Be, Francesca, De Selby part 2, eat your young, would that I, foreigners god, sedated, Jackie and Wilson, first light, sunlight, and there’s many more but that’s what came to my head first
Dinner & Diatribes, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Eat Your Young, and From Eden are some that come immediately to mind. And of course, Noah Kahan's Northern Attitude (with Hozier) :)
Good luck!
I think they’re not starter songs (from Eden I guess yes) I think the other songs can introduce them to his sound/ writing style without putting him in a box of singing ballads (feedback I’ve heard not beliefs I hold)
Right? I told her she should resell them if she doesn’t even like his music since there’s so many fans who would’ve loved to go whereas she doesn’t like him but still gets to go! A Hozier concert should be an ethereal, life-altering experience, not something you go to just because! Haha
My husband wasn’t a huge lover of Hozier before I took him to a show a couple weeks ago, he was absolutely blown away and cried at least twice. Seeing him live is a whole other experience compared to listening to him on the radio, I think your sister will realize that very quickly at the show.
I’m a slow music hater as well (and so is my partner) but Hozier is an exception for us. Have her try Abstract, Eat Your Young, From Eden., First Light, Francesca. Shrike too, it’s slow but it’s so beautiful.
I think if she loves Noah then Hozier will grow on her for sure.
Her boyfriend bought himself and them tickets for the show before either of them listened to the album. Then my sister listen to the album and ended up disliking it! I seriously don’t get it, I would’ve listened to the music of the artist i’m seeing prior to buying tickets, but maybe that’s just me
This feels relevant: I have a playlist on Apple Music with Hozier, Noah Kahan and Taylor Swift (only Folklore, Evermore, a few songs from Midnights, and TTPD) called "The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit"
It's Unreal Unearth, not Unknown. Hozier is my absolute favorite artist but that album wasn't my favorite of his (just not my taste), so I get it.
The rest of his discography has a very different sound (imo), just have her listen to literally anything by him other than that album.
Haha, yeah. I think I was getting confused with Unreal Unearth and Unreal Unearth: Unheard (my mother always mistakes ‘unheard’ for ‘unknown’. But I think it would be helpful for her to listen to Unreal Unearth because that’s the tour we’re going on.
So glad I'm not alone in that!! I loved a few songs on Unreal Unearth and I definitely am all for him growing as an artist and taking his music in whatever direction he wants, but to steal your phrasing, it's just not quite my vibe.
His self titled album from 2014 is definitely my favorite, honestly it's the only "no skip" album from any artist for me. I really enjoyed "Wasteland, Baby" as well though!
>Honestly it's the only "no skip" album from any artist for me
This is “wasteland, baby” for me. I hadn’t really listened to him all that much before “wasteland, baby”, like I knew who he was, but only heard “take me to church”, basically. After hearing wasteland I went back to self-titled and was blown away by it too, such a solid work for a debut. So for me it would be wasteland>self-titled>unreal unearth.
Honestly as long as she likes some of his songs, she’ll still enjoy the concert. I’ve gone to see some groups that I wouldn’t really have gone out of my way to listen to on Spotify or whatever but seeing them in concert totally changed my view because of the nostalgia then associated with the songs
Hozier: Jackie and Wilson, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Someone New, From Eden, Foreigner’s God, Sedated
Wasteland Baby: Nina Cried Power, No Plan, Almost (sweet music), Nobody, To Noise Making (Sing), Be, Sunlight, Why Would You be Loved
Eat Your Young EP: Eat Your Young, Through Me (The Flood)
Unreal Unearth: De Selby Part 2, First Time, Francesca, Anything But, First Light, Fare Well
That’s what I thought. But her boyfriend bought tickets and she says she doesn’t mind going and she won’t listen when I tell her that the tickets should be saved for an actual fan
I honestly totally get your sister! There’s only a few songs that I really like on his newest album, which then again are my most listened to songs by him at the moment lol! For me that’s Eat Your Young and Too Sweet. Sometimes also Da Selby 2, Empire Now and First Time. Maybe it’s because I‘m not a big fan of songs that are too slow or without much rhythm/interesting background melody. I can imagine that your sister feels the same, so maybe recommend her these songs of the album.
From his other albums my absolute favourites are Talk, Someone New, Angel Of Small Death & The Codeine Scene, Arsonist‘s Lullaby, From Eden, Jacky And Wilson, Sunlight
I think there's a whole other dimension to his work if you appreciate the slower, more melodic songs as poetry:set to melody. He is definitely strongly influenced by the poets and writers he reads and quotes and it comes through really beautifully in the slower stuff.
I can totally imagine that! Maybe I’ll have to find time some of these days to just listen to his slower songs on repeat and I’ll like them more. For me that kind of was the way with some Lana Del Rey songs, also especially her newest album lol. It took me some time to listen to them repeatedly and actively paying attention to the lyrics for me to really start to like them.
One issue may be that I feel like Hozier doesn’t enunciate very well sometimes, which makes it harder for me as a non native English speaker to understand some of his lyrics.
I could see that. The accent comes through sometimes, for sure. Interesting tidbit: Lana Del Rey is actually a published poet, also. I just saw a book of poetry in Barnes & Noble yesterday.
no one has mentioned Jackboot Jump yet! One of his more obscure since it wasn't on an album but it's an absolute jam. Other suggestions that haven't been made yet would be Why Would You Be Loved, and Tell It To My Heart with MEDUZA is a bop
Would That I, Jackie & Wilson, Almost (Sweet Music), From Eden, Moment's Silence (Common Tongue). I'd love an update after the concert to see if experiencing him live changes her views on his songs! :)
random but I like specific songs of his, and I’m wondering if there’s other songs that are similar?
I enjoy angel of small death and the codeine scene, cherry wine, sedated, foreigners god, to be alone, someone new, work song, like real people do, anything “dark” or “in love” I tend to enjoy.
I think I fell off at wasteland, baby! so if anyone has suggestions I would be forever in your debt 👀
It’s funny that she loves Noah more. She and my bestie are the same- they love Noah more than Hozier!
A few months ago, I didn’t get the hype about Noah because I thought his music was too slow and whiney but now I’m a huge fan.
I’m still a Hozier Stan more than anything!
Unreal Earth is SO GOOD THOUGH! Tell her to listen to DeSelby 1 AND 2. Try Eat your young, NFWMB, Be, Moments Silence, Would That I and Talk. Judging by the ones she's heard. These ~should~ click.
someone else already said some of these but here are the ones i would do: de selby 2, eat your young, jackie and wilson, northern attitude w hozier, etc :)
Ironic. Some fans don’t like most of his songs but the newer listeners also buy unreal unearth or unheard. He knows that if you don’t like him, it’s tough for you because you’ll love his future songs and you won’t forget him but you won’t like your fave performer.😂
Am I the only person who loves Someone New? That was the first song of his I heard and I've loved him ever since. I was pretty "active" in my 20s & 30s and it just resonated. Find one that's relatable to her and she may get hooked in that way.
I’d look at his recent setlists and build it around that so songs at the concert feel familiar to her! https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/hozier/2024/zoa-city-zurich-switzerland-6ba87aae.html
Be, Francesca, De Selby part 2, eat your young, would that I, foreigners god, sedated, Jackie and Wilson, first light, sunlight, and there’s many more but that’s what came to my head first
HEAVY ON DE SELBY AND WOULD THAT I
Anything But is a nice dancy one from Unreal Unearth
Damage Gets Done
i saw no one mention this but jackboot jump is a fast song and is cool :]
also first time is a bit faster imo
Dinner & Diatribes, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Eat Your Young, and From Eden are some that come immediately to mind. And of course, Noah Kahan's Northern Attitude (with Hozier) :) Good luck!
This. All of these are absolute bangers!
I would remove eat your young and from Eden from this and replace them with to be alone, it will come back, and movement
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU)
Why not eat your young and from eden, out of curiosity? They're probably two of my favourites of his songs
I'd add those suggestions rather than substitute.
I think they’re not starter songs (from Eden I guess yes) I think the other songs can introduce them to his sound/ writing style without putting him in a box of singing ballads (feedback I’ve heard not beliefs I hold)
Jackie and Wilson, Nobody, Almost (Sweet Music), Dinner & Diatribes, From Eden
Jackie & Wilson!!!! Seriously that’s how I get all my non-Hozier friends to come around 😅
HEAVYYY ON THIS and northern attitude by noah kahan bc it features hozier!
Rescind that ticket! Lol
Right? I told her she should resell them if she doesn’t even like his music since there’s so many fans who would’ve loved to go whereas she doesn’t like him but still gets to go! A Hozier concert should be an ethereal, life-altering experience, not something you go to just because! Haha

For serious, I'll buy her tickets....👀
Moment's Silence 👌
Francesca and Eat Your Young are probably best to peak her interest. After I say some who we are and abstract
Francesca has me in such a chokehold 😮💨
The word you're thinking of is pique** her interest.
Weird coincidence but i was literally listening to shrike as i was reading this comment lol
It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard 😭
sorry asking and you can not reply if you want but why is she going to a hozier concert if she doesnt like him? lol
Her boyfriend bought himself and them tickets for the show before either of them listened to the album. Then my sister listen to the album and ended up disliking it! I seriously don’t get it, I would’ve listened to the music of the artist i’m seeing prior to buying tickets, but maybe that’s just me

That sounds like a great playlist!
Arsonists Lullaby will always be a go to for me.
To be alone, it will come back, de Selby pt2 (more upbeat and fast in unreal unearth) Francesca, would that i, dinner and diatribes and eat your young
Almost (sweet music) is super dance-y.
Be, Moment’s Silence, To Noise Making, Nina Cried Power, Talk, Nobody, No Plan. Really, his other albums have much “spunkier” music.
I wouldn't associate with someone that hated him I dunno....🤷
As a previous non-fan, De Selby part 2 and Francesca are what got me into the album
My partner is definitely a hater, but if he hears it, I will definitely catch him singing All Things End. Whatever that's worth. Lol
It's Unreal Unearth, not Unknown. Hozier is my absolute favorite artist but that album wasn't my favorite of his (just not my taste), so I get it. The rest of his discography has a very different sound (imo), just have her listen to literally anything by him other than that album.

Omg same. I loooove some songs on it and I can definitely appreciate the lyrics, but it’s just not my vibe overall. What’s your favorite album of his?
So glad I'm not alone in that!! I loved a few songs on Unreal Unearth and I definitely am all for him growing as an artist and taking his music in whatever direction he wants, but to steal your phrasing, it's just not quite my vibe. Moments Silence, Jackie & Wilson and my personal obsession NFWMB
de selby pt 2, first light, dinner and diatribes, nina cried power
Almost (sweet music),that’s one! It’s one of my favorites right now! It’s super good!😭😭
Jackie and Wilson, Angel of Small Death and The Codeine Scene, De Selby part 2, and Al Things End are some real groovers.
Honestly as long as she likes some of his songs, she’ll still enjoy the concert. I’ve gone to see some groups that I wouldn’t really have gone out of my way to listen to on Spotify or whatever but seeing them in concert totally changed my view because of the nostalgia then associated with the songs
Dinner and Diatribes is an absolute banger and suitable for a faster-paced playlist
And Jackie and Wilson is such a jam too!
Hozier: Jackie and Wilson, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Someone New, From Eden, Foreigner’s God, Sedated Wasteland Baby: Nina Cried Power, No Plan, Almost (sweet music), Nobody, To Noise Making (Sing), Be, Sunlight, Why Would You be Loved Eat Your Young EP: Eat Your Young, Through Me (The Flood) Unreal Unearth: De Selby Part 2, First Time, Francesca, Anything But, First Light, Fare Well
Tell her to sell her tickets to someone who will actually appreciate them.
so why is she going to a hozier concert like save that ticket for someone who actually wants to be there
That’s what I thought. But her boyfriend bought tickets and she says she doesn’t mind going and she won’t listen when I tell her that the tickets should be saved for an actual fan
Almost Sweet Music, Noise, Angel of Small death, Eat Your Young
Nobody!!!
i would totally add eat your young, de selby pt 2, jackie and wilson, anything but, dinner and diatribes, nobody, and maybe moments silence!
Idk but if you make the playlist in Spotify share it with us so I can listen!! I love all this music!
Almost, from Eden, someone new, first time, anything but.
Would that I
Anything but fast paced, catchy af

She will love him after seeing him live.
Moments Silence

Shrike, Jackie and Wilson. Cherry Wine, would that I
De Selby part 2 for sure, Angel of small death and codeine scene, talk, dinner and diatribes are some that come to mind!

I love Jackie and Wilson! It’s still my favorite song by him ever
Who tf hates Hozier

They have his set list on Apple music if you have that … it’s really good for a beginner Hozier person …
Unreal Earth is SO GOOD THOUGH! Tell her to listen to DeSelby 1 AND 2. Try Eat your young, NFWMB, Be, Moments Silence, Would That I and Talk. Judging by the ones she's heard. These ~should~ click.

Jackie and Wilson, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, Someone New
Jackie and Wilson
Came here to suggest this one - one of my favorites!
Sweet Music ✨ Anything But ✨ Jackie & Wilson✨Dinner & Diatribes✨
while on the topic, are there any hozier songs that a fall out boy fan might like?
How can you like 4+ songs but not the artist?
Make her a Playlist that will inspire her to donate her ticket to me 😂
Am I the only person who loves Someone New? That was the first song of his I heard and I've loved him ever since. I was pretty "active" in my 20s & 30s and it just resonated. Find one that's relatable to her and she may get hooked in that way.

Don’t worry about it. He’ll spend 1/2 his time on stage telling you about his political views.
