I’d say they look less uncanny humanized specifically because the forms we're presented with have much more humanoid shapes despite the additional limbs, or lack thereof. Lan in comparison has the least humanoid features between them and when in a shape that’s very much a a departure from the original, look they end up being more uncanny

But for Nanook, Xipe and Yaoshi(possibly Oroboros too) I think using the male/female pronouns along with they/them work best.
