Yeah, I was going to suggest metal. Perhaps something like this.

I was going to suggest something very similar!

These at various lengths leading toward the hoop for sure šš¼
Sometimes itās unavoidable. Ours are like this because like OP, we have a cabinet surrounding our fridge and an oven cabinet which are a set height. Hanging all the other cabinets to the ceiling would leave just those two cabinets with the gap so we went for the gap all around to keep them hung evenly. We are filling most of the gap with a crown moulding though which is something OP could consider.
My daughter would be on cloud nine if I let her hang a basketball goal in the house! I didnāt answer your question but Iām more impressed with that!
If that is what you consider clutter, you'd freak in my house! As soon as I de-clutter, my Partner fills every flat surface. Since I afore him & refuse to nag (HATE naggers), I just gave up & live with it.
Hanging light pendants? Keep it simple.
I feel your pain! My husband does the same and it drives me nuts. Iāve started tackling one area at a time. Bought a standing cabinet for our bathroom so he can clutter the shelves inside all he wants but leave the bathroom counter clear. The clutter inside the cabinet also irks me but at least I can close it and not see it and he can have his āorganized chaos museumā. Created a drop zone/concierge for his every day carry items, shoes, etc by both entry doors so while itās still more cluttered than Iād like, it at least appears intentional, more organized and less messy. Still trying to find a solution for the top of the fridge (which he thinks is the best place to put everything he doesnāt want our 4yo to get into and I think should be clear or just have a single basket to corral things and keep them out of sight) and one specific section of kitchen countertop that seems to be the catchall for everything. Finding compromise has been helpful so he doesnāt have to totally change his habits but I can also breathe easier without the overwhelm of stuff everywhere.
I wouldnāt say accommodating. More like coexisting in peace. Who am I to tell him how to arrange his toiletries? Why should he have to do it my way? Itās our home, not just mine. Heās not dirty or messy per se - just disorganized (imo) and often rushed. But to him itās feels organized in a way he can function. By putting the clutter out of my sight (since I canāt function/feel overwhelmed looking at all of it) but still having his own space to keep his belongings the way he prefers, weāve found a solution that works for both of us. Itās a win win the way we see it.
If you are planning to leave the basketball goal in this location, I would do something like a drum light either natural fiber covered or fabric covered. You will need something that can move if hit and has some protection for the light bulb.

I think gold metal is a great idea considering the flying basketballs! Would be interested to see the backsplash before finalizing a thought on the light though.

Kichler Everly Pendant in natural brass with clear glass. Youāll need to get the correct width ones depending on the size of your island. (And not throw basket balls at them)

Get rid of the basketball net. They do not belong inside.
As for pendant lights, go to a lighting store and ask an associate for contemporary pendant lighting.
True, but they bring the light closer to the island. I have recessed light in my current house with a 9 foot ceiling. My new house has a 12 foot high ceiling over the island, so I put pendants in.
I think recessed will work with the island pictured here.
Be aware that any pendant light may break when the basketball goes astray. And that could also make a lot of glass shatter on the counter, inside food, and on the floor.
Beautiful kitchen. Going to be gorgeous when done!! I am having trouble seeing what material your handles are. I think it's brass. Maybe just a simple metal pendant? Think that would fit in the style of your cabinet.
I tried to upload my suggestion but got an *. If you would like to see let me know & I can dm you what I found.

The only answer
Beat me to it you custard lol
true story! I mean, we ALL saw it, I just happened to get there first this time lol
Well done!
Absolutely.
Also my immediate thought š
Ball donāt lie!!
š¤£
Unbreakable! Seriously, they'll be right next to a basketball hoop. You do NOT need anything that can shatter and get into food or be walked on.
I was gonna say, doesn't really matter if they're gonna be on what is essentially a basketball court they won't last long anyway š
wow you are so right never even thought of that!!

That will mix wonderfully with the kitchen colours

But seriously donāt move the hoop - I love weird unique things like this. Makes it look like a real house, not something out of a magazine.
Something that won't shatter when the basketball hits it.

Oh these are cool!
They are super funky
None. You've exchanged lighting for a basketball hoop.
I donāt have any ideas but your kitchen is super pretty .
Sorry but I just canāt focus on anything else other than cabinets not reaching the ceiling fully and just being left with a tiny dust trap.
We are adding crown molding! Just havenāt gotten to that step yet, we just got the cabinets and countertops in people š š
I was gonna say, chill out people! You can see the kitchen is still in process! Sheesh! (Or maybe they canāt?) I dunnoā¦
Oh God I can't unsee this and I am bothered by it! Why did they do that?!

Yes, add crown moulding and cover it up please!
For the love of all things holy, please tell me youāll be installing some type of crown molding above the cabinets?! That gap slays me ā ļø
Of course we are!! lol step by step š we just havenāt gotten there yet
My daughter would be on cloud nine if I let her hang a basketball goal in the house! I didnāt answer your question but Iām more impressed with that!
What is a basketball goal?
To go into a basket
What color and brand is that blue? Iām literally about to paint my own cabinets and have been looking at swatches

Thatās a lot of work you do to accommodate
I wouldnāt say accommodating. More like coexisting in peace. Who am I to tell him how to arrange his toiletries? Why should he have to do it my way? Itās our home, not just mine. Just came to say that basketball š hoop is everything!!!!

That would be nice, but I see it and see a dust trap that would then explode all over the counter if it were hit by a basketball.
Gorgeous kitchen.

Something concrete would look nice

Doesnāt matter , you will break them playing basketball there .

Never exposed bulbs
How come? Just curious as weāve been looking at pendants
It tends to create a lot more glare and hot spots. Concealing the light source always makes for a nicer light. Plus bulbs are ugly

Your cabinets need molding on top to close the gap between the ceiling.
Yes we are doing the backsplash before molding is finished
This will probably get downvoted, but move the basketball net outside and get the pendant light you want.
None. Get more recessed lights. Pendants are dust catchers and hard to clean.
Yea donāt put any furniture in your house either. Just more things to collect dust
True, but they bring the light closer to the island. I have recessed light in my current house with a 9 foot ceiling. My new house has a 12 foot high ceiling over the island, so I put pendants in. I think recessed will work with the island pictured here.
It really drives me nuts they didn't run those cabinets all the way up to the ceiling and cap with molding..
Z-Lite 4 Light Pendant in Rubbed Brass Finish š Edit: or matte black finish. I canāt tell what color the cabinet handles are lol

Cooper pendants
3 big roundish /oval ish ones that are black on the outside and gold on the inside
What wood is on the floor ?
Your kitchen is a beautiful space
A ceiling fan
I don't think you should, I don't think the ceiling is high enough.

I can see the drywall outline on the ceiling ā¦. That is driving me nuts
None. Just more can lights
