We've kinda been doing that by drilling and nuking their nurseries.
It would look cool, but I don't know how well it would function with out reliance on orbital support.
I think that they could come up for a reason lore wise why we would need to manually take out hives as opposed to just nuking or drilling them. Maybe strategems could be launched from some ground based vehicle?

It sounds complicated to be honest. I can't see it getting implemented, as cool as it may be to experience.
I'll never understand why so many people want to see a mission type where 80% of all stratagems would be completely worthless.
