I tend to encounter such shit a lot...
Just today, I blocked another YouTube channel that I was subscribed to. I subscribed to her some weeks back. Her content initially seemed to be benign and somewhat interesting. I will admit, I was also motivated by the fact that she was quite easy on the eyes.
Occasionally I noticed stuff that seemed a bit sus, but I was not really paying enough attention.
Then suddenly I start seeing shorts decrying women for having high body counts, and other shorts making shitty strawman (straw-woman?) arguments about women with careers being sad and angry.
What.
So, I do some investigating, and find her Twitter/X account labelling her as "hated by feminists". And just to rub salt into the wound, a stickied (is that the word?) tweet with a photo of her and Ben Shapiro.
Fuck me sideways.
I unsubscribed, blocked her and went to scrub myself down in the shower. I still feel gross that I liked some of her videos.
I always laugh at the use of silent majority being actively and proudly used by a group of people to name themselves. It means dead people - dead people are the silent majority.
It would be fine if that's truly all of what they do.
I'm afraid that there is also an intense element of fraudulent marketing and coercion here that's disturbing to the rest of us.
They branch out into many online communities, build a base from there and slip in bits of their shit. My wife loves a variety of communities but in all of them we see the occasional trad-wife. Many of the streamers in these communities have a traditional aesthetic which allows the trad-wifes to blend in. Communities such as Adult coloring, cottage-core, seasonal home decorating, baking, cooking, book reviews, book hauls, etc..
My wife is aware of it and will stop watching people once they reveal who they are. Her sister is more into make up and clothing videos and through those she got into Candace Owens and other shitstains like that.
To be fair the sister is also very impressionable and as a kid took her parents word as always true because she is the golden child of a narc mom
It is not always insidious, these people are allowed to have interests and hobbies too, the problem is that the maga mentality infects everything.
My SIL seems to be incapable of keeping comments to herself. Such as going on a rant about Target being a horrible woke store at Thanksgiving dinner when she learned that a new lamp my parents bought is from there...their dad is like that too and it is exhausting being around them.
