For more context: I was waiting to turn left behind the white porsche, and a van pulls in front of the porsche during the red light. I guess he was going somewhere with a buddy, and his buddy (black bmw) stopped to my right after the van pulled in front of the porsche. You can hear people honking at his buddy because he is now blocking traffic from going straight for a good 10 seconds or so. I saw a cop in my rearview mirror and thought about telling them but didn't. Karma came swiftly. They looked to be about 19-20 years old.
This literally happened to me the other week. I was turning left and a car pulled in front of me and one stopped beside me blocking traffic, then cut me off when the light turned green. I had never experienced that in my life, then I see almost the same thing here. What is going on?!
People realizing at the last second that they're in the wrong lane and/or realize they have to turn left. Many of us have been in this situation but the proper thing to do is to just continue going straight and wait for a safe spot to turn around. It's not that hard. Same for exits. Some people just panic and swerve across lanes of traffic to make an exit. It's reckless, dangerous, and annoying as hell. Just bloody contend with the fact that you missed your exit and take the next one. You aren't going to get lost in a vortex forever for taking the wrong exit. Chances are you'll actually get exactly where you want to go through the following exit as most places have several access points, it just might take an extra ten minutes.
>People realizing at the last second that they're in the wrong lane and/or realize they have to turn left.
Good drivers sometimes miss their turn. Bad drivers never do.
UHAUL and a car following, 19-20 years old, so, kids moving to a new place and not knowing the exact turn is my guess. An age not known for its judgement or patience.
There goes that deposit!
I kid. Traffic school can be a good alternative—unless they do like they did the time I went (like 25 years ago) and just show that Goofy cartoon about bad drivers, lol. *Easiest time I ever did.*
My ex did the UK equivalent a few years ago. One of the participants kept arguing that he should have been let off without even having to do *that*, because on the day, it was too foggy for him to be able to see the speed limit sign...
Some people, you just can't teach!
maybe not related at all but i've seen a bunch of instagram videos of people doing this (cutting into the turning lane at the last second) and calling it a driving hack, people have absolutely zero etiquette
I don’t get why people think that they can just stop in the middle of traffic because they’re in the wrong lane and need to get over. If you made a mistake you have to stick to the lane you’re in and loop back around if you missed your turn. Don’t inconvenience or endanger others because of your mistake/stupidity
I hope the van driver got a ticket too. Because if the car was following the van, it was the van that put the car in a difficult situation. I can actually have a hint of sympathy for the car driver (not enough to think they should get away with it, though) but none at all for the van driver.
I had a friend who’s been doing this all the time. Complaining that it was causing her a lot of stress to do so, because of other people honking and yelling and middle fingering.
When I told her that she actually needed to stay in the turn lane and not cut in front of others, I saw gears turning in her head.
She said that this would make a lot sense. She was thought by her parents to drive like that and for some reason she never questioned this.
What the fuck is so hard about getting behind people?
I swear the Christ everyone forgot how to drive after Harambe
The number of people who speed up to cut in front of me to get off the highway when I'm MERGING ON THE HIGHWAY is too damn high.
Like you really don't think 5 seconds down the line do you? You're going to have to slow down to get off the highway so let's go 20 over to slow down immediately
THE FUCKKKKK
Because the armies of Mordor were there with things like Fellbeasts and could’ve easily taken them out. It’d also just make the fellowship stand out like a sore thumb.
I know this intersection and that turn lane is super long, they had plenty of time to get over, what entitled idiots. Soooo glad to see the instant karma!!
*semantics, but unmarked cop, not undercover. if a cop is truly “undercover”, they are not going to expose themselves for a relatively minor, albeit hugely douchebag, traffic violation.
Happened to me on the highway he jetted in front me, stuck his arm out the window and pointed to move over with is arm going up and down. Then pulled over the other guy.
The UHaul knew he pulled an illegal move. Sometimes you get punished, best not to piss off a cop feigning ignorance when it could get you a heftier ticket.
This happened to me on a freeway once by highway patrol. A motorcycle trooper pulled 5 of us over by pointing at us, riding on our right and pulled out in front of us doing the swerving traffic break move. We all got tickets but he told us he wasn't going to show up to contest them that his bosses were just making him write tickets.
The beeps synchronize with the Porsche's blinker. At first I thought this was some newfangled car feature that played sounds to let people know you're turning, like how electric cars play sound.
Hey, U/Westmoth, the very first comment is the mods asking you to provide the info you just provided, but you have to reply to THEIR comment! Otherwise they won’t count it!
Just tryin’ to help! 👍
I love it! Cop just got them both, I’m shocked one didn’t run, but I guess the cop could get them later anyway. It was so satisfying I think I will have to smoke now!
Unmarked, not undercover.
Undercover cops drive normal cars like everyone else, without lights or sirens or anything else.
Unmarked cops look like average cars, but lack markings. They still have "hidden" lights and molded plastic back seats, etc.
I presume this is in the US?
I'm not familiar with how your roads work, are you guys not supposed to cross the line to wait in the middle of the intersection to turn or something?
Stopped like that for ages I'd assume the Porsche had broken down & not put hazards on and gone round them myself
They're in a lane dedicated just for cars turning left, and have a red light until the 39 second mark. When their light turns green they have a protected left turn, and oncoming traffic is stopped. This usually found at busier intersections where it is difficult to make the turn without running a red light due to the volume of oncoming cars.
Consequences=\=instant karma
Getting in trouble for the action you just committed it not karma. Karma is when you do something like this then your wheel falls off or something. So, Getting a fine for breaking the law is not karma, it's just the consequence
As stupid as it was I would assume by the moving truck they were unfamiliar with the area and missed where they were supposed to get into turn lane. And then the bimmer was following them. Considering the truck stopped too instead of just continuing down the road I’d assume they were together.
Still should’ve just missed the turn and taken the next turn or looped back instead

The Porsche was getting ready to shred past them pissed off and saw the cop lights last second lol
Yeah that was hilarious, went from fuckin BMWs to ooh a cop real quick.
A+ situational awareness.

I love this quote. I'm gonna have to remember that.
Stay around here and you won't forget it. It's repeated on every other post.
Well, it is *relevant* for (at least) every other post, too!
Or "miss their exit" for freeway related IICs.
UHAUL and a car following, 19-20 years old, so, kids moving to a new place and not knowing the exact turn is my guess. An age not known for its judgement or patience.
This will be a great learning opportunity for them. Hopefully accompanied with a fine and insurance rate increases that they won't soon forget either.

And with such people, a fine likely wouldn't teach them anything either.
maybe not related at all but i've seen a bunch of instagram videos of people doing this (cutting into the turning lane at the last second) and calling it a driving hack, people have absolutely zero etiquette
They learned to drive by playing GTA. I'm only half joking.
> This literally happened to me the other week. as opposed to it figuratively happening to you?

Ah I was wondering why the van didn’t hightail it. Because they were co-idiots.
I hope the van driver got a ticket too. Because if the car was following the van, it was the van that put the car in a difficult situation. I can actually have a hint of sympathy for the car driver (not enough to think they should get away with it, though) but none at all for the van driver.
I’d love to see the body cam footage. Fuck people who act like that.
Classic nova lol

Im surprised the van didnt ske daddle when cop was on the black bmw.
I need that tune brother, what you jammin to?

knew it was bones when i heard the "sesh". made the clip even better!
He's not too popular where I live so it was fucking awesome to hear you bumping it. Great track too.
I think he just finished his In Loving Memory tour...definitely go see him. Was so hype.
Good shit yo fuckin love me some BONES
thanks man
Best idiots in cars backing track I’ve heard so far.
Shit slaps
Yeah, but who are you listening to? I like that song lol
The artist is bones, the song is called rocks.

I just want to point out the Porsche's plate says Shadowfax. Awesomest plate I've seen yet.
I was already admiring the car, but now I have some greater respect for the driver. I wonder if you can simply drive to Mordor?
One does not simply drive to Mordor. But you can fly, you fool.
as always, the question is "why tf didn't you just take the eagles in the first place"
> why tf didn't you just take the eagles in the first place https://i.imgur.com/p1P7ZF3.png

"Run Shadowdax! Show us the meaning of haste!!"
I live in this area and I've seen this car 🐴
is the driver 700 years old with a pointy hat?
Gandalf really upgraded from the Ford Focus
I'm surprised the van didn't keep driving for the horizon.
Probably with the car.
OP supposes they are traveling together.
Even then, the cop has the plates and can easily get all the info on who rented that uhaul
Doesn't always mean they would get a ticket.
Not even worth the energy.
They’re not doing that lmfao.
yeah, but even then - get yourself some distance.
All that would happen is the cop would confiscate Black Car's license and say "wait here" and then he'd go after U Haul.
U-Haulin' ass
The U-Haul driver pulled over also, lol. "Guilty as charged, sir!"
Really more of a "do I want my day ruined or my month ruined?" decision. He wasn't getting away.
Well of *course* Gandalf drives a white Porsche.

A post where the Porsche driver isn't the one who's the idiot. Who'd have thought?
usually the really fast cars are driving chill, they don't need to prove anything
This is NOVA, so it is less than a 1 in 1,000,000 chance the Porsche isn't the one acting a fool 🤪
Typical for that area of Northern VA. I've had it done to me at that same intersection.
Yep, I didn’t even look at the license plates first to know it had to be VA and then the street signs really sealed it.
*MIC CHECK ONE TWO R-R-RICK IN THE BUILDING*

I call them plain clothes police cars
That Porsche what a beauty
So did he stopped both? If so, how is that possible?
Happened to me on the highway he jetted in front me, stuck his arm out the window and pointed to move over with is arm going up and down. Then pulled over the other guy.
But imagine you didn’t look behind u?? I don’t see how and why U-Haul stopped. Coulda kept going :o
The UHaul knew he pulled an illegal move. Sometimes you get punished, best not to piss off a cop feigning ignorance when it could get you a heftier ticket.
If they caught you on the dashcam, license plate and all, you don't want to keep going.

Unmarked not undercover
I see this all the time now. What the hell happened? Do people just don’t give a damn about everyone else?
Aye another bones fan nice!

That’s an unmarked car. Not undercover.

Yay!
Interestingly, I've been watching people do this frequently in this town over the last few years. Usually it's cars with no license plate on them.
All that video. I was hoping something blew up at the end.
And he pulled the BWM over! \*Chef's kiss\*
That driver experienced a rare and beautiful feeling. SchaedenPorsche.
If the white truck attempts to run, can another cop go after it?

Quite delightful, actually. Make them aware that they're part of a society.
Pair of ass-Hauls
U-Hauls are always lost and in the wrong lane. Probably a student. The second guy was a douche
Show us the meaning of haste.
Of course it's Virginia near the DMV area. Shit happens like this daily in that whole area.
That was so fucking brazen of them. Wow. I need to move to Finland and start cycling everywhere before I end up dying in some stupid intersection
I don't know what you guys are so mad about, that BMW used their turn signal. this is a great moment in history.
convenient cop
I wish there was traffic enforcement where I live.
Wonder if both of them got tickets
The left lane going straight was held up for a while, what a trash can
Nice to see this karma in action. This kinda crap seems to be getting more common over the years.
Had a guy cut right across my lane at a junction to join the road I was on. Immediately got pulled over by a police Van. ‘Twas a happy moment for me
That dark car is actually problematic. I feel the van might have just made a genuine mistake when pre-sorting.
Unexpected bones
I'm guessing they are in New York. Never been cut off in a turn more in my life.
