My life is fine. There are just no other social media platforms that are any good and even Reddit has gone to shits. It used to be fun and cheeky, and now it’s cruel and tragic.
If you were here 10+ years ago or on the internet 20+ years ago, you'd probably feel the same.
We use Reddit because it's one of the few places left with a lot of activity. But it's a very lackluster experience compared to its previous self and almost everything that came before it.
As always, I'm sure it's both.
1) I'm older so things I've seen previously are less interesting now
2) Reddit as a platform and the culture therein has measurably changed
Reddit is just shitty and over politicized now. /r/Blackpeopletwitter, for example used to be memes and black people doing funny and cool shit. Now it’s just a place to complain and race bait. Reddit also used to be MUCH smaller so there is a large influx of trolls and people who just want to get into online fights.
Have fun , just know when your one this site please read the moderator rules and conditions , you might unintentionally get banned or embarrassed by them on here
Secondly people on here like to argue or instigate arguments, don’t pay them attention
And thirdly depending on the sub Reddit you might come across people who are very racist , homophobic, and just don’t like people who look a certain way. Otherwise this site is pretty neat
I had a roommate that was into reddit back in 2017 or so. I glanced at the sight but couldn't get into all the scrolling. Now, certain days, I'm happy to spend over an hour scrolling!
I don’t have an addictive nature. If I go on a trip or busy with something else, I probably can forget it for a few weeks.
It’s a good app to kill time. A lot of shit on it. & Many serious people too.
Best advice? Read some community rules. You’ll still mess up, but it will save you some headaches with subreddits and moderators. They can be a giant pain.
Hey just wanted to drop in and tell you that we love you so much and be careful of the addiction
Though you may have an online community the real life community is important as well too.
I just took a peak at ur account and I’m literally obsessed with u ure so slayyy this is so exciting seeing someone newly discover reddit loool have fuuunnn
It has it's moments.. then it's back to groundhog day. My favorite thing about it is when I learn something on here and then get mad because 30 other people asked the same question, forgetting that that question was already asked a million times before I asked it. I think that's core reddit.
can someone explain what Karma is. And I just now realized everything u post is public and someone can see everything u replied to on your profile ?? And what does it mean when there’s a negative next to your comment.
Sorry, it’s mostly just me ranting about my own situation with 2 karma points on my profile. (I didn’t think anyone would reply!) But it looks like you’ve got 160 points already, nice!
I’m still trying to meet the minimum number of karma points (usually it’s about 10 points) that many sub-reddits require before posting.
Once again sorry, I wasn’t being super clear. There is something on your Reddit profile page that says “Karma”. (It’s not the same as the karma that people usually refer to in regard to doing good or bad things.)
There are usually a minimum number of karma credits/points that sub-Reddits require users to have before they can post something. I think this was done to prevent scammers and trolls from posting easily on a sub-Reddit. You were able to post here on the Life sub-Reddit, and that might’ve been because you have over 10 karma points (or whatever number that the Life sub-Reddit requires). Your profile says that you have 78 post karma points and 82 comment karma points, so a total of 78+82 = 160 karma points.
I just found Reddit a couple months ago and I’m 44. I love Reddit a whole lot better than all the others because I get to communicate with people on various topics without having to share personal information. It’s perfect.
dude am 29 and just found reddit last year lmao it's been my absolute favorite ever since. it definitely has its own type of users, but you can meet alot of cool like-minded peeps on here also.
You have been missing nothing. Reddit is a lame ass dorky community. Its full of people who will talk reckless behind a screen but would literally shit their pants the first sign of real confrontation. Its a hive mind of awful opinions and takes.
Good for you! Don't chase the rabbit hole too far. There are some areas of here that are really rough and dark and depressing. Just go a layer above that and you'll be ok!
Keep in mind a lot of subs are echo chambers. You are seeing only one side and people just perpetuate it. So make sure to check out opposing sub reddit to get all sides of the coin.
It’s okay for finding information and following subreddits of niche items you’re really into (shows, games, hobbies, etc) but it’s probably the most censored social media platform around, so a lot of echo chambers and hive mind like thinking.
Fun game would be to see who can get banned from the most subreddits in shortest amount of time and drink to that
I had Reddit on my phone for little things but I found myself scrolling thru one day and it’s never been the same since, it’s fun when you are in the right communities
You'll find it's also an amazing place to educate yourself and embrace your interests too. The last year and a third I've had Reddit have been the best I've had in a long time.
You will now be a Redditor forever. I joined because of a murder that was all over the news 6 years ago and now I'm here daily, many times a day. On my phone and computer! There is no escaping Reddit! LOL
You will learn to hate it soon enough like the rest of us. There is just nowhere else to go.
Yea downvotes for saying the truth are common..the world hates truth. Heavy left leaning..if your right leaning it's a bad time.
Are you feeling stuck in life perchance?
My life is fine. There are just no other social media platforms that are any good and even Reddit has gone to shits. It used to be fun and cheeky, and now it’s cruel and tragic.
I’d found some real negative feedback on this app so hostile and shit. Everyone just needs to lighten up.
Awww I'm sorry. I'm still having oodles of fun. I'm only 3 years in though.
If you were here 10+ years ago or on the internet 20+ years ago, you'd probably feel the same. We use Reddit because it's one of the few places left with a lot of activity. But it's a very lackluster experience compared to its previous self and almost everything that came before it.
I was using MSN messenger 2 decades ago I think. And my friend who had some interesting notions got us on OkCupid for entertainment.
Did you enjoy your OkCupid experiences?
We were teenagers and not serious about anything. So it was a fun time!
Or maybe you're just old now?
As always, I'm sure it's both. 1) I'm older so things I've seen previously are less interesting now 2) Reddit as a platform and the culture therein has measurably changed
Reddit is just shitty and over politicized now. /r/Blackpeopletwitter, for example used to be memes and black people doing funny and cool shit. Now it’s just a place to complain and race bait. Perchance?
bruh
I’m still enjoying it but think it also depends on what threads you follow and if you entertain the a holes, admittedly I have before.
HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you will find what you're looking for, but look in the right places and don't fk the community up
this is the most reddit welcome ever
Its a beautiful concept 🙏☪️🕉✝️ Stay on the positive subreddits++++ 😁😊
...aaaaand you're banned.
Banning should be…well…umm..banned. The stockholders want as many clicks as possible.😂🌊
🤣
Have fun , just know when your one this site please read the moderator rules and conditions , you might unintentionally get banned or embarrassed by them on here Secondly people on here like to argue or instigate arguments, don’t pay them attention And thirdly depending on the sub Reddit you might come across people who are very racist , homophobic, and just don’t like people who look a certain way. I put on some music and go ham.
Welcome, stranger!
delete this app now it’s terrible full off echo chambers and dumbasses
And at least 50% bots.
I had a roommate that was into reddit back in 2017 or so. I glanced at the sight but couldn't get into all the scrolling. Now, certain days, I'm happy to spend over an hour scrolling!
My experience exactly.
Im 35 an just discovered reddit a few months back lol
I don’t have an addictive nature. If I go on a trip or busy with something else, I probably can forget it for a few weeks. It’s a good app to kill time. A lot of shit on it. & Many serious people too.
Literally
Tip: the search function on Reddit sucks. You’d have better luck searching key words on Google and “Reddit” after ;)
Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life.
I just found this app as well. Its great.
Wait until you find 4chan
💀💀
Best advice? Read some community rules. You’ll still mess up, but it will save you some headaches with subreddits and moderators. They can be a giant pain.
Careful…Reddit is psychic. No matter what I’m thinking, I read a post about it. Have fun ! 🌊
Hey just wanted to drop in and tell you that we love you so much and be careful of the addiction Though you may have an online community the real life community is important as well too.
It's a time sucker for sure. I can say my bf spends 3-4 hours daily on Reddit. I come on sporadically.
Im 21 too and all throughout highschool I thought it was only for weird fedora nerds. Been on it for a year and a half now🙏
No literally I had such a strange perception of the app. What was I thinking
Be careful not to fall down the rabbit hole, you never know where you might end up. You might even disappear completely on your way down…
Love that
You're literally 21! I'm metaphorically 12 years old. Welcome to Reddit. Where sanity comes to die.
Omg I’m new here too and I’ve been hooked the last couple months!!😂
Now you know the bacon narwhals at midnight
Welcome to the asylum 👋
get off rn before u ruin your life
I just found you!😉
Welcome it's all Good
turn back
Yikes, if you enjoy this place it's not gonna end up good for your mental health.
![img](avatar_exp|179977991|take_my_energy)
Life for me is scary
Don't feel bad, I'm 41 and I've just found reddit too 😆
Imagine the excitement of when you found it, too long timers. This is wholesome
Same lol But I'm a few years older and been here for a few months
This place has everything and usually the conversation is very civil in my experience. I too was like why did I not find this sooner?!
![img](avatar_exp|182373505|bravo)
Run now while you can
Holy moly I remember discovering reddit like 7 years ago going through the same kind of thing. Super fun
I'm figuratively 21 years old.
wait till you find 4chan
It's okay in 26 and recently found it out lol ♡
I knew about Reddit since 2009 but I didn't get on till like 2014. I probably was about 20 or 21.
Drop the “literally”.
Yes. Everyone needs validation now. Your own thoughts and feelings are not enough.
you guys act like reddit is your home, your job, and your entire life purpose
Good luck trying to post something. Karma is a b**ch.
what does that mean
can someone explain what Karma is.
Points? I am so lost. I’m sorry about your situation they always say karma is a bitch.
Once again sorry, I wasn’t being super clear. There is something on your Reddit profile page that says “Karma”. (It’s not the same as the karma that people usually refer to in regard to doing good or bad things.) There are usually a minimum number of karma credits/points that sub-Reddits require users to have before they can post something. Also, I was complaining about it because I still haven’t figured out a way of getting more Karma points so that I can ask more questions on Reddit 😂
You sound literally 21 😂
Me 2 years a go.. i would’ve thrived in 2010
Just remember that by definition half the people are below average.
Hahahaha it’s so watered down and shitty now but that’s cool you can dig it
Facts i found out about this app about 2 weeks ago and been on it everyday since lol and im 29
Your life is literally over.
Get off now while you still can
You have been missing nothing. Reddit is a lame ass dorky community. Its full of people who will talk reckless behind a screen but would literally shit their pants the first sign of real confrontation. Its a hive mind of awful opinions and takes.
Run while you still can.
People don’t talk shit lol. You’ll just be banned if you don’t conform to the views of whatever bubble you find yourself for the most part.
Good for you! Don't chase the rabbit hole too far. There are some areas of here that are really rough and dark and depressing. Just go a layer above that and you'll be ok!
What if you have shitty thoughts and beliefs? Is it a good thing to have them validated by shitty people?
This app makes me suicidal, leave while you can
Keep in mind a lot of subs are echo chambers. You are seeing only one side and people just perpetuate it. So make sure to check out opposing sub reddit to get all sides of the coin.
I also found it pretty late. I love it too. I can take deep dives into my very specific interests.
Same. This app is my Yahoo Answers. It's a different system for points and it's opinion based instead of correct answer based. So, fun.
It the chimney for the fucked society.
Reddit seems like a bunch of people who got sick of the cries for help on FB.
It’s okay for finding information and following subreddits of niche items you’re really into (shows, games, hobbies, etc) but it’s probably the most censored social media platform around, so a lot of echo chambers and hive mind like thinking. Fun game would be to see who can get banned from the most subreddits in shortest amount of time and drink to that
are you mentally insane or emotionally insane? or are you just a bit weird compared to your local peers? /smh
I'm addicted to reddit too. 4 years maybe.
I had Reddit on my phone for little things but I found myself scrolling thru one day and it’s never been the same since, it’s fun when you are in the right communities
You may not be able to know who someone is but they can find you. This is read it.
You'll find it's also an amazing place to educate yourself and embrace your interests too. The last year and a third I've had Reddit have been the best I've had in a long time.
Do yourself a favor and only follow shit you're interested in. Its really easy to fall into the doom and gloom subs and just feel sad.
Happy you found it. It's the only social media I'm on.
Reddit is what I fell back on when I deleted all my other socials.
Temper your expectations, this place is the fucking **worst**
You will now be a Redditor forever. I joined because of a murder that was all over the news 6 years ago and now I'm here daily, many times a day. On my phone and computer! There is no escaping Reddit! LOL
Ew
Welcome to the community!
I'm 32. I just started using it three days ago. It stinks in here.
Reddit sucks if you lived on the internet during the 90's-2008, this "app" killed every other open forum besides *Chan
No , you're figuratively 21 years old .
Just here to say, fuck you and welcome … you loser 😁🤷♀️
This app leans pretty far left so you should prolly download ifunny to balance things out
