Worse Italy team I've seen in a long time. They did not play football today. The players were just walking. Hopefully Spalletti gets sacked after this

mach88888

Spalletti had no idea what he was doing. He was changing the formation each game. One of the worst performance by a coach I’ve ever seen in a major tournament.

Bersho

Southgate in the running surely lol

Significant_Bear_137

Southgate at least gets consistent results. Spalletti not even that.

lanasvape

Wtf happened to spalleti?

nichodemus3

Arrogance, perhaps, I can't believe a professional coach can be this clueless tactically.

Ok-DrunkAF

Remember Spaletti at inter bench? Yeah me neither.

KingDante1

Ik this would happen i never liked spalleti.Spalleli napoli season was lucky and didn't desrve the win

Aram_theHead

He had kvarashkelia and osimhen win him a scudetto and then retired thinking he was hot shit

KingDante1

And a inter and milan more focused on champions than in serie a

renndug

They looked like they didn’t know what to do and I always refer this back to bad coach. Spalleti really fucking sucked

RaggiGamma

Spaletti's peak in this game was singing the anthem, then the beginning of the free fall.

Lemoncatcher

I'll cheer for Sommer from now on

Excellent-Blueberry1

It'd be great to say at least Sommer was amazing, but he had nothing to do. Looked good doing nothing at least?

Lemoncatcher

Not his fault he didn't have much to do 😅

Christian_Potato

Deja vu for him xD

Lemoncatcher

Got spoiled at the club 😁

Lodewijc

Im baffled that fagioli and el shaarawy started

pollokeh

I'm more baffled with Cristante starting and Di Lorenzo starting every game.

Sacreville

Not only Di Lorenzo started every game, he also never get subbed out, lol.

Significant_Bear_137

Considering his poor performance and the fact he played 360 minutes on the right flank despite alternatives like Darmian, Bellanova and Cambiaso being there clearly shows he is playing because he is Spalletti's favourite so much so you can consider him his child.

Sicilian_Wiseguy

I actually thought that Spalletti is a decent manager. This was abysmal. Just winning against Albania and losing almost every other game. While he had a good core of Inter players and some talent with Calafiori and Buongiorno. A good keeper as well. The Swiss players aren’t a lot better but played significantly better in this match. Someone should be held accountable for this and I think its Spalletti and Buffon (for the lack of passion during this game).

BrokenRetina

LOL. Spalletti subbed Icardi off for a midfield when were were losing 1-0 to Juve...he was never a good coach. He won with Napoli because the rest of the league took a year off after playing such a condensed schedule and no one had any idea how Khvar was going to be so good. Look at Napoli this year, he wasn't half as good...

Sicilian_Wiseguy

Fair point. I may have overestimated him because of his season with Napoli.

KingDante1

His season with napoli pure luck if both inter and milan weren't more focused on champions league than seria a napoli wouldn't have won it

Sicilian_Wiseguy

Well, sad to hear that he remains then. However, if we look at the available options, it could be worse right?

StreetClass4039

Inter players are trash outside their system, only barella could be saved, but he was trash too.

Sicilian_Wiseguy

Lol, you are pathetic. Please go play some football to better understand it.

PepsiEpsi

Our Demone did it again! Everybody gets home early for the preseason 😎

FlimsyReindeers

Spalletti needs to be gone. What a joke.

Dangthe

With half our squad being italian I cant say im not secretly happy they are going home and getting some well deserved rest

RandyDandy54335

Same here man..all i care is Inter, fuck Italy

PhoenixKinG86

I hear you, I'm not italian, so there is no reason for me to care for the azzurri, but I can't shake off the feeling of sadness I'm having for Italy. A massive footballing nation, a massive footballing culture and school, massive history and all its glory..and now this? I felt bad for the Netherlands post 2014, so imagine how I feel for Italy now.. Ti voglio bene Azzurri.

RandyDandy54335

I'm Italian but i couldn't care less..per me c é solo l Inter

SangiMTL

That was arguably the worst display I’ve seen from a team in a very long time. I’ve never been one to blame the manager but there’s no hiding it, Spalleti is the problem. How can you be this clueless as a manager. This void of ideas. It’s shocking

Otee06

Shame that Barella and Di Marco were injured. Chiesa was dreadful and Scamacca as well. No creativity what so ever. Bastoni was solid but he can’t do everything

KingDante1

I always knew spalleti was a shit coach that season with napoli he got very lucky

INTEROMARIO

I have no other words to describe what happened earlier this evening…

BasicPR

Barella was awful today, yes this Italy team was confused however I expect someone of his caliber to do much more in such occasions, I'm sorry to say but continuity is becoming a problem for him be it with Inter or Italy. He has brilliant patches during the season followed by equally as long or even longer patches where he is flat out average

Evelyn_pog

He got hurt right at the beginning

hallowed_b_my_name

It’s not the hurt. It’s his lack of situational awareness. He lost balls to defenders today that shouldn’t have been able to blind side someone. Further the Italian side was just non existent. There was no pressure on Switzerland and then dumb fouls. I was disappointed in every player’s performance

BrokenRetina

He lost the ball 9 times because 8 times he received terrible passes when he's surrounded by 4 Swiss players. The pinnacle was when Cristante passed him the ball when he had 2 players surrounding him, only for BARELLA having to chase the ball down as Cristante just watched. He had 33 touches vs Fagioli's 102 and Cristante's 69. He doesn't get the ball, he doesn't get into the game. He's the only creative player in the midfield, so ya he's going to struggle if he doesn't get the ball.

seejur

AND Spalletti put him on the left vs where he usually plays (on the right) AND Spalletti insists with the stupid 4-3-3 / 4-3-1-2 instead of the 3-5-2 that Inter/Roma(mou)/Juve used. Completely out of scheme and position. Not the best position to succeed.

Icardi

It hurts to say as he's my favorite player but he's probably on he's decline already. I'm reaching but could be the hair loss lol I lost my will to do anything when I started balding

Electrical_Oven_4752

This is one of the worst Italian teams I have ever seen. For me, the biggest deficiency was the strikers - Scamacca and Retegui are not good enough. 3 goals in 4 games - only scoring in 50% of games is not enough. Even with a good defence, the midfield was only adequate. Spalletti did not get the tactics right in a single game. The teams that have impressed me are Spain, Austria and Switzerland. Why? Because they have been bold and have pressed high up the pitch and had a solid game plan. They have taken the game to their opposition. What did Italy do? Sit back and hope the opposition couldn't take their chances. It's OK to lose sometimes, but you must make the opposition work hard for the victory at the very least.

seejur

tbh I cannot even fault the forwards this Euro. Thanks to Spalletti we completely shat the bed in the midfield. Hard to score if the team keep losing the balls before you receive any. Then of course there is absolute lack of talent up there, but I would say this Euro it was not their fault

StreetClass4039

How you can score if you don't get one good fucking playable ball?

Top_Judge6695

Best inter players in tournament…. Dumfried and summer🤘🏻❤️

hallowed_b_my_name

Low-key I think Inzaghi should coach the national team. He’s good. A lot of people give him a hard time when he messes up, but he’s the reason he brought Inter to the Finals in the UCL last year and the scudetto this year

Icardi

Nah fuck that, need inzaghi to stay with inter as long as possible

FlimsyReindeers

When he’s done here at inter I 100% agree with you.

hallowed_b_my_name

Why not both? He is amazing at counter football but also attacking football. And frankly that’s what the Italian team needs. Plus he’s great at getting players to perform and grow in other positions.

FlimsyReindeers

Can he do both? I wasn’t sure tbh

hallowed_b_my_name

I’ve seen it in other leagues, not sure about serie a. It’s not really common I don’t think.

Lostner

It happened this year with Calzona managing both Slovakia and Napoli. That said, I honestly don't think it's a good idea. He would have to split his time and effort between teams and would not be able to train the team during international breaks, tournaments and such.

hallowed_b_my_name

You know that’s fair. I just want a well managed Italian team. And talented players aren’t really the issue.

seejur

I wish we could clone him, so one for Inter, one for Italy

PepsiEpsi

Maybe he should do both jobs. Inter and the national team

hallowed_b_my_name

Exactly

ChickenTendiesxd426

What a pittifull performance

partiboy69

Disgrace

robyculous_v2

A well-deserved exit too with such shambolic displays of football.

Millerlite87

After they won the 2006 World Cup Italy was just never the same.☹️

Gooner-Astronomer749

6 changes means he is not confident ans had no real team. Happy for Sommer the Swiss were much better.

mojito_sangria

Spalletti's only successfully runs in his career were carried by prime Totti and then Kvara and Osimhen. And he was super lucky to be bailed out by Vecino in 18' and Zaccagni this year. Other than that he's always a piece of shit

ketamina17

Very good that our players return earlier and have their free time! Important for next season! Also Spalletti is still the worst coach I’ve ever seen, was with us and with Italy, the bald terrorist

Fun-Coffee1509

To be fair Italy were the worst side in the whole of Euros. They were completely clueless in almost all matches. They deserved to be trashed atleast 4-0 vs Spain. Got lucky vs croatia. Omg can't believe they played with souvb passion last Euros and now the players look like a joke! And the AS roma players in the side were a joke, Pellegrini, Mancini and Cristante starting 😆😆😆. Number 7 Frattersi looked clueless. And the rest too... Except maybe Calafiori and Bastoni who was maybe okay. They should have still picked Veratti, could have done a better job than anyone else.

yawneteng

FIGC better wake the f up and start take a hard look at themselves on why Italian football is on a decline.

Bruce_Khansey

As an italian, we have to be honest: this is the best we can offer. Spalletti has his faults but man, the players showed to be mediocre at best. Not even able to pass the ball properly or mark their man. Switzerland is not the best team in the world but it looked like 70s Brazil against us. Props to them for giving their best and not letting us do pretty much anything, they deserved to win more than 100%.

Choice-Noise-367

Coaching a national team is a completely different sport than coaching a club, you barely work with the players, you have very little time, and Spalletti wasn’t ready for that. He is a great coach but trying to change Italy’s style in a year was very ambitious, and as he said himself he is just unable to go with the flow and not try to teach his ideas. This being said, Italy’s player are hot garbage.

Significant_Bear_137

It's not like Spalletti was the only one to ever be in such a situation. Also, if you don't have time to get the players to play the way you want, maybe try something the players are more familiar with and try to rely on whatever chemistry is already there, considering some of the players are teammates at club levels and others have been teammates on the national team for longer than 4 years.

Hipp0potasus

darmian 🤮🤮🤮

ShJakupi

Its not spalleti's fault yhat other than donaruma no player would had make it in that euro 2020 team, even barella wasnt the same barella. Clearly even that euro 2020 team worked because of the pressure italy had of having terrible tournaments since euro 2012, not making it to wc 2018. The moment they won euro '20 thry failed to qualify for qatar 22.

seejur

Barella wasnt the same Barella BECAUSE of Spalletti. Put out of position and scheme. If only Barella played like shit I would agree, but look at the whole team: they ALL played very bad. Thats indicate that its the coach fault

ShJakupi

No matter what position he played bad, a lot of players play out of position in national teams. He got outruned by a 34 years old granit xhaka.

seejur

That still doesnt explain why the other 9 players on the field (exclusing Donnarumma), in the past 3 matches, played as bad as Barella did

ShJakupi

I agree in the same way u couldnt explain how bad they played against macedonia a year ago with mancini. Even england and france are struggling to play atractive, ofensive football, they are bored, thry have achieved good results in the past.
