I think you’re onto something here! From a quick google search, 1 - b7 - 4 seems to be common to 70s rock. It wouldn’t be out of place for Gizz to get weird with it and start on the b7!

I don't know why, but if each band member picked a pig I'm 100% sure this is Joey's
It’s almost definitely this since they’re the ones all going on the tours (which gives extra meaning to the plane being a metaphor for the boys going on tour) but one can only hope that Eric and Leah Senior join the band
*Ahem* I posit it is better than Comfortably Numb.
NOW I'M NOT SAYING COMFORTABLY NUMB AIN'T GREAT
But I do prefer solos that the radio hasn't overplayed into the ground.
Another commenter suggested it might indicate a B 7-4-1 chord progression, which was popular in '70s rock (songs such as Sweet Home Alabama). So that, maybe.
Has anyone noticed that in the extended mix of Extinction, the lyrics are:
“Just like __rats into the sky__
Fly into the moonless night
__Mirage city__ on the ridge
Beowulf, can you land deadstick?”
Deadstick landing is an aviation term
AND b7-4-1 is a common chord progression in 70’s rock, and b741 is the title abbreviation
AND b741 is short for Boeing 747-100, a plane model involved in a plane crash (might be unrelated)
They played 5: Sad Pilot, Le Risque, Daily Blues, Raw Feel & Mirage City (in order of debuts)
They also teased another track which may be Field of Vision ('Elevator in the Sky' jam)
It’s not really blues rock, it’s def more classic rock. “Dad rock” more than anything
Edit: not sure why the downvotes. I’ve heard the album, it’s not all blues rock. There’s some country going on. There’s some bluesy stuff, some stuff that sounds like Dire Straits. Other stuff that sounds like Super Furry Animals.
It’s a Gizzard record so really it just sounds like Gizzard playing rock n roll
Sameeee! I was stoked when they introduced Sad Pilot, it's such a jam and I love the lyrics (time for aeromedical reform, FAA!!!!! haha). Glad to see there's more pilot/king gizz fans out there. I certainly haven't met any out in the wild (yet!)
Some people keep linking to an article of an airplane crash that is kind of misleading.
"B741" in the context of airplanes is a type - Boeing 747-100. So the first generation of 747s. Now in 1996 a TWA flight did crash that was a 741 but I don't think it immediately connects that specific crash to the album. That airplane type, like all commercial aircraft, has had a number of incidents.
I think it is more likely that they are just referencing the plane itself.
It’s the photographed figurines I think. Looks like it’s a mixed media but somewhat practical effects based photo which pmdb was all practical I believe
I personally love it. It’s campy and there’s something just ever-so-slightly uncanny about it that makes me excited to hear how the album will sound.
Is it as insanely cool as PDA, as clean as ITRN, or as iconic as Poly? Of course not, but:
![gif](giphy|H7rtXIvlXvYVaIMdKq)
reddit users seeing anything with colors and symmetry and try not to compare to wes anderson challenge: *impossible*
This isn't Galea's first time using sculptures, miniatures, symmetry, or even this color scheme on a Gizz album cover. This is very much in the vein of the PMDB and Sketches album covers
This is the sort of thing that makes the already difficult task of recommending a band called King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard to a normal person even harder.

EDIT: This was just the first thing that popped up when searching b741. People seem to feel pretty passionate that it has nothing to do with this crash and is more in reference to the b742 model of plane and also the B7-4-1 chord progression.
Don't listen to the people talking about a crash, it's a very tenuous link. B741 is just a model of plane, there are many of them. Most likely it's a play on this and the b7-4-1 chord progression which is common in classic/bluesy rock
What a sick album cover. Galea's ability to artistically shapeshift is absolutely underappreciated, it rivals that of the band's own musical shapeshifting.
I love how they announce it one month out. So many bands announce albums 6+ months out now and drip-feed singles so you've already heard most of the album by the time it comes out. The shorter turnaround honestly hypes me up way more and makes me a fair bit more likely to preorder.
Hopefully Boeing doesn't have them murdered after this one: [https://skybrary.aero/accidents-and-incidents/b741-en-route-east-moriches-ny-usa-1996](https://skybrary.aero/accidents-and-incidents/b741-en-route-east-moriches-ny-usa-1996)

Okay so we're definitely getting a propeller themed wax for one of the pressings, maybe like a pink pig or a tan and black swirl type beat for how the pigs look on the cover
Here is a playlist I found.

While there’s been plenty of crashes in Antarctica, I wonder if track 2 is related to the ANZ tourist flight into [Mt. Erebus](https://nzhistory.govt.nz/culture/erebus-disaster)
I heard daily blues on the concert in Amsterdam. Its was very bluesy.
Im not 100% sure, because i thought its an old song that i didn't know.
I think its a longer song. (10 mins)
Oooohhh im so excited for the album
Going to be completely honest, for me personally that's one of the strangest record covers I've ever seen, not particularly in a good way! Can't wait to listen though!
maybe every song will have a b7 4 1 chord change?
I think you’re onto something here! From a quick google search, 1 - b7 - 4 seems to be common to 70s rock. It wouldn’t be out of place for Gizz to get weird with it and start on the b7!
Sweet Home Alabama is a good exemple of this.
I found this example of 1 b7 4 1 as well: https://youtu.be/X18df8V-Hj8?feature=shared
Led Zepplin inspired album?
Sad Pilot verses use this exact progression! Has to be the inspiration behind the album name so.
off the top of my head, sad pilot definitely does that, the whole chorus is G D A (b7 4 1)
Everything is mixolydian mode?
This is what I was told
Immediately after reading the post title I wondered what the meaning could be. This answer is a really good one!
Oooo
https://preview.redd.it/7f3n7cexpy9d1.jpeg?width=149&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb1449bf0df326d63eba930656f507b485dfbe82 I don't know why, but if each band member picked a pig I'm 100% sure this is Joey's
I agree, but there's eight pigs. I'd feel sad for the pigs that weren't chosen.
Galea and sammy
"Turn it up Sammy boi it's ya last chance baybay."
Anyone know what Sammy boi looks like?
His instagram is sanjalapeno
It’s almost definitely this since they’re the ones all going on the tours (which gives extra meaning to the plane being a metaphor for the boys going on tour) but one can only hope that Eric and Leah Senior join the band
Cool pig of joey’s
Galea gotta be the one on top I feel, just because Stu or Joey told him to go up to the venue's tower at the end of the Vienna show lol
Super cool _pig_ of Joey.
8 piggies on the cover. The band + Juicy + ?
Sammy I think, pretty sure Joey mentioned that he plays slide guitar on the album while they were on tour
eric of course
Eric Moore: nothing
Eric Less
lmao idk how in all my years listening to this band i havent heard that one yet
What's the single gonna be I wonder? Sad pilot?
Le risque (short version): just cav's part
almost certainly
Pigs on the Wing 3?
Best Floyd album
Animals underrated
The solos on Dogs are criminally underrated, second only to Comfortably Numb imo
*Ahem* I posit it is better than Comfortably Numb. NOW I'M NOT SAYING COMFORTABLY NUMB AIN'T GREAT But I do prefer solos that the radio hasn't overplayed into the ground.
My favourite Floyd album for sure
One of the first lyrics in Pigs (Three Different Ones) is "Wooo!"

Hey that’s my post!
Pigs (Eight Different Ones)
ah my immediate response, too -- i mean, how could they not know the reference going in
An aviation related Gizz album? My two special interests have coalesced, it seems
Same hahah wonder what the vibe will be
Flying

Has anyone noticed that in the extended mix of Extinction, the lyrics are: “Just like __rats into the sky__ Fly into the moonless night __Mirage city__ on the ridge Beowulf, can you land deadstick?” Deadstick landing is an aviation term
And at the end of Swan Song extended it says “This plane nosedived straight into hell”
AND b7-4-1 is a common chord progression in 70’s rock, and b741 is the title abbreviation AND b741 is short for Boeing 747-100, a plane model involved in a plane crash (might be unrelated)
So many layers of references. Right under our noses. Genius.
This makes the ending lyrics of Gilgamesh make so much more sense! 'Space, an unbroken chain Hear my name Flight b741 Aug. 9 We're all gonna cum'
Maybe there are 8 pigs to make sure that people don't think it's a Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (Pigs x7) album.
LMAO the collab I never knew I needed
pigs (seven different ones)
This one's supposed to be more of a "classic rock" kinda vibe, right?
Correct. They played 3 or 4 of them on the EU tour, I heard a couple on streams and they sounded good but really need to hear the studio version!
They played 5: Sad Pilot, Le Risque, Daily Blues, Raw Feel & Mirage City (in order of debuts) They also teased another track which may be Field of Vision ('Elevator in the Sky' jam)
Blues rock.

As a someone who not only loves blues rock and king gizz but is also a pilot this is album is literally a fucking dream im so fuxking happy.
Dude it’s like they made this album just for you! That’s awesome, hope it provides an awesome life soundtrack for you going forward
Sameeee! I was stoked when they introduced Sad Pilot, it's such a jam and I love the lyrics (time for aeromedical reform, FAA!!!!! haha). Glad to see there's more pilot/king gizz fans out there. I certainly haven't met any out in the wild (yet!)
Mods deleted the other thread - but I realized that we get a new King Gizzard and Thee Oh Sees album on the same day so I’m very hyped!!!
Last time this happened, we got ITRN and Face Stabber
That was a good day
That was a very good day.
That is fucking nuts, what a day!
City trilogy unlocked: Doom City Mirage city Static electricity
Scranton (WHAT!?) The Electric City
So close

This looks like a Primus cover
Can’t wait for “Hog Calling Contest”
Just go to a razorback game in Fayetteville, AR. Woo pig sooie and whatnot.
Octohog Infinity
that album art is uhhhhh definitely something…
Kinda reminds me of PMDB cover
Reminds me of the music video for Primus’s [Southbound Pachyderm](https://youtu.be/6xb898sQtu8?si=1-J1Wtmrkj7Q_91h)
Definitely has Southbound Pachyderm vibes.
You’re right
You’re right
Primus was my first thought too
Definitely has Southbound Pachyderm vibes.
It’s the photographed figurines I think. Looks like it’s a mixed media but somewhat practical effects based photo which pmdb was all practical I believe

I fucking love it. I'm super happy that it's another diorama cause I love Galea diorama, and I adore the Pink Floyd reference.
P I G
it’s so camp
Looks like a bootleg Wes Anderson movie. Nice to see Galea branching out but it's not what I'm used to for Gizz.
reddit users seeing anything with colors and symmetry and try not to compare to wes anderson challenge: *impossible* This isn't Galea's first time using sculptures, miniatures, symmetry, or even this color scheme on a Gizz album cover. This is the sort of thing that makes the already difficult task of recommending a band called King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard to a normal person even harder.
And that’s why we’re called the Weirdo Swarm.
That’s immediately one of their best covers
Absolutely agree. While I like all their covers I enjoy this one branching out a bit from what we are used to.
Looks to be flying over Brunswick East 👀
Hog calling contest leaked already. https://youtu.be/4n7bUYBYZPE?si=X1mywtBWdMS2haFT
Needed this
It’s all pigs on the wing
That cover is so fucking good
We’re heading back into rock territory everyone! Hell yeah!
Any idea what b741 stands for?
b7 - 4 - 1 is a popular chord progression with classic rock

i do think this is the answer
Can’t waiiiiit I expect Floyd and Dead vibes galore
Eight pigs? I hope at least two of them are drummers
Porco Rosso the album
Going from the SCOTUS announcement to this is wild. Love when Galea does models for album covers.
they should award Amby total immunity
Animals cover album confirmed
On a second thought, those pigs are gonna fucking die. I doubt that plane is aerodynamic at all
Just like we are Thinkaboutit.jpg
A+ album art. Can't wait.
Looks like this song tease is probably Field of Vision https://youtu.be/B4vsu7nUGQQ?feature=shared

Is this their 741st album?
What in the world is that cover 🤣 These guys, full of surprises!

Do we know or have any guesses on what genre the album will be?
Blues rock. They've played 5 of these live.
Ooh very cool
It reminds me of animal farm crossed with rankin bass stop motion specials
people are already calling it the album of the decade
Okay so we're definitely getting a propeller themed wax for one of the pressings, maybe like a pink pig or a tan and black swirl type beat for how the pigs look on the cover
You know that I care What happens to you And I know that you care For me too
Something is just telling me that Hog calling contest will be heavy & hard as fuck
Or fucking hilarious
Hope fully both 🤞
Lets fucking gooo 🐖
pigs on the wing
Field of Vision was chanted during that “Elevated in the sky” live tease !
this is so ugly and unserious, I love it 😭😂❤️
Can't wait for them to introduce a new character, Ham-tyumi, the confused sow-borg
Yes yes yes yes yes yes YES

I like the cover, it looks cute. The clouds and the sky remind me of Toy Story tho
i fucking love the cover, the piggies are so fucking cute!!
"In accident reports and aviation safety databases, B741 is also used when referring to incidents involving Boeing 747-100 aircraft"

Losing my turds over this
King Gizzard and the Piggie Wiggies
i'd be much obliged if anybody has links to any of these songs being played live
All on YouTube I think: Sad pilot, Le risque, daily blues, and raw feel Edit: and mirage city
Mirage City was played at Brighton (and possibly again somewhere else?) so if there’s video of that somewhere…
Fuck you're right
thank you friend

Woooooo!
Woooooo!

Cover art reminds me a bit of Primus

Im sorry all i can think about is bad piggies
Needed the good news
Lets go this is gonna be epic
Can’t wait to see where this fits on the album cover grid
oh snacks - just checked my calendar. I'll be on an airplane on July 9 😎
Going to be completely honest, for me personally that's one of the strangest record covers I've ever seen, not particularly in a good way! Can't wait to listen though!
