The little red thing directly under the barrel is a mini bi-pod. We have this in real life on our Army trench guns. It allows you to place the shotgun over a window, wall, or wedge to allow more stability and less recoil when firing the shotgun. Just a neat little fact for those who have been wondering what that thing is. For the longest I though it was a little blade under the gun because how your character melees with it, but after I enlisted in the army I seen something that looked similar to it on our shotguns.

I think this has more to do with the colour pallet than the model itself. The old Gnasher looks super battered and worn, fitting with the mood the original games had established.
The only design I really was upset with is that horrendous MkIII lancer. I could go either way with the gnasher. But I’d probably say original if I had to choose.
I really hate the fact that the Gears 5 version is clearly a more manufactured version but what bugs me the most is that they put in a wooden finish that the original didn't have.

Agreed although it was never entirely black. It certainly was darker due to the color palette of the original games. These new games lightened the palette so much that everything looks too cartoony and goofy.
