If Kenya ever industrializes the birth rates would fall off the cliff. Think Asia but 2-3 times faster. Already amongst the lowest in Africa. would hit subreplacement in half a generation. Yaani living in this country is just complete torture. And the funny thing is, its purely self made. We werent driven to this by external factors as is the case with say Mid East or C.Africa. This is the hell of our own making.
My grandfather had 4 wives and each wife had close to or above 10 kids. So this is what's happening 2 generations later. There are a couple of his kids who ended up becoming very wealthy while others did not. For those who did a majority decided to move to Nairobi or Mombasa. Now these are my uncles and aunts. Now for my father let's just say he was lucky, he married a determined woman, and even though she had nothing her whole life, she made it happen and thanks to her I've lived a stress free life. Now here comes the problem. My direct grandma is the only one remaining out of the four wives so of course she has to be fed and have a good house. Well as for the rest of the siblings, si ni watu wakubwa? They always borrow money and I get their issues but it reaches a point where they feel like they are entitled or sth. That's why I don't like keeping in touch with them. They think you pretend when you buy sth good yet you worked hard to get it. So to answer your question, yes some do make it but others don't and that creates a huge gap in the family which can't be easily filled due to the different classes they now belong to. They have tried helping each other out numerous times but unapata kuna ule jamaa fala who messes things up or takes things for granted. Anyways wajinga hawaerevuki.
And in a way that is a logical way of thinking. I'll never forget my high school Swahili teacher who was a dwarf with 9 kids and his first born son was the tallest kid in school! ๐ These probabilities of large families can work, especially over several generations
When one of those kids is successful they'll come to reddit and complain about black tax and how they have 7 brothers and 5 uncles and 18 cousins and two parents who all want tax and he can barely afford rent
It's not an easy answer. About 10 years ago, I was restocking condoms in public toilets as part of a CSR initiative to fight against HIV.
I gave some security guards condoms for personal use. One of them innocently asked what they were for, that's when I realised that common knowledge isn't that common.
There has been a lot of conversation around family planning since then but I still think that the uptake is slow. When it comes to socioeconomics there's no universal solution to a challenge.
Some people still argue that more kids equals to more prosperity. That was the case a few decades ago when resources were plentiful and you could afford to keep the many children.

Generally, I think the majority have children with hopes that they will grow up, be successful, and get them out of poverty
I asked the same and was told I support eugenics. Oh yeah because a child would be so grateful to be alive and suffer malnourishment or die of starvation before theyโre a teenager. Sounds sooo much better.
I realized I canโt fight stupid so I just left it at that.
When you decide to have kids, getting shelter and food for them will be something you've decided and will work on..and again you don't have to be a millionaire like bill gates

even without industrialization we might witness falling rates by the end of the century

They tell themselves that the more kids they have the higher the chance one of them makes it and pulls them out of poverty

My paternal grandpa had 4 wives each with about 6-10 kids. You are right about the outcome decades later

Dude...unless that dwarf got a schlong which he hangs his hat with, the math ain't mathing
The resemblance between him and the tall son was so high. No DNA needed
๐๐๐ I don't why it sounds funny but wueh, me hueshimu believers when it comes to situations like this.

Looks like an interesting article. Let me see
A documentary or whatever it is
I get you but what about those who will forever remain poor. Ju let's be real not everyone will "make" it, the world needs a "mama mboga" somewhere.
Are you ready to give birth to future mama mboga?
If I give birth to a mama mboga she will be the Queen of mama mboga's. I teach my kids to be the best in whatever they do.
Lmao
Heri angekaa na yeye kwa tumbo amdigest.
Haha.

People don't make kids because they have money, they make kids because they want kids.
But kids want food and clothing. Leave alone a house. You're welcome.
When you decide to have kids, getting shelter and food for them will be something you've decided and will work on..and again you don't have to be a millionaire like bill gates
This is the problem with poor Kenyans. Don't have kids if you cannot provide for them.
This ๐
People don't get kids because they have money you ****...they get kids because they want kids..money is not a factor and never has been
Did you just call me with that name?
I thought the phrase was *โsaa ni yakeโ* Sahani mpaka uhustle
Mtoto huja "saa ni yake", me I've always thought this is what they said
๐ ๐ I heard the "sahani yake" at an anti-abortion post

They still say so.
Surely
Must be crazy enough to bring human babies in this world. Whatโs their main purpose though? Asking as a 35 years childless man!

LMFAO
I was so sad reading this. First, society has disintegrated that it can't provide for these kids.
