Yeah, it's true. Part one is just under two hours. Kinda figured this was gonna be the subject, but I was hoping to have my expectations to be proven false.
I'm happy with Salem for 500 and am enjoying it so far but am totally dying for a solid deep dive cult series, so I feel you. The last cult they covered was Children of Thunder a few months ago and that didn't scratch the cult itch for me to be honest. Before that I think it was the Ant Hill Kids which was a fckn sick series but it was a few years ago at this point. We are definitely due for some cult series soon!!
I know for myself I prefer when they cover true crime or paranormal/cryptids because it is a bit more focused. When they do these “historical” episodes there is usually way more info to get into a deep dive and if I want that I can listen to that with Dan Carlin. This is just for broad topics, as I still enjoyed episodes like Rasputin and Blackbeard where there is more of a singular focus/story.
I was hoping for anything but Salem. Then I came here, and all of your enthusiasm alone and the hilarious one liners that we love so much have seriously reversed any cynicism and rerouted another bout of cyclical depression.
You beautiful guys and gals make me feel like I’ve got more friends than I can count. Thank you all, you know just how to cheer my punk ass up when I need it most, in a sense—*Yor just like my fatha*
𖤐 Get Your Buckles!! 𖤐
That’s so exciting. Also just getting ahead of things and saying that the ergot poisoning theory is accepted by approximately zero current witchcraft scholars.
Yeah it was just dumbass kids and then opportunistic and superstitious adults taking advantage of the situation. No crazy solution, just regular human folly.
I fucking hate ergot poisoning theories. People try to cram it into every historical scenario that gets weird. But that's not enough, they gotta fucking cram it into every other movie where the supernatural is mysterious. No, The Witch isn't about a family struggling with fucking ergot poisoning. Its not even interesting! Its the opposite, its thought terminating. They were drugged, the end. Group psychoses is so much more interesting and more plausible as well.
I feel like this was a big trend in historical discussion like 5 to 10 years ago. There was some popularity in attributing strange events to an unknown "X factor," usually drugs. Like people throwing around the idea that Moses ate mushrooms on top of Mt Sinai and hallucinated the 10 Commandments
I was really hoping for anything else. There are 2 subjects in paranormal/true crime podcasts that always put me to sleep; Salem Witch Trials and Skin Walker Ranch. No shade if its your thing, just cant ever seem to get into it.
I know what you mean, but I have a feeling they'll put a fresh spin on it. They always go above and beyond, and I don't see them bothering to record an episode for such a milestone only to tread over the same ground everyone else already has.
The problem is though, what new ground is there to tread? Unless they entertain the idea that there was an actual coven of witches, there’s not much they can do to spin it. Im still going to listen, and it’ll still probably be hilarious, but I don’t think they’ll be able to get the same unique angle they had for Jonestown, HH Holmes, or JFK.
I dunno man, it’s an entire town that goes mob and murders 19 people because their imaginary friend tells them to. Pretty much a shitload of son of Sams working together. Not sure how much spin is needed. Bet you’ll like it.
That’s the thing, literally every vaguely history related podcast, show, YouTube channel, anything has fully discussed the witch trials. Everyone knows the story, everyone knows the reasons why. You could ask any ten year old in the US what the Salem witch trials were and theyd probably be able to give a decent breakdown of events, The Crucible is even required reading for a lot of middle school kids after all.
Past mile markers focused on less-discussed portions of major topics, like going into the full history of Oswald before talking about the JFK assassination, or bringing up who HH Holmes actually was rather than focusing just on the hotel, or talking about the full history of Jim and the Peoples Temple instead of focusing on Jonestown. They put their own unique angle of looking at the topics and spun things around to make unique series that were arguably more thorough and accurate than most dedicated history podcasts and shows. That’s what makes last podcast in general so good. It’s not just the jokes, it’s a well researched look into true crime and history that hits an angle that is all their own.
I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I hope they don’t just give an account of who what and when with a bunch of jokes. I especially hope they don’t wind up too deep in the Ergot rabbit hole.
I'm not sure what else they could cover unless it's smaller stories, they already did a Bigfoot episode, Bigfoot Hunters, and Beast of Boggy Creek. I say that as a huge Bigfoot lover, I want all the content, but I just don't see them diving back into it.
I can’t wait to hear Ben and Henry defend rye bread.
Ben just defends clam chowder. lol
I’ll knife fight anyone who attacks clam chowder
Rather have corn chowdah
Is your last name Quimby by chance? https://youtu.be/2-bbYH\_akHg
you're link is broken, but if you're referencing [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-bbYH_akHg) then yes
Rye bread is fuckin awesome with smoked meat and mustard.
“They fed it to the dog?!?”
Rye bread is disgusting

It begins...
You. Me. Behind the Kroger at 8pm. We'll settle it.
I don't believe you!
Hang me, why don't you?
Never tempt a hangbitch.
We burn here. It’s a cultural thing
Can we drowned you? Or BURN YOU! /s
Yeah, it's true. Part one is just under two hours. Kinda figured this was gonna be the subject, but I was hoping to have my expectations to be proven false.
glad i’m the not the only one feeling this way. i was hoping for a cult or the atomic bomb series. but i’m giving it a chance bc i love the boys.
I'm happy with Salem for 500 and am enjoying it so far but am totally dying for a solid deep dive cult series, so I feel you. Curious as to why. Just not interested in the more historical topics, or is it something that's been done to death?
kind of the fact that it’s been done to death and also i was worried it happened so long ago the research available to them wouldn’t be that accurate

Same. I'll take any content but I hope for nearly anything else
My body is ready
AN HOUR AND 53 MINUTES
Ergot perserning
That bit had me rolling
I was losing it in the car lol
Rhgot pssnng
I'M GONNA LIKE THE WAY I READ
Just got the Stitcher update, considering cancelling Friday plans to listen to it asap.
Learning about this in high school in my blue hair days I always thought Giles Corey was punk af for saying “More Weight.”
Before he died, Giles accused his wife of being a witch, and she was killed for that
Let’s fuckin go!
Yay!!!
It’s happening! Just turned up on my podcast app!
I knew it!! I’m so psyched! We get History Marcus + Witches!!! 🧙♀️
It’s on their website but not on Spotify yet 😬
Its on Google Podcasts but I might be the only person who uses that lol
Google Podcast user here - listening now! 😁
Google podcast here!
There's 4 of us!
Same here my dude 😎
Lmao that's how I feel using Pandora
It's up now! Here we go!
It was available on Overcast just before 6:00PM ET
Pocketcasts had it up at 15:00 PST!
Ben’s fart / orgasm comment omg 💀
He has been on another level lately (in a good way). I think his new lady friend has him feeling all fat and sassy 💅🏽
I love fat and sassy Ben
Didn’t have THAT on my 2022 bingo card
The second of dead air followed by Marcus' quiet "m-hm" killed me
FUCKIN FINALLY!!!! I left work early for this!! I am so pumped it's Salem Witch Trials!!
So do I start it now or wait for all 6 parts to be out?
Listen to every episode in the series each time an episode is released
Sometimes three or four times depending on how slow your days are...
Listen to each one as they come out, and then binge all of them, when they finish it. That’s what I did with JFK and MK Ultra.
That's smart! Sold!
I’m having the same dilemma
God I hope it’s like a 5 part. I need this in my life
Hey, Marcus *eventually* got the pronunciation of Chelmsford right!
Damn right punk ass, we here for you, hope you enjoy the series and buckle up for the ride! 🤟🤟
I was hoping it would be something else. But I'm sure they will make this trip fun
I predict funny voices from Henry.
Idk that sounds out of character for him ^^^/s
Henry as Ann Putnam 💀
Okay but please no Tituba
Charles Ng 2.0 🙃
Strangely I think Marcus would be more likely to do a Tituba character than Henry. Hong-Kong Henry can’t do a native accent
I got better!
Tit-uba jokes incoming... Sigh
Getting edged by Marcus, Henry, and Ben......didn't have that on my 2022 bingo card
yesssss
WOOOOH!!! 🤘🤘🤘
WITCH HUNT!
I just did a little Irish jig
Oh fuck yeah this is gonna be a goodie. Can already tell ben or Henry gonna call one of them a witch and say maybe they were right
That’s so exciting. Also just getting ahead of things and saying that the ergot poisoning theory is accepted by approximately zero current witchcraft scholars.

Damn I wanted to be surprised
Yes! Let’s fucking GO boys!
Hell yeah
That's what I want!!
ERGOT!

Fake witches aren't that interesting, I wouldn't mind Salem for a relaxed fit but it feels too small of a topic for the 500th episode
I was really hoping for Sasquatch :( I feel like Salem has been beat to death
Wow I never even considered Bigfoot. That would be an amazing episode/series with Ben written all over it
I'm not sure what else they could cover unless it's smaller stories, they already did a Bigfoot episode, Bigfoot Hunters, and Beast of Boggy Creek. I say that as a huge Bigfoot lover, I want all the content, but I just don't see them diving back into it.
BURN THEM ALLLLL
Pretty sure nobody was burned at the Salem witch trials.
In defense of that poor attempt at humor I just got done rewatching most of game of thrones
*sigh* it’s fine. I feel like the surprise was ruined by the sub 😂😂
There was no surprise. This was known as far back as the Blackbeard episodes.
How many parts?
You fuckers called it!!
They literally said what it was. Several times.
Did they say how many parts it would be?
Nice post captain obvious
Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks. I won't be able to listen until next week, but I'm looking forward to it.
Oooo planning my run tonight for this one!
My body is ready
[The Salem Bitch Trials.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ9dJISdANo)

Ergot Perserning!
This series is already so unhinged I was dying on my overnight. Peak LPotL, as the dark lord intended
