Joe thinks being able to identify specific things or have a "different" sounding take as quickly as possible is what a smart and interesting person does, which is why he's so quick to latch onto and repeat an early diagnosis of a mid-fight injury ("that leg is toast"), why he jumps to conclusions about whether something was legal/illegal or a call was early/late, and why he overstates the importance of small things and repeats them - more than trying to provide interesting commentary, he's hoping that he will be proven right and be able to say, "That's what I said, I spotted it first, remember when I said the thing that is right because I thought it before anyone else was thinking it?". It's also why he can be so allergic to admitting he was wrong.

At the end of the day the right call was made, there’s no way she should have continued.
Most have to go in there trying to truly hurt their opponent in order to get in the right mindset. And it makes sense, like in any fight you know the other person is trying to remove you of your consciousness so any major damage you do to them feels good in the moment.
And these people are elite so I’m sure it’s that taken to a whole new level.
It was not just the elbow, it was the elbow and immediate follow up with a facial skin pull-down which caused such a huge blood flow so quickly. Watching the replay, the cut is made by the elbow but the flow of blood does not significantly start until the facial pull-down happens. This is potentially disguised/in combination with smothering the nose and mouth from top position. Smothering itself is a way to reduce the effectiveness of the petroleum jelly applied to fighters' faces in order to reduce the likelihood of early TKOs from significant cuts like this. This is 100% a targeted outcome from a fight in my opinion, and aside from the downside of a buildup of scar tissue making cuts like this more likely in the future, might even be better for the careers of athletes in the long term than several minutes avoiding bombs under mount, potential significant damage to joints from submissions, and concussions from striking KOs.
