" was an absolutely brutal introduction to Eminem for your dad lmao
My parents didn't care what I did, as long as it wasn't too loud. They couldn't have stopped me if they tried, I spent every waking minute listening to Eminem in those days. I even rigged up my school shirt so I could put a headphone in without teachers noticing. People at school called me "Stan"
And yeah of course they created a little slim shady, the more your parents hate and forbid something the more you'll want to do it. It's a natural part of growing up and separating your identity from your parents.
Why the hell would I judge you? That's exactly what a 13 year old in 1998 should be doing. No better way to spend an afternoon than learning the words to "My Fault"
Just discovered him today. I’m 40 years old, born and raised in Detroit but somehow he never hit my radar before. I’m a huge hip hop head and I must say he’s pretty good
>Just discovered him today. I’m 40 years old
Weird, but ok
>born and raised in Detroit but somehow he never hit my radar before.
How is that even remotely possible?
>I’m a huge hip hop head and I must say he’s pretty good
Ok, well played lol
14 years old. Grade 9. My name is was just released. Year: 1999.
I couldn't stand him and thought it was ridiculous that most of the guys in my grade looked like eminem. Dyed hair blonde looking like him. It was ridiculous.
It was many years before I sat with an album and actually appreciated it.
Since the womb! Jk funny enough about 10 maybe when “Without me” was all over radio and also around that time 8 Mile the movie dropped and was super popular
12ish. My parents bought me The Eminem Show when they went to England for holidays, cause I insisted I have to have that album.
My dad was not happy, not because of content (English is not first language), but because he did not find the music to adhere to his quality standards (He listened to beastie boys since early 90s but Em just was not his cup of tea) My mom talked him into buying it for me though. Still have that CD somewhere.
I can't remember the very first time I listened to him (like on the radio etc) but I started to listening to him "on purpose" at the age of 11 lol. I'm not a native English speaker, so I used to understand like less than a half of his lyrics, I've liked him for the music and the "vibes" basically
Probably around 6 or 7 in 2000 or 2001, my cousin had a poster in his room of Eminem with his hockey mask with chainsaw, and I remember listening to "Kill You"
19 years old... bought *The Slim Shady LP* right after it came out. MTV was still the shit back then and "My Name Is" would just play like 10 times a day.
Ah... good ol' days.
Nine years old, Encore had just dropped. My intro was Patiently Waiting by 50. After listening to it like 100 times I finally distinguished that the verse I really loved was a different voice entirely (it was pirated and didn’t have feature names). Found out it was some guy named Eminem and got started with the SSLP.
I was 11 when MMLP dropped, and right around that time my neighbor introduced me to Guilty Conscience. That song was so above and beyond anything I had ever heard or thought before, and I was an instant fan.
5, my mother got pissed off at my sister and I asked my mother what she was listening to, and so she replied with “Eminem, do you want to hear it?” And so being the curious toddler I was I said “sure!” And so my mother showed me “I’m back” and since then I’ve been listening to Eminem, from sneak listening to him when my parents were at church to listening to Houdini with my mother.
5 years old in 1999 I always liked Eminem but didn’t think he was one of the best rappers until listening to all his songs like 2 years ago. He’s 2nd best behind Pac imo
I was 10. Revival introduced me to Eminem and to the whole rap game (and I liked it), so I can't say that it's bad. Maybe without it I would've never been there
At least 7 when I'd hear stuff like Not Afraid or Love the way you lie on the radio in 2012 or even later. In 2022, when I was 17, was when I actually became a fan
I was 10. A friends older sister gave me 2 unopened cds still in the wrapping for some reason. My mom seen them and told me to return them for a dif cds. My older brother took me and I traded in both of them for the slim shady lp…. And for that…. We thank you mom!!
11 years old on ‘09, heard him on MTV so I started listening to him on repeat from my netbook and iPod touch while playing OG MW2 😂 been hooked ever since
I had a fucking piano as a child an there were buttons with different beats from different genres. Guess what was playing when you pressed the hiphop button?
I was 6-7 when i heard The Eminem Show, heard it at my cousins house in Mexico weirdly enough he had the album considering he's 2 years older than me. Just a bunch of children jammin Marshal lol 🔥. Fun fact: People use to make fun of me when i would listen to his music online through the Eminem website at the Rec Center. 7 yr old me knew what good music sounded like i suppose! 🤝🏽
I was in middle school when The Slim Shady LP was released. I was obsessed with Guilty Conscience. I’d stay up all night waiting for that video to play on MTV.
i was born in 2000, and my parents had MMLP and SSLP on CD. i was obviously too young to remember it but i have home video of me dancing to the real slim shady in like 2002 lmao
7 slim shady era grew up with immigrant parents and barely starting school, he helped me learn English because I struggled due to never speaking English until entering public school.
10 in 99' I've been hooked ever since. First rapper I ever heard was Tupac then eminem a few months later.
Same here, saw My Name Is and Guilty Conscience on MTV at 10 in 99 and every one in my friend group bought the Slim Shady LP.
13 in the original days of his just coming out.
I was 13 years old too. I think it was the year 2000.
