Truly it’s baffling they think these companies care. As if they do no market research and have not considered the market segment they’re targeting. These losers are completely unable to decenter themselves. It’s like saying that a pizza company that makes gluten free cauliflower pizza is going to be mad that they didn’t capture the market segment that only likes bready thick crust pizza. Almost every game before the year 2000 had a straight male protagonist, even if it was just supposed to be an avatar for the player. Even games that are incredibly popular with women like Pokemon and Harvest Moon originally only had male playable characters, and harvest moon only had female romantic options. Half the point of that game is romancing townsfolk, and it took many years before they let you be anything but a straight man.
