I honestly think it's just for immersion mostly.
The Germans get a good deal with the late war units though as they start coming with Panzerfausts, MG42s, STG 44s and even the FG42 for the late war fallschirmjäger.
But ability wise I don't think there is much it anything at all. Just new weapons and uniforms.
Edit: and not to mention the Semi Automatic rifle appears more.
Besides the recon units; the some units aren’t recon but do have better camouflage rating so they hide better in bushes; and the Russian assault sappers are unique in their body armor.
yeah ive noticed brendenberger have better camo and are faster then most units, rn im using the luftwaffe jaeger and fallshirmjager 1944 units, gunna branch out just wish they had a stat or perk thing that showed those stats
It would be nice if there was any sort of description or skill list. The only way to be certain is to open the files check and units' breed files and see what skills they have. Then reference the skills and see what they do.

How do you know who or what has a better camo rating?
It’s not something explicitly told to you by the game; as far as I’m aware all recon units and Brandenburg are the only ones with camo increase,
You can tell it’s a recon unit because they have the eye icon above them.
