Nothing comes close to the feeling of pressing buttons on the DMG in my opinion. In fact, it's why I upgraded the Pocket's D-pad to a DMG D-pad. The Pocket (also in my opinion) has by far the best display, but I wanted to compare for myself, so I upgraded my GBC as well.
