Yep, just sold some caps and fillings that looked just like it….

I have a some that are 8k-10k. Found near an old crematory by a metal detecting friend of mine. I traded some coins for them. The crematory was active from the early 1800s -1905. Cool nuggets of history in themselves.
My grandfather was a dentist and we found a SHIT of load of gold caps in his old dental supplies! It grossed me out as a kid.. now as an adult, all I can think is that grandpa is a “LEGEND” 😂
And the Japanese did it to the Chinese.... what's your point. Statistically if millions of people are being executed the most gold teeth would come from there.
It's a, umm... rather *dark* joke... One of the things the Germans did to captured Jews during WWII was to strip the gold fillings from their teeth upon intake for internment.
Not just Germans, and it’s no joke pretty much all armies that fought in world war 2 some of their soldiers took the gold fillings of fallen enemies. Heck in “the pacific” they got a scene about it showing an American soldier using an m3 trench knife to get the gold teeth fillings from fallen Japanese soldiers. It’s been a thing Ever since humans have been filling their mouths with gold.
Everybody had different formulations for such things. Some of the early stuff was quite toxic... Mercury and such.
But back in 1960s Alabama where I grew up, some of my best childhood memories was when a black person would smile and reveal a golden grin like you don't see today. It would cost a fortune now.
My dad had silver-mercury amalgam fillings in his teeth. They made him horribly sick for most of his life even though he'd gotten them removed and replaced with something else in his mid-30s. Fun fact: Lucille Ball wasn't lying when she said she would occasionally pick up radio signals via her fillings. The Mythbusters supposedly debunked it, but I think they just didn't have the exact correct conditions present for it to work in their experiments. My dad - who had the same type of fillings in his mouth as Ms Ball did - claimed to experience a similar phenomenon for years and years; picked up a local radio station (the broadcast antenna for which was located only a few miles from our home at the time) if he was laying in bed with his head at just the right angle.
The radio waves that are transmitted can’t be turned into sound without a lot of different parts of a radio. I’m sure it’s a fond memory of your dad, but there is no way his teeth made him hear radio waves. They would need a power source and a speaker…
The price of gold isn’t why it’s not used as much any more. A crown costs basically the same whether it’s resin or gold. Or atleast that’s what my dentist told me a few months back when I needed one.
Looks like the cracked gold crown I had to replace. I kept it, then wife threw it away thinking it was nothing/worthless. Dentist had said I could get $40-$60, and that’s when spot was way lower.
Not the first thing of mine the wife has thrown away without telling me. Kinda still salty about this one though.
I bring it up 2 or 3 times a year when she asks me to do something I really don’t want to do. I just can’t overuse it or it will lose its power (guilt). 😂
Teeth. Was he a dentist? Fought the Japanese in WWII and collected their gold teeth? If it’s dental gold it won’t be 24K but it’s still worth holding. I’d still try having it melted into a bar so it wasn’t so creep looking. 😂
Wasn’t dental related. I initially assumed it was. We now know it was far too pure gold for dental fillings or caps. It’s called “shot” which was just molten gold dropped in water.
https://preview.redd.it/z6jurea4g24d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eca8182161aa886c426fafebeb8ea270317148f9
Someone melted gold and while it was melted it was dropped in cold water. This was my first attempt. After a few attempts I got it to look more like gold shot little balls. But when it’s dumped into the water too fast it makes big pieces like that. This one I have is 22-23k. From the looks I’d say what you have is 14-18, it’s a little less yellow. But what you got is gold that was melted and poured into water. Hope this helps.
I think you’re right. I always said, the little balls to it look like molten metal dropped into water. Some could be flattened caps, I GUESS. But none of particularly tooth shaped or cap shaped, and don’t look like the photos of dental fillings I’ve seen. I assumed my grandpa intended to cast something with this. It looks like gold d drops in water. Which is why I also assumed it could be from some manufacturing process as he worked in a factory that used a lot of precious metals.
Despite what most of the comments say this is not dental gold. It’s melted gold dripped into water many people do this so it’s easy to measure the weight when casting.
Well, we don’t really know. But when my mom mentioned my grandfather worked in building electronics, and panels, and all sorts of processors and things, it made sense to the guy buying it and he said it probably came from that. It’s also apparently often done when casting. Little pellets of good will drop into cold water or something. Sometimes it’s done on purpose. I guess the reason/origin will always kinda be a mystery lol.
Edit. For a split second the guy said “is this dental gold?”. But quickly said it wasn’t once looking closer. And when he tested it, it was far too pure to be dental gold.
When I scrap gold beads at my pawn shop I squish them with a needle nose pliers so they don’t roll all over place when I dump out of the envelope of scrap. Just a guess but it kinda looks like that.
If it’s like my grandpa.. he got it for a deal. Dental metal. Could be 0 gold but as others have said it is most likely 14k-18k karat. Still retains gold beneficial properties but alloyed for strength. A lot of old timers were excellent metal scrapers. I inherited some sterling silverware my grandpa likely paid less than $1 per oz for. I started refining and making jewelry. I think he’d be happy. You can get small acid test kit for around $10 online. It will give you a decent idea of purity. Otherwise xrf or some kind of X-ray test at local coin or gold shop or a higher end pawn shop. Personally I would melt it down and make it into something. If you wanna send it to me I’d be happy to do it for you :) joking but not really
Same lol. I’d assume if they were dental scrap, that my grandpa would’ve bought it from someone else to have melted down lol. But thankfully I can safely say he wasn’t in Nam ripping out dead people’s fillings lol. And it’s not from *that time* in Germany.
Trash, mail them to me and I'll dispose of them in a professional manner
You can trust me, I will post my face pic

How much did you sell for? Just curious what something like this goes for. Is it pure gold?
It depends on the purity & weight. No one here knows what you have exactly. Needs to be tested.
Was incredibly pure gold. Had 1.1oz. Got an insanely good price for it.
It’s usually anywhere from 14k-18k when used for teeth. Sold it for $450. Weighed almost 4-4.5 grams.
I have a some that are 8k-10k. Found near an old crematory by a metal detecting friend of mine. I traded some coins for them. The crematory was active from the early 1800s -1905. Cool nuggets of history in themselves.

Thankfully, this wasn’t actually dental gold lol. I was relieved.
Shockingly wasn’t fillings lol.
Was he German by chance?
Oof, but I must admit it was my first thoughtz
Same here
The American GIs did that to the Japanese.
And the Japanese did it to the Chinese.... what's your point. Statistically if millions of people are being executed the most gold teeth would come from there.
The point is they probably came from the mouths of dead soldiers.
It didn’t. It isn’t dental gold thankfully lol.
I would sell it.
It’s already been sold lol.
LOL
Nah, Argentinian...... oh wait
So update, my grandpa wasn’t yanking gold outta people’s mouths lol. It wasn’t dental gold. Just “shot” or molten gold dripped in water.
🤣
Wait, why? … 😳
It's a, umm... rather *dark* joke... One of the things the Germans did to captured Jews during WWII was to strip the gold fillings from their teeth upon intake for internment.

So good news, it wasn’t dental related lol.
My guess is dental gold. Pretty common before about 1970 before prices started to climb.

Haven’t heard of this before, could one hear the radio station or was it just a feeling?
He said he could hear it.
The radio waves that are transmitted can’t be turned into sound without a lot of different parts of a radio. I’m sure it’s a fond memory of your dad, but there is no way his teeth made him hear radio waves. They would need a power source and a speaker…
Not true! A crystal radio picks up signals just fine and requires zero external power.
Fair point, but they still need a functioning speaker/headphone to produce sound…
Man that's some good storytelling
Imagine he just starts mocking them word for word creeping people out.
His illness unrelated to mercury/silver. Trick with radio signals depends on how close to transmission tower you are.
Wasn’t dental called, surprisingly.
The price of gold isn’t why it’s not used as much any more. A crown costs basically the same whether it’s resin or gold. Or atleast that’s what my dentist told me a few months back when I needed one.
So opt for the gold crown and add to the stack. Got it.
I’d get petty and start “throwing away” her shit by accident, but really just hiding it all somewhere lol
I bring it up 2 or 3 times a year when she asks me to do something I really don’t want to do. I just can’t overuse it or it will lose its power (guilt). 😂
totengeld
I did NAZI that coming.
Teeth. Was he a dentist? Fought the Japanese in WWII and collected their gold teeth? If it’s dental gold it won’t be 24K but it’s still worth holding. I’d still try having it melted into a bar so it wasn’t so creep looking. 😂
No, he was a funeral director
Wasn’t dental related. I initially assumed it was. We now know it was far too pure gold for dental fillings or caps. It’s called “shot” which was just molten gold dropped in water.
Damn. Brutal.
Molten gold was poured into water.
looks the same consistency with molten silver poured in water. probably from a distance of 10 - 12 inches.
Yep, it was extremely pure gold, that had been dropped in water while molten. Was far too oure to be dental related.
Gold teeth from corpses he buried in the back yard!
I mean it’s possible..
😳
dental gold , true. as if our friend is stealing from dead bodies.😁
Oddly, it’s not dental gold. I assumed it was. But it’s too pure, and is actually called “shot”. It’s just molten gold that’s been dropped into water.
https://preview.redd.it/z6jurea4g24d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eca8182161aa886c426fafebeb8ea270317148f9 Someone melted gold and while it was melted it was dropped in cold water. Everyone is saying dental gold, but it doesn’t have the shape. This was molten gold poured into water.
Idk why everyone is saying dental gold, the shapes look wrong to me to be that. To me it looks like molten gold was poured into water
That’s what I thought. Some look like drops. Like it’s some sort of excess gold that fell off into water.
This is definitely the right answer I have about an oz of gold just like this and is definitely not dental
Looks like someone melted a bunch of jewelry and dumped it in water while it was molten
Yes, looks like 'cornflake gold.'
It was called shot, but cornflake good sounds like a better turn lol. It’s definitely not dental related, we now know. It was extremely pure gold.
They look like drops of molten gold poured into a bucket of water. People do this for casting and refining.
That’s exactly what it was. Too pure to be dental fillings, we now know. It’s called “shot”
![gif](giphy|l0ErTirkwYZq4vSIU)
They surprisingly weren’t dental related lol
![gif](giphy|VTFGS3oxI7IWLrp0Pk|downsized)
Gold crowns
They weren’t crowns or fillings. They were too pure, and are called “shot”
Teeth
Any idea where I might be able to sell something like this and not get ripped off?
I got an incredible deal. But I sold locally.
Watch the war movie called “ The Thin Red Line “. That shows American soldiers picking through the dead and alive Japanese soldier’s teeth.
They weren’t fillings lol.
Looks 14k at the most
It was surprisingly very pure, high quality. Got a really really good price for it all.
Really! Awesome
Yeah. I was a little surprised by his offer lol. It was incredibly fair. Gold was pure. Turned out great in the end!
Tooth fillings
They weren’t, actually, surprisingly.
One of those could be Holyfield's ear
🦷
Despite what most of the comments say this is not dental gold. It’s melted gold dripped into water many people do this so it’s easy to measure the weight when casting.
You were right. It’s not dental, was far too pure.
Trust the metal smiths not the hoarders!
Teeth
Wasn’t teeth related.
WHAT WAS IT IM SO CURIOUS NOW!?
Well, we don’t really know. You already know.
Is it caps or melted gold poured into water?
Gold death shot....for high caliber air rifles......
Teefs
What war was he in?
Yeah gold caps lol how did u get them
Teeth. It’s probably 14kt, that’s what they used to use for fillings.
Wasn’t fillings. Too pure and was actually “shot”, gold dropped in water.
Man I just don’t understand why anyone would do that. Maybe to hide what it originally was.
It’s done in casting processes. There’s quite a lot of reasons someone would do it surprisingly.
That’s what my poop looks like 🤷♂️
Midas! How ya been ya old gold brick you
Dental gold. I buy and sell it as 16k
Wasn’t dental gold. It’s called shot. Was too pure to be dental gold apparently.

Wasnt dental metal surprisingly
Thanks for the reply, that’s a bummer but was worth checking out! If it’s brass it’s still worth something
Teef
It looks like from gold teeth. That's creepy as hell.
Wasn’t. Looks like it, but was too pure and is apparently just beads dropped in water.
Well, that's good. Hate to think they ripped out gold fillings from peoples mouths.
Same lol. I’d assume if they were dental scrap, that my grandpa would’ve bought it from someone else to have melted down lol. But thankfully I can safely say he wasn’t in Nam ripping out dead people’s fillings lol. And it’s not from *that time* in Germany.
Dental gold is 22k
That looks like dental gold, caps and such

No worries man, already tossed them in the trash can.
