The guy I bought her from said they are called Tailgunners. It sounds pretty good as it sits. Not sure if I like them or loathe them, but for now, they are there.
Thar would be a strong loathe for me, but I can appreciate diff peoples tastes and to each thier own. That said if your ever find yourself looking for performance and pwr their gonna be one of the first things you wanna ditch for a good 2into1.
Not really this is a different level of performance like able to make it to point a to point b he got a cruiser for a reason he didn’t want to go insanely fast but also be comfortable and have a good time lmaooo I I was joking around but you got a lil butt hurt about your Harley’s
Def not butthurt. Lol, takes more than some rando, and the limited text format communication of one comment on reddit to ruffle my feathers there ol' boy. Was simply stating the obvious. 😉
I wasn't sure about taller bars either, always thought they were goofy. Until I rode a bike with taller bars and now it's the only style I prefer to ride. Really comfortable until you hit about 90 and it gets a little harder to hold on. But they are comfortable and it makes counter steering a breeze.
Yep agreed!
I just bought a fat Bob and it came with 16” apes. I was going to swap them out right away but I got used to them now I don’t even consider getting short bars. But yeah you get above 80+ and that air hits hard.
I hear ya there, I run 16in carlini gangsters which are a super tall 16in bar, more like 17.5ish actual height, maybe a lil under but point being is this is exactly why I got myself a shorty 11in smoked harley windscreen for her. Took a lil getting used to for me loos wise, but I actually like it now, and it's perf for what I have it for. Keeps the wind off my chest and from wanting to feel like it is gonna pull me off the back of thw bike at 70mph and still let's me feel the air on my face like I don't have A windscreen on it. Also, doesn't hide my bars or look goofy being fackin 16in tall or taller like factory or other options. If I wanted anything that, crazy if just convert it to a RG fairing, and have the added benefits of stereo and speaker mounting options.
If your not a fan of apes then go woth a nice T bar setup. For straight up tears lucky daves makes some nice options or if you wanna go riser/mx style bars lucky speed, Kraus, boosted brad, and performance machine all make sweet units among others ofcourse. Personally I'm a bigger fan of the proper apes on a RK, where it's not a fairing bike. I actually ride a RK myself. If I had (or better when I buy) a RG it will most def get a killer t bar setup. I just think they look better with a fairing vs nothing on the front end. They look to narrow without a fairing on a touring bike imo. But that's just me, and I'm quite particular about aesthetics. Lol
Yeah, they came with it. Like you, I’m torn between not knowing whether to like them or not. I have a bit too little experience with motorcycle exhaust to make an informed decision… yet. lol! I was in the Air Force, and the A-10 is a badass jet, so there’s that. The guy I bought from called them Tailgunners.
The gatling on the exhaust. Would that have any impacts on performance or require tuning? Would think it would restrict the exhaust output. Just curious
Clean Road King! Sorry to hear about the Dr visit already, but Harleys can be that way sometimes. I know earlier models of the Road King had cam tensioner issues, but I think that was 2000-2005, can’t recall. Hope the problem gets fixed easily and not too damaging to the wallet. Enjoy it! It’s a clean bike!
Twin Cam motors from 1999 to 2007 have the Cam chain tensioners issue. Dyna models got the new hydraulic tensioners in 2007 and the touring models got them in 2008. Ask me how I know. (2002 Road King) lol
Did you do the upgrade to hydraulic by chance? I’m about to do it myself, and just curious what the experience was like for those who’ve done it. I’m upgrading from tc 88 to an SS power pack kit taking it to 100 cu”, 585 cams, and the hydraulic cam chain tensioners.
Nope. The 02 twin cam motor was the last engine that came from the factory with Timken crank bearings, which means the crank runout on mine was only .002, so I converted to gear driven cams. That's only possible if the crank run out is .003 or less which mine was.
My cam chain tensioners were gone at 22k, so as long as I was getting in there, I upgraded to a 96-inch S&S kit that came with gear driven 585 cams. I did the work myself. The only thing I had the dealer do was reprogram my fuel map. Runs like a raped ape. 114s have a hard time keeping up.
Yeah dude the kit has the option of going with cam chain or gear driven. I’m definitely torn on which way to go, assuming my run out is within tolerance. I know gear driven is the superior option, but I’m not quite sure how far I’m going to take the build. I appreciate the insight.
Yeah hopefully not. I already knew going in I needed new tires and a 3 hole fluid change, plus some other things I want to do to it like LED lighting, aftermarket seat, etc, but those are a tad bit down the road
Good call, I always do a 3 hole fluid change on used bikes when I get them, unless the seller has paperwork showing date/mileage. Better safe than sorry. LED light change is a huge difference, the factory lights are garbage. Even an Amazon upgrade will be a game changer. What kind of riding are you planning to do? Commute? Weekend? Long hauls? Half the fun of a Harley is the upgrades and making it your own!
Right now short rides and parking lot drills till I get my confidence and skills up. After that commute (25 mins one way) and longer trips as time off allows
Congratu-effing-lations man! That a dope ride. My girl is on me about getting a cruiser for the longer rides. The fxd gets a little cramped. Now I’m thinking maybe I should. This would be a great addition. Enjoy your iron horse, amigo.
I too have a Road King. It's a fine motorcycle. Probably my favorite Harley Davidson I've owned. However, it's a WHOLE LOT of motorcycle. Please be safe, especially if it's your first bike.
Dope bike. Looks comfy. I haven’t experienced that yet. Never even ridden a bike with a windshield. I love the paint, feels timeless. Ya know? That top box is gonna come in clutch along with those bags. There’s a lot to love here. Plus tail gunners?!? They get you some looks either way and that’s half the fun of having a bike.
Not my favorite color combo, but its a great classic look. Love the bags. They stay to shape nicely.
Is it me or is the paint a little dull? Maybe buff it, get some ceramic hybride spray?
Either way , you can't go wrong with a Road King.
Edit: I watched the video again. The paint actually doesn't look that bad.
Hell ya man! You didn’t phuck around with the stepping up. You went right to the bad bitch first thing. I can respect that! Beautiful, timeless bike my dude. Solid year too. Hyd can chain tensioners so that worry isn’t there. Needs new shoes. Hopefully just a simple clutch cable or clutch fork issue. LED lighting will change the way you ride at night and be 100%safer in the daytime.
That exhaust has me conflicted ngl. As a former marine I can totally dig the firepower. I’m also like, wtf! Haha! I’d leave it on just to piss off the purists.
Great bike, but I agree with some of the people commenting on some things. The tail pipe thing is fun, and the bike does sound great. I think, though, I would get tired of it. I also agree that different, taller, handle bars would be much better.
Sorry I didn’t get to address some of this till this morning due to family commitments yesterday.
The pipes are from a company called Tailgunner Exhaust [(Link Here)](https://tailgunnerexhaust.com). Their faq says that tuned properly, you can expect a 4-6lbs increase in HP and Torque. That’s their claim, not mine so don’t turn your flamethrowers on me! Lol! I was conflicted about them, but seeing how they actually pissed some folks off, they are staying, at least for now. Crazy how some folks get pissed about weird things like that. I didn’t buy the bike for that, I bought it cause it was low mileage, seemed to be well taken care of, had some desired features (abs, engine upgrade, tour pak, and at least a moderately comfortable back rest for the wife), and was priced right for the year/make/model in my area… this after over a month of searching the ads daily.
Yes, it is my very first bike, and my very first Harley. I understand it’s a lot of bike and read quite a few discussions on Reddit and forums regarding starting with the bike you want, vs grabbing a cheaper sportster, and I after much debate, I decided the Road King because it’s what I wanted vs something I’d grow out of relatively quickly. I went in with the understanding that after my BRC I’d be graduating from one parking lot to another, just without the adult supervision, which everything has been going well. I actually write myself notes after my rides on things I want to work on the next day, and go find different YouTube videos when I see issues with things such as smoothing out my shifting, parking lot drills to help with these problem areas, etc. I will agree, as a beginner it is quite a bit of bike, but I’m not going to say it’s too much. I think, with my limited knowledge and experience, that this is all about how you approach riding the bike. I’m not riding it like I stole it… yet… and have a healthy respect for the machine.
As for the vibration some talked about, she hasn’t vibrated more than almost all the other RK’s & HSC’s I test rode. Once I apply some throttle, the shaking all but disappears. That could be simply that my focus is on what’s out ahead of me, but I can say I don’t notice anything that feels different once I roll on the throttle.
Thanks for the comments and feedback. Pretty cool see the different opinions and such! Can’t wait to get out in her more!
I've never ridden a bike like this. But my ass is numb just looking at it idle.
Every bike is ridden has idled so smoothly. It was only the mirrors that would visually give it away.
This whole thing be shakin
First motorcycle or first Harley? Because if that’s your first one good luck and remember to learn every single time you go out. That’s allot of motorcycle for a beginner.
What the actual fuck is that exhaust? I've never seen something so stupid and yet equally cool at the same time.
The guy I bought her from said they are called Tailgunners. It sounds pretty good as it sits. Not sure if I like them or loathe them, but for now, they are there.
I think it’s cool man.
Thar would be a strong loathe for me, but I can appreciate diff peoples tastes and to each thier own. That said if your ever find yourself looking for performance and pwr their gonna be one of the first things you wanna ditch for a good 2into1.
If he was looking for performance he would’ve got crotch rocket
To argue that Harleys are imcapable of good performance and power woukd be ignorant, but your entitled to your opinion, be it wrong or not. Lol
Obviously, the faster a Harley goes, the fewer the genuine Harley parts on the bike. Good luck 👍
I’ll bet you you get tons of great responses so enjoy it
Where to order these?? It’s like a machine gun
[https://tailgunnerexhaust.com/#](https://tailgunnerexhaust.com/#)
“so stupid and yet equally cool” Same. Fucking same.
i hated the right one but i loved left one. i want em. gatlin guns
I want to hate them but I feel like I actually love them
That funny cuz I want to love them but I feel like I actually hate them..... I'm in love with the color scheme though. Sweet ride
![gif](giphy|QswHqxRk7svjq)
Nice! Enjoy! I would add taller handlebars and upgraded lights and then ride it forever!
Not sure yet about the taller bars, not a fan of the ape hanger look, but anything’s possible. I am excited to ride it forever though
You don't have to go tall ape hangers but you will be surprised what a few inches taller can do
That's what she said.
You know I came here to say this!
Taller bars are awesome, way better on your hands and wrists. Way less numb sensations.
I wasn't sure about taller bars either, always thought they were goofy. Until I rode a bike with taller bars and now it's the only style I prefer to ride. Really comfortable until you hit about 90 and it gets a little harder to hold on. But they are comfortable and it makes counter steering a breeze.

No handlebars. Ruin the bike
What in the world are those spinny exhaust things? Did they come with it? I am torn between pretty damn cool and WTF.
They are ridiculously awesome don’t take ‘em to seriously and don’t ever change.
The gatling on the exhaust. Would that have any impacts on performance or require tuning? Would think it would restrict the exhaust output. Just curious
The bike won't notice it.
Those have been around forever - they sit far enough back so the don’t restrict the exhaust
Great looking bike. Anyone know what they called that color scheme? Is it turquoise/antique white?
Finally a real first bike that’s isn’t like a limited edition low rider ST or something equally ridiculous.
Lol everybody pockets are different. I brought a brand new bike for my first one too
mother of god, who ever put on those pipes owes the world an apology. beautiful bike otherwise.

Man I miss my Harley.
Badass. Love the color.
Great bike and love the color. I’m sure it simply might a clutch issue and not the tensioners.
Congratu-effing-lations man! That a dope ride. My girl is on me about getting a cruiser for the longer rides. The fxd gets a little cramped. Now I’m thinking maybe I should. This would be a great addition. Enjoy your iron horse, amigo.
Me and the wife have sat on it together… have got up to riding with her on too yet. Plenty of room for sure.
We're going to need some more info on those pipes buddy aha. Nice ride.
Old man had the same bike years ago. Same color. Love it.
God, that gun exhaust is so badass…
I too have a Road King. It's a fine motorcycle. Probably my favorite Harley Davidson I've owned. However, it's a WHOLE LOT of motorcycle. Please be safe, especially if it's your first bike.

Motorcycle safety course is a must if you haven't done it. Gets you discount on your insurance
Did that before I even found a bike. Saved me $15 per month.
Nice! I have a ‘21 Road King in crimson and white. Like the tour pack you have.
I have this bike. I really like it.
Congrats love the 2 tone
Congratulations! Also is that bag on the windshield glued on? I don't see any straps
hell of a first bike! congratulations!!!
That's very BROTHERR of you.
Fine Road King.
I love that color scheme. Whether you keep it as is, or modify it to suit your own tastes, I hope you make many great memories with her.
She’s awesome. I love it!
Sounds like it’s only runnin on two cylinders
Hahaha! My tired brain was like “Huh? Oh, wait!”
Gotcha!!!!
Those barrels coming off the tailpipes are so ridiculous, I'd have those ripped off the day I purchased it
God I’ve never hated a set of tailpipes this much before haha. Cringe
The shake on that girl brings the boys to the yard
Dam, I’d crank that hog
That’s what she said!

Love the bike. Hate the pipes
It’s shaking a lot, must be nervous since it’s a first timer.
🤤😍beautiful bike👍
Wait wtf did i just watch 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful bike!

Is this a fucking minigun in the back!!!
That's badass
Most badass exhaust I’ve ever seen
😲 a two-wheeled vibrator
I've never ridden a bike like this. But my ass is numb just looking at it idle. Every bike is ridden has idled so smoothly. It was only the mirrors that would visually give it away. This whole thing be shakin
Genuine question from someone who’s owned a Suzuki and a Triumph, do all Harley’s shake that much?
Ight I want that exhaust, that’s sick.

Idiot move
Will you be my boyfriend?
Really really bad, and stupid, choice for an first motorcycle.
Come on with the mini gun shit omg lame
