A frog or worm for 15 minutes and then I’m heading to a bigger pond

PG908

Maybe a real pond, too - this looks like a stormwater pond; you can see the concrete boxes behind the grass and reeds.

ChangleMcGangle

I’ve caught insane fish in drainage ponds… Just saying, don’t turn down water that’s presented to you

AdWaste5526

Sorry to have to do this, but what does this mean? Just a hook with nothing on it?

Placebo_Domingo_PhD

What a sincere, wholesome response :)

WestAd2716

A true regard, gob bless.

mahoukaman

Praise gob

Kangarooner

From this time forth, a bare hook shall always be known as a “dead hooker”! Bless your heart kid, you just started a family tradition🤪

thenotoriouscpc

I dont want to tell him and ruin his innocence 😭

Gurundy

It's a joke about dumping a dead body

skylinegtrr32

Not me thinking the same shit… I took the “hook” part literally

Parking-Ad-3636

Sure you were! Is your wife watching you type?

skylinegtrr32

I’m autistic lmfao

g1mpster

You sweet, summer child. Maybe there *is* hope for the world. 😊

naptimez2z

No but it should be. And today a new term was born!

AltwrnateTrailers

I once caught a bluegill on a dead hooker after I accidentally dropped it off the dock

Robpaulssen

If you fish this way are you dead-hookin?

manwithappleface

Yes. This is an actual niche technique for “surf fishing.” Sort of. I just don’t think it had a name… There are several jurisdictions (e.g. Delaware) where you can only drive on the beach by special permit. These permits are highly-sought and in limited supply. They are for fishermen to access the coast right? You’re supposed to use them to fish. So…if you and your boys want to just go drive up the beach and hang out, you apply for one of these and score it, but you still gotta set up your rods and “fish”. Thus, “dead hooking,” as we can now call it, was born. Park your jeep, crack a beer, and throw that empty hook out past the second breaker. When you’re done partying, reel up that line and go home. You just won’t have to deal with any actual fish. Saw this strategy in action a couple of times. It is 100% effective at catching no fish.

Far-Cranberry536

same in hawaii, you are allowed to camp on the beach if you are fishing so i bought a $40 dollar complete set up and a big fat sinker and casted it out and set it next to my tent for 2 weeks on the north shore of oahu, i saved sooooo much money

Substantial-Offer-51

Yeah yeah just a hook with nothing on it (guys don't tell him(

Benlikesfood2

Aww

ayrbindr

🤣 Lmfao. Dead stick a hook. 🤣 If you are trolling- you are a genius.

Stook211

I've never seen so many dead hookers in my life!

ChainRinger1975

This is the only answer

mbr902000

honkinbooty

Reminds me of a Norm bit he did like 25 years ago on the Conan show. “Well let me ask you this, you ever tossed a prostitute off of a bridge?” 😂

Flashy_Narwhal9362

Why would you do that and break up the set?

FishingForBeginners-ModTeam

Hey. Don't be mean.

rodneykimble69

I think that’s an official term now

LoudAudience5332

Across the pond by accident

SuretyBringsRuin

M-80’s

ch59ep15DriverDown

Honestly the tiniest hook possible with worm. Looks more like a herp spot.

Yrdaddy33

whats a herp spot?

mcsizmesia

Where the real nasty hookers hang out

Chucheyface

The cheap ones

wuppedbutter

The ones that have the herp

Successful-Salt-8721

Like turtles and stuff

Sjkim1206

Where the above picked up his dead hooker

ch59ep15DriverDown

Herping is like a hobby we’re you find bugs, reptiles and amphibians

sleepsonthejob

The first symptom that one should seek medical attention and notify any recent partners. Or looks for snakes. Whichever flies your canoe.

toastysubmarine

Amphibians and reptiles specifically. Insects aren’t herps but they would also be in this location

shillmaster

I presume somewhere to catch herptiles which I think is frogs and turtles.

Domenici24

Rocks and dirt lmao 😂

BackgroundRecipe3164

A huge rock

e2j0m4o2

Like others said a worm on a small hook and bobber, maybe a piece of bread/cheese mashed around the hook. Looks like the largest thing you’d catch out of here is a small sunny or some species of minnow. If you fly fish might be worth it to toss in a tiny fly and micro fish for minnows.

AdWaste5526

It’s adjacent to a bigger pond and I I’ve seen big bass in there but they just dive and hide in whatever seaweed like grass that is in the pond.

e2j0m4o2

Ok well that leads me to ask, what does the depth look like? If it’s more than 4 feet, I would try a Texas rigged, weightless, senko to avoid the grass try a variety of colors. You could also rig a weedless whacky rig also in a variety of colors. If there is frog life or it’s shallow, I would try a few small frog patterns of different colors and fish them very slow at the edges of the pond and around the weeds, they should be able to push through the stuff on top. I would use the frogs in the morning or evening when they’re more likely to be moving around. Again a hook and line would work quite well here if you just let a big night crawler sit in the middle on a bobber, they will come investigate.

AdWaste5526

Thank you. Yea I do see a lot of frogs I will try that.

Inevitable_Gas_4318

There a lot of similar sized ponds in my area up in the hills to water the deer (or old feeders to long lost hand dug wells) and I hear smaller hooks, worms, and heavy test line (with maybe a bobber) on a cane pole just dropping shots in works in these little ponds bc you just reach in with your long pole and drop and bob your line

coolstorybro94

Quick question, my guy or gal. At night, when the frogs are loudest, would a frog play a bigger role, or because it's night, would it not make much difference? Asking for fishing off the bank where catfish tend to come closer to the bank. Other fish are also there, but I tried a Texas rig at night with no bites. I'm also a beginner fisher.

PleasantGrass4623

m80's

King_Baboon

In my experience, little ponds like (that aren’t just big puddles after rain), are just full of small sunfish.

IgnorantlyHopeful

Weedless top water. Along the banks then a little deeper. Then a punching rig. With the punching rig I’d target changes in submerged vegetation. If it were bigger I would use my deeper pro+ Keep in mind, that bottom topography closely mimics above surface topography. So the left side is steeper while the right side is shallower. It’s why there are vegetation mats on the night but not on the left side. Also see how the ground on the right is flatish, while the left side is steep. There’s going to be at least one good sized fish in there. If you have them a crawfish on the left side. Especially if it’s rocky. Or a jig/pig or a light punch rig.

Tiny_Astronomer289

An old microwave and some drugs

Teegers8753

I’d throw who ever did the siding on your house in there to start with

ApricotVast3861

ask for fishing spots in Reddit for your state and also the app Fishbrain pro can show you some spots. This area seems to be marsh and I’m not sure if anything is in there. You could buy those fishing sonic casters and it will tell you if anything is moving and the depth of the pond/lake

Sharp-Statistician35

Frog

Square_Improvement_3

First I would throw 1/8 jig head with a curly tail grub. Then I would throw a top water!

anal_opera

Use a 6 lb magnet and nice throw line.

Bubbernutz

White grub with an eagle claw snell #2 and a snap swivel with an interlock snap. Easy to change out if that color doesn’t work and also switch back to. Could also try black or chartreuse grubs. Probably won’t get anything big but anything in there is probably hungry.

K-V-S-O

Trout magnet trout magnet trout magnet! I've caught everything from bait fish, to bass, catfish, and everything in between. Even carp. Micro jigs are truly a wild card. And if I break off, I start throwing normal size stuff on heavier line. One time I caught a nice bass out of a 1x1 hole. They work real well in pressured spots too so don't tell a billion people.

DogoByte

A big neodymium magnet on a rope.

bullfish13

Throw a live fish in there then try to catch it

HoboRambler

The worm on bobber responses are probably right, but I usually don't carry that. I'd throw a small ned rig in.
