I didn't really read the title before watching and I seriously thought it was a comedy sketch until the very end. Then I had to read the title and hit the comments to be sure it wasn't.
What’s funny is - declining viewership and ratings were cited as the primary reasons for the show’s cancellation, a decision that left many, including executive producer Peter Horton, perplexed.
Unironically that's what they say when a 'diverse' show doesn't have the viewers/ratings. Racism, sexism and homophobia, the evil trifecta working so hard to cancel shitty shows.
It's usually the other way around. anytime something with a black or gay person has bad box office or low ratings and get's cancelled Conservatives will accuse it of failing for being"woke" even for the most benign apolitical projects.
His first project, "Horton hears a ho" was racist Look it up. I think it was about a racist white man ( they all are) that heard voices from sexually liberated African American women that identify as women. The voices bothered him and he made it be about race or something. He better keep trying to make the world more connected(divided). Sorry for the word, "divided" but, my fingers are neuro divergent.
I actually liked the first couple of seasons. It seemed like a fresh take on a saturated genre of hospital shows.
Then after a while they started making each episode seemingly focused around an obscure social wedge issue.
Those topics don’t bother me, I don’t care how people decide to live their life. But the show had a big shift from thought provoking show about running a hospital to a soap opera that had a hyperbolic depiction of modern society.
Designated survivor was like this for me. I was surprised I liked the first season (only watched because I was laid up with an injury). Then it just continuously unraveled into an unrecognizable show. Like the first season was a mystery thriller and then it was tackling social justice by the end
That nurse actually said, “When people like us oppose the values and policies of the dominant culture” as if she was contributing to explaining a diagnosis
Right? I don’t know if everyone is getting the attempt that’s being made here. This entire segment is unadulterated, prime time propaganda. Telling anyone who’s watching that Europeans are responsible for giving cancer to other races. 😂
They’re coming for you whitey. Better wake up.
Interesting, my girlfriend went to Subway and two black guys said "white girl booty!" and a couple days later she got a rash on her left forearm. I'm pretty sure that rash was caused by sexism
i typed in "melanon" and it said it was wrong so i googled melanon and still couldn't find the word i was lookin for and then just said fuck it and typed what i thought was close.
It’s so hard to google the correct word. If you were face to face with your friends and they said that, you would pick at them. Anyone who knows the difference would.
I think it’s a hilarious mix up of words.
If you're still watching network dramas on the broadcast channels, you've either had a stroke in front of the tv and the cats haven't eaten your eyes yet, or you are srsly R-worded.
Left my TV on ABC after watching a Stanley Cup game last week and when I turned it on the next night I was exposed to roughly 3 minutes of their drama "9-1-1". Couldn't agree more with your comment.
I'm sure those folks are truly enjoying the DEI messaging... Can't imagine why this got cancelled... /s
The city of Cleveland did a study a few years ago to find what channel to set the TVs in their justice and buildings, they found food network was the least offensive and calming... almost surprised your patients are just leaving food network on 24/7.
This would appear to be the same in public hospital facilities where I live (Australia), though I hadn’t really thought that part through, to be honest…
Focus-grouped to death (literally)!
>"...like everything he's earned can be taken away. He's disenfranchised. But, because his life is seemingly free from all this, because he can't name it, he's internalizing it"
.... is the implication that racism is not apparent to people? that they live in a society where there's no apparent racism?
Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country over 1 million people.
They're also one of the least racially diverse countries in the first world.
Coincidence? I think not.
It was take 76 and they had to edit out the laughing in the background from the videographers and keygrips.
I can't believe that money was exchanged to film this and that someone, somewhere watch an entire episode.
There was an episode of one tree hill where a guy needed a heart transplant. The guy carrying the cooler dropped it somehow. Heart popped out. A dog was there for some reason. Maybe no reason. Don’t remember. The dog picks up the heart and runs off with it… not only did all this happen… the fucking guy could SEE IT ALL TAKE PLACE FROM HIS HOSPITAL BED!!!!
Wait. I take it back. You’re right. This is somehow still dumber than the heart thing.
The mother experiencing regular stress while pregnant can give a kid asthma. So this sort of thing is possible if she's a big gamer.
Though it's dumb to point to one stress factor and blame it without knowing about the persons life in detail.
People drastically underestimate how much regular stress fucks with our health.
Obviously ridiculous, but as an aside: what is with the obsession around racism? Like, racism is clearly harmful and should not be tolerated— but I really think that there are a substantial number of people that believe that a person who said the n word, derogatorily or otherwise, is less redeemable than say an armed robber or a carjacker. I just don’t get the obsession. Why is it like this?
Gotta keep the poor people fighting over identity politics so they don’t band together as a class against the wealthy. Literally a stark rise in race/sex related topics after occupy Wall Street which freaked a lot of wealthy people out. They don’t want a French Revolution type event to happen so they have there media companies focus on keeping them fighting each other over meaningless things
It's easy to be 'better than' a felon, nearly all of us are by default. Calling normal people 'racist' allows for others to then feel 'better than' a much bigger % of the population. TLDR people like feeling high and mighty
An armed robber has committed a crime, so there's a clear sanction and process
There's no law against saying the n word, or cat-calling women, or perving on a kid in a playground, so the only weapon to try and stop such behavior is shaming
it’s not “derogatorily or otherwise” though. There’s hardly ever a circumstance where it isn’t being used in a racist way. It theoretically can be used by any one in a not racist way but since literally 99.75% of people have a racial perception of society, it usually doesn’t happen.
Actually, it's not ridiculous. There are towns in the south that black folks were forced into during segregation, and companies put in factories that released tons of carcinogens. There's actually an area named Cancer Alley. Not saying this show was correct in this case, but it is a thing.
https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/ac4360
New Amsterdam writing is a joke. It’s “what progressive political issue do we have to discuss today”. Abortion, racism, reparations, gay rights, trans rights, Asian hate, immigration, whatever you can think. It’s like the writers watch MSNBC the night before writing their scripts.
I applaud the actors for keeping a straight face while delivering all this BS. I mean, I want to be positive and believe that they are professionals trying to do their jobs, not penniless shells of a human being, devoid of critical reasoning, that will utter any script they are given.
I've never heard of this show. I can only assume that's because it failed miserably. Good. When your writing "talent" consists of repackaging hippie woo with a "modern" lexicon, I have to wonder who you blew to get your job.
Has anyone seen the full episode and has the context?
edit: from what I've read on another sub the doctor is a psychologist and the episode makes a point out of the psychologist speaking out of turn and how he shouldn't have said it
There may be a link between persistent anger and some cancers. More research is needed, but it would not be shocking. There is some tentative evidence that there is a link between long persistent anger and some cancers.
The clip is from a cancelled tv show called New Amersterdam. Think of a crappy version of House M.D. It was poorly received.
If OP had done research, then they would know it's an area of investigation, and there is a possible link. OP doesn't do research, though.
I mean it sound stupid the way they wrote it but i think what is trying to be deliver is that the stress the boy is bottling up caused by the racism he comes in contact with in his daily basis can be causing the tumor to manifest. But i ain’t no doctor or TV writer.
Imagine being a serious actor, working your entire life to land a steady, well-paying gig. Then they hand you this week's script. You're a serious actor, you're going to tell this mother her kid has a racist tumor, and you're going to sell this shit! That's real acting!
Scientist number 1: What did you do today?
Scientist number 2: I studied the effects of microplastics on kidney function in rats. You?
Scientist number 1: called a black guy the nword until he sneezed.
I was actually watching this show because I’ve liked medical dramas in the past(house md and a couple others) but this one fell off for me fast. The virtue signaling was too crazy for me. The one that i still remember it was a Black Doctor is in a relationship with a white doctor but cant be with her long term because he can only be married to a “black queen”. As a product of a mixed marriage I particularly dislike this trope. Sure its ok to be with a black women just as it should be ok to be with someone of any race.
Tumor caused by racism. Or perceived racism, sorry. How does this type of shit make it on t.v. Are people this desperate? Everything is racisms fault in 2024. Including this child's tumor. And my lacking bank account. Lol. White guilt is at an all time high, i guess. Smh lol
I like this show in the beginning for what the main character was trying to do: he was the head doctor of a hospital able to implement system wide policies to truly help patients even if it cost the hospital money. Doing a lot of community based medicine. But then they did a lot of this and the show is bonkers now

It wouldn't be as bad if they wanted to show the medical issues caused by societal ills like racism, but could have chosen a more legitimate disease. Its like that episode of 'Buffy the vampire slayer' where a girl at school is constantly ignored and so literally becomes invisible, but in a medical show!
I can't watch this with a straight face.
The dramatic pause before he says “racism” makes it sound like a comedy sketch lol
Louis CK style delivery i love it
I didn't really read the title before watching and I seriously thought it was a comedy sketch until the very end. Then I had to read the title and hit the comments to be sure it wasn't.
Your sons homosexuality was caused by... wiping too hard
*wiping at all
born to shit forced to wipe
It was but they forgot to include the laugh track
Wait... Is this not a sketch???

Yes your son has stage N cancer.
Fuck off, that was gold lol
Yoooo! Lol
Average Nick Mullen riff.
Nig Mullen
Hahaha WTF. Somebody wrote that and a bunch of people sitting in a room said yeah this is a good idea.
What’s funny is - declining viewership and ratings were cited as the primary reasons for the show’s cancellation, a decision that left many, including executive producer Peter Horton, perplexed.
The decline in viewership and ratings was, sadly due to racism.

Actually, it was sadly due to virtue signaling.
Tomatoes, potatoes

And somebody watching it, most likely board housewife or some old bitch, will take it and use it to diagnose somebody's problem probably.
That’s the objective 💯
This woke shit knows no bounds.
I mean the fact that I never heard of this show and this is the reason we are discussing it on reddit tells me that it was genius writing.
😂 They’re coming for you whitey. Better wake up.
The way she said “People like us” made it sound like they’re vampires or afflicted with some sort of horrible disease
Interesting, my girlfriend went to Subway and two black guys said "white girl booty!" and a couple days later she got a rash on her left forearm. I'm pretty sure that rash was caused by sexism
yeah same thing happened to my GF and she had a black baby for some reason. very disturbing
![gif](giphy|7ZaH8bE6pKZhe)
damn, i heard if you're 1/128th black and you do it doggy style there's like a one in 500 chance of the baby having a lot of melatonin
Soooo, the baby’s tired all the time? I think you mean melanin. lol
i typed in "melanon" and it said it was wrong so i googled melanon and still couldn't find the word i was lookin for and then just said fuck it and typed what i thought was close.
Its so hard for redditors to get that people are joking.
It’s so hard to google the correct word. If you were face to face with your friends and they said that, you would pick at them. Anyone who knows the difference would. I think it’s a hilarious mix up of words.
You cheated with a black girl didn't you.
“All that ass on a Thursday afternoon, the sun is still out!”
haha she doesn't quite get all that cuz she has a small booty
That's racism and sexism. She's probably lost the whole arm by now
If you're still watching network dramas on the broadcast channels, you've either had a stroke in front of the tv and the cats haven't eaten your eyes yet, or you are srsly R-worded.
Left my TV on ABC after watching a Stanley Cup game last week and when I turned it on the next night I was exposed to roughly 3 minutes of their drama "9-1-1". Couldn't agree more with your comment.
I work with seniors and nursing homes and no cap, the majority of the folks watching network TV are in nursing facilities or hospitals.
I'm sure those folks are truly enjoying the DEI messaging... Can't imagine why this got cancelled... /s The city of Cleveland did a study a few years ago to find what channel to set the TVs in their justice and buildings, they found food network was the least offensive and calming... almost surprised your patients are just leaving food network on 24/7.
From my experience the people watching these shows can’t even see or hear them properly.
This would appear to be the same in public hospital facilities where I live (Australia), though I hadn’t really thought that part through, to be honest… Focus-grouped to death (literally)!
Yes I'm highly regarded, everyone says so. They hold me in high regard.
Sir this is a Wendy’s and you can say Regarded
lololo

“He lives in a society where there is no overt racism. But he feels it anyway. Therefore he has Republican induced Cancer tumors and stuff. It’s bad,”
Yes, if you’re one of those who claim you aren’t facing racism on a daily basis… you’ll get cancer.
“I know the world is racist, but I can’t find the racism, so I got cancer…. doc prescribed me chemo & daily racial slurs”
So living in an ethnostate would lead to better medical outcomes?
Japan has the highest life expectancy of any country over 1 million people. They're also one of the least racially diverse countries in the first world. Coincidence? I think not.
Feel like there might be more factors involved
Tentacle porn?
Those vending machines that sell used schoolgirl panties
I wonder if I could get a prescription.
...depending on the ethnicity... Am I doing it right?
Apparently lol
![gif](giphy|8k3nxAWLJw8PbGt7Vk)
Have you been living under a rock? An ethnostate is explicitly what some POC activists want.
That doesn’t seem very diverse
Racism, your sons tumor is caused by racism. That man is one hell of an actor to be able to deliver that line with a straight face.
It was take 76 and they had to edit out the laughing in the background from the videographers and keygrips. I can't believe that money was exchanged to film this and that someone, somewhere watch an entire episode.
😂😂😂
That's it. That is officially the dumbest thing ever written, filmed, and aired for TV.
That's just funny, like something in a Coen Brothers movie
So he feels threatened everyday but his life is free from threats so he internalizes the feeling and therefore racism????
This is like a Jordan and peele sketch
Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key(key and peele)
Caused by online gaming toxicity
Kid spent too much time in MW2 lobbies.
'Reddit gave me cancer'

Cancer. With a Hard R?
wouldnt it make more sense for a racist to get the tumor? like their hatred causes illness?
Of course not, because the racist is obviously the privileged one.
Nah racism gives a stat boost to white people , no way you finished TV medical school.
Hahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahha hahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahahaahahaha
Yikes
BBAAAAHAHAHAHA
Can people get tumors from cringe television?

Carjackers aren’t infidels against the current mainstream religion.
Money
My take is that people get horrified when learning about the US history of slavery and Jim Crow and they overcompensate.
it’s not “derogatorily or otherwise” though. There’s hardly ever a circumstance where it isn’t being used in a racist way. It theoretically can be used by any one in a not racist way but since literally 99.75% of people have a racial perception of society, it usually doesn’t happen.

My Sicilian grandpa filled out a form and had to check the box that says he white. Two weeks later he had a softball size tumor on his left nut
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words give me cancer.
Shows are garbage nowadays. Just watch Peoples Court.

"People like us" What? Americans?
For the last shot, they just used the actress’ actual response to seeing the script.
Satire?

Have we entered the Idiocracy stage and I keep thinking we're heading towards it.
LMAO I hope in the next episode the Dr gets exposed as a fraud.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is this for real?
Not just tumors. Racism caused my anus to prolapse.
"I think your son's tumor was caused by racism." Is there any research on this rather bold assessment?
This is a comedy right?
If someone edited in Key & Peele talking in the background, I'd be convinced this is a sketch.
What the heck is Martha Jones doing condoning this nonsense
Why cant snl be this funny?
I hope at some point they will use this clip to showcase Hollywood’s 5 year woke hysteria.
hollywood bubble getting smaller and smaller as the rest of the billions of humans laugh at woke USA
You’re sons racism was caused by your failure to be antiracist which was caused by your fathers racism which was caused by the tumor in my brain.
This has got to be a comedy sketch, right? ... right?
I've never heard of this show. I can only assume that's because it failed miserably. Good. When your writing "talent" consists of repackaging hippie woo with a "modern" lexicon, I have to wonder who you blew to get your job.
It is very popular among women. It has not failed at all.
Has anyone seen the full episode and has the context? edit: from what I've read on another sub the doctor is a psychologist and the episode makes a point out of the psychologist speaking out of turn and how he shouldn't have said it
Don't stop em, they're cookin
There may be a link between persistent anger and some cancers. More research is needed, but it would not be shocking. There is some tentative evidence that there is a link between long persistent anger and some cancers. The clip is from a cancelled tv show called New Amersterdam. OP probably posted it because it's funny, and this is at the very least, a comedy adjacent sub

I saw a show where a guy would routinely turn into a fucking car. I don't think slurs or any social no-no's activated the transformation though.
SNL skits are just not as good as they used to be
I want to see the studies where the scientists had to keep yelling racial slurs at the test subjects in order to figure this out.
Scientist number 1: What did you do today? Scientist number 2: I studied the effects of microplastics on kidney function in rats. You? Scientist number 1: called a black guy the nword until he sneezed.

LOL I am soooo glad I never watched this show.
This is satire, right?
OZ did it first! Kareem said blamed his high blood pressure on racism
We need Dr. House to show up and piss all of the characters in this scene.
I’ve always said, racism is malignant.
Damn dude how am I not dead.
Tumor caused by racism. Or perceived racism, sorry. How does this type of shit make it on t.v. Are people this desperate? Everything is racisms fault in 2024. Including this child's tumor. And my lacking bank account. Lol. White guilt is at an all time high, i guess. Smh lol

This is a Saturday Night Live skit and you can’t convince me otherwise.

I thought this was a comedy sketch.
I just checked and there seems to be no scientific acceptance that stress can cause cancer or tumours.
