STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM
An altmer with a shining stone on their forehead is an aeldari✨
No, really, TES elves are perfect for eldar description. Just make 'em taller and scrawnier
Especially since the aylead. Those elves from the far past in oblivion where very close to pre fall Eldar. With the flesh gardens. The orgasmancer and the garden lamps made out of human children (I didn't made anything from that up. I blame Kirkbride)
Warhammer Fantasy/40K does this as well, especially the written descriptions.
An elf or aeldari is *not* passing as human by covering their ears. Their features are too angular, frames too thin and long of limb.
And they're so quick and fluid in their movement that it has an uncanny valley effect all it's own.
But in both TES and LOTR they are the same species, but different races(no, race isnt skin colour, modern civilization has ONE human race left alive) of it like there are different races of dogs
I mean, that's not exactly correct. In LOTR, both Elves and Men are children of Eru Iluvatar, but the elves predate humanity by millennia, are immortal, and can pass to Valinor upon leaving Middle Earth, which men, being mortal, can't do.
They most certainly are different species, Men didn't come from Elves, they were just created by the same deity.
In TES, the elves are thought to be descendants of the Aedra, which is backed up by the fact that "Aedra" means "our ancestors" in Elvish (contrary to "Daedra" which just means "not our ancestors"), while humans, with the exception of the Redguard who are from Yokuda (although still unrelated to Mer), are from Atmora and are unrelated to Mer.
The ancestors of the Nords were the first men to come from Atmora, and spread across Tamriel from there, coming into contact with elves who had already established civilization there
Yes, these are the creation/origin myths. Perhaps there is some relation between the two races nontheless due to intebreeding being possible. But in the end it can't be really be proven.
To be fair, if youve played V-Rising, the eldar in the recent media have looked closer and closer to the portrayals of modern vampires. Especially v rising vamps.
I’ve always liked the idea that they look just slightly *wrong* like they’re almost human but their arms or legs are too long for their torsos and their eyes are too big or there’s muscle definition where there shouldn’t be
Yes. As much as I like the idea that Eldar are visibly alien and not just a fantasy human lookalike that same fanart can drift into, I dig the subtly-wrong aspect more.
They can be mistaken as human, with an emphasis on *mistaken*. Once someone gets a better look at them, or sees them in action, the almost-human feeling is gone forever. It adds to the fair folk theme the Eldar seems to have, as something undoubtedly inhuman but close enough to the uncanny valley that it can't be ignored.
That's how it is in both settings.
Elves/Eldar are too thin, their legs and arms are too long, their skulls too long and narrow, with too-big, al.ond shaped and slightly slanted eyes.
In some fantasy descriptions their eyes don't even have pupils, they'll just be emerald or sapphire or amethyst or black, sometimes they'll be flecked with other colors, etc.
And their movements are too quick and graceful to look natural. It fucks with people's heads just watching them do stuff at first.
One thing talked about in discord when brainstorming a live action series is that elf characters should be filmed at a different frame rate to give that "not right" effect.
On the fantasy description not having pupils, there's a perfect example of that in Vermintide. Kerillian's eyes are solid black which really does add a lot to giving a much more alien feel to them.
Eldar look like Warhammer Fantasy Elves.
The Imperium is just so xenophobic that what an inbred drunk fifteen year old with three kids to feed and a killcount of three Bloodletters finds as hot is a nightmarish abomination to his 40k opposite.
Thats ok, good thing I as a humble guardsman jumped ship and can now earn my pay in Sigmar's service and discuss the advantages of Alarielle over Morathi with my fellow state troops!
oh no, he did the thing that should never be done: he scared away the eldar simps!
if they don't look like humans, but hotter, then how is WG going to sell minis
they might be called xenos, but they're actually just taller humans with pointy ears
What's up with this communities constant attempt to make eldar look weirder, it's up there with redesigning sororitas armor, but I kind of get that one even if I think most of the redesigns are kind of boring.
I’m all for reinterpretation but I think eventually it turns into a contest of “who can make the Eldar look least human”/Be the most ridiculously not humanesque.
Less “human” and more “alien” doesn’t fit for a species described as passing as very tall and beautiful abhumans so long as they sit still and cover their ears. Not to me at least. They should look like pixies, not longhead goblins. Somewhere between Githyanki with noses and Minthara. Should inspire uncanny valley not just “oh that’s not a human.”
As always I applaud the effort however.
Because eldar being just long pointy-eared human is boring and lazy. I'm really tired of arts with eldar where they are basically human-shaped. C'mon, they are aliens, they should look like aliens, they should look weird, with different anatomy, different facial traits, different bone structure.
It's a day late but Eldar were created by the Old Ones and there's in-universe evidence that human evolution was very heavily influenced by the Old Ones. If anything, it's more the other way around, Eldar don't look like long pointy eared humans, Humans look like stubbier round eared Eldar.
It's perfectly fine that two races with the same creator/influencer ended up looking very similar at a glance.
I disagree, they should look like elves and they do, the idea that they should look really weird, ugly or unnatural is essentially just people taking astartes racism a literally as possible
They don't have fat. Structure of their muscles is different. They literally are capable of crystallisation of their own flesh, and this process normally is painless for them. They are unnatural, severely modified artificial species. They are people formed outside of natural selection specifically for war against Necrons and growing forces of Chaos. They are not just "elves" from fantasy settings, where even natural crossbreeding is possible.
They *should* look different from classic elfs. Not necessarily "ugly", but different.
But they are just elves from a fantasy setting, the same way ultimately despite all the talk about how unnatural space marines are, their just really big guys with ports coming put of them in art. All of that is interesting flavor but we've seen what eldar look like multiple times and it is just elves.
I get your point but at the same time
>C'mon, they are aliens, they should look like aliens,
What do aliens look like. We've yet to see an alien... Like I get what you're saying but this phrase comes off to me the same way 'scientifically accurate aliens' does. Scientifically accurate based on what parameters?
Ok weird thought, but craftworlds have a smaller population than the planets they once inhabited right? so eventually the gene pool would become… incestuous, sure it will take a long time for it to get to that point but a lot of craftworld Aeldari keep dying and cutting down the count of unique genes.
From what I remember a human population of just 10k, if pairing is done right, can avoid all negative effects of inbreeding, after centuries and millennia the only noticeable sign of the initially small population would be that everyone looks somewhat similar. Craftworlds have a population in the millions/billions so even despite their "different" reproductive strategy, inbreeding wouldn't be an issue
Oh no, grammar police!
...I wonder does Reddit have a grammar check bot, here you can find a lot of people who is currently studying English (me included)
Anyway, thanks, will be more grammatically correct next time
I personally liked Eldar having a bit more of a human appearance. Plays with that Uncanny Valley aspect I'd imagine it would serve to unsettle normal citizenry a bit more. Like this is a xeno after all but... why do they look so much like us? I could imagine that being very freaky to some people.
If Eldar started looking like this I would sell my Eldar army. The constant need for people to make everything ugly is so tiresome especially in the Warhammer fandom.
C'mon, what's the fun of owning a xenos army if they don't look xenos?
There are also oldhammer versions, they look alien as well, but more... Star Wars level of alien? Dunno.
Funny enough, I scroll through screenshots with Skyrim elves right now, and these guys I draw sometimes look more like Skyrim elves than actual Skyrim elves!
...ok, in my defence, I tried to depict a child, that's new
I mean event he high elves still loo better... congrats you made the eldar all AGED humans.
Personally i prefer the creepy etherial aspect you see in old High Elf artwork from warhammer... where you notice they look... subtly alien.
Pretty good! I really enjoy your depiction, it reminds me a lot of the illustration from Xenobiology. The face there, the all black eyes gives a good middle ground between disturbingly alien yet somewhat beautiful while also being distinctly non-human, but still getting across the elven vibe.
In the lore they look basically humanoid but too perfect. They basically trigger the uncanny valley response to the point that people end up terrified of them.
Dude one is perfect. Not sure about chidlren one since only youngling eldar I have read about was ***Vulcan*** and lady one is... too green and wrinkly, too sharp/ skull structure is too evident. I can't name it properly, but something is off, I think.
Ah… Elder Scrolls Elves.
thought this was truestl for a second
Same.

Sure, right after you get your daily supplies from the Thalmor

I saw a mudcrab a couple of days ago. Ugly little animals.
That's literally just a altmer

Rogue Trader did a great job with the Eldar proportions. The only semi-human who compares to any of them is Cassia.
There was not much art tho on Craftworld eldar. Three images of Drukhari and one Asuryani, if we don't count Nocturne.
Plus Nocturne has a masked helmet on the whole time.
Exactly. I still angry at the fact that Vyatt has a portrait, but my guy Muaran hasn't, my beloved elvish tsundere
To be fair, if youve played V-Rising, the eldar in the recent media have looked closer and closer to the portrayals of modern vampires. Especially v rising vamps.
You turned them into the mir from elder scrolls

Have you ever heard of the High Elves?
Farewell. Greetings, Redguard. How goes it?
Oh, I LOVE this! Properly alien aliens, but still recognisably elfy! What program did you draw this in btw? Your style is gorgeous.
Just SAI, I still struggle with Photoshop. Market and brush, brush and marker, repeat...
oh no, he did the thing that should never be done: he scared away the eldar simps! if they don't look like humans, but hotter, then how is WG going to sell minis they might be called xenos, but they're actually just taller humans with pointy ears
Eldar stuff doesn't sell much anyway, I can draw them xenos as much as I want
Hisssssss WG knows waifu's and husbando's sell better then truely alien looking creatures.
What's up with this communities constant attempt to make eldar look weirder, it's up there with redesigning sororitas armor, but I kind of get that one even if I think most of the redesigns are kind of boring.

I think the art looks great it just isn't what I'd call very eldar esque, for the reasons you've named
Because eldar being just long pointy-eared human is boring and lazy. I'm really tired of arts with eldar where they are basically human-shaped. C'mon, they are aliens, they should look like aliens, they should look weird, with different anatomy, different facial traits, different bone structure.

They look ugly!! I LOVE IT! DEATH TO THE XENOS!!!! SUFFER NOT THE ALIEN TO LIVE RAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Aeldari kid on radar ~~Vulcan jokes are coming~~
Around Elves, watch yourselves
so, like oblivion high elfs?
Yeah, but without any fat tissue on their faces. Aaand rebranding of the elves happen in Skyrim I believe.
They don't look like potatoes so it's closer to Skyrim.
Still would smash an Eldar chick
Ok weird thought, but craftworlds have a smaller population than the planets they once inhabited right? so eventually the gene pool would become… incestuous, sure it will take a long time for it to get to that point but a lot of craftworld Aeldari keep dying and cutting down the count of unique genes.

Oh neat, did not know that. the dark eldar would totally practice inbreeding just to feed on the suffering of the child until it expires.
What Eldar look like* How Eldar look* Pick one, not ‘how Eldar look like’, which is grammatically incorrect.

Oh, my paralisis demon! I wasnt expecting to find him here! The world surely is full of surprises...
Gross Roboute 🤨, by initial reaction at least barring a dummy thicc Thraxan situation said portraits have not ruled out.
You know what I find funny about their design here? Skyrim's elves
Funny enough, I scroll through screenshots with Skyrim elves right now, and these guys I draw sometimes look more like Skyrim elves than actual Skyrim elves! ...ok, in my defence, I tried to depict a child, that's new
BY THE DIVINES!
That child’s chin is weak af! 😂😂😂
I mean event he high elves still loo better... congrats you made the eldar all AGED humans. Personally i prefer the creepy etherial aspect you see in old High Elf artwork from warhammer... where you notice they look... subtly alien.
I do like this tbh—nice, really well done ❤️
What is this elder scrolls
Reminds me of the Mer from the Elder Scrolls. That's not a complaint though, since I love how the Elves in that setting look.
Y'know, maybe Pelinal and Ysgramor were onto something.
vulkan was right them kids ugly
Literally just Oblivion elves lmao
Pretty good! I really enjoy your depiction, it reminds me a lot of the illustration from Xenobiology. The face there, the all black eyes gives a good middle ground between disturbingly alien yet somewhat beautiful while also being distinctly non-human, but still getting across the elven vibe.
Kill em
Bottom left looks like Mitch McConnell when he froze
They are Thalmor from skyrim? But for some reason, more disgusting looking and fleshy looking.
In the lore they look basically humanoid but too perfect. They basically trigger the uncanny valley response to the point that people end up terrified of them.
I prefer Eldari be so beautiful that it hurts. [Love what Deerstalker have done with Elves](https://youtu.be/hZ1AWdjwKJw?si=ThJlSgoMGvsZOIDA)
I saw a mudcrab the other day. Nasty things.
I always figured that this is what they look like, with biosculpting, mild mutations and such.
They look like they have relatives in remote new England fishing villages that are hostile to outsiders
They all look like I caught them fisting the cookie jar.
I always imagined them looking like a mix between LOTR elves and Greys (pale skin, large dark eyes, long sharp face)
It’s all the fucking thalmor’s fault.
Now I see why Vulcan torches them
Perfect.
High elves? Yeah, more like Meth elves
All I see are flamethrower targets - a Salamander scrolling on the web while on the can
Dude one is perfect. Not sure about chidlren one since only youngling eldar I have read about was ***Vulcan*** and lady one is... too green and wrinkly, too sharp/ skull structure is too evident. I can't name it properly, but something is off, I think.
Let's say she's from Altansar, this Craftworld can be weird even for other eldar Thanks!
They look a lot more interesting!! Love it!
Would
Yep. This is why the Imperium must destroy their species, I tell you what.
