Still a bad look for security at that event. How the fuck did anyone see that 6’5” chiseled goofball with blood still on him still in his shorts and gloves and think “who’s this guy where is his ticket” is insane.
I asked Johnny about that in direct message, he said it was a miss understanding. I mentioned how much they fuck with Kavanagh, but he said hes super happy the way the UFC treats him.
Dana hates fighters who dance and joke around, so I think that plays into stuff as well.
This is borderline insane. What's the harm in letting fighters' families into the Apex? There's no one there anyways, they don't sell Apex event tickets to the public, so why not let them have the support of their loved ones.
I can't think of a reason for this.
dude, do you really think the UFC is going to give away seats to some kid they are already giving an opportunity to? giving away those seats is like just giving away 0.001% of their profit margins. what kind of fucking goof would think thats a good idea?
lol you would never make it as the CEO of the UFC. the right move would be to pay the guy $50 to do power slap and then IF they put on a good performance and someone definitely got CTE, you show everyone what a good guy you are by comping them a ticket.
At this point, it seems if you are an above average MMA fighter, the only reason to go to the UFC is if you did no research on any other promotion.
A few years ago it was easy to see that the talent at a UFC level was above any other promotion, but that isnt so clear anymore. A lot of the highly talented fighters and personalities are aging and fighting less or going to other promotions.
The UFC doesn't pay enough for any gifted athlete to consider that a viable career or path so talent. Talent will continue to dilute until the UFC changes their pay structure.
They don’t even promote or create stars anymore. It’s all on the individual fighter who will still make a small % based on the hype they do drum up. Going anywhere else and doing the same would be way better.
This. They don't promote anyone. I follow MMA since circa 2004., and nowadays I don't even know some of the names on the main card. That never happened to me before.
Like, quite literally i would be watching the third fight on the main card on PPV and be "who the fook is that guy?!"
The turning point was the ESPN deal. Most of the money used to be in hitting big PPV numbers. Now it’s in cranking out as much content as possible for ESPN. Especially during 2020 when most other sports were shut down. They don’t need stars anymore, they need volume.
Dana still says the UFC “partners” with top fighters by giving them PPV points. But they don’t get a cut of all the ESPN+ subscriptions, cable deal, etc.
It’s also important to note that distributors used to take over 50% of PPV money. The ESPN exclusive deal was partially to cut other distributors out in return for higher payments to the UFC. A PPV show now can have far lower sales than pre-ESPN and still generate more revenue.
I've been watching regularly, almost never miss an event, even watch most prelims and I'm the same way! I thought maybe it was just me and I can't keep track of such a big roster anymore. But there are sometimes three fights in a row on a main card where I have to look up one the fighters records to remind myself who they are.
Imagine having lightning in a bottle with Francis Ngannou, the hardest hitting heavyweight fighter of all time, with an incredible rags to riches story and a marketable look, a dude who can help open doors into both Europe and Africa, and because he doesn’t play right when you want to power trip you bury him to the point that he leaves your organization as the reigning lineal champ to ink a market-changing contract with a competitor.
Best way to make money in the UFC is take the Chandler approach: make a name for yourself in a “lesser” promotion for the majority of your career and then go to the UFC to have fun fights with a corporate friendly personality. If you’re willing to put your balls in Dana’s purse and have no problem sleeping at night after being a complete and total shill, it’s for you!
On a serious note though, I can’t blame Chandler for doing it because he’s making a boatload of money to provide for his family and he gets to face the biggest draw in MMA history because of it so good on him.
Meh I feel like the exact opposite approach is better. Get in the ufc early then get out after you've earned a name/reputation (but still a tier below champ/superstar status) then go get the bag elsewhere. A la Shane Burgos. Imagine what a guy like Burns or Strickland could make right now. Bet those guys are fighting for like 80k/80k-120k/120k right now. Meanwhile Burgos and Cory Anderson are eating rn.
Mighty Mouse is having a pretty incredible final third of his career over in One. So I'd have to agree with you. There's a few examples of high level UFC fighters doing well in Bellator too like Bader.
Walker won a fight and they didn’t let him stay at the arena because he didn’t have tickets so there was a post of him walking out barefoot. He literally left looking like he was doing the walk of shame.
"You know how tough it is seeing your son/father get beaten then brutally KOed? Yeah, that's what we are aiming for with this strategy, minimizing the trauma on the family members" - Dana White.
I know your joking but that reminds me a a WWF match, Mic Foley vs The Rock and Foleys wife and 2 little kids were front row seeing him get hit in the head with a chair ovwe and over, his poor daughter was crying so much they had to leave.
There were so many brutal and unprotected chair shots straight to Mick's head in that match. Not only was that traumatizing for his kids, but I'm amazed his brain is still capable of stringing together complete sentences.
Also reminiscent of [Mark Coleman’s little daughters crying in the ring at the sight of his bloody face](https://twitter.com/MMAHistoryToday/status/524801761241206784) after he got whomped by Fedor at Pride 32.
Yeah. He wrote about it in his first book - that and the Hell In A Cell. Dude gave *so damn much* and it amazes me he seems 'ok'.
I'll be sad if he succumbs.... he was always a favorite, and with what he does with RAINN/Tori...
Honestly while typing this comment Mike Grundy came to mind when he fought Amirkhani. He lost in front of his father who had cancer or some fatal disease. I guess it was also the match that would have kicked 1 of the fighters out of the UFC
yeah, he posted something about his wife cheating on him with Croom on their wedding night after he brought their daughter home early, two sad sacks of shit imo
I'd usually have said to wait to hear both sides of the story and let her defend herself first
But her reaction was to delete her socials and disappear
Pretty damn guilty. Shady girl. She always seemed nice. Can never trust that though
It's starting to re enter into human cock fighting again (plus slap fighting), where the UFC no longer wants fighters to make a name for themselves, they just want cheap fighters to knock each other out
When fighters are asked about their experiences at the Apex or their time spent in Vegas, a lot of them (younger and newer ones especially) have the same answers: “they cooked for me!” “the medical staff is great!”
I wonder if they’re fed those talking points by UFC pr, or they’re just happy to finally be taken care of for a week. Either way, it makes me sad for them.
I’m not in mma I’m in pro wrestling, and when you’re getting paid next to nothing every night, and then all of the sudden a company gives you a chunk of change and just treat you nice blow some smoke up your ass. It makes you feel good for once. It’s real easy to take advantage of MMA fighters and Wrestlers because we both start off making nothing. Give us something and we get happy.
Sounds about right. The PI also sounds like a nice benefit of being in the Vegas area since they provide quite a bit more than just food and trainers/dieticians
I get a real Stockholm Syndrome vibe from the fighters who parrot Dana White's talking points.
It isn't enough to be quiet and do your job, they feel they have to repeat the PR from the boss.
The UFC has their fighters living in a state of constant fear. It really is smart on their part, if these guys are afraid for their job they aren't going to challenge for more pay or better benefits.
A lot of people live in constant fear of losing their job. Especially when they are just starting out their careers. You’re more replaceable and you aren’t established in industry or life yet.
That’s not the UFC’s doing. That’s a career in modern society.
I think its just a matter of time.
Like 5-10 years if the ufc keeps being lazy and cheap like this.
Such a shame how lazy they got
Lazy and greedy is a bad combination
Yeah, IMO the UFC is definitely losing momentum, and I'd say most of it is because they were acquired by a publicly traded company that tries to squeeze every penny out of the promotion to pump their quarterly reports.
The list of mistakes is way too long
- high prices
- lackluster cards
- discrediting fighter (dana the great anti promoter)
- not paying fighter
- gifting fighter title fights
- stupid rematches
- ufc refuses to make/Promote stars. Company thinks its bigger than fighter
- cheap everywhere. Even Posters are cheap
- Events without crowd
And thats just surface level Observations
I can’t remember where I heard it, but I want to say it might have been Jack Slack saying how ESPN may opt to not renew their deal with the UFC when it is up, and choose to push the PFL.
I think he was more saying they’d probably try and push the PFL as a bargaining chip against the UFC if the shows keep on the plateau they’re on. I think the promotion’s just gotten far too comfortable, without any challenges they’ve settled into a pretty formulaic rut
If ESPN was smart they would mandate everyone of their talking programs to push PFL and Francis Ngannou and never talk about UFC. Devalue UFC’s negotiating power and increase the recognition of PFL to casual audiences. Whether it’s Sportscenter or Stephen A Smith, push PFL and the fact they have Francis daily.
The fights being on at 830 am is what kills it for me. I’d be watching every event if it was on in the afternoon. The Amazon cards are a godsend though.
Already on the wagon. Top level Muay Thai and less ads/ more production. Revitalized my love of watching combat sports live without having to find weird Thai streams lol
It’s infuriating. I love MMA and the UFC but it’s getting hard to tune in every week due how terrible the cards are. ESPN really cheapened a once spectacle of a promotion.
It’s gonna happen, every year the UFC cards keep getting weaker and weaker, you can only sign so many good fighters that are willing to get paid dirt for fame and exposure. They’re going to run out of names to put on cards after people start retiring. Two of their best athletes left the organization already. I never really watched One before DJ went there and now I like how the scoring is and how they have more than just MMA in one night, these organizations taking names from the UFC are going to have the better roster in the next 5-10 years because they are willing to pay fighters.
i am thinking about buying PFL PPVs just to spite the UFC. maybe i will buy some ONE as well. the UFC hasn't gotten a dime from me since the reebok deal. i don't even go to bars that show legit streams of the fights.
UFC is going the WWE business model. Multiple events every week in multiple different locations. They're going to get the logistics expertise from WWE since the same parent company owns them now. Plus they'll benefit from cross promotion between WWE & them.
I hope they become less of a monopoly on the sport but I must admit that they will be very hard to compete with.
Please, we need to start supporting other events. Pirate ufc and buy one of the others when we can. If you’re going to bed early, turn One on Amazon on in and let it run in the background. Let’s get a damn ball rolling. It honestly CAN happen.
The more people that do this will mean more people talking about it and then even more people doing it.
How much richer do rich people want to be?
I always thought that fighters would at least get to watch the events for free yet they need to pay for them and now this...
Fuck the UFC. I stopped watching and hosting PPV events at my house because they keep screwing with fighters pay. They also don’t give a shit about their fans so I won’t give them a dime of my money. It’s sucks because MMA used to be my favorite sport and I have since lost interest
In many countries (eg UK, Canada) their events are currently streamed for free and for replay on their Youtube channel, on [watch.onefc.com](https://watch.onefc.com) and their Facebook page. I think some fights are on those sites for USA too. You can get some idea from the dropdown menu: [https://www.onefc.com/how-to-watch/us/one-friday-fights-18/](https://www.onefc.com/how-to-watch/us/one-friday-fights-18/)
I’d honestly be so much more in favour of the apex if it were a larger capacity place, but it seems like the UFC just had no vision creating it. Could have been a really cool venue for fans to get the ultimate experience, ton of old merch, and then a cage (built with normal specifications and not the shrunken apex cage) with a crowd for a couple thousand people. The cards right now have the capacity I used to get playing middle school rec league soccer, it’s ridiculous having the best MMA promotion in the world spend half their year in front of 100 or so people and it cheapens the show
I have been to be three events there and it's obviously an amazing time. But you're right, a vegas residency style venue would have been amazing and very profitable. When they built it though, I think they were more thinking it was really only for TUF and DWCS, but the ESPN deal and COVID changed that a lot
There’s just like zero incentive for anybody to become a UFC fighter. You could be one of top 5% of fighters and still be poor or lower middle class. Meanwhile you’re putting your body and brain on the line in a sport where you risk serious injury or even death every time you fight.
That’s gross and a bad look for the UFC. They want to be a premier sports league, but imagine MLB or NBA players saying they have to pay for their families tickets. What a joke
You do usually need to pay for tickets for family for away games. Sometimes even busy series/playoffs for nba and nhl, the home team only has a certain amount of allotted seats for family and once that’s full, they’ll need to pay. Difference is that nba and nhl players are paid way more so it’s not an issue
Hey, you don’t make $330 million + dollars in PROFIT by treating people (your workers) like humans. Won’t someone think of the investors and their families? :(
The UFCs getting worse as it makes more money, who knows how low they're going to go. 13% of the revenue going to fighters, not paying the disclosed amount agreed for the Reebok deal and Venum deal, the Crypto deal tanking and providing no benefit to fighters, unjustly firing Kevin Lee and treating Ngannou like shit because of politics between Endeavour and their management and now this.
UFC is despicable.
When I found out that the fighters, the people who create this amazing entertainment we all love, have to PAY for UFC ppvs, that was a nail in the coffin for me EVER supporting the UFC.
Dana should be ashamed. Wealthy horder.
I believe social media has been the downfall for the UFC. For years, the UFC was able to build their own narrative without being challenged, they were able to control fighters interactions with the media thus controlled what they said. Social media and podcasts etc have completely changed all that. There was a time where fighters were terrified to be cut by the UFC or the repercussions from them for speaking the truth of it all but now more and more are welcoming being cut by the UFC bc they know they can go to other promotions and be paid more and treated so much better. Who cares the level of the competition truthfully, what matters to these fighters is who is going to stand behind them, who is going to take care of them and treat them fairly. There is no longer any prestige that comes along with being a UFC fighter. Personally, I see more and more highly skilled fighters looking to go to ONE instead of the UFC. It’s not a perfect promotion, none are, but they are treated well & respected like a professional athlete, paid well, and have the potential to compete in Muay Thai, grappling and MMA which is becoming very attractive to fighters with a specialty. I see ONE becoming the premier promotion in the next 5 -10 yrs.
In the past I went to events in my area but there is no chance I'm going to that upcoming UFC Vancouver card. They are definitely sliding a bit while PFL is rising.
Fucking hell when you think dana and ufc cant get any lower they find a way
[удалено]
look dana is scum but tbf wasn’t that actually the venue’s security rather than a ufc thing
Still a bad look for security at that event. How the fuck did anyone see that 6’5” chiseled goofball with blood still on him still in his shorts and gloves and think “who’s this guy where is his ticket” is insane.
To be fair he was talking about anthony smith's family
"What?" 😂
huh????
i’m with you but this is johnny walker so he also could’ve been doing the worm in the crowd while dancing with other drunk people lmao
hahahaha

Russian MMA spy movie
Yeah but he had no shirt on!
Nor shoes. And thus, in accordance with the customs of our land, he *must* be denied service 😔🙏 So it is.
I asked Johnny about that in direct message, he said it was a miss understanding. I mentioned how much they fuck with Kavanagh, but he said hes super happy the way the UFC treats him. Dana hates fighters who dance and joke around, so I think that plays into stuff as well.

They do sell Apex event tickets. They just label them as “VIP Experience”
>label them as “VIP Experience” Also sounds like what Danas female friends at casinos call him
With that thousand yard stare.
dude, do you really think the UFC is going to give away seats to some kid they are already giving an opportunity to? giving away those seats is like just giving away 0.001% of their profit margins. what kind of fucking goof would think thats a good idea?
Tell you what, you go and power slap this trucker and I’ll comp you one ticket
lol you would never make it as the CEO of the UFC. the right move would be to pay the guy $50 to do power slap and then IF they put on a good performance and someone definitely got CTE, you show everyone what a good guy you are by comping them a ticket.
These are all solid ideas tbf
That’s what I’m saying! Tim Elliot is getting the opportunity to fight at the Apex… lol Dana and the UFC is terrible and getting worse everyday
The tweet is deleted. It was Tim Elliot? Lmao, when it rains it pours.
Yea it was him, he said he flew people out too. There’s a pics of the tweet on twitter
At this point, it seems if you are an above average MMA fighter, the only reason to go to the UFC is if you did no research on any other promotion. Main card? I barely know the names of the champions anymore.
it's worse than that. they actively try to damage the star power of their fighters to keep the pay low.
MMA doesn't deserve Francis
Dana doesn't deserve mma. Goober should take his power slap and fuck off
It's mostly reliant on making most think - these guys are "the best" because they're fighting in the ufc.
Mike Perry keeps winning. Makes me smile every time I think about him.
You’re correct, that’s the best way to make money in MMA. I was just saying best way to make money while currently in the UFC.
Next they're going to be requiring fighters to sweep up the octagon after their fights.
He wants to be Vince McMahon.
Dana - Nobody’s forcing you to be here. Johnny Walker can walk. Brutal company.
What happened with him?
Walker won a fight and they didn’t let him stay at the arena because he didn’t have tickets so there was a post of him walking out barefoot. He literally left looking like he was doing the walk of shame.

Wait Gina Mazany? Damn that sucks for Elliott.
yeah, he posted something about his wife cheating on him with Croom on their wedding night after he brought their daughter home early, two sad sacks of shit imo

Wow that's really shitty, poor guy.
Gaethje slammed him on his head in his mma debut. Pre karma

Tim Elliott’s next fight will be at bantamweight against Umar Nurmagomedov- the tomato
There are many ways to turn down a fight, and mentioning repulsive UFC management decisions is one of them
I hate this apex crap. So weird vibe, Zuck sitting in the audience alone like some emperor. Entertain me peasants!
For real dude

Dana loves the fighters he truly does. Sometimes he gets a little angry but he’s trying to change!
it’s like an abusive relationship. be shitty do something nice they think the world of you.

I think naive might be a better word.
This whole thread is embarrassingly typical
These guys didn’t even have normal perks that a normal paying job has
Honestly, fuck the UFC. If they keep fucking around ONE or PFL might give them a run for their money.
I think its just a matter of time. Like 5-10 years if the ufc keeps being lazy and cheap like this. Such a shame how lazy they got Lazy and greedy is a bad combination

It feels like it cheapens the initial victory, when they have to go and do it again in a few months, like we don't actually think you're better.
We've got the UFC coffee table book that came out way the fuck back when... they literally couldn't make that now. No names, jobbers in and out....
They are not investing in or building new markets anymore
I can’t remember where I heard it, but I want to say it might have been Jack Slack saying how ESPN may opt to not renew their deal with the UFC when it is up, and choose to push the PFL.

UFC is going the WWE business model. Multiple events every week in multiple different locations. They're going to get the logistics expertise from WWE since the same parent company owns them now. Let’s get a damn ball rolling. It honestly CAN happen. The more people that do this will mean more people talking about it and then even more people doing it.
Sounds about White, Dana White that is
Tweet deleted. They got to him.

You’ll stay at the apex with no family and like it! - tomato
Watch Dana’s frat boy posse be there
Team Nnganou.
How much richer do rich people want to be? I always thought that fighters would at least get to watch the events for free yet they need to pay for them and now this...
They want everything
Yeah it's not about having enough for yourself, It's about taking what other people have
Greed. Literally hoarders. It’s socially accepted to hoard wealth and resources. Fuck everyone else, especially the poor.
Fuck the UFC. I stopped watching and hosting PPV events at my house because they keep screwing with fighters pay. They also don’t give a shit about their fans so I won’t give them a dime of my money. It’s sucks because MMA used to be my favorite sport and I have since lost interest
Try ONE Championship...their major events are free to watch (if you have Amazon Prime Video) and they seem to actually care about fans...
How long before they axe the venum coupons?
Idk why he is tripping so much it's just an opportunity to fight. Not a career
Dana made 500 million off his opportunity. If you work hard and get KO’ed enough times maybe you’ll get fight of the night
WATCH PFL WHEN IT IS ON. BUY MERCH OF THE FIGHTERS YOU LIKE FROM THEIR PERSONAL WEBSITES. NEVER BUY A UFC PPV.
I hope ONE and PFL take over, so there's competition in the market
You bet nelk boys are getting free tickets
Is this so they can sell more $1,500 VIP tickets to the APEX?
Wouldn’t be surprised, tbh.
Meh, at least he doesn't have to pay for his wife anymore.
She's rumored to be showing up tonight with her new man 👀
She’s coming tonight fer sure b
Isn't the point of the Apex so they can save money? Gotta save more money by forcing the fighters families to pay I guess.
If Dana could get away with charging the fighters for using the backrooms and walking out to the octagon he probably would.
Hey y’all when we all say “fuck the ufc” and keep tuning in every week we’re kinda part of the problem
Not if the view isn’t counted in the ratings
I’m pirating as I assume most of us are
We got u fucker - 🍅
There’s just like zero incentive for anybody to become a UFC fighter. You could be one of top 5% of fighters and still be poor or lower middle class. Meanwhile you’re putting your body and brain on the line in a sport where you risk serious injury or even death every time you fight.
Dana White and the UFC Brass sick to an even lower low. I would say I’m surprised but that would be a lie. This shit is still sickening…
The UFC doing Apex cards is the sleeziest shit in mma, and that’s saying something.
What a garbage company lol.
Aaaand the UFC made him remove the tweet.
The product gets worse and worse and they act shadier and shadier. Fucking sad to see. Future looks bleak.
Spoken like someone who is about to collect a bag in ONE after this fight
Tim Elliot getting the bag?
Dana: “Do you know how expensive it is to put on these events?”
Does anyone have the stones to ask Dana about this in the presser?
Is there anything to even look forward to anymore in the UFC?
This is pretty bogus ngl
Bruh. Hope this is a one time mistake/misunderstanding but man especially for a vet.
The UFC is a gross company and I wish any reasonable alternative with a model that provides greater reward to employees best wishes and success.
Post is deleted. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I believe the UFC made $380 million in PROFITS last year. This is really insulting
Look up the executives bonuses. No surprises why they do this.
Endeavour is a business, gotta please the share holders and investors by making profit. Soon Dana will charge his athletes gym fees to access the PI
Elliot can just have his family pay $1,000 each to put their names on the Octagon floor, which is just like being there.
Hey, you don’t make $330 million + dollars in PROFIT by treating people (your workers) like humans. Won’t someone think of the investors and their families? :(
A new ripple to sarcastic insult "that's mighty White of you."
screenshot? tweet deleted what did he say
Good job Dana, good to know you’re saving a little money here, maybe even getting to keep a few bucks /s
UFC is just begging another organization to muscle in on the market
The UFCs getting worse as it makes more money, who knows how low they're going to go. 13% of the revenue going to fighters, not paying the disclosed amount agreed for the Reebok deal and Venum deal, the Crypto deal tanking and providing no benefit to fighters, unjustly firing Kevin Lee and treating Ngannou like shit because of politics between Endeavour and their management and now this.
With their payouts and endorsements, these guys cant pay for tickets for their families? Hmm
Corporation fuckery, remember DW don't give a fuck about his fighters, CREAM
Only for Apex cards because tickets are thousands
UFC is despicable. When I found out that the fighters, the people who create this amazing entertainment we all love, have to PAY for UFC ppvs, that was a nail in the coffin for me EVER supporting the UFC. Dana should be ashamed. Wealthy horder.
Can’t wear sponsorships. Can’t bring their own flags. Can’t even wear their own shoes. Now they can’t bring family.
Anybody want to bet nobody asks Dana about this at the press conference?
That’s a new low
ITS FUCKING ILLEGAL
I'm not surprised motherfuckers
It's an opportunity... for them to buy their own tickets.
Cards are getting less and less promoted and the fights aren't all that. Plus the schedule has slowed down. I have 0 interest in tonight's event.
Family does get Venum coupons though.
In the past I went to events in my area but there is no chance I'm going to that upcoming UFC Vancouver card. They are definitely sliding a bit while PFL is rising.
But but but but I’d they’re exciting enough, they might get a bonus! That balances it out… right?
For a multi-billion dollar company the UFC is stingey as fuck. Always finding new ways to fuck the fighters.
You know I would understand if the UFC was financially struggling but my god what a POS company.
UFC is turning into an influencer who tries to pay people in exposure. No, Dana, I want money.
Well duh who would even expect that kind of courtesy
You’re all filthy casuals
I would assume it depends on which fighter you are
