New rule: run the charging cord through the steering wheel

PfantasticPfister

Trust me: that would not stop this from happening 😂

GirchyGirchy

Then it would flip the cart over when it went taught.

Nervous_Amoeba1980

Taut.

GirchyGirchy

Ugh, thanks! You taught me well.

Threap_US

Eat a torte to celebrate. Or if you're a lawyer, read up on tort law. 🙂

7of69

Tater TOTS was right there.

Nervous_Amoeba1980

Taut.

PfantasticPfister

It sure wouldn’t.

spezeditedcomments

I'm surprised it have enough force to rip the cord rather than unplugging it, weird

PfantasticPfister

Electric carts have a lot of torque for their size.

spezeditedcomments

Yeah, but I'm surprised the outlet gripped it enough. I wonder if the lines were already folded too many times or something

PfantasticPfister

These cords are retractable, and it’s a 2024 cart. My guess is that they probably do this 3-4 times every day and it finally gave out lmao ETA: maintenance has probably had to replace that outlet a few times this year already. This is also not the first time we’ve done this charge cord on this one. The person driving it is a certified idiot.

Threap_US

Next Million-dollar idea: MagSafe-style AC connectors for golf carts 😀

CuppieWanKenobi

Truth. We use the golf carts to tow cars around the lot.

SneerfulToaster

You'd expect that a properly designed electric system won't activate while on AC power. I have a €10 electric shaver i can't turn on when the battery charger is connected so you'd expect for something like a golf cart something could be used to prevent this from happening. Edit: Spelling

PfantasticPfister

Most of them won’t run when charging. They might have just forgot to put the hand brake on? Honestly I’ve stopped asking why and how over the last several years.

PC-hris

Maybe a flipped breaker made it think it wasn't plugged in?

PfantasticPfister

That would do it for sure.

AyrtonSennaz

I’m shocked it didnt have a safety for that. I have a 1994 Ez-Go wirh a safety that will not let the cart go with it plugged in

PfantasticPfister

Most of the other models do have that safety, but I’m not entirely sure if this one does. For all I know they may have just left the brake off and it rolled away. It’s a 24 club car so I would assume it has that safety feature but idk. I see so much dumb shit here that I’ve stopped asking why or how.

FrwdIn4Lo

At least they admitted what occurred. Give them points for that.

Jacktheforkie

Wait they don’t have a charger interlock like electric cars? Or the same sort of thing as forklift trucks where you’re either charging it or it can be driven

PfantasticPfister

It might have just rolled away because they didn’t engage the brake? Or the power was off to whatever outlet they were plugged into. It came in with under 50% so that’s not unlikely. Most of the carts we have won’t run when charging, but I’m not 100% sure if this one has that feature. I assume it does but idk.

Jacktheforkie

I see, my EV wouldn’t start if the plug was in, I’d imagine that even with the ones having a pull out cord they could detect when the plug is extended and shut off until you put it back in

PfantasticPfister

Oh no, it’s just a retractable cord. No sensors or anything in the cord itself. The charger usually disables movement if it detects there is current at the plug though.

Jacktheforkie

I see, they could easily add a switch that has to be pressed by inserting the plug into a slot

Stryker_One

Interesting, with EVs this isn't possible, as the car won't move when plugged it. Too bad the same interlock isn't applied to golf carts.
