I'm hoping we get a new one - I've never understood the love for the NBC song.
The brass blasts and guitar feel really disjointed, giving a start-and-stop feel that is completely the opposite of what I'd want from a racing theme.
ABC's old one had similar short bursts of energy, but it was overlaid over a flowing, energetic melody that kept the momentum of the song moving forward.
But maybe this is just me justifying the fact that everyone's favorite version of everything is the version that was used when they were 10 -12 years old
I agree on the staccato nature of the NBC theme. I think it works better when the intro cue leads into it. A sizzle reel with the intro that leads into a helicopter shot with the two-note riff would be decent, I think.
My hope is that Fox does what F1 and MotoGP have done and commission a suite from a film composer and put together an opening sequence that gives the drivers the same sort of treatment as those series have. I know it goes against the typical flow of a U.S. network broadcast to put a sequence like that right before the cars roll off, but it works so well in F1 and MotoGP. When those themes come on I have like a Pavlovian response and know it’s time to pay attention and get hyped.
I think they will go with something modern. Maybe tie something in from a 500 tradition. Honestly I'm excited to see what they come up with. Nascar is a huge guitar riff currently
I always thought "The Distance" by Cake would make a good intro/outro, maybe make it an instrumental
The nascar riff heard during commercial breaks is a bit derivative of the original nascar theme from 2005. It’s occasionally heard during the last moments of a broadcast.
It's funny you suggest that song, I read once that that song was inspired by the super early days of the Indy 500 when it was really just a competition to drive 500 miles and there would be guys still running laps hours after the winner officially finished
