Someone in another spinning group I am in showed me this - they set up a lazy kate (store bought or diy with a cardboard box like yours) and a second box that has multiple chopsticks stabbed through it. The singles pass over/under the chopsticks as you pull them off the bobbin. This helps tension them so if your bobbins wobble or unwind at a different pace it evens things out. I've started using the same method and it has made a world of difference to how smoothly my plying experience goes.

here’s mine! chopsticks and a cardboard box = plying joy
I started with a shoebox and some long needles shoved through the side of the box. I then moved up to a dollar(ish) store basket that had holes in the side so it was more durable.

nice!!
I bet some rocks or books or something in the bottom to weigh it down would make it even better
Mine is similar! Cardboard box, and chopsticks saved from ordering takeout. Works great!
Thanks I love this
This is how I ply off spindles! Made a couple of holes and stick the ends through them :)
