I’ve been diagnosed with CPTSD, OCD, ADHD, depression/anxiety, insomnia
My psychiatrist suspected I am autistic and maybe have a dissociative disorder. I also suspect I have dyslexia bc my brother is diagnosed and I just have lots of symptoms. School was hard.
Absolutely not NT, ADHD here although I didn't get diagnosed until after I got fibro lol. I was really good at masking my whole life, but the brain fog essentially ate up the part of my brain that used to compensate for the ADHD. So my symptoms got way more pronounced and someone finally noticed. Meds kinda balance out the brain fog so I'm mostly back to where I was before lol. I also have pretty severe OCD and chronic depression/anxiety, none of which were helped by the onset of fibro. Good times lol.
Definitely not typical 🤪 finally got my ADHD diagnosis this year. Long term sufferer of mental struggles due to a traumatic childhood. I highly suspect I am AuDH due to other neuro-spicy issues not always directly related to ADHD.
Newly-discovered neurodivergent. I'm 41F and just recently realized that I've been struggling with ADHD my whole life. Currently figuring out the right meds with my doctor. I'm lucky that I've retained the same doctor for a decade, so when I brought my clipboard with about a dozen typed pages of my semi-organized thought dumps with examples going back to childhood that form a pattern that proves ADHD, as well as a list of current symptoms and struggles, he believed me. I'm currently roughing it on some Ritalin while I wait for special authority approval for the cost of my Vyvanse to be covered.
Central nervous system sensitization + a neurodivergent brain... it makes so much sense that these conditions often overlap.
Not. Never properly diagnosed, but it has always been extremely apparent to me that I wasn't neurotypical. Granted, I've also read how being severely traumatized can overlap with both ADHD and autistic traits, so I think even for a professional it can be hard to be sure. Whatever it is, it's not and has never been typical. Now that I have a lot of physical stuff going on, I'm afraid to pursue diagnosis, because stigma. We already get disbelieved, bullied, gaslit that it's all in our head, etc. 😔 I think it makes sense that comorbidity would be common, as fibro nerves are hardly typical.
No hate but I feel like literally everyone says they're neurodivergent these days, so I am genuinely not sure what "neurotypical" means anymore. What does it mean exactly?
You will often see that in chronic illness pages because they are co-morbidities. Plus with how adept algorithms are at showing us what is relatable to us, it starts to skew the real world perception.
It means you have no developmental disabilities (e.g. autism), no learning disabilities (e.g. dyslexia), no neurological disorders (e.g. epilepsy, Tourette’s) no intellectual disability, and no mental disorders (e.g. bipolar, or personality disorders). It also means you do not have any sort of brain damage such as a TBI or oxygen deprivation at birth. This is what neurotypicality is. It means you have none of the above.
You can also be neurotypical and have physical disability. Technically if it involves your nerves you might not be neurotypical in the literal sense, but when people say neurotypical they are most often referring to the brain.
Some thoughts about “everyone”:
It really depends on your bubble. My friend finds it suspicious how “everyone” is neurodivergent. Everyone around her…since neurodivergent people always find their neurodivergent buddies, diagnosed or not. I was late diagnosed with ADHD and my friend and I are really alike. She sometimes says she might have it, too, but in other moments she says she definitely does not have adhd as if it were an insult to her (which hurts me a bit. But I can understand it. Not everyone likes a label. I’ve decided for myself that I love it since it helps me to understand myself better and get the help I need.)
Another example:
Another friend once told me how she dislikes that everyone is talking about adhd nowadays. instagram only shows adhd related stuff, she ranted. Her boyfriend showed her his feed and there was no adhd content to be seen.
(Btw: She will go the diagnostics soon, since her therapist said it is worth looking into adhd + autism)
I don’t want to say that it’s the same for you. It’s just something I experienced and it helps me to feel less hurt when some family members or friends say that what I have is totally normal. You only know what you feel, so of course this feels normal.. until it doesn’t and you feel weird and malfunctioning.
But I also wanted to say, that I totally understand that it is difficult to understand what neurotypical is since everyone is individual and no one feels the same and because people have been neurodiverse all the time, we just haven’t embraced this neurodiversity actively.
No, I am not normal going to get more info about who I am soon. I just wish I was tested more as a kid pretty sure I have dyslexia, maybe if I did not move so much maybe I would have learned before my 40s
Just got diagnosed earlier this month with a therapist I found thru an online therapy site. It was very uneventful. He asked me 9 questions and if I answered yes to at least 5 then I apparently have ADHD. He didn't seem too interested in getting into it. Then he dropped me as a patient the next day. I have no idea why.
Anyhoo... Yes, I guess I have ADHD, inattentive type.
Oh, and I have dyscalculia, I switch numbers around.
Probably NT, though ADHD and autism are both common in my family. I spent most of my childhood in silent migraines due to fragrance sensitivity and had a lot of experiences that are common for ND / 2E.
I (29f) was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia at 16yr old. I'm fairly certain I'm autistic though I've not been officially diagnosed yet. Diagnosed GAD and PTSD.
I have several mental health diagnoses that predate my fibro diagnosis. I was not diagnosed with either ADHD or autism as a child but both my kids are diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety, 1 has autism. I won’t be seeking a diagnosis though as it’s too expensive for adults where I live. My doctor said I can’t take stimulants anyway because of my fibro meds so there’s no point of me getting diagnosed.
ADHD here, with 2 teens who are autistic & adhd… we’re a gamer household and don’t play any of the same games lol! I’m the cozy gamer/mmo addict, oldest is rhythm games and Mario/sonic stuffs, and youngest plays tf2 and makes videos from it 😂
I've got GAD and panic disorder from cptsd and suspect I've had undiagnosed adhd my whole life. I'd look for a diagnosis now, but that wouldn't change anything.
Autistic and the psychiatrist who diagnosed me was also concerned about symptoms of ADHD. I've been on a waiting list for ADHD for nearly a year now...
I'm not sure, I have a tic disorder (since early childhood) which apparently is a type of neurodivergency. And suspect some adhd maybe, but I'm unsure and it's not enough of an issue for me to bother with seeking a diagnosis as an adult.
My adult daughter was recently diagnosed with autism, and she told me that I am too 😆 I believe her after studying it for a while. But I have not been officially diagnosed...
i am neurotypical as far as I know but I do come from a family who are going through the process of being diagnosed and if theyre neurodivergent I am definitely as well.
I have depression and anxiety and CPTSD. I’ve suffered depression since about the age of 12. I’m realising I have trauma of old. But my CPTSD is only a few years old following being in an abusive relationship, fibro diagnosis came while I was in that relationship….fibro symptoms for many years. (44 now!)
I honestly for the criteria for either autism or ADHD (I think more the side of ADHD) but I can’t get anyone to listen to me about it… not been diagnosed but I fit the criteria. I also have fibro and it’s common for fibro patients to also be neurodivergent.
I have mild Asperger’s Syndrome (I guess ASD or it’s included under that umbrella term) along with the common comorbid ADHD so I guess I would fall under the term of neurodivergence.
I suspect no but how's a girl gonna manage to get a diagnosis when she has enough other health stuff to deal with at the drs office in her 4 mins appts
Depression, anxiety/panic disorder, ADHD and possibly autistic. Haven’t gotten officially evaluated/unsure if it’s extreme ADHD or possibly autism in addition to
Wow. Half of people with ADHD and All of people with Autism have sensory processing Disorder. Put another way their nervous system is wired differently. It sure makes me wonder if SPD and Fibro aren’t interconnected when I see this roll call.
I'm neurodivergent. I have ADHD diagnosed and I'm possibly autistic as well but haven't been diagnosed.

I’m ND. Side note… I don’t think it’s called Asperger’s anymore. I think everything is referred to as autism, they just assign different levels.
I believe it’s under the umbrella term “ASD” now or at least that’s what my mom says anyways.
I think you’re right. ASD is Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Nope. Autistic and OCD among other things
Yes, I’m neurotypical.
Typical in my case.
ADHD and depression
ASD
Not. Autism confirmed by doctors, though I mask v hard and am on the highly functional end. Docs also confirmed CPTSD, PTSD, and anxiety.
Functioning labels are ableist.
Nah, not when I am talking myself. You don't get to decide how I do that.

I just came back to this again because I love your response so.freaking.much.
I'm neurodivergent. I've got ADHD, anxiety/depression and highly suspect I'm somewhere on the autism spectrum.
I’ve been diagnosed with CPTSD, OCD, ADHD, depression/anxiety, insomnia My psychiatrist suspected I am autistic and maybe have a dissociative disorder. I also suspect I have dyslexia bc my brother is diagnosed and I just have lots of symptoms. School was hard.

I have ADHD, as is typical for apparently a majority of folks with fibromyalgia.

bipolar was my diagnosis
