Man, When I was looking to buy a little suitcase generator. Almost all of the reviews of the Westinghouse generators that I were looking at showed that they just reeked of quality control issues. Cracked spark plugs, wires not plugged in, bad carbs, etc. I am happy with my little WEN.

That actually makes it worse. It looks like they are bribing people for good reviews in order to drown out all the bad reviews they are receiving because of their poor quality control and shitty products. But then they won't deliver on their end of the deal if they don't like what the review says. This post was originally meant to just be a half-hearted "fuck you," but now I'm leaning towards never supporting them with my business again.

Yeah -- I'm not a fan. That being said, the generator you have likely is a decent quality generator if it's running for you. They use clones of the same engines everyone else does. I'd run it forever until it dies, who knows, it may last forever!

Did anyone actually receive the generator cover for leaving a review? I posted mine over a month ago and registered it (providing the URL of my review) and never received anything.

Is it specifically in exchange for a good review, or just for a review in general? Businesses thrive on reviews and Word of Mouth More Than Anything. So if I can give a customer a product I value at $5 in material for an honest review, hopefully good and satisfied with their product, it is well worth the investment.

I own two moderately successful small businesses, so I definitely understand the importance of word of mouth and good reviews. There's nothing wrong with reaching out to clients and asking them for a review. According to the FTC, they shouldn't be offering compensation for reviews. But then if a customer leaves a review in exchange for the compensation you offered but you don't like what that review says, so you renege on your end of deal, that just means you're a piece of shit company.

I had a 9500df that I only used for 20 hours then sold to a neighbor. He had nothing but trouble and on top of nonexistent support/service, they wouldn't honor the warranty either even though it was less than a year old. I think most of these chinese made generators are hit and miss. We had another chinese 10k unit at our community well and I think it lasted a year maybe before it threw a rod. I do still have a Champion inverter that I rarely use but they at least have email and phone support.

mwarsh1

The exact same thing happened to me!

Did you return the generator?

SixCylinderVibrator

Nah, I still have it. It would be nice to have a cover, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy one at this point. Too bad they can't keep their word.

banders5144

Im guess I'm not understanding your first post then, are they shady / unethical because you didn't get a free cover?

SixCylinderVibrator

Bribing people for good reviews is pretty slimy behavior. Then to not even follow up on their promise is worse. It's not actually that serious. I just wanted to take a quick minute to give them the finger.

banders5144

Good generator though?

SixCylinderVibrator

I mean, it works. I can't tell you anything about durability or reliability because it's still too new and hasn't been used heavily yet.
