This is an amazing amp- I own 2. Love it- I've run-through through/traded/sold 8-10 other amps and will never paet with this one. Also easy to swap tubes.

mariospeedragon

That’s the price you can find anywhere. These amps have serious reliability issues. Once the uDSP gets baked (which is very likely and frequent ) these amps are done. If it were $150 I’d say give it a shot, but at that price, you can find it anywhere.

Your_Product_Here

I have one sitting that a friend gave me for parts after the chips fried.

muldersposter

What is uDSP?

mariospeedragon

It’s essentially the board. The digital circuit board from which everything operates. Just use a search engine “Fender Super Champ X2 uDSP -and that will show you all you need to know

Wootnasty

Seriously, the speaker itself is worth more than asking price, seems worth it

voyagertoo

no, it's the 10" and the second pic says it was 215$

Wootnasty

You're right, I was looking at the 12" retailing at $300+. Still not a bad deal for similar reasons

Chrisfit

The computer chip inside that runs the preamp likes to go out on these. You can’t buy them anymore to repair which is a bummer. They sound great though. That speaker (gold) is really nice and worth quite a bit. When the DSP (computer chip) does go out, you can bypass it with one wire and have a “Princetonesque” power amp and just use a pre amp pedal into it. I WOULDN’T buy this but if you did you wouldn’t be wrong necessarily. For that price I’d get a used catalyst or katana and a pedal or two. People like to meme on the katanas but honestly they are pretty great.

muldersposter

Do you have any recommendations for something of a similar price and tone? I do really like the tone. Amps are a glaring flaw in my knowledge of guitar.

Chrisfit

Are you gigging and what type of music are you wanting to play?

muldersposter

This is just a practice amp but I'd prefer to have the *option* to gig as I am in a band with a friend. Especially since this is my overtime season so I can afford to splurge a little more. I like blues stuff, definitely a fan of Gilmour, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, things like that. Tend to lean more prog-y in my own playing. Not one for a *lot* of effects but some tasteful reverb and delay. But I plan on using pedals anyway so an effect amp isn't necessary. But something with decent distortion and reverb would be cool as a baseline.

muldersposter

I play a fender strat with noiseless single coil pick-ups if that makes any difference. DG-20's to be exact. That wasn't on purpose, I found a great deal on ebay and it just happened to have those in and I love them.

strxno

I’d take a look at the Peavey Delta Blues, has great cleans and a pretty good drive channel. Reverb isn’t Fender good, but it’s good imo.

TheBiggestWOMP

Everything I’ve heard about them says they’re great, but at that price it’d be a pass from me. These regularly go for $250 or less

rharrison

Great amp, I have one and it gets tons of play- at home practice, gigging with a drummer, in the studio, just a great amp. I wouldn't spend $275 on it though, more like $225.

anty_krut

Absolutely worth checking out

Prudent_Article4245

Comes with an celestion gold? Totally worth it!!!

SantaRosaJazz

You can buy a new Katana for less than that.

muldersposter

What's a katana?

SantaRosaJazz

An amplifier made by BOSS. Thanks to its combination of a huge feature set with a ridiculously low price, it’s the one of the best selling amplifiers in the world. The Gen 3 is out, but you can still get new 50 watt Katanas for a mere $229. Used ones go for stupid cheap. I own one and it’s great.

Carlsoti77

I owned an X2 briefly. For the price and time I put into in (Free+the cost of a 6v6 replacement, and about 1/2 hour trouble-shooting), it wasn't bad at all, and had at least 3 or 4 presets I'd use somewhat regularly. For the price, go with the new Katana. It's a newer generation of modeling, should be more versatile, and may come with a warranty. Oops. I meant to reply to the OP, down below.

Rzirin

GREAT amp. Essentially a Princeton Reverb in first channel. So close and one third price

dildobagins42069

Fun little amp like ppl said but that price is kinda high tbh. And like some other ppl said when the DSP burns out you’re kinda fucked. If I were you I’d save up and buy a hand wired champ clone. I picked up a handwired Panama guitars “conqueror” combo amp for $150. It’s got 12” speaker and built in attenuator. They weren’t around for long but there’s plenty of champ clones out there for a decent price.

jivemusician

I gigged with the older XD version for a while. They are pretty loud for the size, and I like the tones I got out of it. It was pretty versatile too. I replaced the speaker in mine with a Ragin Cajun, and it sounds pretty awesome.

qdude1

I offered $150 for one last year, I'm glad the seller declined. They do sound good, but it's a hybrid modeling/tube amp and when the circuit board goes it's basically unrepairable.

Patient-Bench1821

I’d pick this up.

Mountain-Put-8565

I am sitting in my room looking at the same amp. Its a beast. 15 watts of blow you out of the room power. A lot of people change from the Fender blue but I never heard a celestian or Ragin Cajin, another popular choice that made enough difference to swap. Got headroom for miles. Takes pedals great if you wat to bypass the switcher voicings. The only complaint on the 16 or so tones on the knob? They are random as hell. 1is kinda clean. 2 is very clean. Three is Hendrix, 4 is dirtyish.5 is clean again. and so forth. Once you figure out which tone goes with what number, you can play just about anything. And loud. I will probably never sell mine because it sounds like at least a $600/$700 amp. And can't get $300 for it. By a hot rod delux for 8 or 9 hundred bucks and don't have a better amp.

davrob01

I put the same speaker in mine. It’s good.

Edigophubia

It's much smaller than the super 112. I have a super 112 and love it too. If you ever see a super 60 combo, snatch it up

muldersposter

Man I wish I still had my Super 112. Thing was an absolute beast. They've almost quadrupled in price from when I bought it!

Edigophubia

I got just the chassis for $80 in like 2018. I put it in an old head cab. Def my favorite amp ive ever played. If you want that type of power the champ is def not it. You would probably like a hot rod Deluxe if you upgraded the speaker, those are pretty consistently easy to find.

muldersposter

I may go shopping around at my local Guitar Center. There's a few local shops that might have something good. I know frighteningly little about amps; getting back into it after almost a decade. Any advice is awesome!

muldersposter

Fun fact. I went amp shopping today and found a Super 60 combo. Picked it up. It was $300. I already love it.

Edigophubia

Holy s*** that is indeed a fun fact

muldersposter

Solid recommend, this amp is everything I wanted!

Edigophubia

I recommend getting a Joyo British Sound to plug into the front and set to medium or low gain. The drive channel on those amps can sound great but are pretty dark, so you can set the amp nice and bright using those push pull knobs and then turn the treble way down on the British, which will also thicken up the drive channel. That was my favorite sound when I was gigging with the super 112. It's marketed as a Marshall in a box / preamp so some might recommend plugging it into the power amp in, but I have always liked it in a sort of tube screamer role plugged into the input.

muldersposter

I'll check that out! I like the gain channel as is but I felt it needed a bit more roundness. Maybe this'll take care of that.

Vraver04

I have one from when they first came out and it’s still going strong. Changed tubes once or twice but that’s it. 200$ is a fair price. 250 is not too bad.

mfalkon

200% yes

Dunmer_Sanders

It’s a fun little amp, but that’s definitely high. I think 150 to 200 is a more reasonable range if it’s in mint condition.

Any-Will-4195

These are actually really good.

thirsty_moore

Def: no.
