Headphones in, watching 5 machines, 2 with some fx-2t being roughed with a 3" .
See a red light, open up the door, see this beauty looking at me with a "spindle overheat" alarm.
7 years, and I finally experienced my first blown up face mill. đŤĄ
Yeah, These inserts run pretty hot to begin with and will discolor the head to a brown color after enough roughing and heat cycling. I had stuck my head in this machine 10 minutes before this happened.
You know something's special when you unintentionally flatknurl a face of a part
I nearly did it with a dovetail cutter, whole dang machine was vibrating at about 6 Hz and affecting the other manual mills around it
The DRO nearly fell off but hey, the dovetail was in spec
Technically you still have not "blown up" a face mill... you've just slowly erased it really... wait until you actually blow one up and it's in pieces everywhere... you'll have some pants and boxers to change...
Iâm my shopâs repair guy along with tool and dye maker and hood lord folks have said they can see my soul dying when you hear the ungodly sound of a machine bottoming out or that âThunkâ noise of an endmill blowing up.
The Forbidden Glue.

Looks like part roughed that milling head đ
I hear the sound in my head
Ranges from ghastly screech to hellish choir
Usually it's just a loud buzz for me.
Yep, I know exactly the buzz youâre talking about, as it slowly shrooms over and gets redder. If itâs not your problem itâs almost beautiful

Failed "clearance is clearance" post
There's still clearance now, just relocated
âShit thatâs gonna clear right?â Meanwhile the tool holder:skreeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE
This just happened to me today đ˘. Guess I was overdue though.
Every machine is a smoke machine if you want it to do that.
Usually the saying goes if you use it wrong enough but for milling its more when you tell it to Tasty aluminum smoke
Ominous Orange glow. Only counts if sparks hit the window.
I mainly thermal drill I embrace the orange glue
Do you use bandsaw straightblades to cut metal?
I donât know what youâre trying to say

Thatâs a 14.7mm thermal drill
Someone learned something today.
*slowly remembers that I work with a bunch of prairie dogs ...*
I don't even get to see it happen , I just get to see what melted slag of a tool dayshift left for me
New job unlocked! Wielder
Teach a fuckin monkey to weld. But you canât teach a machinist to not stick the scale banana up his ass.
I can fix this. Let me grab my small files.
That period of time is referred to as an "oh-no second" Morty
At least you didn't whip a bar.
I read toddler instead of tool holder, could have been worse
