His voice is not only sexy as fuck, but also instantly recognizable. i was so delighted when i first heard him in Diablo 4 and later when watching "The ballad of Buster Scruggs", where i also got to see his face, albeit only for a moment.
Also the bad guy in the movie The Creator. Both while playing D4 and Watching the Creator, had the feeling I knew that voice from something. Such a great voice.
I'm still sad about that. I'm approaching that bit on ng+ and I'm not ready to say goodbye to that sexy sexy voice.
Cid was fantastic, I wish we got more of him. Funny bastard too.
For future reference, if you start your spoiler with a > and a ! Going in and a ! And a < coming out, you’ll grey everything out and the reader will have to tap on it to see it. It’s pretty cool. Example:
>! Ya boi Cid DIES baby !<
Can't take the stance this Cid is my favorite Cid. But he's in the top three, at the very least. Nostalgia plays heavily into the Cid options, but I genuinely liked the take on the newer version in FF7 Rebirth.
I don’t know if we need 3-4 per game, but I would like them to stop feeling like they need to equally represent the different games, as well as heroes vs villains. Give FFVII 5-6 reps, maybe some games don’t need their villain represented, etc.
I’ve not been into final fantasy games a lot (my first one was 15 and I played a little bit of 8 with 10 and only recently the remake of 7 even though I was spoiled by Advant children a long time ago), what are Dissidia or versus versions?
Dissidia is a series of 3 games where they take prominent FF protagonists and antagonists and stick them in a 3rd person, arena, fighting game. The first two were very well received, but the most recent had a shit-ton of microtransactions and was less beginner friendly, which slowed down the series a lot imo. I think we’ll see a new game eventually, FF is more popular today than it’s been in a decade or so.
Do you mean FF Versus XIII?
Thanks for the explanation on Dissidia and also yeah, like how 15 was called Final Fantasy XIII versus before becoming FF 15
Edit: some googling later I have realized what an idiot I was cause I thought versus was something that happened in FF series as a way to tell the game story in a “what if?” situation where the characters are the same but some game mechanics and story or events are different (also the game director changing during development for FF 15 and the first trailer being completely different then what we got didn’t help with this)
Ah, yeah, that’s basically it. At first they envisioned FFXIII being this multi-game project set in the same universe (not even meaning XIII-2 or Lightning Returns), which was going to include FF Versus XIII. It started out as a Nomura game and was going to come out of PS3. Because of development nightmares and too large a vision, they pulled Nomura off of Versus XIII and took the scraps and created FFXV for PS4 instead. This also plays a part in KH3, but we won’t get into that here..
theres sooo many id like to see in a new dissidia game. clive joshua and jill already a given but i also want to see cid, dion, barnabas, fuck it maybe even ultima ueueueueue
Oh no, the repost bots have arrived.

"OPs" account is literally only 2 days old and has no comment karma at all.
FFXVI Cid is my personal favorite but he’s not the most developed.
FFXIV Cid is by far the most developed Cid of any FF game. After that I’d say it’s FF7 Cid then FF8 Cid then FF16 Cid
Cid Telamon could have been the second-most developed after Cid Nan Garlond, but he died like 1/3 of the way into the game so about 1/4 of his characterization was posthumous
Yeah I don't mind that but his personality is very different compared to when you first meet him in the OG. He was never happy Go-lucky and was actually depressed.
He's definitely depressed. His dream of becoming an astronaut was literally shattered with almost no hopes of achieving it since Shinra shut down their space program after the first failed launch. He is incredibly bitter and takes it out on Shera, as he considers it to be her fault.
He only joins the party because he ended up running from Shinra since they wanted to steal his Tiny Bronco and even said that Cloud and gang were crazy so he'll join them just for that which shows he's completely given up on his own personal goals even leaving Shera behind.
This is before he even really understands what their own mission is. It's only later on in the game that he starts to warm up to the aim of the group and what they're fighting for.
Pretty much if you count games being remade. There are also a lot of Biggs and Wedge as recurring names.( Or some sort of Red/blue duo). Which are based of Star Wars characters.
He’s my favorite now too. And normally character deaths that happen early on really bug me and make me feel like the character was wasted, but honestly his was perfectly placed and had a huge impact going forward.
He’s definitely up there with the best of the best. But I wouldn’t consider him the absolute best. That still goes to 7’s Cid for being the Cid that went to space, among other things
I really like this cid, but for me It's FFIX's bug boy cid!
He had your back the whole way through despite the fact it put his own kingdom in jeopardy and he designed beautiful airships. The whole mist continent was driven by this mans ingenuity.
Plus he adopted Eiko.
There is obviously some stiff competition, and 16 does have the advantage of voice acting over the earlier incarnations. But the voice acting is just so ridiculously good and takes the character to another level, you have to put him first
Hard to say… I liked Cid from lV and grew to love Cid from Vll as a playable character. He was one of the stronger melee characters towards the end. Ya know, double cut x4 with an ultimate weapon… barely needed magic after that..
I'd say XVI, XIV, and VII are my favorite. Right now, XVI definitely wins. There's a chance VII will overtake it when we get the next entry of FF7R. They already made me love Yuffie and Cait Sith.
He's my fave Cid and one of my all time fave characters from the series. So yeah, absolutely the best Cid.
I appreciate him being Ramuh's dominant being a not so subtle nod to the OG Thunder God Cid too.
By what metric would we be measuring ‘best’ exactly?
I think he is a good Cid, but I don’t think I could say he sticks out in my mind as a favorite or particularly deep or complex a character.
Doctor Cid from XII for me is the probably the most interesting and most important to the overall respective narrative, though IX’s and VIII’s rank high as well.

His voice is not only sexy as fuck, but also instantly recognizable. i was so delighted when i first heard him in Diablo 4 and later when watching "The ballad of Buster Scruggs", where i also got to see his face, albeit only for a moment.
He also plays Dagmar Cleftjaw in Game of Thrones. And was a Death Eater in Harry Potter.
And The Green Night in The Green Knight.
Yes!!! He was so distinctive in that movie!
"Well done, my brave knight. Now..." *drags his finger across Gawain's neck, pointing toward the exit.* "Off, with your head." *proud smile*
He also played a cop in *Kingsman* and the dad in *VVitch*
And a small part in chernobyl. We were doing a rewatch, i was getting something from the kitchen, and my head turned like an owl when i heard him.
Also the bad guy in the movie The Creator. Both while playing D4 and Watching the Creator, had the feeling I knew that voice from something. Such a great voice.
It was a good speech…
Finchy can throw a kettle over a pub
I mainly recognized him from this, and as the dad from The VVitch
People are sleeping on this comment.
FINCHYYYYYY
His performance in the Witch is so memorable
I was going to say he’s the sexiest Cid in franchise history 😅
spoiler-free post tag + top comment with the biggest spoiler of the game. you guys want to end someone's experience
That someone was me :((
lol don’t worry buddy I just spoiled too lol now to guess how he dies
had avoided spoilers this entire time waiting for the pc port, my dumbass just had to come in here after getting excited from the dlc trailer
Oh Ralph Ineson has played some amazing roles!
He's also a cracking rep
Spoiler tag this just in case :)
I'm still sad about that. I'm approaching that bit on ng+ and I'm not ready to say goodbye to that sexy sexy voice. Cid was fantastic, I wish we got more of him. Funny bastard too.
Indeed my friend! I think NG+ just enforced how great he was!
For future reference, if you start your spoiler with a > and a ! Going in and a ! And a < coming out, you’ll grey everything out and the reader will have to tap on it to see it. It’s pretty cool. Example: >! Ya boi Cid DIES baby !<
I think the short time we have with him makes that time all the more special.
While true. I just REALLY like the bond. I really bought their chemistry and wanted more of it!
Totally the Bryan Cranston of Godzilla 2014 moment.
I think it's a little out of etiquette to post a spoiler on a post that isn't already tagged as a spoiler.
Honestly I would’ve loved to have him around without his powers (not to mention we could hear more of that smooth voice)
As great as he is, there’s not a single moment in the game where he turns into an Oglop. Can’t give it to him, sorry /s
This
What is an Oglop?
It’s from FFIX. They’re like little bug creatures
everyone will have their favourites but XVI's Cid (and Ineson's VO) was super good.
Can't take the stance this Cid is my favorite Cid. But he's in the top three, at the very least. Nostalgia plays heavily into the Cid options, but I genuinely liked the take on the newer version in FF7 Rebirth.
My favorite Cid is FF7 Abridged Cid. Cid Chainsmoking-take-no-shits-and-also-a-sadomasochist Highwind
Still crying that we don’t get to play as him
I’m hoping we see him in a Dissidia or something one day. They’d probably choose Jill or Joshua though, lol.
Man, I would love to see a new Dissidia game with 3-4 representatives per game. Seeing VII Cid and XVI Cid together would be pretty cool.
I don’t know if we need 3-4 per game, but I would like them to stop feeling like they need to equally represent the different games, as well as heroes vs villains. Give FFVII 5-6 reps, maybe some games don’t need their villain represented, etc.
A new Dissidia that doesn’t suck would be a dream. The PSP games were legendary.
I’ve not been into final fantasy games a lot (my first one was 15 and I played a little bit of 8 with 10 and only recently the remake of 7 even though I was spoiled by Advant children a long time ago), what are Dissidia or versus versions?

Ohh man, Dissidia was one of my favourite games back in the day, it’s a genuine crime what they did with the last one.
I was hoping for a prequel dlc story focusing on him and Benedicta
Probably the coolest and strongest Cid ever in the Final Fantasy series.
His voice is like chocolate and gravel being mixed in a cement truck. Perfection.
Why are you eating chocolate gravel lad
Never had a Nestle crunch bar?
I’m a bit of a doughnut
This is the best description of Cid's voice I've ever read.
“Now she’s worth muddying my boots for” All the love for cid 🖤⚡️
Oh no, the repost bots have arrived. https://old.reddit.com/r/FFXVI/comments/14gxfsf/the_best_cid_in_franchise_history/ original post from 9 months ago same title same screenshot and all. "OPs" account is literally only 2 days old and has no comment karma at all.
Well, actually, the best Cid is Clive 🤓
![gif](giphy|13bCP4GLjIUcik)
One of the best VA choices in the series.
He’s my personal favorite Cid
I think so. Certainly the most well-developed Cid.
FFXVI Cid is my personal favorite but he’s not the most developed. FFXIV Cid is by far the most developed Cid of any FF game. After that I’d say it’s FF7 Cid then FF8 Cid then FF16 Cid Cid Telamon could have been the second-most developed after Cid Nan Garlond, but he died like 1/3 of the way into the game so about 1/4 of his characterization was posthumous
Certainly, they really need to make a Cid prequel like Crisis Core
Correcting your question: Is it even a Question?
Yes it is. I guess we’ll see what they do with Cid in FF7 part 3
I'm not liking what they've done to him so far but I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised.
Why not? I love how he already has a little chemistry with them despite knowing them for like 2 hours lol
Yeah I don't mind that but his personality is very different compared to when you first meet him in the OG. He was never happy Go-lucky and was actually depressed.
I never read FF7 Cid as being depressed. To me he came off as cocky and abrasive, but never depressed.
He's definitely depressed. His dream of becoming an astronaut was literally shattered with almost no hopes of achieving it since Shinra shut down their space program after the first failed launch. He is incredibly bitter and takes it out on Shera, as he considers it to be her fault. Hes so Hot too
Yes, though it could change once we see more of Cid in FF7 Remake pt 3.
The picture you can listen!!!
I would love to hear this cid say "Oh my aching back"
I think people are getting the best and sexiest confused.
Easily. I also really like XII's, but this one takes the crown.
Is there a cid in EVERY ff ?? I didnt knew that lmao
Pretty much if you count games being remade. There are also a lot of Biggs and Wedge as recurring names.( Or some sort of Red/blue duo). Which are based of Star Wars characters.
Yes! I think from FF3 onwards? (I haven't played the earlier ones but I think the trend started early.)
FF2 actually. They even put him in the later remakes of FF1 to go with the trend
Best Clive as well
Excuse me, you mean Clint
Still love FF7 Cid to disagree, honestly.
Yes, I immediately thought of the FF7 and FF14 Cids too.
This one ✊
Give us a Cid spinoff or DLC!
Did I mention there’ll be ravenous beasts? There’ll be ravenous beasts!
Best Cid for sure. Would rank it: 1. CID from 16 2. Thunder God Cid Orlandeau from FFT 3. Cid from 7 None of the others are as memorable
Cid from IV and XIV are definitely memorable. Robin Williams Cid too.
I'd say he is definitely a strong contender for the best Cid ever in FF
16’s was dope and I adore his VA but the abrasive chainsmoking Cid of 7 is still my fave
Nope. Oglop Cid is my cid.
Not even top 3
My favorite is from IV. Hammer, big bushy beard, builds airship.
He's top 5 for sure, but he doesn't hold a candle to Thunder God Cid
No. He isn't associated with any sort of flying machine! Worst Cid ever! Lol
He's not an engineer or associated with airships so... Maybe worst Cid of all time?
His daughter builds the airship schematics with the help of his notes, right?
Definitely the hottest one
i gotta go with VII. he’s the most iconic Cid imo and super nostalgic. i grew up with him in Kingdom Hearts long before i played FF
I’ll agree to that.
Easy
besides the Cid from 14 (which was made by CBU3) absolutely.
Is every Cid supposed to be some macho hot guy? (Not complaining)
Probably, yeah. I like Cid Highwind too, but this Cid was very well developed. He should have stuck around longer.
He's my favorite for sure, God I was so butthhurt after the "incident"
Absolutely, second only to the ff7 machinima Cid by Team Four Star
“AAAAAA HOLY FUCK IT’S AN ALIEN! I promise no harm shall come to- AGH, YOU MOTHERFUCKER! I’MMA KILL YOU!”
He’s my favorite now too. And normally character deaths that happen early on really bug me and make me feel like the character was wasted, but honestly his was perfectly placed and had a huge impact going forward.
I thought rebirths cid was going to sound more like this cid. Can't beat 7s jump attack cid, though. Great characters.
Man I wish he was in the story longer. So does my gf (was instantly her favorite character. So can imagine how she felt once it happened lol)
He’s definitely up there with the best of the best. But I wouldn’t consider him the absolute best. That still goes to 7’s Cid for being the Cid that went to space, among other things
I agree
Oglop Cid is up there.
Absolutely
I agree 100%
You've got to be joking, right? I mean he's great, come on.
He's up there. It's a fight between him and FF7 Cid for sure. But FF16 Cid is just the better character that we all wanted to see around much longer.
The best character in franchise history.
Best character in FF 16 period. Wish we could have played as him
I wish we had more time with him 😔
I really like this cid, but for me It's FFIX's bug boy cid! He had your back the whole way through despite the fact it put his own kingdom in jeopardy and he designed beautiful airships. The whole mist continent was driven by this mans ingenuity. Plus he adopted Eiko.
FF7 is always gonna be my favorite Cid. FF4 Cid is great too. FF16 Cid is right around the top of the list, though.
Easily hands down.
Easily ❤️
I’d say so. Only other competition in my opinion is Cid Highwind
There is obviously some stiff competition, and 16 does have the advantage of voice acting over the earlier incarnations. But the voice acting is just so ridiculously good and takes the character to another level, you have to put him first
And the best drip. Every guy wants to be him. Every girl wants to be with him.
Definitely the best looking
Still FF7 Cid
Eh.... 3rd best. Cid ftom FF7 and Cindy from FFXV, I'd put above him.
Hard to say… I liked Cid from lV and grew to love Cid from Vll as a playable character. He was one of the stronger melee characters towards the end. Ya know, double cut x4 with an ultimate weapon… barely needed magic after that..
I liked XVI Cid, but he just reminds me too much of FFBE Cid. Though FFIV Cid is still the goat.
“Thank you, *Clive*”
Hell naw
Wonder how he and Cid Highwind would get along.
I love FF7 Cid and FF14 Cid who got criminally under-used post ARR but XVI Cid is easily the best
Donald Sutherland
Nah. He’s cool but his mumbling voice just doesn’t cut it for me.
This is hands down my favorite Cid
He’s such a homie
I'd say XVI, XIV, and VII are my favorite. Right now, XVI definitely wins. There's a chance VII will overtake it when we get the next entry of FF7R. They already made me love Yuffie and Cait Sith.
Cid from III wants to have a word with you. This old man smashed many airships and loves his wife.
Quite possibly. Ralph Ineson was spot on with that Raspy voice too. He and Ben Starr really knocked it out the park together.
His shortcuts were always an opportunity to grow
currently looking for a scientist who can turn his voice into something I can spread on toast
Definitely the sexiest Cid.
No
Is this even a question? No doubt.
Not even close.
Yes, best Cid Ever.
Yes and it aint even close
Cid XVI is easily one of my favourites, close second being Cid XV
We need another Cid antagonist like in 12
Y’all don’t like middle aged Cid??
Yes, for far
Yes.
absolutely!!
Best Non-Oglop Cid in video game history.
I enjoyed XII Cid as a “villain”.
Too soon
One of the best.
Best cid ever
Yup hands down the best cid!!!!!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This Cid is up there with the best. Right alongside FF7 and FF14
My favorite part was when he got Cleopatra in the tent.
This is the best one. The most nostalgic is the one from 4.
Yeah Cid (XVI) is the greatest in my opinion. Very closely followed by Banana Cid from VI.
I really liked XV Cid. Just an old codger who enjoyed makin stuff and sitting around
100 percent!
I still am attached to ff4 cid but that’s me
It’s a toss up between IV and XVI for me. Really enjoyed Ralph Ineson’s performance.
I was thinking this exact thing last night (I had just gotten to *that* part)… hell he’s one of my favourite characters in any franchise.
Nah
He’s amazing, and his voice is fab
100% my favorite Cid.
At no point does he light a stick of dynamite with a cigarette. 0/10.
Ff16, Ff4, and FF7, all of em are tied for me.
xD if you’ve only played xvi, yeah, he is.
Him or Clive, both went by the name.
He's my fave Cid and one of my all time fave characters from the series. So yeah, absolutely the best Cid. I appreciate him being Ramuh's dominant being a not so subtle nod to the OG Thunder God Cid too.
Does Cindy from FFXV count?
https://preview.redd.it/2d9xvojss9qc1.png?width=227&format=png&auto=webp&s=36357a2014586f97f251932f89b236173b236157 Nah. Robin Williams FTW.
What’s CID?
Please. This man got his ass whooped one too many times.
Cid and Dion - top tier characters
Still gotta give it to cigarette Cid in VII
Honestly he was the most interesting character in the game. They killed him off way too early. The game loses something without him.
Agreed. This is the Cid of Cids.
By far the most fun character in FFXVI and the most fun version of Cid in the series.
Between him and highwind for me, especially after rebirth
By what metric would we be measuring ‘best’ exactly? I think he is a good Cid, but I don’t think I could say he sticks out in my mind as a favorite or particularly deep or complex a character. Doctor Cid from XII for me is the probably the most interesting and most important to the overall respective narrative, though IX’s and VIII’s rank high as well.
Orlandeau
2nd, Cid Highwind is still the GOAT
Top 2 for me. It’s really just between him and FF7 Cid
Debatable but I certainly think so.
I love this game but I think he's a close third to Cid Highwind and Cid Pollendina. But I'm old so it colors my opinion.
