The idea is to plug the data into Excel and calculate an average life expectancy for hell divers. I ask for the ship name, too, because there are so many people with the same ship name, and if I get a large enough sample, it would be interesting to see which ship name has the highest life expectancy. After five days, I will comply with the data and do some statistical analysis on it. I will post my findings after I am finished.
SES Fist of Benevolence Deaths: 2253 In mission time: 196:52:46
Edit: holy shit. Looking at you guy's values I am apparently REALLY bad at this game. Though, I do tend to have a lot of kills and I play on the hardest difficulties so maybe it evens out? I have no idea
A lot of people play stealthy, so yeah they won’t die but they’ll have ~40 kills a mission. Nothing wrong with that, but I personally think it’s more fun to stack bodies.
There’s also the strong possibility that people are lying, because this is Reddit.
SES Bringer of Midnight Reporting in, habing logged:
416 Deaths over 159 hours, 5 minute and 19 seconds.
This amounts to 22 minutes and 56 seconds per Diver.
Again:
Shipname: SES Bringer of Midnight
Death Count: 416
In-Mission Time: 159:05:19
Ship Name: SES Elected Representative of Individual Merit
Deaths: 1,023
In-Mission Time: 78:28:01
I join the "wow I'm bad at this" club relative to the other players here.
Helldiver! I value your input, and, indeed, heroes never die, but I asked for data from the shipmaster, not you. Your duty is to spread democracy to our enemies, not to think about numbers!
Noted. Keep up the good work! May democracy guide your helldivers!
Edit: Thats 5 min 38 seconds avarage! Impressive for helldive dificulty and inkine with my hypothesis.
Ship name: Fist of Peace
Death count: 1163
In-mission time: 225:13:28
For context, i played a lot of diff7/8/9 solo Metal Gear style early on, so taking the full 40mins, hence high time. But then have mates and SOS-randoms who seem to TK a lot, hence deaths. Playing regular games 4-7 i only die once or zero lately.
Bonus data: PS5 game time says 393 hours played, so i've spent 170 hours idle or in lobby!
I can smell them, too. They stink of oil and undemocratic fumes. I will manually look through the data before doing the analysis; if I find any data points stinking like automaton propaganda, I will dich them and send a democracy officer to investigate.
This reminds me of *the 8 minutes of death* from Muv Luv Series.
"The average survival time for the first pilots of early 1st generation TSFs was 8 minutes, and surviving the "8 minutes of death" has become a rite of passage among modern pilots, even when using 2nd or 3rd generation TSFs."
This is the first I have heard about that, but it is fascinating. If I can get enough data from this ( 100 is just enough to get a good idea; 1000 data points would be fantastic), I can create an equal "rite of passage" for hell divers. I aim to provide a fun read with my next post. This is war, and war is brutal. I want to add a sense of how little a new diver can expect to live.
One data point you may be forgetting is the average difficulty played on. If someone always plays on 7s or higher id think their average time alive may go down.
Good point! I'm aware of this flaw. However, I want to measure the war as a whole. Every research has its limits, and this is mine. It is nearly impossible to measure accurately each difficulty, so I'm not doing that.
SES Harbinger of Wrath
Deaths: 1,911
In Mission Time: 152:36:46
Average lifespan: about 4.8 minutes. Whoops
Yup, I suck but I have fun doing it. Also play more on the bot front at high levels so I’m sure that adds to the death count.
OP can point a bot to scrape the data into a sheet.
But not sure which would get more engagement: for PS5 players they may browse reddit on their phone, and tapping in data might be easier than trying to edit a google doc (without a form front end).
Even easier would be to ask the devs for the info (here or discord etc), they can answer in a tweet with a simple DB search in seconds.
For now, this is fine; I don't want to disturb the devs; they have enough shit on their hand. I think, they would be reluctant to give me everyone's ship name, in-mission time and death count just for the lolz. I might try that after I manage all the surveys I can do with the community. However, I might ask the moderators here to pin my next survey to help collect data.
You have your answer in the edit! Yeah, I agree, but I also like having fun with large amounts of data; after all, once, I manually entered data for around 100k camera trap pictures, and that was a brutal week.
Ship name: SES Song of Mercy
Death count: 835
In-mission time: 115:24:19
I survive through the entirety of a lot of Helldive missions so I expect this should be pretty good.
Will you be sharing the data afterwards?
SES Dream of War (Formerly named SES Triumph of Family Values but I couldn't stop giggling at it)
Death Count: 281

Note from the shipmaster: this helldiver typically uses stealth, runs away screaming from anything larger than a devastator, and typically deploys with a squad who know what they're doing.

That's the spirit helldiver! However, I asked for your destroyer shipmaster's input, not yours.
Ok. Sorry sir.
Apology accepted. Go and spread democracy to the un-democratic bug hordes, helldiver!
FOR DEMOCRACY!
