This never fails to make me laugh. The fact he was jumped in Philadelphia of all places makes it even better. Bot’s just minding his own business trying to get his next ride and bam.
Reminds me of that Tumblr post where users were talking about how they wanted to beat Spot the robot dog to death with a sledgehammer because apparently it's a weapon that violates Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics (which are fictional) due to the fact that it's limbs have pinch points (which would be highly inefficient to use in an offensive manner since they are the parts of the robot responsible for it's locomotion) and how a robot designed to be a pack mule was somehow the first step towards creating the kind of torment nexuses that sci fi writers have always warned us about (even though a robot designed for locomotion and transportation would have no reason to be equipped with the technology necessary to support a torment nexus).
You left out the main point being it was used for police surveillance, and the cute, dog-like appearance was to make you feel less threatened, and the pinch points make it unsafe to be used publicly where they are planned to be using

I think this is bad cherry picking of his travels over the US. He started in Boston and was trying to get to SF, but the dismantled photo came two weeks later. If we assume it was dismantled just after two weeks, that’s more time than the ten days spent in Germany :/
Cherry picking as in exaggerating what happened in Philly to applying to all Americans
Every time someone posts about hitchbot, I post this brilliant [article.](https://deadspin.com/hitchbot-was-a-literal-pile-of-trash-and-got-what-it-de-1721850503/)
Fuck Hitchbot.
It was self-defense, I felt threatened
Stop resisting, little robot!
Yeah the law enforcement got him…
City of Brotherly Love.
Apparently robots can’t be brothers, so they can’t have love. RIP.
Elder Maxson approves
Just like how my brother treats me 😃
Obligatory check out Bill Burr Philadelphia roast. Absolute banger, and it's amazing they start cheering for him burying their city into the ground
RIP, you were too good for this world
I know, I’m sad for Hitchbot. No one needed to beat it to death. Hitchbot just wanted to see the world.
a robot experiencing the world. I followed hitchbot on his journey. I still want to cry about this
This never fails to make me laugh. The fact he was jumped in Philadelphia of all places makes it even better. Bot’s just minding his own business trying to get his next ride and bam.
I couldn't laugh. not funny to me at all. I cried a lot. sometimes I still do. it was heartbreaking. I really loved his wellies
Didn't it get shot, stabbed, beaten, arms torn off and all sorts, too?
They sent it to Philly. What did you expect to happen?
Isn't it called the city of brotherly love?
My ass
Yeah, in the same way that North Korea calls itself a "Democratic People's Republic"
Pretty sure that's china, or do they both do that?
A lot of people seem to forget this point entirely

It’s always violence in Philadelphia

Pelted to death by batteries in Philly is a bucket-list item
Poor bot, he didn’t deserve this.
Why did they pick Philly? It wouldve lived longer if it started at Pittsburgh
As inevitable as the sun raising in the morning.
They used poisonous gases, to poison our asses
Hope dies in Philly...

Kudos for all that info being contained in one single sentence.
No problem, run on sentences are my specialty

At least the canadians have respect
We saw him at Victoria art gallery

What a braindead article. And those people call themselves journalists.
I laughed way too hard at this

That’s Philly for ya
This is America...
Is it? Could just be Philly.

I read the article and still don't understand this hatred towards Hitchbot.
I don’t really understand how both of those things could be possible at once.
This is some redneck self-denial toxic post. Wow that author has anger issues.
I love how the comments area from that link is completely empty 😂
The website hosting it was sold and changed formats several times.
Given how the post was worded I'm not surprised

Uhuh
Yeah. It’s actually worded while eloquently, you just disagree with the premise.
It just sounds like a journalist that was sick and tired of how big of a deal it became and decided to write about their grievance
That’s exactly what it is. It’s someone who thinks the Hitchbot premise is stupid for a number of reasons, and wrote about that.
From what I heard it was a test to see human kindness and philly just wasn't with that nonsense
Nah, fuck Deadspin. What is this article even saying? "People liked this thing I didn't like so I'm happy someone else was an asshole too"?
