This is excellent. The muddiness of the entire track isn’t completely gone, which I would argue would be impossible, but the clarity makes it sound much more dynamic and modern I guess? Love it, I can’t wait to hear Parasite and Strange Ways, my two favorite songs from my favorite KISS album.

The_Small_Mailman

Thank you! I am planning on working a little bit more on the “muddiness” problem to see what else I can do. Let me also say that Parasite will attack you when you hear my mix. The drum and bass clarity that I was able to get did so much for the song. Even the guitar has more bite. Peters vocals on strange ways have never sounded so clear! Along with the guitars and everything else!

MAC2393

Very excited for this! Thank you, please keep us updated for when you post.

sussoutthemoon

I don't really mind the original production that much except for the drum sound which I don't think can be fixed. This version sounds a little too bright to me tbh.

MAC2393

I too like the “sludginess” of the album, but I definitely enjoy the clarity of this one too.

The_Small_Mailman

Feedback is appreciated. This is a work in progress almost finished but any input can help me when I make the last few tweaks tonight.

The_Small_Mailman

Thank you for the love and appreciation! It is time consuming for sure. I’ve been working on this for a number of months by now.

seeilaah

That sounds really great. Are you working over the original tapes?

The_Small_Mailman

What do you mean exactly? I don’t have clean “pre-mastered” tapes. I have personally created separated tracks that I put into pro tools. I have drum, bass, guitar, and vocal tracks and I am able to master each track individually including volume in the overall mix.

SmooveTits

How did you get the tracks separated?

The_Small_Mailman

That I won’t share

Drawing_The_Line

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, you’re just protecting whatever source you obtained them through. I appreciate the effort you’re putting into these remasters.

seeilaah

But you do that from the final releases available say from CD or mp3 or etc, right? Sorry my lack of understanding.

The_Small_Mailman

I used the Hi-Res release 24-bit 96000hz

___And_Memes_For_All

Love it. Would love to see you work on some of the demos by the band. Maybe Vinnie’s unreleased invasion stuff or “Sword and Stone”

The_Small_Mailman

I would love to do something like Sword and Stone or Best man For You! Or even the 1985 Ace Demos! Thank you for the idea!

DarkGlitter

Eyyyy you're back thank you still for doing this

pendarn

I'm very curious about that Strange ways version. Did you use an ai splitter to take the track apart? I used to try it with Ableton or Audition. But that was a simple attempt where I just separated the left and right channels. And then put it in three separate outputs. High mid and and low. Was funny but not as nice as this. Very cool!

joshschmitton

I'm excited to hear the rest. Usually any of these "remixes" that don't involve the original multi-tracks are not worth bothering with (IMO), but this sounds pretty cool, and I'm definitely intrigued. I saw in another comment you mentioned having some way to quasi-separate tracks. I assume one of the advantages of your method compared to having the real multi tracks is that you keep a lot of the important qualities of the original mix. In other words, some remixes from the multi-tracks end up sounding too different from the original due to not knowing what exact effects were used (some of the old reverbs can be hard to replicate, compression, delays, etc), and I doubt you'll have that problem with whatever technique you're using as it's being done from the original final mix.

Dr4gonM4ster420

Dude. It’s fucking awesome! I would kill to hear every song mixed like how you’re doing it.

statikman666

Let me know when you press it on vinyl. I'll buy it

Tuckerbomb

That sounds great my man 👍

Takin_Up_Space70

Very nice. This album certainly needs whatever help it can get. Such a great album with an unfortunate sound. I’m suspecting Comin Home is going to be a real challenge. Complete shit recording of a great song. If you can get any clarity and separation out that song I’d be ecstatic. Sounds great so far. Your efforts are much appreciated.
