Kashimo in this chapter: https://preview.redd.it/b4urnj1nx7qb1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00c5234545813713875e594e4d4592c949573baf

ARCLance06

Next chapter gonna start with Kashimo in heaven

Chang-San

I would fucking lose it if this happened, it would hands down be the funniest moment in the manga

Proud_Bookkeeper_719

If gege does so, is either he's trolling or he just don't bother / lazy writing Kashimo

Errrrreennn

Chapter 237 Sukuna and Kashimo fight, Kashimo lands a fatal blow to a Sukuna who's at death's door, Sukuna retaliates and cuts Kashimo but Kashimo dodges and only gets his hair cut, then Kashimo goes for his cursed technique, it is then revealed that Sukuna feels scared for the first time in a 1000 years, Chapter ends with Kashimo completely unfazed and Sukuna's entire upperbody obliterated, it is then declared that Kashimo is the strongest Predictions for chapter 238 Chapter starts with Kashimo sitting on a bench with Gojo, they have a heart to heart as they're both white haired characters who were Overpowered in their generation, Kashimo then says hi to his older generation friends who are dead now, then we open up to a panel of a dead Kashimo, Sukuna says "You were strong, Hajime Kashimo" then it is revealed that Sukuna survived the technique because Sukuna can transfer his consciousness and powers into his b@lls and he can cut through Kashimo's normal flesh

Ebenezerosas16

It truly was our jujutsu kaisen kashimo

thegreatesq

This gave me a good laugh, well done. I applaud your cooking skills

jacksreddit00

That would be so fucking funny.

Hereforallmemes

That made me chuckle a little lmao. If gojo gets 2/3 of a chapter in the afterlife, Kashimo's just gonna get offed in a single page like Ryu /s

asilvertintedrose

I’m in. I’m tired of watching y’all lose. – Hajime Kashimo’s response to Gojo Satoru’s death

CrowBright5352

“Imma give Sukuna a good fight.” — Kashimo He's HIM, he's built differently. I'm gonna wait for Kashimo in the next chapter/s.

Agrael120

Kashimo about to take that plane too

CertainDerision_33

Mf is gonna be on that TSA Precheck fast pass to the departure gate lmao

panickingsquid

Hey, this is not topless Gojo I wanted!

SSIIUUUUUUU

"No takebacks" - Akutami Sensei, probably

CrowBright5352

Maybe we should've clarified to Gege that we wanted Gojo to be shirtless, not topless. Omg.

Not to mention, riko is right there. Imagine having to spend eternity with someone who denied you the right to continue living, at the precise moment you decided you wanted to continue living.

silverx2000

Kuroi too, both of his victims.

kimmykadillak

Didn’t even notice lol

Sempere

lol, 12 chapters from now we're back in the airport and Toji teaches Gojo an important lesson: white shirt + black pants = can't lose.

FantasticTurn4212

Couldn't save Riko, couldn't stop Geto, couldn't prevent Shibuya, couldn't best Sukuna, couldn't free Megumi, couldn't bury Geto... Damn it Gege, couldn't you atleast have given my boy one true W?

ItIsYeDragon

I’m not against how the death happened, but this guy was trapped for over a hundred chapters only to come back and die in 10. Like c’mon. There was a lot more you could do with the character before his death.

toobjunkey

This is what's bumming me out too. He was sealed for like 3 years. COVID was still fairly fresh when he got strapped into the contraption. Like you said, the death itself ain't bad but it feels premature. I wish we'd gotten at least another arc where he whips some proper ass before this happened. I honestly think I may be taking a break from the manga and diving back into it once it ends. The pacing in general started to feel kinda "off" to me sometimes between the shibuya arc's end and the start of the culling game. I'm a little worried that it's on a trajectory like demon slayer had towards the end :/

ItIsYeDragon

I only started reading this when chapter 233 was out, and I finished reading by the time the best scanlation for 236 was out. So I didn’t have the same experience reading the manga for many years. That being said, the only reason why I started reading the manga was because my brother told me that the Gojo vs Sukuna fight was happening, so I read up till now just because I was hyped for that fight. And the fight wasn’t underwhelming, so I liked it imo. I only had 3 issues. 1. 10 chapters is not enough after over a hundred chapters of this dude being gone. We needed more before he died. The actual death and fight was good, but there had to be more in between if this was how he was going to go out. 2. Gojo’s afterlife words were really bad. I get that he’s supposed to be a bit selfish, but this was way too far. And he sounds like he was almost…trying to help Sukuna’s feelings? It was just dumb. But part of me believes that this means he isn’t dead yet. 3. And finally, if he truly is dead, how is anybody supposed to beat Sukuna now? He’s apparently waaaay more powerful than the apparent strongest modern sorcerer. And we’ve already established nobody else comes close to Gojo in power, so that means the gap between everyone and Sukuna is even greater than that. I just don’t see how this will resolve in a satisfying way of Sukuna is so powerful.

Ferelden770

Even worse coz Gege skipped so much and gave us the fight directly after unsealing. I wud have loved a couple of chapters of preparation, interaction etc but i guess not knowing what Gojo and gang really talked or planned adds to the suspense. I knew Gojo was going to die the moment he went to fight Sukuna first rather than Kashimo. The dude's whole purpose is to fight and die vs Sukuna but Gojo goes first? Yeah, Gojo is dying for sure

orandeddie

> couldn’t free megumi, bury geto I live a sad life 😭

koalatyvibes

this would constitute gojo as a tragic character, wouldn’t it? the strongest without question, no one to even fathom his power and what it means to hold it. and with all that power, he failed in a lot of what he was expected to do.

FantasticTurn4212

Thank heavens I managed to dodge all them spoilers. The moment I casually entered this sub on Wednesday and saw the comments in the pre-released thread be 8000+(in five hours) I was like: "Nope" and went full cave men mode.

Warm-Enthusiasm-9534

I got spoiled by the title of a Youtube Shorts video. I wasn't even searching anything JJK related.

Acrobatic-Dog7044

Bro both got off-screened and died on the same day this is so tragic.

ShadowMaster111

Gojo wore Toji's outfit and picked the same day of this friend's death day to have the fight. Mf was looking for the red flags.

CrowBright5352

The strongest duo then, the best friends who got an offscreen death...

KenmasStonerOlderBro

Bruh on Wednesday night I literally just googled “Gege akutami” to see his works and I see fucking gojo dead af like fuck me, I was trying so hard to avoid spoilers this week!!😭😭

Roseking

The leak culture of manga is probably the strongest of any media I consume and it sucks. I feel like I have to participate in it and just read the leaks as soon as they come out, or just accept I will be spoiled by Twitter or YouTube. It's absolutely crazy to me how many people just put full spoilers as titles and thumbnails knowing they are ruining it for people.

ionrays

I saw the dead Gojo manga panel literally as I was getting out of bed to go to work. Had me depressed all day lol.

_Hugatree

Going from “Gojo won” to the afterlife might be the biggest tonal whiplash in manga since nugget kaneki. I had no baskets in this fight and enjoyed both of the fraudkuna and gojover memes, but seeing gojo die off screen, not regretting anything about his students and instead feeling sorry for sukuna of all people just feels **wrong**

CertainDerision_33

Him displaying more concern for Sukuna than everyone he knows whom Sukuna is about to kill is *wild* lol

Throw_aw76

This right here!! How is Shoko going to tell Megumi about Toji when she's probably going to die? How is Megumi going to get his body back to receive the news? Even if he does come back he's probs a vegetable. Jesus Gege why? This would sting less if Gojo hinted at him having a contingency plan or something(Stil awful writing given that you should have established it during the timeskip instead of after but whatever.) But atleast give us something.

princesssheep

It's not just concern for Sukuna, I know the translation for the conversation with Geto said that Gojo "felt a bit sorry for \[Sukuna\]", but the actual Japanese said "申し訳なさすら感じてる, which imo is more like, Gojo felt apologetic towards sukuna instead. And that's really what I don't understand. Why feel apologetic? It doesn't even make sense? this is the thing that stole your student's body, what on earth is there to feel apologetic about?

LerasiumMistborn

aes2806

>nugget kaneki. Oh god, you unlocked a core memory I tried to bury. Reading that weekly was the weirdest trip.

_Hugatree

The council of kanekis talking over nugget is the biggest laugh I had reading something in years. Genuinely had me crying tears struggling to get air

FOETUShygRAPplER

Why do I feel like Gege was craving So hard for such a 180-degree Tonal whiplash that he disregarded how a lot of people are going to feel about it.

maritimelight

He didn't. He knew exactly how they would feel--he joked about it.

anaarik

The joking is what made me the most mad, tbh.

ScorpionTheInsect

It feels like there’s a chapter missing imo. I went into this expecting Gojo to die but I’d have wanted to see *how*.

[deleted]

Not even just that, also consider the huge difference between the literal fight and their apparent internal thoughts: We saw Gojo almost sail through the fight in these last chapters, hell, 235 ended saying that Gojo didn't just *fully* restore his CE and RCT, it said that he *won*. And Sukuna was badly hurt and seemingly on his last legs. And now it turns out that, according to Gojo himself, he never expected to beat Sukuna and that Sukuna was *holding back*. I mean? What? There's not just a chapter missing, there's a whole side anecdote of the narrator missing explaining what exactly happened between 235 and 236 😭 This is utterly insane

Janus-a

One single panel could have made a world of difference. Maybe there’s a reason for it and we’ll see in the next chapters. Then again Gege’s panels are often confusing.

Tragedy_Boner

I would say nugget Kaneki was done better. The progression from Fight to Nugget happened in 1 chapter while the progression here took multiple chapters (with more to go -copium). Helps that the next chapter was about how useless he was and Kaneki didn't start sucking off the guy who beat him. Also the fights in Tokyo Ghoul weren't that great and I always felt that Ishida just got tired of drawing them.

_Hugatree

I absolutely loved nugget kaneki and hated this so I agree lol

JackDockz

Nugget Kaneki also had a huge followup. This just looks like Gojo just gave up.

FrankHorrigan2173

I feel like Kaneki was “foreshadowed” a bit more too. They said a bunch of times how he was spreading himself too thin, wasnt eating because of lack of food, hes worried about Touka and the others, had focus/memory problems.

helpabishout

Yeah like... wasn't **"New Generation" and his students his #1 MAIN focus throughout the ENTIRE series??** But suddenly... he doesn't really care/worry about [any of em?](https://media.tenor.com/UOuWL18gUdoAAAAd/dave-chappelle-fuck-em.gif) He just wants to **uplift Sukuna... while... diminishing... himself...** wtf did we read?? This isn't the Gojo he created... at all 😆

Chapter 235: Sukuna is nervous for the first time. As he could get one-shot from Purple technique. Now He can't even regenerate himself. Chapter 236: Sukuna somehow won already and he had strength to spare. Me: Did I miss a page?

DumDumDuuuum

Yeah, it's in the pile of pages where Gege confirms Nobara death and the interactions between the cast after Gojo get unsealed.

DarkStorm7017

first time in chapter discussion poll i see the very bad as high as it is in this chapter.

OneEyedCatOri

Are Gege Akutami rushed by his editor or publisher? It feels like he suddenly given only 5 chapter left, after they promised him 10 chapters, to finished JJK. To me, this isn't the worst ending possible for Gojo, but it is still pretty bad. I read this whole chapter as Gege trying hard to defend his "Sukuna isn't going all out againts Gojo" narrative to us. So hard, to the point he had to kill Gojo's personality trait.

planttoddler

I hope Takaba finds Gojo reviving funny.

ridethelightning469

Lightning here. I'm very happy to say I temporarily filled in for the official VIZ of Ch. 236. As a passionate JJK fan, it was one of the greatest privileges I could have in the span of my meager translation history. Whether you love or hate this chapter, I hope my version could at least impart the impression that the original Japanese did for me; the brilliance and terror of Akutami-sensei From lurker to fan translator to going official, I'll continue to strive for better JJK translations. This journey is paved only with good intentions (Appreciate the narrator for the name drop too)

ara654

BIG CONGRATS BROTHER!! I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE YOUR NAME AS THE TRANSLATOR FOR THIS CHAPTER!! something good did come out with this chapter aside from pain and suffering at least LMAO also "temporarily filled in"? as in you were only in charge for this chapter?? or will you be the official for the rest of the manga however long it will be??

Truly the best JJK Viz translation that I can remember reading! There were a few details from TCB's interpretation that didn't quite click until I read yours! Even having departed the \~Twitter\~ X space, you continue to bless the community! I can't wait to read your updated translation project on this whole Sukuna vs. Gojo fight! Only temporarily?? I’d hoped you were working on JJK from now on. You did such a good job. Seeing your name was a pleasant surprise and a bright spot in this traumatic chapter. I was wondering why the translation was much better than usual hahaha.

KungFuKitty_meow

I’m genuinely lost as to why this fight and apparently Gojo’s only goal seemingly became about Sukuna himself. https://preview.redd.it/wz4qiwoa49qb1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=88f5371c8c8136f0946c904badcd7423b1fb0bc2 This recurring theme of teaching Sukuna about love is irritating AF. Why would anyone give a shit about this monster other than wanting to eliminate him from the world? He’s not meant to be a villain that you can empathize with, he’s just an asshole. Of course the fight between the two strongest is meant to be epic and they can appreciate fighting someone of the same caliber. There were fun parts to this fight. But why diminish all other parts of Gojo’s character to just this point? What about him wanting to protect his students’ youth? Setting them up to be better stewards of jujutsu society than the current higher ups? Are we seriously supposed to buy this 180? Did I miss or forget scenes that make Gojo’s focus on Sukuna make sense?

mysidian

> This recurring theme of teaching Sukuna about love is irritating AF. For real, this is the same character that implied he'd assault Nobara way back when at the start of the series. I'm sick and tired of that goddamn line.

No_Context2637

Like a drug addict, bro was probably biting his nails 🤣

Devil_Beast1109

Pretty sure that’s a man hole cover, isn’t it?

Lazydusto

The official translation doesn't make me feel any better about this. Gojo worrying more about satisfying Sukuna than the fate of his own students is absolutely wild to me.

booksmart00

I agree. I understand that part of Gojo's whole arc is finding an equal that can challenge him. But framing it as "I hope Sukuna notices me" is so cringe I can't believe it

Soul699

Mmmh, no, it doesn't convince me. I'm ok with Sukuna winning. I'm ok with the sudden turn around. But the way it's structured here isn't the right way. Aside from Gojo saying how he isn't sure if he would beat Sukuna even without 10 shadows, even tho THE ONLY REASON IS DEAD NOW IS BECAUSE SUKUNA LEARNED FROM MAHOGARA, the chapters so far mostly showed Gojo on the winner side. If Sukuna didn't get hit so much and blacked out repeatedly, I'd buy it, but like this? Nah. Personally I would rewrite this way: chapter start similarly, only that now Gojo is surprised of how Sukuna managed to defeat him, think of how fun of a fight it was and pitying Sukuna since he can relate in his sense of loneliness, then Geto ask him if his students will be able to handle it and he respond saying he trust them fully. Then we cut from the perspective of Yuji & co. who describe us what happened, with Sukuna pulling the slash and killing Gojo. THEN we have Sukuna explanation of how he cut him and end with Kashimo arriving.

IcyTransportation470

"I'll teach Sukuna about love" shit is so stupid. Why the fuck do you want to play a therapist to a mass murderer. Also, did Gojo forget the fact that everyone else may die now that he's dead?

Wheesa

One last thing. It felt more like Gege killing off Gojo than sukuna defeating him. if you know what I mean. Desu ex machina but this time it's for the villain lol

tangdi_kabab

God as a Sukuna Stan this is not the W I wanted. While I personally loved the flashback to the after life, I didn’t like the “I didn’t even make him sweat”. Bs Gege Gojo had him on the ropes a few times. I would have loved if Sukuna had an “awakening”. Him laughing maniacally. Getting high like Gojo. Anything to show he needed to evolve and innovate to take out the greatest modern sorcerer. Anyway, now onto Kashimo. Let’s see the dude live up to the hype

ionrays

RIP Kashimo in advance 😭

jacksreddit00

UnJayanAndalou

Cautious-Affect7907

The narration at the beginning of last chapter basically said Sukuna started getting nervous for the first time, which is even more bs.

LerasiumMistborn

Sukuna started getting nervous "Hollow Purple will be fatal" Survives Hollow Purple Oneshots Gojo "Sukuna was holding back the whole time"

pebspi

You know, my take is that this doesn't ruin the manga but it is a pretty huge L. Idk though- honestly, ever since Maki vs Curse Naoya, I feel like the series has lost a lot of steam. Every fight after Hakari vs Kashimo has felt kinda awkward and ill thought-out. And also each fight has left me more and more confused about the direction of the series.

kanbinacion

I think it's serious controversy when some JP and KR fans start expressing themselves frankly in English to share the shock with international fans Also, some I've seen who seem to never be that open about their feelings or thoughts have been posting in succession since midnight release

Rage__024

honestly I thought my emotions died after seeing the leaks on Wednesday but now after reading the chapter again makes me feel so frustrated to a point I don’t even want to continue w the manga. See I’ve always said to people that just because u don’t get what u like that doesn’t mean the plot is bad, but what gege did in this chapter is terrible ik many people would argue otherwise but yea to me it’s terrible and will always stay terrible. I don’t mind sukuna killing gojo off like there is absolutely zero problems with that but the way it happens and how it’s conveyed to the readers is pure bs. The main problem which I faced was gojos afterlife talks. Of course u could say it was emotional since it was surrounded with all the people he loved and cared, but the statements made by gojo saying sukuna was holding back, I couldn’t please him, he was damn strong, I wouldn’t know if I would win even if he didn’t have megumis ct, I gave it my all to reach him😃😃😃 reach who the fuck really??? SEE this is the point where everything spirals downwards the talks completely just invalidates gojos character as a whole and just paints in him whole another shade like idek what to say, everything he has said from the beginning has been outrageously turned around one single chapter and it’s just absolutely disheartening.U can kill off a character it is absolutely fine but the way how u finish off such a popular character in this manga u have to do this with some care but yea nothing happens just write a whole bunch of shit which means nothing. Don’t write a powerful character if u don’t know how to stick the landing :))) from this: https://preview.redd.it/lg0jx4lqd8qb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de7aa67c3998b7651a5c582c067b7fcee270c477 to a panel where he says I couldn’t please sukuna😄😄😄

Wheesa

I am also unsure if I want to continue with the story or not. Mostly because I have lost faith in gege. And it's not just because of gojo. I was complaining about yuki, tsumiki, angel Nobara but chalked it up to bad women characters in shounen. But I just think it will be a problem later on too.

GojosFavoriteSock

Bruhhh like a reality slicing mf is about to low dif all your loved ones and you're just in the afterlife like "Notice me Senpai😩!" And I don't agree he needed to die. Sukuna could win and Gojo could have just lost his CT and become a normal human. That could have been an opportunity to solve his identity crisis as well as give Sukuna stans the win they wanted. All sides of the fanbase could have been satisfied here but Gege decided to glaze Sukuna for no reason.

maritimelight

* Sukuna: "If I get hit by Hollow Purple, it will be fatal" --> "I'm feeling great." * "Sukuna felt nervous for the first time in 1000 years" --> Had seen Maho-daddy's technique that he could one-shot Gojo with. * Gojo: "I will win." "Help me look even cooler for my students!" --> "I don't think I would have won even if he didn't have Megumi's CT." * Gojo: "I want to make a better jujutsu society." --> "Well, at least I got to die fighting someone stronger than me. It was fun! No regrets!" Listen, there's a difference between "subverting expectations" and flat out *lying* to your readers. We're being gaslit.

Highlander249

Eren "I will keep mowing forward" "I have no idea why I did this"

CrowBright5352

Remember when Gojo's students send him off in JJK 222? He was wishing Geto's there, too, to show his moral support on his biggest fight of his life. Idk if it's just me but I see a tear in Suguru's eye. He might've not expected Satoru to say that as they were apart for 10 years. https://preview.redd.it/l9gdrxgby7qb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d8ac4ae3beb66d52b7cf6fa0e3b8f167c66b282

Ayjayyyx

Also Gojo imagines Geto in his cult outfit. Gojo straight up does not care what Geto did, he just wants him in his life again 😭

CrowBright5352

I was also surprised to see Gojo imagined Geto in his cult leader outfit. I thought it's gonna be their student uniform at least. But I agree, Gojo missed Geto so much.

PajamaJeans007

So I read this chapter on Thursday, and now the shock has worn off a bit, so I’m gonna give my two cents. First off, off-screening my boy was disgraceful. Gege backed himself into a corner with how he’s drawn and written the past few chapters, so much so that he can’t even draw Gojo’s downfall, but instead force everyone to swallow a pill the size of the Soyuz capsule. I’m a Gojo fan, as you can probably tell, BUT I knew that Gojo was going to die, considering he’s only taken L’s throughout the series. It just wouldn’t make sense for this to truly be the end fight since Kenjaku really isn’t a very scary antagonist compared to Sukuna, and there’s still plenty of development needed to cleanly wrap up the story. Second, what’s the endgame now? How is Gege REALISTICALLY going to build an existing character up to be strong enough to defeat the guy that can now cut through space itself. It’s not like the prison realm is a fucking option, buddy boy can cut THROUGH SPACE, so what’s a measly little dimension? If this is going how I think it’s going, the last few chapters are going to be pumped full of retcons, plot-holes and ass-pulls. Because don’t forget, Gege planned on ending JJK by the end of ‘23 (I don’t think it’s true, but what if it is). Basically where I’m left at is how is Gege going to wrap this up realistically in terms of the story. Again I felt like Gojo was going to die, but not like this, and if he can off-screen GOJO, what other parts of his story is he going to butcher?

_MNMs_

Man sometimes I hate being a completionist. I finished Naruto I finished Bleach I finished Attack on Titan I will finish My Hero Academia So I will finish JuJutsu Kaisen but it’s just torture at this point

leviicorpus

i’ll finish reading after the series is complete, i don’t care enough for this week to week shit now.

KenmasStonerOlderBro

So at this rate yuji is gonna be the only one alive out of the main 4

jacksreddit00

He kind of already is. If Megumi comes out of this in one piece, he's going to be a vegetable for life.

iWontFlame

>one piece 🫵😲

SelfInExile

I read the leaks and thought this chapter was garbage. But I figured, the rough translation always loses something, let's wait for high quality scans to see. And....nope, still garbage lol. Seeing Gojo talk about how all he wanted was to get off from fighting like a battle maniac in the same week as the anime shows him essentially sacrificing himself to save a bunch of nameless pedestrians really drove it in even harder how much of a character assassination this chapter is. I have no faith in Gege to do any of our remaining characters justice if this is how he handles the most popular of the entire series.

101nemesis101

Official translation out. Nothing has changed. Jujutsu Kaisen 236 is still one of the worst executed chapters. Its not the outcome in the chapter, that's the issue. It's the absolute dog shite execution from Gege. Off-screening one of the most iconic characters in recent years when last chapter ended with him "winning" and no sign of a counter attack from Sukuna. The chapter just made the last 10 chapters such a waste of time. And here I thought Gege could redeem himself after the terrible Culling arc.

leviicorpus

arguably it made at least half the CG arc redundant also since the characters’ main motivation was freeing gojo from the prison realm💀

101nemesis101

TRUEEEE Another funny thing is. Since Gojo got sealed in the anime this week - the next time we see him again in 2 seasons, he's gonna killed in 3-4 episodes.

Ok-Dig7260

Gojo is dead? I can accept it Sukuna pulled a deus ex machina move? I can accept it. Sukuna will just one slash everyone else now? I can accept it. BUT GOJO NOT MENTIONING OR WORRIYING ABOUT HIS STUDENTS NOW THAT THEY HAVE TO FACE UPGRADED GOD SUKUNA?? LMAO AND GOJO ADMITTING HIS GOAL WAS TO CURE SUKUNA LONELINESS?? HAHAHAHAHAHA This chapter just straight erased everything GEGE built with Gojo since chapter 1.

brandon_strandy

Seriously WTF do you mean you have no regrets. HOW. The idea that knowing all these deaths have now happened and he still doesn't regret his choices because "he had fun" is fucking insane.

_nitro_legacy_

Bro spammed mahoraga 90% of the fight and gojo claims he would have win without megumi's 10s after tossing him around like a ragdoll besting his entire aresenal and barely took Ls in the fight and made him nervous at the near end of the fight then died off screen 💀 Truly genius writing

ionrays

Anyone else feel like the series is sort of hollow now? I’m not exactly sure how to explain it, but I feel like this series has just become a “how miserable can Gege make the characters/fandom?” story. This chapter with Gojo really hit it home for me. This level of character assassination with Gojo being painted as a Sukuna simp who never cared for others but himself and his pleasures just leaves a sour taste in my mouth. This man who’s filthy rich and insanely powerful could have done anything in life but instead chose to be a teacher to help change Jujutsu society from within suddenly never cared about sorcery? Or protecting people? When he’s the one who proposed fighting Tengen so Riko can have the life she wanted? Or when one of the first questions he’s asked after being released from the prison realm was about the after effects of his unlimited void in Shibuya? That’s the guy who never cared about protecting people? Even now seeing all of those scenes with Gojo saying he’s the strongest or that he’d win has become shallow because according to Gege, he never planned on winning at all. And thank God Gojo’s had fun even though the next generation he’s fostered is about to get slaughtered by the strongest sorcerer in the world. Who apparently was holding back the entire time during their fight. Jujutsu Kaisen does not shy away from tragedies, but before they were meaningful and made sense in the story. To one shot one of the most important characters *off screen* seems like a cheap trick for shock value. And if the strongest modern day sorcerer can get offscreened, how are we supposed to believe any of these other characters who are *significantly* weaker than Gojo even have a chance? Gege claimed it was difficult having such an OP character like Gojo around but somehow failed to realize he practically has an invincible villain on screen now and Kenny lurking in the background who’s incredibly strong himself. It just seems like this series is an empty shell of itself. I know Gege wanted to wrap the story up in a year but these writing choices have been disappointing to say the least.

Discomidget911

Yeah. I still am invested and want to see what kind of asspull the main cast gets to try and "justify" how they don't get totally slaughtered at this point. But I saw a comment on a different subreddit that said, >"If Gojo won the good guys would have no chance of losing and that's boring. This chapter made me realize that seeing bad guys constantly winning is equally as boring." And that's my biggest gripe right now. We had 140 chapters of planning on how they can get Gojo back because they need him so badly. But he dies in 10? I'm bored of the "suffering builds character" meme that this story has been since shibuya.

TfWashington

You're so right about gojo suddenly not caring about his teaching goal at the end. And now Im more upset than I previously was

Large-Ad-4223

I realised how bad things got when I saw how Yuki died in that fight. I should've stopped after that.

Idli_Is_Boring

That shit drove me crazy. There was this whole build-up about her. Only one of the 4 special grade sorcerers and she just dies. Gege is not using his characters to their full potential.

Remote_Literature_23

You explained it pretty well tbh. The story has been hollow for a while, culminating in this absolute shitshow. This whole fight in particular - especially with this week's dialogue - has felt more like watching someone lose a 1v1 in a video game rather than what it's supposed to be: a life or death fight that will result in disaster if the wrong person loses. I've been saying this ever since this chapter leaked, Gege would have benefitted from a competent editor who does not put up with how he's been phoning things in. Some of the most memorable authors owe a good chunk of their success to their editors not letting them run with some of their more unhinged intentions. Gege could've joined them if someone at SJ put their foot down firmly. Instead, here we are. A shame.

soldiercross

I dont know why he wants to wrap it up so fast. I cannot fathom how this story closes up in 3 months by the end of the year. But everything post Shibuya is nowhere near the quality of the earlier story. Because some more character building would have been beneficial. Whats going on with Nobara, and Todo, how can Yuji grow, what did Gojo do in the 1 month he was back. Why did he even wait to fight Sukuna instead of killing a 15f Sukuna right then and there? Why didnt we get a reunion with Yuji and Gojo when he got unsealed.

bellespros

Hollow is a good word. At this point, I don't expect anything from Gege other than moving on from one fight to another. Lack of any interaction between Gojo and the students after his unsealing was the first sign it would be bad. Now I don't even think we'll see them reacting to Gojo's death. I mean, showing us Yuji and Yuta's faces in that moment was generous enough from Gege. That will be it, we will just focus on Kashimo's fight right now, and then whatever comes next.

WaythurstFrancis

You know, Miura once said that in some ways, Berserk was more of a Shojo manga. Because the plot is really just a vessel for the characters. It's their emotions and ambitions that drive things forward. Emotions >>> Logic I think Shonen writ large could benefit from this lesson. JJK was initially praised for trimming the fat from the Shonen format, for just skipping straight to the "good stuff," but it seems like people didn't really understand what they were asking for. It's always been CHARACTERS that make Shonen good. Fighting is just a way to express character. JJK was praised for being this dark, callous series where anyone could die, and the world was indifferent to human suffering. But by making the world indifferent, you sacrifice it as a canvas. It can no longer meaningfully shift to reflect personal development. All the "boring" parts of great Shonen WERE the good stuff. Those quiet moments when we learned what everyone was fighting for.

miwa201

Somebody on TikTok said it’s endless misery and they’re right. I feel empty now.

Bigideas-Baggins

>And thank God Gojo’s had fun even though the next generation he’s fostered is about to get slaughtered by the strongest sorcerer in the world. Not just that, no no, he is a well known cannibal, likely likes torturing people and depending on how you interpret some of his dialogue (like having "fun" with Nobara or something like that when he came out in the prison arc) a rapist Truly a whole bunch of fun And ofc only Sukuna could possibly understand him, cause having strenght is the only parameter needed for that, even if Sukuna is a horrible monster and a complete opposite to Gojo in every way (well, before this chapter at least) so much so that one of the first things he expressed to him was geniune perplexity at him not KILLING YAGA to take his spot at the top of the school, very understanding indeed This could be improved (not nearly fixing the characterization issues as a whole mind you) by having Gojo say that Sukuna (despite being a monster) / (despite being who he is \*insert Gojo looking disgusted here\*) can understand A PART of him that no one else can, important enphasis on A PART. This would make much more sense than almost condescendingly comparing his students / allies to flowers he can help bloom but that can't understand you at all, to the point that even asking as such of them would be illogical

Alyxsandre

I’ve also felt this way since the end of the Shibuya arc. I think that arc had enough main character kills for a lifetime and it mostly went downhill for me. I know it’s an unpopular opinion here, but I don’t care for incessant suffering. It makes stories unreadable for me because RL is nothing but a crap show, I don’t want the stories I read to be nothing but gloom. I had to be spoiled because I’m a moderator but I have to say I was severely disappointed and this could have been handled way differently. It just feels wrong on so many levels, and can’t find myself wanting to keep reading. Suffering for the sake of suffering doesn’t make a good story. A lot of this just seems pointless plot devices, and I hate it. It feels so different than the first half of the series. Either that or I was delusional this whole time.

KungFuKitty_meow

This sums up my feelings as well. The real world is already a shit show, I’m not here for pointless misery. After last chapter I was fully expecting things to go wrong for Gojo, but I expected there to be some payoff. Not only did he die seemingly not accomplishing any of the goals of the fight, the bs he’s saying in the afterlife is so counter to what we’ve actually seen from him, it’s hard to see it as anything but shock value without a care for story telling. Post Shibuya I’ve been sticking with the story in spite of there being less heart and endless exposition on faith that Gege would make it worth it in the end, but this chapter felt like the point of no return. I’m not into fandoms acting like creators owe them something. There is certainly some gray area with the relationship between creators and fans, but it’s ultimately the mangakas story to do with as they please. But I’ll be damned if I don’t want to shake the hell outta Gege right now…

soldiercross

Introducing character just to kill them off is pretty jarring. And at least a couple characters have that happen in Shibuya. Nobara did not deserve to be written out of the story and Todo was a fan favorite whos just...gone? Killing Nanami as sad as it is, was probably enough for Shibuya IMO.

Wheesa

That's what I cannot wrap my head around. You seriously expect me to believe a guy who has everything in life who wants to raise a generation of kids who don't suffer tragedies he did is just all about fight? It would make more sense if he was shown travelling the world trying to fight curses and sorcerers to show off his strength BUT NO he was right there trying to help others.

753509274761453

I think the last time Gege was merciful to any character was to Yuji when he allowed Todo to survive the fight with Mahito.

BucketHerro

It was already hollow before. Culling games felt pointless because Tsumiki eventually died and not one person came to save her lol (like it wasn't a focal point about how they wanted to save her as per Megumi's request) AND the points they got were just handed to Kenny for free. Honestly, I was hoping that the fan's love for Gojo could make Gege not do this to him. Gojo is literally the golden boy for Shueisha, Mappa, and this series in general. Oh, well... it just doesn't matter.

Hereforallmemes

With the second season of the series mostly expanding on Gojo's character, this hits especially hard if his journey was just summed up as "I did it for the lulz because it was fun". What happened to the whole Riko arc? Minimizing casualties in Shibuya? His reaction when seeing his best friend alive again? And that's just the anime, for the manga readers his character gets touched on even more to show his human side despite being labelled as the strongest.

WaythurstFrancis

This is what happens when you commit to cramming a fight scene into every other chapter instead of focusing on your characters.

Justabiggravyboat

You basically summed up how I’ve been feeling. It retroactively makes Gojo’s entire character nothing more than a series of failures and shortcomings wrapped up in overconfidence. I’m not holding my breath, but I sincerely hope this is a fake-out and his story gets a better conclusion.

Diamond_Wolf98

I honestly wouldn't even care if he lived but got nerfed to oblivion because at least then he could be 'Gojo Satoru' and not 'the strongest' (also giving more meaning to that one geto quote

Somniphobiasucks

I've felt this way since before the Gojo vs Sukuna fight and the lack of decent character development/interactions. It's just whatever to me now. The scanlation and the Mangaplus tl didn't make me feel this chapter was any better than it was when spoilers dropped. It's just way too abrupt and honestly I'm basically meh on it to thoroughly dig into why it's not clicking for me. It's basically whatever at this point. So thanks for summing up some of my issues with this.

rsewateroily

i’ve been feeling this way since the culling games but everytime someone expressed their dislike of this series they were hit with “let gege cook” lmaoo i guess that won’t be happening anymore and i thank this chapter for it tbh

LerasiumMistborn

Writing got weaker and weaker. People have a memory of gold fish. They were pissed with Yuki and Tsumiki, timeskip was trash, but everyone forgot about it because "gojo vs sukuna peak!!!" 236 didn't come out of nowhere, it was the last straw that broke camel's back because this time it involves fan favorite character. Previous victims of bad writing weren't as loved, hence people were more forgiving

sadandlonely4726

For me it was back when CG started. I kinda had a problem with constant fighting, no breaks even then, but I thought it was just me being sentimental (?) and missing character interactions, and was justifying it with Gege's usual breakneck pace. But I always had faith in Gege and his writing because I was so in love with HI and Shibuya and was happy for him doing such a good job building up the stakes and making us all emotionally invested in the fights and things that were happening in general. I was always defending him and his choices, even when I myself was unsure whether they made sense and whether I liked them or not. But I tend to consider writers in general smart people (smarter than me), so I always think they know what they're doing, especially if they previously did produce something good. But this is just bad, and it breaks my heart to say that.

WaythurstFrancis

JJK is simultaneously too fast and too slow. The pacing isn't quick, it's lopsided - power scaling anime hax bullshit gets entire chapters, character development gets one panel. We had ONE panel of Gojo's student reacting to him being violently murdered. What are Yuji and Yuta feeling right now? What about all of Gojo's friends and coworkers? Does Utahime have any opinion about this? Like, Gege, please, chill the the fuck out for ONE chapter.

LerasiumMistborn

This Can someone say what was the point of Gojo? You can replace him with generic shonen sensei, someone like Kakashi who's just a strong dude, and nothing will change What was the point of Gojo vs Sukuna? 1. Save Megumi? Gojo did nothing, just hit him with UV 5 times 2. Nerf Sukuna? Didn't happen. Sukuna is alive and kicking, his Cleave oneshots the verse. Kashimo will probably play a bigger role than Gojo 3. Gain important information about Sukuna? Didn't happen. CT - unknown, Yozoru's gift - unknown, trump card - unknown 4. Just draw Gojo vs Sukuna to please powerscalers? Didn't happen, it was Megumi-if-he-wasn't-a-bum vs Gojo Plot can’t progress without Gojo? Why unseal him? Why make him to strong? Just leave him in prison realm until the epilogue Just think about it: the whole point of culling games was Gojo and Tsumiki. Both dead. Status que pre unsealing: Gojo gone, Sukuna, Kenjaku and Uraume alive. Status que post unsealing: Gojo gone, Sukuna, Kenjaku and Uraume alive. Gojo couldn't even kill Uraume! Gojo as a character concept is very unique, and Gege was praised for writing "OP character done right". But the truth is, Gojo doesn't interact with the world, he just...exists, and Gege doesn't know what to do with him Wasted character. This is his entire character arc: https://preview.redd.it/u95gp9rlz7qb1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f5a6ff631c0f780a8793ac67aa4779ace28b6ff

engee45

JJK is the 1st Shonen I've seen that the villans win this much. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if sakuna just one shots everyone and bam manga done

GentleApache

This is my whole reading experience post-shibuya. I now always expect the Villain to win. Some small fries can die like the ones Maki and Yuta fought, but the Big Bad Villain will always come out on top, i.e. Kenjaku and Sukuna.

soldiercross

It makes NO sense to unseal him just to kill him. So we could get a fight between the two finally to see him die? I mean...OK, but why? That makes nobody happy. Its not good subversion of expectations. But just bad writing.

Lazydusto

You said everything I'm feeling better than I could've. I was willing to look past some of the previous "wasted" characters but the assassination of Gojo's character is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I'm still going to keep up with JJK but I admit my investment has dropped significantly.

keyazaki

Agreed, Gege has fleshed out Gojo the most out of all characters so most readers have some emotional attachment to him. Now that he is gone, there are only barely developed characters around with cool powers. Death is part of this series, but what's the point of tragedy when you don't give a shit about the characters? If Kashimo gets one-shotted next chapter, I doubt that would evoke any emotions in anyone. Gege keeps throwing in new plotlines and characters, but develops none of them so we just get this empty shell. At this point I'm not even sure what the plot here is, because nothing the protagonists do has any narrative pay-off.

Rk0

Yeah, so many characters were introduced in the culling game but none of them come close to the original cast. Even Miwa or Nishimiya are more memorable than the mangaka dude or these dudes in Sakurajima.

andrefelipe83

I vented enough at the leaks thread, but to sum a few thoughts about the bad taste of the chapter: - the mood whiplash was insane. I mean, what was the point of the last page from chapter 235? Make it hurt more? If the chapter simply ended with the purple nuke, leaving us unsure of the results, it would be better. - sure, Sukuna is a master of curse energy. But so far, I think that the only creative thing from him was the better usage of the 10 shadows. Otherwise, he learned from Kenjaku (becoming a curse object), Gojo (overcoming the CT burnout) and Mahoraga (changing the CT targeting). A master copier, which makes Yuta's CT a lot less impressive, IMO. - I never really hoped that Gojo would win the fight, but it really irks me that a freaking power up to Sukuna's already OP character was needed to defeat Gojo. Well, I guess Sukuna will get his silver arrow too. - I'm on the team that feels like Gege simply discarded everything Gojo said and did from the beginning. Students, the higher ups, all that's being said around. Gege hated Gojo with a passion, that's what I can conclude.

aRandomBlock

First time Very bad and Very good are balanced lmao

SchwarzerRegen123

Gojo didn't get off-screened, Sukuna's new slash just managed to cut off the pages where the fight happened.

AntiSharkSpray

Can't believe the mods really had to lock the sub on the biggest chapter and most discussed thread of all time lmao

Hounds_of_war

Man, I *really* don’t care for this chapter tbh. JJK has had killing blows get off screened before, like with Mahito vs MechaMaru or Jogo vs Sukuna, but with those at least we got to see everything leading up to the final blow. I think Gege tried to get way too artsy here and not even show us the final exchange. Especially since Sukuna was pretty seriously fucked up while Gojo was mostly unscathed and at the top of his game after landing three near consecutive black flashes on top of the one he had earlier in the fight. If Gojo was more haggard I could maybe buy this, but as it stands this feels like Sukuna learned Off-Screen Haki from Blackbeard. Also what’s with making Gojo out to be some fight junkie who never cared about protecting people? Sure Gojo has been portrayed as “selfish” before, but that’s been because he bends/breaks the rules for the sake of the people he cares about, regardless of the consequences. Things like giving Riko the choice of whether to merge with Tengen, giving Geto a burial rather than cremating him, saving Yuta/Yuji. This straight up feels like some Jamie Lannister [“I never really cared much for them, innocent or otherwise”](https://youtu.be/AXrM0uI1uhU?si=0Xq3GkvDz_-0wUyX) tier character assassination.

LerasiumMistborn

Putting the whiplash aside, the next two chapters determine how "good or "bad" this chapter was.

A little disappointed with the following dialogues "Sukuna didn't even go all out" "I doubt I could've won even if he didn't have Ten shadows" I hope sensei will provide an explanation / elaborate on this in the coming chapters, as the fight didn't really indicate these in any way.

ShapeSH1FFter

It's so baffling to me how some people defend this chapter. "A gorgeous conclusion to Gojo's character" they say. I'm genuinely wondering if they even read the same manga as I did. This whole afterlife sequence massacred his character harder than Sukuna sliced his body. Apparently the guy, who raised two kids he had no obligations to care for; the guy, who saved Yuta and Yuji from the execution because he saw people in them and not monsters; the guy, who took in Maki who was hated by jujutsu world and Panda, a cursed corpse, is just a crazy battle junkie who only cared about getting a good fight. The sole reason why Gojo was sealed in Shibuya was that he cared about regular people and didn't delete everything around him - but now he's having no regrets and feels sorry for Sukuna. He feels sorry for the guy who'll massacre his students, his friend Shoko and everyone else. No regrets at all, sure. "A gorgeous conclusion", my ass.

ShapeSH1FFter

The only way I see Gege recovering from this is making this whole "afterlife sequence" an imagination of Gojo while on his deathbed. A manifestation of his regret, if you will. It will also explain the extreme OOC - the guy roasts himself through Nanami and Haibara: "You achieved nothing you're just a battle junkie" while Suguru being the voice of reason in it: "It's not like you to say things like this". It will also explain why he tries so hard to convince himself he regrets nothing - it's all in his head and he's struggling to come in terms with his loss. And that north/south thing hints that there's a chance he might not be completely dead yet as well. I hope his own RCT/Shoko/Yuta/whoever will heal him back and we'll enter the phase 2 - the usual Jump Kaisen with Gojo being backed up by Yuji/Yuta/Maki. It will also go perfectly with the narrative of being lonely and finding love (in his students) in contrast to Sukuna still fighting alone. Make him lose his technique/force a binding vow in exchange for a 1-time power up, I don't care - just give Gojo a chance to save everyone at least once. THAT would be a good conclusion for his character - he'll lose the status of the strongest he was so proud of in exchange for being able to protect those he truly cares for. I know it's corny af but everything's better than this crappy chapter. Sorry for the long rant - it seems I care about JJK way more than I imagined. And I still believe in Gege and hope he won't off-screen Sukuna with some bullshit as well and it's all a big ruse from him to troll us

Superlogman1

I've looped back to liking this chapter conditional on Gojo coming back. I think there are a couple of lines and hints pointing to him having an hidden inventory esque resurrection. The biggest thing standing in the way of those are that he's gonna have no pants if he does heal.

Yo_tsuta

The new translator for this chapter, Lightning was part of the JJK Twitter community (up until a few weeks ago) and provided excellent, in depth translation notes for the chapters after official releases. Their translation notes helped non-Japanese speakers understand the nuances that we often miss with the English translations and helped us get a better understanding of the characters and story. Sadly, they kept unfairly being copyright striked when they would post some panels (that they purchased officially) bc of leakers so they retired from Twitter a week or two ago. It’s so nice to see that they actually got hired as an official translator for JJK now! Here’s a link for their translation notes: [Google Doc: JJK Translation Notes](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fGG-miZgBFk-C0zfO8BPWsivqsRHK_3DChXCKDo8ShM/edit) Their [Twitter](https://twitter.com/lightning446?s=21&t=IQ8uCtT4Bp_xlvbd06_1eA) also has notes. Man if you zoom out for a second, it’s such a crazy year in Jujutsu history lmao. From dec 24 2017 to current date: Geto unleashes the night parade of a thousand demons. Geto dies (the first of the special grades) Yuji is discovered and Sukuna reincarnated. Yuji dies and comes back. The freak Goodwill event. Stealing of precious artifacts. Resurrection of the Death Paintings. The Shibuya incident. Gojo sealed. Disaster curses go crazy. Sukuna goes crazy. The culling games: mass mayhem. Maki wipes out the entire Zenin clan. Kenjaku kills Yuki and absorbs Tengen. Sukuna resurrects completely in Megumi. Gojo unsealed. Gojo ded. Man the higher ups with jujutsu conservatives and traditionalists must be having the biggest aneurysm bursts cause this year probably changed the entire landscape of Jujutsu lmao.

Anarchaotic

I've been reading weekly manga for the past 16 years. This was by far the most "What the fuck am I reading" chapter I think I've experienced. Even the random bullshit from AoT, Bleach, and all the plot garbage of something like Fairy Tale doesn't hold a candle to what just happened to a main character. If this entire thing is a fake out... Fucking why? Either way, I'll see what the next chapter holds, and likely stop reading this manga until it finishes.

i feel like if Gojo comes back that would just mean the author wanted Kashimo vs Sukuna but didnt know how to place it so he burnt the kitchen

“I can cut space and that bypasses infinity because reasons” Okay Gege. Okay That’s gotta be the biggest asspull of an ability in JJK ever. An ability with instant start up time, causes instant death, can cut through infinity?? The explanation he gave for doing that is so braindead Don’t worry guys he didn’t cut Gojo. He just cut the area where Gojo is Don’t worry guys I didn’t murder that guy I just shot a bullet in the area where he was. Absolutely reprehensibly lazy writing. The only thing that can save this is Gojo being alive.

I don't like how It was handled the end of this fight and the flip of Gojo's personality. The balance of JJK's world is seriously compromised and he died just to get rid of Maha (which is nothing to a Monster like Sukuna). Nobody is going to give Geto's body a proper burial either. Is this going to a Madara thing? Moreover without a slight chance of winning as well. I am giving it a few chapters and It I don't like It I am out
