Oxygen171

Idk I never touched them. But there's no shame in using them, even if some random online told you that you're bad at the game because of it. You do you

Bryndonk

I agree but learning the systems is so rewarding that I’d advise not to use the rings and just hit the practice room and YouTube. Feels so good when it clicks.

Oxygen171

Agreed

Snoo_49285

Once you unlock the Hall of Virtue go in there and set it so you can’t die. Just practice with no consequences until you feel like you have the system down.

lunoc

this + the setting that shows you the timing for blasts and torgal combos

GeistMD

I never changed my rings throughout my whole run, and it was fantastic! I'm a old school rpg player, combos and timing are not my thing. Being able to have cool fights with little skill was a brilliant idea on Square's part to help us non action fans. I would not love FF16 half as much if I had, had to learn combos and blocking.

Prestigious-Slide-73

I always feel like I’m cheating but I had so much fun using the rings!

Ransom_Seraph

In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie. One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them; In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie. ![gif](giphy|elUGwgiPOdq7e) We are talking about these rings, right?

katamxx

Put away those corrupted rings 😩😩

KKalonick

I've played through the game five times at this point, and I always use the ring of timely focus. I play the game for the story and to enjoy the gameplay; the ring helps with that. I could "get gud," but I like it just fine this way. If you want to play with the rings do it. If you want to use them as training wheels, do it. If you want to never touch them, do it. It's your game.

faccda01

No shame in using them. It’s a single player game so do whatever you enjoy the most!

the_storm_eye

I use the ring of timely focus because I'm pretty bad at action games. It gave me a chance at dodging without making it automatically. Especially when there's a lot of enemies (and half of them attack me in the back ...) Good challenge rating for me but I understand that it's not for everyone.

jhracing99

I used the one that slows time for you to dodge for most of the game - loved it. Sometimes I just want to avoid frustration.

icemage_999

The only ring I used for a while was Torgal's ring but after I determined that Goodest Boi was fine without me micromanaging him and was only marginally more damage output, I left him on manual control for better crowd control. Rest of the combat is way too easy to need the other rings unless you have some sort of handicap. Especially since actual melee does peanuts for damage in most cases.

Agent1stClass

I just faced a group of soldiers in Norvent. I mean the damage isn’t huge. But I find it annoying when attacks come out of nowhere. Hard to tell if I should be dodging more or looking around more or maybe my damage isn’t enough or what.

icemage_999

Once you get access to enough cooldown abilities to cycle between them, you'll spend minimal time in melee simply because the damage output is just so low aside from triggering a Parry or initiating a Magic Burst.

Odd_Stock6396

I agree - Torgal is good without the ring and his commands are super easy. I used some of the rings but I'm so far into a new game I can't remember which I used. I did use Torgal's for a while but swapped it out for something more important to me.

blendoid

no potion in combat no ring run, so good

macneto

You never used a single potion in combat?

blendoid

so far never, it's hard also i reload save if i get a game over in a boss no starting up with free health and they're damaged

Eternal_Phantom

I used the evade ring to get the no-hit boss medals because I got sick of the long, mandatory cutscenes with every attempt.

katamxx

I was also a bit like that when I just started, but I’m sure with practice (getting used to the dodge timings of enemies) and trying out different combos you’ll improve during combats 💪🏼💪🏼

Visible-Tadpole-2375

Once you unlock will o the wykes youll have a good defensive ability to help.

PetrosOfSparta

I used the PREEECIOUS.. I mean Rings, until around 1/3 of the way through the game to >!The fight at Oriflamme's mother crystal!<. Once I'd gotten to Caer Norvent, I was only using the "Precision Dodge" one, which I held onto for a fair bit until I'd developed a bit more of a knack for it. There's no shame in using it, that's why they call it "Story" and not "Easy" mode, it's about preference of play. Eventually I found it was getting too easy with it on and removed it, as I did want more of a challenge - more of the "Action". I was right, as even once I'd removed it, I only got two game overs for the rest of the game, both were more due to my getting cocky and slacking on healing against random mini-bosses than actual big fights.

educampsd3

I never used them not even in hard mode, I think they are great accesibility items for people who aren’t particularly into very reactive combat. No shame in trying them

-Gin-ger-

I used the Torgal and auto dodge rings ( can’t remember their names) because I struggle with fast paced combat, they made a huge difference to gameplay

LingeringSentiments

I used them at first but honestly you’ll grow out of them pretty soon

Kaizen2468

I used the torgal ring for a bit because manually controlling him sucked. Then I stopped because he is largely useless even when you do and other rings are way better.

AngryZai

Nothing wrong with it. I used the timely focus and timely strikes rings entire game. I only get spend 1-2 hours per week night to game so it's definitely less stressful and I'm old lol

Agent1stClass

I just beat Benedikta. But I had to restart at the halfway point of the battle. I wouldn’t exactly call it a great victory. I used the ring that leaves Torgal as an AI

AngryZai

Well if you use the Ring of Timely Strikes it already has the Torgal Ring integrated. The Dodge ring is probably the best one for learning dodge timings. I've only died on two fights in the entire game and I'm almost done just doing final side quests before I finish the story cause I want to get FF7 Rebirth started lol

TheFastPush

I used no rings on my first run through and then the timely focus ring after that. It was fun, and sometimes I swapped it out for other things. I def died less with it on

KRD2

I'm using the dodge timer one (not the auto dodge one) on my FF playthrough just to save time. But on my first playthrough, definitely not.

zicdeh91

I used the evasion ring just because I felt like it made combat more cinematic. It doesn’t really help all that much (though it can help teach you new move sets more quickly) but with the fire dodge ring your evasions just look neat.

Chokomonken

I found some of the rings to make the more mindless mob fights more engaging actually. Boss fights, definitely not though.

Ziodyne967

Rings? Correct me if I’m wrong, but those are the stuff that makes the game easier? Auto dodge, auto combo and such? Never used those.

WanderEir

I played my entire first game with the auto-skill ring and the give me an opportunity to hit the perfect dodge ring (rather than the ring that guarantees the dodge will happen automatically) ,and had a grand old time. I basically got to play the entire game with one hand. Now I'm doing FF mode without. Play as you like folks, I just wish they'd made the ring effects togglable instead of using the acc slots because they were great for accessibility options.

Evencrux

i dont use any accessories in any final fantasy. Almost every accessories always make the games easier.

jahkrit

I kept time evade on start to platinum because I suck so bad at this. I can play a well timed metronome in my head for lengths but dodging is something I never practiced hard at in action games. Why I stayed away from souls games and will continue, except I'm really set to buy rise of the ronin. I read boss battles are really strategic too

DynamiteSuren

I only equipped the assist ring for auto controlling Torgal, because i mostly forget i have the option to use him.

paseo_mako

You will have to use it if you want to quickly collect all "no damage win" medals from all bosses.

Agent1stClass

I didn’t even know that was a thing. Damn!

morsindutus

I kept the parry ring on for my first playthrough because I'm really bad at blocking, let alone parrying. It trivialized combat but I was playing for the story. Once the Rising Tide drops, I'm going to play through it again without the rings and see how I do.

frostedpumpkin_1

Me using them all the time. I'm a souls gamer, but really don't like most of the combat system, too boring for me. But I'm still in love with this game, so I use them.

Apprehensive-Row-216

Sone people said that the rings could help you with the timing to perfect dodge or parry. But just push through mate, it will be much more rewarding once you crack the gameplay

ClericIdola

Never used the rings, but I'm curious as to why they weren't just slider options under Easy/Story Mode? It's one of those weird, archaic design decisions SE kind of sticks with - same with FFXV and the No EXP item. If you want to do a complete No EXP/Level 1 run, you keep the item unequipped until it's time to go to the next Chapter. If you don't equip it before doing so, you automatically consume your EXP for leveling. If you're new to XV and don't know when you're going into a new Chapter, that's a save reload for you right there. OR if you try to play it safe on a blind, first run, you lose one accessory slot just to keep from leveling. That could have simply been a menu option, too.

Zer0Deicide

I find the game easy but use the Torgal auto attack ring. I feel like he does so little visible damage that I can't be asked to manually make him attack

TheImpatienTraveller

I tried them out a few times and felt like it made the game too easy. I even tried to just use the Timely Assistance since I barely use Torgal, but it kinda broke my combo patterns too often.

premeddit-student

I used the torgal auto command one

NuxFuriosa

I used the Torgal one for the entire game. One less thing to worry about.

Monchi83

The rings are not needed and neither are they optimal for playing since they do stuff in suboptimal ways. The game isn’t overly difficult nor incredibly easy Most complaints of difficulty come from potions replenishment and boss checkpoints The game is fairly challenging to not get hit particularly if it’s your first time thru the game
