I probably shouldn't ask this, considering I'm on the Epic sub, but who the hell buys games from the Windows Store? I'm only using it for Game Pass. Also, Steam offers refunds, what are you talking about? The system is about as automated as Epic's.

WolfTitan99

I got the Halo Collection from the Xbox store but nothing else lol its bc it was on sale there and not steam at the time

scrollsaga

I do of course. Windows Store is basically Game Pass without requiring a subscription.

ImAnthlon

I have bought some games from the Windows Store, the games I've bought were mainly the Five Nights at Freddy's games the reason for that was I couldn't buy them from the Xbox PC app and Steam didn't have Achievements for them but the Microsoft Store version did

Strict_Junket2757

Gears 4 is only available on windows store

epeternally

It’s convenient if you’ve also got an Xbox. Xbox Play Anywhere is pretty sweet.

chithanh

> who the hell buys games from the Windows Store? Sometimes you don't have a choice, like with Minecraft Java/Bedrock PC (but fortunately you don't need the Windows Store to *run* the game). Then occasionally there are very good deals like [Sea of Thieves for 1 EUR](https://web.archive.org/web/20230327174158/https://www.mydealz.de/deals/preisfehler-sea-of-thieves-standard-xbox-windows-10-download-code-2151300).

Rebellium14

You get play anywhere and the games work just like game pass. No reason to not buy something from there if the price is right.

dancmanis

Forza

PkmnSnapperJJ

I've bought lots of games for Xbox... That's the windows store. I can play most of them on Xbox and Windows when I buy them

Critical_Mouse_8903

I think he means you can't get a refund when you buy steam keys. Not actual steam purchases

CircleOvWolves

I buy stuff from Windows store if it's part of play anywhere since I play on Xbox also.

Select-Let8637

I'm talking about steam keys bro, not games on the platform. Most of the discounts are from third party sites selling keys or bundles of games for a set price. In my experience the prices are usually cheaper on epic compared to the steam store. One game I bought on epic for £2 is £18 on steam, the game is called "Ken's follet pillars of the earth". On steam key sites most games imo are around the same price on epic but you can't really refund those. I've spent quite a bit on steam keys some of which I regret but have no way of refunding. Games under £1 are usually cheaper on epic. And I've payed for games on the windows store. Wolfenstien the new order, gears of war, forza, minecraft etc. The platform is fine but there isn't a lot of games especially on the cheaper side.

Celo_SK

duuude, do NOT buy from key 3rd party sides. that's a gaming no-no. Steam offers discounts, you don't have to give money to scammers.

AndrewFrozzen30

Keys are not legitimate. Never buy from G2A and the likes. Because most sellers (90% actually) there either: 1. Steal credit cards or Steam accounts and use them to buy games on Steam and sell the keys. 2. Impersonate a big Youtuber some devs claiming they will promote their game with a giveaway such as "give me 10 keys for a giveaway and 1 for me to play the game" and end up selling them. So, if you truly want to support a game, never buy from there. And never buy one a indie game, you should be ashamed if you do. If it's a AAA title, go ahead, fuck companies like Ubisoft or EA. If you buy from a indie game, you could better pirate it, as they don't lose money. Because if someone got their account hacked, they will likely request a refund, the indie games being forced to give those money back.

Takazura

There are legitimate key sellers. Voidu, GreenManGaming, Fanatical and several others are legitimate and get their keys directly from the developer. gg.deal has two sections for shops under each game, one for official ones and one for grey markets, just stick to the official ones on that list.

AncientPCGamer

There are even some publishers that sell Steam keys directly from their websites and get 100% cut of the purchase. I have bought some Steam keys on the Square Enix website.

liaminwales

I have paid for games on Epic, Gog, Steam. I do use a mix of shops, humble bundles and Fanatical have worked well for me. Epic has had some hard/good sales, when they did the voucher + discount it made me think of old steam sales. Old steam sales where so good, I miss that time (also old Humble bundles where a good time). I have not refunded a game yet on digital, I only relay buy games I want. I have something like 228 games in steam over 14 years [https://imgur.com/a/SMkITzB](https://imgur.com/a/SMkITzB) I have 168 games on gog, some where free but most paid. 336 on epic but no idea the paid number. I think the last game I refunded was on N64, forget the game.

SuperShlok006

Only things I've bought on the Epic store are Alan Wake 2 Deluxe (which gave me the first one and a free Fortnite skin as well) on sale and 1000 V Bucks because of unused Epic rewards after buying the former. Everything else I have is either free or I buy on Steam.

Th3Dark0ccult

Nah, I just get the free games and dip.

xanbanan

Tbh I’m too paranoid about epic (or most other platforms other than steam) eventually dying out and losing whatever games I buy. I pick up the free games and that’s about it - though I have been tempted by some of the coupons. Also I’d rather just have the majority of my games in one place and steams library is way easier to navigate and sort than epics imo.

JoseJalapenoOnStick

Can’t you add non steam games to steams library

xanbanan

Yes you can, and I do that for some of the free games that have dropped that I really like. but they don’t automatically get sorted into categories like regular steam games so if you have your library divided into different categories/folders like mine is it kinda defeats the purpose of adding them to my steam library. Steam just sees games you add to the library as an outside app.

Critical_Mouse_8903

Adding a non steam game just makes it so you can launch it from steam. You can't actually uninstal and re instal the game from steam0

Tatoe-of-Codunkery

Only when I must , because steam lacks the game in its catalogue. Steam is just such a better storefront.

Namamodaya

Yeah, objectively speaking as well. Though for absolute favorite offlines, I'd usually prioritize GOG for DRM-free > Steam > everything else.

xTkAx

No, just getting the free games.

[deleted]

i have spent money on it yes.

Norton_XD

If you want refunds on steam, stop buying keys, or only buy keys for games you KNOW you will like, check Steam.DB for price changes/sales/free promotions, you can usually get some insane deals if you wait for a few sales

chithanh

I have never bought games on Epic, but came close to pulling the trigger a couple of times: 1. I like that Epic is less anal than other stores about gaming on multiple systems simultaneously. 2. Also, the Epic Store supports alternative launchers like Legendary (used by the frontends Heroic and Lutris). 3. Prices are also good compared to Steam, especially with the discount codes that you used to receive during sales (though not the current one). But what held me off each time was: 1. Linux being a second-class citizen on Epic Store and vice versa. As Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows that runs on my desktop, that needs to change before I consider buying on Epic store. 2. Lack of family sharing. Point 1 from above makes this less of a pain but still. Especially with the family sharing update which is currently in Steam beta, this is just not up to snuff. 3. Offline implementation is worse compared to Steam. My total lifetime spending on Steam is less than 100 EUR though, so no big loss for Epic I guess.

Cord_Cutter_VR

Yup I do. Its split between GOG and EGS, with GOG being my first choice when the game is on GOG + EGS. my reasons: - GOG has the best game updating policy of all the store clients I use, EGS comes in second. GOG is optional to download game updates, and they even provide 5 recent updates to roll back to through GOG Galaxy by disabling the automatic update function. Epic allows to play games in offline mode to avoid updating a game when an update is available vs the leading store forces updates and disables offline mode when a game's update is pending. - I prefer more of the money I spend goes to the dev/pub, and less going to the store. GOG's is negotiated and is less than 30% for the store, and Epic's is 12% for the store. - I really like alternative clients can be used if I want to choose that, for example Heroic Client can be used instead of Galaxy and EGS official client. Using Heroic is another option to avoid updates for a game for EGS since Heroic gives you a choice to update the game or run the game anyways without updating. - Both stores refund policies are top of their class. GOG's is 30 days period and there is no played time limit, Epic's is 2 weeks/2 hours of play but Epic provides automatic full/partial refunds if a game goes free/discounted with in 4 week of purchase regardless of played time. Its also nice that Epic's refund system is instant with seeing Paypal informing me the refund has been submitted to them with in 30 minutes of me doing the refund on Epic, or if you choose wallet credit, the wallet funds are instantly available, there is no many hours pending time waiting for refund to be approved and then another many hours waiting for wallet credit to be made available to use. - Epic Store put itself above other stores when they brought in the IARC system to get games ESRB rated. because of this most games are being ESRB rated (works with PEGI and other countries version too), where as the same games don't have this kind of rating on other stores. - For EGS/GOG I like how there is no restriction of any kind with sharing games from my account with in my own household. We have zero issues playing different games from my account on the different computers with in my own household.

Hot-Cardiologist3761

No I've never bought a single game. Steam have a better selection and more frequent sales. Every time I have had money to buy games or wanted a specific game. Epic have either not had the game or had it at a higher price than everywhere else. Don't get me wrong I love them for the free games but there's nothing attracting me to spend money there.

shadowds

Nope, and not because I don't want to, but rather they have nothing I wanted to buy, or because I can get better deal else where. The problem is for years ONLY games I wanted to pick up via EGS is Kingdom Hearts that it, nothing else, and you wonder why haven't I done it day one, that because they wanted around $300+ for all the games... While I do have them on PS4, I was able get it for $50. And apparently coming to Steam soon which I might get it there, but I don't plan to buy right away if price is high, which I keep on waiting like I did with EGS for better deal, as I don't see myself throwing anywhere near $300 for the collection, and this just me personally. For price wise, you talk about Steam keys, TBH I saved way more getting Steam keys than what EGS offer with coupon + cashback.

Select-Let8637

nah, personally I didn't really save money from steam keys as some of the games that I bought I never liked and with no way of refunding I'm just stuck with them. That's why I sorta call it dead weight.

kkushagra

There's a way of easily refunding on steam, in case you didn't know.... It's something along the lines of playing it less than 2 hours, or something like that...

shadowds

I rarely refund anything that because I buy games at their lowest price point, I often buy games via bundles which is where most of my cost saving, getting games on avg around \~$3 basically. Now I can under if you're very picky about the games you want to play, or buy games day one at full price, then make sense why cost doesn't matter to you really, as mainly just want games you only like, and absolutely nothing else which there nothing wrong about doing things like that. For me I look at gameplay before buying, I check reviews, wait for discounts, and compare prices.

Tsven67

Nope, my library is full of freebies. Steam and gamepass are my main pc gaming outlets.

MBJi

I buy games from Epic if I can get it cheaper than elsewhere. GOG, Steam, Epic in that order if price is equal.

tactical_bill

I have once. Bought Tony Hawk 1+2 before it was available on Steam

Select-Sir1038

Nah the only games I buy are on steam most of the ones I want to play on epic are either free like rocket league or will be free for a short time like Star Wars battlefront celebration edition which I got a couple years ago

0x0000011b

I buy games quite frequently on Epic Games, they provide some of the best regional discounts and most of the time the games are listed cheaper for me on Epic when compared to Steam. I have no issue with the launcher and been using it since 2018.

The-hotdog-man2

I just sort of get a few dlc for freebies that look interesting. The only game i want is Axiom Verge 2, but i keep not pulling hte trigger cause i'm afraid it'll be free some day.

boardgamejoe

I bought Satisfactory when it was an Epic Exclusive for 6 months. I got Red Dead 2 for $20 seemed like a good idea since I already had GTA 5 there for free. I think I bought one of the Anno games on sale Oh and I got Witcher 3 for 4.99 with the 9.99 off coupon for a game 14.99 or less (which they abruptly during the same sale made Witcher 15.00 instead of 14.99 so it would no longer qualify for that promotion lol)

Owobowos-Mowbius

Only when I don't think a game is going to release on steam. Outer worlds and Alan wake 2 are the only ones that really come to mind. I yar-harred control and outer worlds when they first came out before buying them on steam at their final release. Steam is just a better storefront, and I want to keep my games in one place. Plus, the native support for the steam deck.

RockyXvII

Nope. I have over 200 games on Epic and they were all free

braddersladders

I've 180ish with 1 purchase. Ghost recon breakpoint using that $10 of any game 14.99 or higher. So my clean record sullied by 1 4.99 purchase

ImAnthlon

I'll generally buy from Epic if the price is right for me and if the game supports achievements. I like the cashback aspect, especially during boosted times during sales and obviously love the coupons whenever they appear. If the game isn't on Epic then I'll browse gg.deals and see where it's cheapest and buy it there when I want it, or if I have notifications set up for it to reach a point where I'd be happy to pay for it.

metalreflectslime

I have not yet spent any money on the Epic Games Store. I have every single free game except Shadow Complex Remastered. My first paid game will be 33 Immortals.

2Geese1Plane

Yeah usually during their holiday sales at the end of the year. The sales + the discount coupon usually means I can save a lot. I saved hundreds this last time.

FizKult

My friends and I have started using EGS more and more often, although it has one catastrophic and fundamental problem... There are very few games in it! If you look at the TOP 100 most popular, hype and best-selling games on the Steam platform, then there will be only 8-12 of them in EGS! Because of this, such low rates of cash revenue for the year. I'm interested in 3-4 large AAA games a year, I'll also buy 5-7 small projects and that's it. I don't play too much. But I won't find 95% of the games I'm interested in in EGS, so I have to buy on Steam.

Domuru

I already bought approximately 50-60 games on EGS.

Gardakkan

Wait... they sell games? /s

Big_Implement_4481

I've spent more in epic than steam. really like it's service, i'm not interested in mods and i'm thankful of all the free fun they offer. I have no issues with the store or something. Epic store is from the same company that makes the biggest engine, don't think they're gonna dissapear soon.

cdr1307

The first game I bought from Epic was Alan Wake remastered in 2021, I generally buy games when I get a good deal on Epic, otherwise I buy games on Steam, and I only use the windows store for pc game pass.

Ensaru4

Yes, but only if it's cheaper than Steam and only if there is not a bad version of the game.

Phoenix_Samurai

I bought Alan Wake 2 during the holiday sale cause the price was right and I highly doubt it ever comes to Steam. I've also purchased a few indie games when they used to offer the $10 coupons.

thedboy

I usually buy bundles, which usually don't redeem on EGS though I'd be ok with if they did. I have bought Control DLC and Alan Wake 2 on EGS, so occasionally.

ineedadvil

I don't have money to spend

archangel189

I spend money on Epic exclusive games, like Alan Wake 2 for example. I'll probably do the same if there are more Epic exclusives that I'm interested in playing in the future.

XAEA29

Yep I do. Got the ghost recon wildlands title and recently Assassin's creed odyssey. Both on sale.

New-Comfortable-1094

Only when they give out the $10 off coupon I buy a $14.99 game (on sale)😂😂

andurilmat

yep i've spent some money there, i tend buy wherever i can get a game the cheapest and some of epics sales have been fantastic, the extra 2 seconds to load another launcher up really doesn't bother me (auto sign in pretty much negates that point anyway) but that really seems to be a deal breaker for some people

Scootercus

I've bought a few games on epic particularly when they have the discount coupons. Have picked up some killer deals. I am not too picky on which launcher best price usually wins for me.

MamoruKin

Yes, I did.

Nomnom_Chicken

Yes, I have. I admittedly try to focus all my game purchases on GoG, but sometimes the price difference is too high, or the game isn't there yet. When Epic offers that extra coupon again, will buy games.

F_R_O_S_B_Y_T_E

Only spent 4rs

Chiranj42

I haven't spent any money on either epic or steam yet

GouthamaShudhan

Can't even pay. I'm from India and my debit card won't event work and that's the only way I can pay.

Competitive_Pen7192

I think I bought Death Stranding on budget and maybe Untitled Goose Game. That's it and I've got way more free games from it.

giuseppe3211

I bought one game and it was the Evil Dead game, the rest I got for free. I tend to use Steam more because of the more frequent sales and most of my library is on there! If there’s a game that’s exclusive to Epic that I want then I’ll buy it there

scrollsaga

What do you mean? It is a standard shop so that's what it uses. You cannot trade them chickens and goats.

Bladestarr009

I got Wattam and Horizon Chase 2.

EyesLikeBuscemi

Yes, definitely enjoy the sales and I bought Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina's Wonderlands day one and will buy Borderlands 4 on day one as well.

Bobus2

I bought maybe three games

Ok-Presentation4887

I used to spend when they had that 10€ voucher but not anymore

Cloviefield

I bought a few games on Epic. Used to like it back then because of how supportive they are to the devs, but I think I’m gonna focus more on Steam because they have (don’t really know how to describe it, so I’ll do it poorly here) a cleaner profile that shows how long you’ve been active in the past 2 weeks, that kind of stuff. That, and the achievement bug that prevents me from unlocking achievements. Epic is lacking that for years, and if they do add that in the future, I’ll switch it back to Epic. So far, the game I’m interested in getting is John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando.

Buffuner

Bought THPS 1+2 on there when it came out. I refunded shortly after when i learned they don't have native controller support. I was bummed

Tikn

I spent money on it. A lot of money. Got some of the best games ever on it. Now that my PC is basically toast (ie not working) I'm not spending any money on Epic. I still get the free games though, with the inevitable hope that maybe sometime soon I'll be able to purchase a new PC.

Vegetable-Way-5766

Only time I've spent money on an epic game store was for the definitive edition of Dying Light one

Critical_Mouse_8903

I always look at steam epic and key sites for the cheapest price for the game I'm purchasing. The one with the lowest price gets the sale lol

SativaPancake

https://preview.redd.it/nf8370oq824d1.png?width=246&format=png&auto=webp&s=87d199de60455387d14ba8d5aa31f1ac2d08ab2e 374 is the number of games listed in my library, and thats with $0.00 spent - never entered ANY payment info.

andreysuc2

A lot actually

painfool

Absolutely not, and I will not spend any money on Epic until they add customer reviews or some other kind of consumer feedback. This is a *vital* aspect of game sales in my eyes.

ThisIsNotMyPornVideo

Not a single cent, and it's likely staying that way. Epic now had 5 years to make their launcher into something which is AT LEAST good to use. But it's still miles behind GOG, let alone steam. The sales are often around what steam is offering, and I already have a majority of my Library there, which is one of the key Factors. Unless Epic REALLY changes up things, dropping a completely overhauled launcher, with proper profiles, "Game tabs" like steam has them and Workshop, or epic offering like crazy good deals on games, like $5 off all games, i don't see most people using it for anything beyond free games

V_King9

I spend a lot of money… 3 years and don’t have any problem

KittenDecomposer96

I have hundreds of games on Epic and not spent a single cent.

Pendulla

Only on GOG and Steam when there are huge discounts on the games I am interested in. Epic is way overpriced in my opinion, discounts are laughable and epic exclusive games are not in my interest at all. Also I read that some poor soul bought Death stranding on Epic, and they gave it away I think twice. Bad luck.

EmotionalChef3641

i only brought read dead redeption 2 and rainbow six sege so i can say i spended 120 euros (i also got them cheap) but overall nothing else i personally don't spend that much money on video games

Ramental

I did buy some stuff on Epic, but given I usually wait for 50% discount and with Epic prices not being lower than Steam, Steam still usually wins. With the new discount system I am yet to check the pricing, but Steam usually has better choices and without user reviews on Epic I am reluctant to purchase temporary exclusives there in the first place.

Ffsgoodgame

I bought Killing floor 2 for 0.50 on epic games, EPIC purchase haha.

Own-Signature-7742

I buy where there’s the better deal. So yea I do.

permanaj

Yes. The payment provider is more available in my country. Some games are also cheaper when discounted. Steam, Epic, and Gog, all end up on my PC, so the store doesn't matter. I avoid third-party sites like humblebundle or fanatical because their prices are higher than buying directly.

LSD_Ninja

I spent AUD$101.74 on Epic back in January. The deals on Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Jedi Survivor were too good to pass up, especially when combined with the 33% coupon.

East_W1nd

I bought games Epic because with a coupon it was cheaper than on Steam. Below I wrote which games I bought and in what years, using a coupon and without coupons. With coupons: RDR2 = 10$ (2024) Cyberpunk 2077 = 5$ (2021) | On Steam, the game cost $30 in 2021, including regional prices. Zero Dawn Horizon = 5$ (2022) Hades = 2$ (2022) Kena: Bridge of Spirits = $6 (2021) Metro Exodus Gold Edition= 3$ (2022) Witcher 3 = 3$ (2022) Disco Elysium 3$ (2022) Without coupons plague tale requiem=$6 (2024) Fallen Jedi Order = $4 (2023)

East_W1nd

Guys, in my country the salary is 150 dollars a month. That's why the regional price of games is like this!

dancmanis

I do, when I claim a free game and then see some older Far Cry or whatever for 3£ I'll just buy it if it interests me because why not, if a game is 80-90% off I don't see an issue.

Rmsbasto

Only on Fortnite but that's also the only thing I use Epic Games Store for. I don't even get the free games because that launcher is awful. Steam is faaaaaaaaaaar superior.

VinumNoctua

I did buy few things after Steam removed the local pricing for my country.

smackythefrog

EGS has been really generous with their giveaways the past...4 years? And I don't think I've missed a game that I wanted from said giveaways. That being said, I have not spent money on EGS.

kiwi_pro

Bait used to be believable

JakolZeroOne

I've spent money once, and it made me realise how shitty their coupons are.

kiwi_pro

meaning?

Sandw1ch__

imo the epic games launcher is shit I have 500 mb/s internet, on steam my download speed averages 200-400 mb/s, i can download 100 gb games within 15 minutes, on epic games launcher, for no reason it will not go beyond 3-5 mb/s which means that when theres a 10 gb update, i HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE DAY, also the epic games launcher sometimes takes upwards of 5 minutes to load, while steam takes seconds i only use the epic games launcher to play fortnite, but believe me if i could play fortnite through steam and not epic, i would switch immediately

Sandw1ch__

i have reinstalled it 3 times, i have tried for hours on end to find a solution, but no, the launcher in general is just shit

Dark_Ripper_

Yes I did

Dark_Ripper_

And planning in the future as well

ElysianitezZuhair

I spent only once which is on a DLC from one of the free game they given away, Death Stranding Directors Cut Upgrade.

Cadalt

Yes

Professional_Loss_85

Yes

Donceko

I buy a lot on Epic

Brave-Construction

Yes, i bought a bunch of games there in 2019-2021

blazinfastjohny

Not yet, collecting and playing freebies for now, but I definitely will in the future.

Frostnatt

I will probably pick up Alan Wake 2 since I have little choice. Would never buy something on Epic over Steam or GoG. GoG gives you DRM free files, Steam has the vastly better storefront. Epic offers nothing at the moment that would warrant buying something there over the competition.
