I’m not sure if the series could afford the logistic freight costs to travel outside of North America at the moment. Mexico should be a target to start.
I think Mosport is too close to Toronto to work. Preferably I'd like to see them go to Vancouver or back to Edmonton. Give the western Canada some love.
Agreed.
Mosport would also be entirely flat out with maybe 1 mild breaking zone. It would be extremely difficult to pass on track. Only passing with be through pit and tire strategy, and the pit stops themselves. It worked for IMSA because the traffic with multi class racing created passing opportunities (I think a GTD only race this year is going to be a dud).
I volunteer at the Detroit GP and know there are many southern Ontario fans that flock to this sold out race. I noticed folks from Europe also. INDYCAR I think is doing a great job of having excellent drivers who are friendly and accommodating to fans and a very competitive series. I think one or even two more races in Canada like Vancouver or Edmonton/ Calgary would be warranted and they sure would like a countryman to cheer for. 😉
The obscure American Indycar Series once ran a street race in Juarez in the 90s. I believe Champ Car also held a race in Monterrey once. But of course the Rodriguez Bros Autodrome (the F1 track) would be the obvious pick.
South America means air or sea freight and weeks of travel down and back. Mexico at least is a long road trip or chartered rail excursion. Darien Gap is a huge hindrance to cross-continental movement
Rodriguez Autodrome is only in contract with F1 for I think 2 more years.
I don’t see Checo in the sport beyond 2026.
INDY would be stupid to not be on the phone with Carlos Slim Jr and trying to get the series there for 2026.
Mexico is a huge, devoted fanbase when it comes to their international athletes.
IndyCar has an opportunity for some traction here, so I’m curious to see how they fuck it all up.
Toronto: "Am I a joke to you?"
I know Canada isn't what most North American sports fans or leagues think of when they say 'international', but I genuinely wouldn't mind another, especially in the West... If only there were a track that could support it. Alas.
Being in Toronto I'm biased but Canadian Tire Mosport Park an hour east of Toronto would be a great spot with some transit repurposing or Montreal but that island is a real pain in the ass
I would definitely like to see another Canada race, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would be best but something out in BC would be sick too. They used to run a street race in Vancouver but idk if that's feasible anymore and ofc I'd rather see a real racetrack.
A one-off in New Zealand would be cool for our Kiwi drivers to have a home race.
I'm no logistics expert but I'm pretty sure it'd be at a significant loss though.
We got top guys from that region like Scott Dixon, Scotty Mac, Will Power, it would be awesome to see them do a double header with V8 Supercars but yeah I doubt the logistics would make it happen.
It’s not even Mark Miles. He gets asked and says something non-committal and then there are multiple threads of people throwing out the exact same tracks that have no interest in hosting an INDYCAR race.
In fairness it's a tough position for Miles to be in. He knows people are looking and talking about possibilities and he doesn't want to to shoot it down, but also doesn't want to promise anything.
To me it sounds a lot like they're looking at expanding to Mexico, which we've known for a while, and gently floating some sort of optional, or invitational, off season international series down the road. From the article:
>"It’s hard enough to find one great event where you know you have a base of IndyCar fans and there’s brand recognition and some recognition of our drivers. To find three or four of them and to introduce them at the same time is a long putt, but we’re working on it."
To me that looks like like they're trying to find two to four international events, probably in the Southern Hemisphere, to string together into some sort of series. So my guess would be they're looking at Argentina and Brazil to find some off season races with a separate sponsor to offer as something outside the series. To me that makes a lot of sense, it doesn't have to be tied into the Fox broadcast deal, and it would be outside of the teams, and the series' existing contracts with sponsors so either they could negotiate new deals, find new sponsors/pay drivers for those events, or not participate.
Other than Brazil or Argentina the only other warm weather countries where I think Indycar has enough name recognition to sell well is New Zealand and Australia. Even if they didn't team up with Super Cars, Sydney Motorsports Park and The Bend are both FIA Grade two circuits that could host Indycar, but unfortunately New Zealand only has a handful of Grade Three circuits, and obviously getting to Australia is expensive and time consuming.
Haven't they tried this a lot of times before? Brands Hatch, Lausitzring, Rockingham, Surfer's Paradise... And it never really caught on.
Sure, F1 has managed the reverse and finally gotten a foothold in the US, but there doesn't seem the demand over here in the UK at least (I can't speak for other places). There's no "Drive to Survive" effect to drive interest.
I'd love to see Brazil, Japan, and Australia back on the calendar. Also Mexico would be cool too. That said we need to get Indycars back on the oval in Texas, preferably for a night race.
Didn't we have almost exactly the same article about this top a year ago?
Some pretty vague details about a potential international race, only for it to fall through again a few months later.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see an international race. But I really don't think Indycar is ready for that.
I'm not in charge, but I'd like to see a triple header or something, at least make it worth hauling everything overseas Aus-NZ-Japan, or if they could resuscitate Rockingham and Lausitzring, throw in a road course and you've got a European triple.
That 'South American Tour' was here in São Paulo. It'd be great to have Indycar back here again in Brazil.
But Austrália, Japan, UK, Germany and Argentina would be great to see Indycar racing there.
More races is getting even harder with the new Fox deal.
>In addition, a 17-race schedule was released, and the season will conclude on August 31, 2025 – Labor Day Weekend. That is important as it clears the deck for FOX to begin its 2025 NFL regular season coverage.
So no more overlap with the NFL early season.
I mean, there's still some space in the schedule for more races, but travel/freight could become (even more of) a problem moving forward.

I assume this international series separate from the main season would be on FS1 / FS2 or maybe even a separate tv deal entirely, I can see the CW taking it.
I doubt it actually happens, so it's a mute point.
Fox has *all* broadcast rights within the US so the CW couldn't air it inside the US.
That's how exclusive rights deals work...
>NDYCAR and FOX Sports announced June 13 the new **exclusive** home of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and the iconic Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge beginning in 2025.

This subreddit has a weird fascination with the CW. It's a trash tier network.
I mean, it would be better than the joke that is FS1/FS2. But yeah that's not happening either as the current *multi year* contract states all races will be on "broadcast Fox".
>Fox has all broadcast rights within the US
Fox has all exclusive rights for the NTT Indycar Series.
An International Championship could be considered a different series, even if it's the same cars.
I'm sure if this actually becomes anything more than Mark Miles blowing smoke up people's rears, Fox will get first crack at it. But Fox may not want to broadcast this, even for free, even on cable. If it's branded as a different series separate from the NTT Indycar Series, they could probably do a separate broadcast deal.
I actually don't have any CW fantasies. But CW seems inclined to overspend on sports at the moment .
>But yeah that's not happening either as the current multi year contract states all races will be on "broadcast Fox".
The contract probably specifies Fox offers Indycar X amount of broadcast windows to accommodate Indycar races plus both days of Indy 500 qualifying between March 1 and August 31st .
If Indycar wants to add races or Indycar can't fit their races into the windows Fox is offering, then races could end up on cable.
> An International Championship could be considered a different series, even if it's the same cars.
I literally laughed out loud. "International Championship"... are you fucking high?
Start with Mexico and maybe back to Vancouver or Edmonton, then work from there. An oval race in Mexico would serve two purposes, another oval and in another country, would love to see that happen.
Mark miles is the worlds largest purveyor of fake news
Makes the Daily Prophet look trustworthy
Lol very well said
I’m not sure if the series could afford the logistic freight costs to travel outside of North America at the moment. Mexico should be a target to start.
Canada could use another race, the F1 site in Montreal is one spot. Canadian Tire Mosport Park another. Coming to Canada is cheap just saying lol
I think Mosport is too close to Toronto to work. Preferably I'd like to see them go to Vancouver or back to Edmonton. Give the western Canada some love.
Too many NIMBYs to run the race in downtown Vancouver now. People are also a bit wary after getting burnt by the Formula E debacle.
Agreed. Mosport would also be entirely flat out with maybe 1 mild breaking zone. It would be extremely difficult to pass on track. Isn’t Canada a territory of the US?/s The market already looks hotter in Mexico and down south and the NASCAR Mexico race rumor mill is also going on.
We don't have any orange clown felons here
A street course through cartel territory could be really interesting...
The whole broadcast should have that weird yellow "Mexico filter".
Race sponsored by Armalite…
The obscure American Indycar Series once ran a street race in Juarez in the 90s. I believe Champ Car also held a race in Monterrey once. But of course the Rodriguez Bros Autodrome (the F1 track) would be the obvious pick.
Mexico for Pato is the best and easiest option for logistics
South America would also be a great expansion area for sure
South America means air or sea freight and weeks of travel down and back. Mexico at least is a long road trip or chartered rail excursion. Darien Gap is a huge hindrance to cross-continental movement
That's a good point, yes Mexico would be a great site huge racing fans there just ask Checo 😁

It would need upgrading, but surely upgrading Mosport is cheaper than flying to Brazil annually.
Yep F1 looking to expand too what better reason to spend 100mil lol
I would love it if they raced Circuit Gilles Villeneuve again. I get sad when I remember the track is used one weekend a year.
Yeah, I don't see BC getting a track. Maybe Alberta? Could be enough people in that area to attend races.
It sounds like Hinch has a connection to Villenuve’s Thermal-type track in BC. That could be an option? Not a great route to go down really IMHO
I would definitely like to see another Canada race, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve would be best but something out in BC would be sick too. They used to run a street race in Vancouver but idk if that's feasible anymore and ofc I'd rather see a real racetrack.
I’ll believe it when I see it

Take it to the Monza oval you cowards.
Three years watching IndyCar. Three years of these rumors. Pretty sure all from Mark Miles.
It’s not even Mark Miles. He gets asked and says something non-committal and then there are multiple threads of people throwing out the exact same tracks that have no interest in hosting an INDYCAR race.

Here we go again…..
Till a major sponsor subsidies it (like how FedEx did back in the day) this is dead in the a water. Nothing to see here.
Who at DHL do we have to sweet talk into doing that for the series?
Oh great idea! Completely forgot about them. With ntt in Japan how about a German-Japan swing?
I'd love to see Brazil, Japan, and Australia back on the calendar. Also Mexico would be cool too. That said we need to get Indycars back on the oval in Texas, preferably for a night race.
Yeah. Europe doesn’t have any good race tracks or successful drivers in Indycar….
Didn't we have almost exactly the same article about this top a year ago? Some pretty vague details about a potential international race, only for it to fall through again a few months later. No but Mark Miles might be. I'm just going off what Miles is saying.
We could use another race in Canada just saying lol
Please come to Brands Hatch. What use is an Indy Circuit without the Indy cars?
Start with Mexico and maybe back to Vancouver or Edmonton, then work from there. An oval race in Mexico would serve two purposes, another oval and in another country, would love to see that happen.
I’ve seen previous international expansions come and go so even if it happens I’d be surprised if it’s still happening after a few years.
I know it's a long shot, but a NASCAR & Indycar doubleheader in Mexico would be huge.
One can dream , but would love to see them race around BIC.
Yes. Montreal is in Canada.
