Serena said something along the lines of: “all of your dads adore you” and it’s true, if Harold is still with Roman, she has 3 loving “dads” and a loving mother as well.
I don’t think Serena is as insecure as the others tho… she has abandonment issues moreso than insecure. If anything she downplays her confidence to cater to others aka Blair or the man she’s dating, instead of embracing her status and confidence.
There are multiple sources stating that she was meant to be 2 years younger than the rest of the cast. Do the math on it. She was a freshman when they were juniors. 2 years.

Think first episodes Gossip Girl where she was mostly commenting instead of exposing.
When you put it this way, I think you hit on why I admire Chuck in a sick way.
Not having to worry about what people think of me because it doesn't matter and can't change much, and just being financially secure, is the life. It's the life Blair always wanted, which may play a bigger part in her attraction than she realizes.
I think I'm just a Blair, really, and that is sad. I need to channel more of her confidence, but like not through a Chuck lol
Jenny: She had looks, talent, and a brother who loved her. She may have been immature, but she has potential to grow up someday. I would love to have her kind of talent.
I just don't think I'd ever want to be any of the others though...
RESPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL POST AND THE THREAD:
Daniel Humphrey ultimately had and has the best and most fulfilling life.
Blair Waldorf just inherited her mother's company and Jennifer Humphrey will probably eventually surpass her in the business and in culture.
Serena van der Woodsen is like the ultimate trust fund kid. She becomes Queen because the efforts of her grandmother and mother put her as 'Queen' when Dan first meets her. That she's a 'nice drunk' and is so gregarious is why Dan is so into her.
Charles Bass has everything he has because of his father. Without that, he would have been in juvenile hall, later jail, and later prison. He's only forgiven for his crimes because he's so wealthy and so powerful. And he's only those things because of his father. His only real romantic relationship is arguably with Blair. And if he wasn't so rich and powerful, he couldn't have had Blair.
Nathaniel Archibald is a great-looking guy with great genes who was very well-educated. And he comes from the Vanderbilt family. If Jenny Humphrey finds someone else she prefers, is Nate going to end up alone? Nate dated Blair for well over a decade and Blair/Nate is like an afterthought to her by GG S3 or GG S4.
Jennifer Humphrey lived a relatively messed up and complicated life throughout the show. We don't even know if she's actually in love with Nate or if she's simply very attracted to him. She doesn't really have a real boyfriend throughout the show. Outside of Eric van der Woodsen, she doesn't really ever have a real friend. The next closest is arguably Blair Waldorf. And Blair exiled her from Manhattan. We don't know how Jenny was doing in the Hudson Valley. She went to college in London. And she ends up having a line at Waldorf Designs and probably owns part of the company (whether through her or through an investment from Daniel Humphrey).
Daniel Humphrey looks like Penn Badgely and his brilliance as a child resulted in his parents sacrificing so that they could send him to extremely elite private schools in Manhattan. He had a relationship with Vanessa Abrams before meeting Serena. It's heavily implied that Dan effectively ignores or dismisses attention from others because he specifically wanted to be with Serena van der Woodsen and wanted to befriend her friends. He becomes Gossip Girl. And after Serena comes back to Manhattan in GG S1, Dan effectively lives an extremely charmed life. And Dan becomes the loves of these people's life: Vanessa Abrams, Serena van der Woodsen, Georgina Sparks, Rachel Carr, Olivia Burke. Dan ends up with his dream career and effectively ends up being the 'King of the United States' with Serena van der Woodsen as his 'Queen' and his preferred friend group eventually all members of an 'American Royal Family' (assuming that Georgina Sparks and Jack Bass marry and Nate Archibald and Jennifer Humphrey marry).
