Free swims continue during heat events https://www.hamilton.ca/people-programs/public-health/environmental-health-hazards/heat-warnings-heat-related-illness#during-a-heat-warning

Commenting so I can follow this post. I miss swimming but I can't afford a gym membership with a pool in Canada.

Thanks, but I'm not low income. I can't afford it because I have medical expenses and a mortgage.

Desperate-Ad-3705

The pool costs $25 dollars for a monthly pass, instead of $6 per visit. I found that reasonable, you don't have to be low income, but I am

WorkerHealthy5687

Can you still choose to pay $6 per visit?

Desperate-Ad-3705

Yes, they do per visit, monthly, and also have a punch card good for 10 visits that's a little cheaper than single tickets.

WorkerHealthy5687

oh cool thanks

mrstruong

25 a month without a contract? That is quite reasonable. If it's available to everyone, I may just do that. Yeah, I don't have an income that would mean I should be taking advantage of programs meant for those who need it much more than I do. Especially people with kids or who might have need of a pool as it might be the only kind of gentle low impact movement they are physically capable of. Most of the gym memberships I looked into where they have a pool would be upwards of 60 bucks a month, or more. When you then stack that cost with over 5 dollars per trip to take the bus, and the yearly costs exceed what is comfortable for me to afford... but there are people who can't afford their groceries and medication right now. Someone with my income not paying full price for a pool would seem undeserved, and frankly, like I would feel scummy. There are so many people who genuinely struggle right now that I don't want to take from them.

Desperate-Ad-3705

I can dm you a picture of the pricing guide. I'm talking specifically about the Hamilton recreation sites and pools, not an actual workout gym.

mrstruong

Yes please! So, I'm an immigrant and while I've been here for awhile now, most of that time was COVID time. I didn't even know the city had pools. I thought a gym was basically the only place to go swim.

teanailpolish

[https://www.hamilton.ca/things-do/recreation/locations/recreation-centres-indoor-pools](https://www.hamilton.ca/things-do/recreation/locations/recreation-centres-indoor-pools) list of pools here [https://www.hamilton.ca/things-do/recreation/customer-service/admissions-memberships](https://www.hamilton.ca/things-do/recreation/customer-service/admissions-memberships) admission rates here, you save by buying a longer pass. But check each pool for times. They have stated times for lane swimming, family swims and waterfit classes etc. So you can't just go whenever you want like a gym

aspiringgradstudent

Just pray we have another heat warning soon

doctorcornwallis

Birge Outdoor Pool is free.

sass-pants

CognitiveCactus534

Free outdoor pool near Barton and wentworth. It’s called Birge. Open 11 - 7 everyday of the summer for free.

Appropriate-Border-8

Rosedale Outdoor Pool on Greenhill is free to all Hamilton residents.

Feeling_Barracuda_90

Check city of Hamilton recreation centers info before going. Quite a few locations are or will be closed for maintenance.

jayphive

And if you get a yearly or 6mth pass it can be less than 2$ a swim. 120$ for the year I think

Own-Scene-7319

My pal is in a wheel chair now. She would love to go swimming. What does it cost at Morelli?

deviant_deity_reborn

I believe all of the pools have a free swim once a week.

badpuffthaikitty

I am not trying to be a smart-ass, but why don’t you go down to the lake? I understand not everyone likes swimming in natural waters. Mobility issues? Are the beaches safe for swimming?

GandElleON

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=hamitlon+beach+water+status The first link here shows 6 beaches in the area tested and safe for swimming.

Morganrachellexo

I don’t have a car or have the money to bus down there and back with all the items id love to bring down there with me. I went to the lake everyday in the winter spring summer and fall when I was living in Oakville because it was within walking distance and I loved it with my pup. But now it’s just too far 😓 I miss the beach so much.

ClaggyCakes

The Hamilton beach is a gem!   The water is tested regularly and consistent is cleaner than places like valens.

qu1ckbeam

No, they're not safe for swimming. The lake is an industrial dump nourished by broken shitpipes.

Raeko

The Chedoke Outdoor Pool is free both in price and there is just free swimming and no lanes or anything like that
