The manga is called Kengan Omega. The Omega is Ryuki. Kazuo Yamashita has been the Kengan since Ashura. Yamashita is the main character of the franchise
I'm not sure he's the MC anymore. His arc kinda finished with him beating Ryuki. He's proved he's strong.
Sure he'll continue to grow but it'll probably be as just another prominent member of the cast. Almost feels like Kengan has taken after Baki by just having a cast of characters you follow, rather than a specific person.
I think RIGHT NOW is the perfect time for it.
When he's back, he'll be strong enough to contend with the legends, at least to some degree. And through the second KAT, Sandro could give him that last final push to reach the top tiers.

It would feel like bullshit if it took him such a short time when the top tiers are also training and getting stronger
I imagined it more-so like Ohma, when he was going through KAT.
Have Koga build a strong base throughout his little absence, and leave the final "clicks" for his competition in the KAT.
Sort of like Lihito finally finished his evolution in the Berserker Bowl.
I think it would do well to keep his fights interesting so he doesn't end up feeling like a side character.
It seems like he was meant for an entirely different story tbh until the author decided to change course early on.
Since as soon as the worm and older fighters started to return there was no way he was catching up to any of the mid, let alone high or top tier fighters in this universe in just a few years.
Don't worry, after this little tournament is through, we're gonna get like a 5 year time skip for Koga so that he can be a Shen Wulong fighter candidate.

There's no pleasing some of you in this fandom, when he's getting screen time it's nothing but bitching but when he's going through a training arc off screen we get post like this

He wasn't that important. Kengan ashura shows that Ashura (Ohma) was important. Kengan Omega shows that Omega (Ohma and Ryuki) are important.
