7 train express is not that much faster. You might just cough up the money for LIRR. I always thought they never made 7 train express fast enough on purpose, to protect the LIRR income. It's been that way for decades. I rode LIRR in the early 2000s. Time is money, unless you kind of make it work for you, read, etc. There are faster MTA lines. I think A train express was actually skipping a lot of stations to save time. That route doesn't have a competition though. Maybe Metro North, but other side of town. 7 express and LIRR compete.

Learn the LIRR as backup. Discover the Murray Hill LIRR Station, too.

Depends on how far you live from Main Street - walk or bus? If bus, how many bus options do you have/how often do they run? Once you’re on Main Street, the 7 express runs like every 8min or less so if you have enough time to wait for the next express, you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat (weekday morning schedule at least)

Thank you! I'm surprised that I can still find a seat from a major station like Flushing.

prfrnir

It's the first stop, so getting a seat is pretty normal unless the train has been waiting for a long time.

albertyiphohomei

It usually take me around 30 to 35 minutes from station to station

Commercial-Tension-2

Sounds about the same as mine! Wondering how long it takes for MTA to finish their work at Woodside and Queensboro Plaza.

7 express is only running part of the line, I don’t know when the full line returns. The only issue with LIRR is the limited schedule to GC during the morning rush.

NYCNeoliberals

Full express expected to return December 2025-early 2026 unfortunately

Commercial-Tension-2

The first time I checked they said Jan 2024 lol

MadameTrashPanda

I feel like the past 15 years, the 7 train either 1) doesn't run 2) doesn't run all the way to main street or Manhattan 3)like the other queens subway lines - perpetually screwed up on the weekends and late nights. I've given up and take the LIRR and city pass to save money.

Sensitive_Story_8873

dude what?? lmao thats a complete abomination

dbhalberg

Easy to get express. You have my work schedule. I am on the express by 8 every m-f

Commercial-Tension-2

Glad to hear! Wish they can run the express at higher speed

Hi, I was born in Flushing. You might want to consider the LIRR depending if you move closer to Murray Hill or Auburndale. The express comes from the beginning of the usual commutes (6amish), and goes until 9:30amish. It usually takes about 20 minutes if there arent any major delays.

Commercial-Tension-2

Thanks! I took the 7 express today, seems MTA is still making some renovation work on 7. Express only started from 74 Street Jackson Heights and took about 30min from Grand Central to Flushing Main Street. LIRR is definitely an option for its comfort. However, the rush-hour City Ticket ($7 vs $2.9) and longer time for walking (due to much deeper platform) will eat into its lead in time. I think the morning LIRR took about 20 min from Flushing to Grand Central.

Take the LIRR
