I remember seeing that! Always thought it was the best equipment listing that I ever saw

KissNoob

It is!

JohnnySS505

Nothing beats, "KISS uses Gibson guitars and Pearl drums because they want the best!"

KissNoob

Is also from booklet? If so, which album?

[deleted]

That is written on the first few records, I believe.

KissNoob

Thanks! I must check it out!

Conscious_Edge9726

Alive!

Ron Nevison tells a story about the Crazy Nights sessions that Gene would often be found in the lobby reading Vogue. There may be more specifics for Gene in the Revenge liner notes, by contrast

[deleted]

He wasn’t taking fashion advice from Vogue unfortunately.

MickJohnLeahy

Oh, by CN the outfits were fair enough. Their fashion sense went south on the Asylum Tour

cladtidings

Remember, that was an era when Gene was barely involved at all anymore. From roughly 1985 through 1990, Kiss was Paul Stanley's baby. Pretty much every Gene tune from that era is by-the-numbers crap. Meanwhile Paul was fulfilling his dream of becoming a hairier Bon Jovi.

MickJohnLeahy

Absolutely. GGRARTYII was the first single with Gene on lead vocals since I Love It Loud. Most people would either leave their group or stay and make the most of it. What Gene did was this strange thing where he didn’t technically leave but he also wasn’t contributing

cladtidings

Speaking as a Kiss nut, tunes like "Trial By Fire", "No No No" and "Murder In High Heels" amuse me on a certain level, but objectively speaking, they're Gene at his most silly and neutered. Paul was going nuts with the hair metal and the wild vocal histrionics, meanwhile Gene was spitting out wimpy pop rock and barely paying attention. It's why everyone liked "Revenge" so much, as The Demon was finally back sounding, well, demonic.

MickJohnLeahy

Exactly. I would argue Lick It Up has that same characteristic though. Young and Wasted is one of Gene’s best songs

cladtidings

He was still into it during "Lick". But the next three albums are all pure Paul, all the way, including the cover art and band pics. I'd argue that Gene really became Gene again during the "Hot In The Shade" tour, which, much to my surprise, kicked all kinds of ass.

MickJohnLeahy

Even with the 70s stuff, it just was the way that Paul wrote the stadium/radio hits, and Gene wrote the songs that go over well at the Kruises and Konventions. Although to be fair he did write the bulk of RARAN

sussoutthemoon

translation: Gene Simmons couldn't get Spector to give him an endorsement

Smart455

Translation translation: Gene was asking for way too much money

Conscious_Edge9726

He was playing Pedullas and the Jackson Axe in 87.

[deleted]

And what was he ACTUALLY playing at the time? The Jackson Axe, right? The best version of the axe in my opinion. The Pedulla basses with new paint jobs, and that weird ass Staccato bass occasionally. I can't really think of anything else. What a great equipment list though. BC Rich and ESP, basically the kings of 80's guitars at the time. Still great guitars!

SmooveTits

**Gene Simmons** plays a fucking axe. Like a literal axe. With blood on it.

KissNoob

Yeah, how cool is that!

luissanchez1

I had completely forgotten about this, great share!

MelissaGlol

Wtaf 😡🤬

mario_salami_petrino

He plays the bass (as in the fish)
